If you’re curious about details of the promo offer I made him, here it is below…

To: Nelson Jr. s
Date: 18 Dec 2014 15:29

Hi Nelson,

Like I said, I wanted to find out if you’d be taking up any of my year end promo offers.

But I realized that since you are into hog farming, the offer of my Poultry Farm Manager may not be so useful to you.

So, instead I’ve come up with something different for you as follows:

=
If you can purchase the following paperback books from my online store and have them shipped to my brother in law’s address below:

Segun Ogunlana

London,
United KingdomIf you take up this offer, you get to pay only N10,192.8, instead of N12,500.Once the books are received in London, I will send you a FREE copy of my Ration Formulator fully personalized for you, along with FREE copies of my 4 part Ebook series on Best Practice Farm Business Management (see http://www.lulu.com/shop/tayo-solagbade/farm-business-best-practice-management-10-articles-and-stories-for-farm-business-owners/ebook/product-21867121.html)Plus, I will send you a FREE PDF copy of an Agribusiness research paper I was paid 2,500 Euros to write, by a Holland based NGO last December (2013). It was about the rate of adoption/use of my Ration Formulator, by Farm CEOs.The items I need you to purchase and ship to my brother in law’s in London are:A. My new Speaking IDEAS book (paperback version NOT Ebook)

Price is $12 USD

See it on sale at:
http://www.lulu.com/shop/tayo-solagbade/speaking-ideas-25-articles-and-true-stories-for-experts-who-speak-and-those-aspiring-volume-1/paperback/product-21873474.html

Number of copies to buy: 1 copy

B. My new Kukuru Danger book (paperback version NOT Ebook)

http://www.lulu.com/shop/tayo-solagbade/kukuru-danger-5-true-stories-about-the-adventures-and-misadventures-of-a-school-age-child-trying-to-find-purpose-in-life/paperback/product-21758730.html

Number of copies to buy: 3 copies

C. The Lulu.com SHIPPING/HANDLING fee for delivery of the books…

From checking at my end using the shopping cart with the intended shipping address inputted, it will be about $13 USD (The actual value shown in the checkout interface was under $13 USD)

In summary, I have worked out the total amount that A, B and C above will come to, as follows:

A. 1 copy @ $12 USD  = $12 USD

B. 3 copies @ $9.60 USD each = $ 28.8 USD

C. Shipping and handling  = $14 USD (worst case estimate)

Likely total cost will be  $54.8 USD on the whole.

I have converted that into Nigerian Naira using an exchange rate of N186 to $1 USD (which is to your advantage, because it is currently at about N185 or less to a dollar)

That brings the $54.8 USD to N10,192.8, which is LESS than the N12,500.0 price for the Ration Formulator.

So, you get to save N2,307 (18%), and also get my other bonus gifts.

Plus, this removes the problem of sending money to me to pay for the software!

If you’re interested in taking this offer up, do let me know.
In your service,

Tayo
PS: In case you’re curious, I’ve put excerpts below from the offer I made to other Farm CEOs with Poultry ventures…

NOW HERE ARE DETAILS OF THE WEB MARKETING SERVICE OFFER:

I offer to help you develop and implement a Web Marketing System to cost-effectively boost your company’s branding/marketing efforts…

http://tayosolagbade.com/uploads/wm4ceo-join.pdf

This is the invoice he sent me width=

Wouldn’t it be great if you could use the above strategy to boost local and international sales of your products and services?

Think about it carefully, and you’ll see that I end up literally eating my cake and having it by operating this way.

It might also interest you to know that Nelson had earlier (on 1st Dec 2014) purchased my PDF feed formulation handbook, for $82 US Dollars from the same online store at www.lulu.com/sdaproducts

In otherwords, this was his second purchase in 4 weeks, which you will agree indicates he was satisfied with what he got the first time!

On Monday 5th January 2015, in the first issue of my weekly newsletter for the new year, I will explain in detail, why every business owner that adopts this strategy that I used with Nelson, will end up making more money and profits in the long run.

Here’s wishing you happy holidays and a prosperous 2015!

Stay tuned!

To Succeed Smarter You Need a Do-It-Yourself Mentality

[Photos: House painting after Christmas day 2014, with my sons] Unlike when I relocated ALONE in April 2013, moving my family from this Lagos apartment, to join me in Cotonou, has (not surprisingly) been a less straightforward matter, on multiple fronts, from the kids to even their grandparents!

But it’s progressing, slowly. We’re disposing old stuff etc. 2 days ago (Xmas night – 25th Dec. 2014) from 8.30 p.m till 3.00a.m (Yes, past midnight!) we applied the first coat of paint to the outside walls, inside the kitchen, bathroom and toilet etc.Tired but hungry, we cleaned up, had our baths then ate pancakes and plantain, before going to bed. The kids were so excited! 6 hours later, at about 10a.m we were back at it, applying a second coat (see photos below).

But why paint a house we’re soon to move out of, you may wonder?

Well, you see, my rental experiences in the past 19 months (and 2 house changes) in Benin Republic have exposed me to a practice diligently adhered to by property owners and their tenants, which I find personally agreeable.

In the tenancy agreement signed by both parties, a clause is always inserted to the effect that before leaving, the tenant will restore the rented property to the original state s/he took possession of it at the start of his/her tenancy.

That will typically be determined via a joint pre vacation inspection. Sometimes only repainting of certain areas may be needed. At other times damaged fittings etc may have to be replaced.

Simply put, the exiting tenant has to hand over the property in as close as possible to the same state it was handed over to him/her.

Now, in Nigeria, this practice exists, but is not implemented in the same formal and detailed/elaborate manner as I’ve seen done in Benin Republic.

But, I have resolved to do it, as done in Benin even though the tenancy agreement I signed with the owner of the place we live in Lagos, does NOT require it.

Here are excerpts from a letter I sent to the agency, in September 2014, shortly after I spoke with him, when he came to do the pre vacation inspection:

My work is 80% PC and Internet based (See www.tayosolagbade.com). I need reliable power supply. And to be productive, I’d rather not have power and work against background noise of generators. This was why I moved to Cotonou, on 1st April 2013, and I’ve been able to work without those annoyances – with MAJOR progress as a result. And that’s why I’m moving my family to join me there.

But like I told <agency staff’s name> when we met on Saturday 16th August 2014, I already resolved to restore the apartment as close as possible to the condition in which it was when my family moved in.

Specifically, the broken fittings (sink, kitchen cabinet etc) will be repaired. And it will be repainted. As I explained to <agency staff’s name>, I believe it is only fair to <property owner’s name> that I do this. Incidentally, it is the practice here in Benin.

For instance, I had to repaint the bathroom of the self-contained apartment I vacated after staying there a year – in line with my tenancy agreement. In the larger apartment I’ve now moved into, in another part of town, the same clause exists in the agreement I signed. Since I plan to own my own property in the near future, I want to treat others the way I would like my property to be treated.

Now, another reason why this painting exercise in particular appealed to me is that it provided a useful opportunity to teach my kids to do it i.e house painting.

Most people in our part of world don’t know much about painting, and few are keen to learn.

Indeed some believe it to be beneath them to engage in such an activity that can get rather messy. So they prefer to pay others to do it.

I however believe that attitude is a mistake.

On my part, I tell my kids how learning to do stuff like that by themselves can help them save money to be paid to painters. I also point out how learning to do it can even equip them to make quick money on the side, in future, by doing simple painting jobs for others who are unwilling to do it themselves.

You see, it is my considered opinion that not only do we need to develop our DIY (Do-It-Yourself) abilities, to succeed better, we also owe our kids an obligation to equip them to do the same.

Simply put, I’m saying we can boost our ability to succeed in the world by learning to do more for ourselves, by ourselves.

My conviction is not baseless. I have relatives and friends living in the UK and USA, and while in Guinness Nigeria, I worked closely with several senior colleagues/bosses from the UK.

I also traveled across England, Wales, Scotland and other parts of the UK in 2000, attending an international brewing course organized by the UK based Institute & Guild of Brewing.

My conversations with those relatives, colleagues and associates revealed that most people in their societies strive to develop a DIY habit because of the high cost of skilled labour.

A former expatriate British boss in Guinnes once told me he owned his own welding machine because the fees one had to pay to call in a welder were prohibitive. That made it cost-effective to own the equipment and learn to use it.

Another expatriate senior colleague whose home I visited in London showed me his kitchen cabinets, which he proudly told me he built and fitted by himself. My own older brother, who lived in London at the time, when he later moved to Lagos, to start a new business, displayed a propensity for fixing things in his home by himself, for the same reasons.

I still recall watching with a mix of amusement and curiosity each time he opened his toolbox and took out/began using electric drills etc around his apartment. He told me the same things the other persons said: he adopted a DIY approach because it was prudent to do so – financially and otherwise.

Back home in Nigeria/Africa, because most people who do jobs like carpentry, plumbing, painting etc, are often not well schooled, we know we can get their services relatively cheaply, or so we think.

What I have however learnt is that in the long run it all still adds up.

That’s why today I also employ the DIY approach as often as possible – and it’s paying off.

It is my hope that you will avail yourself of the benefits accruable from doing the same thing – so as to keep more of your money in your pockets!

To Achieve Business Success, You Need More Than Credentials and Expertise (Hint: Lots of Unspoken Rules Exist for You to Master)

"(The Church Records & Accounts Manager has) really helped me in the preparation of my monthly Accounts..(Tayo Solagbade’s Excel-VB service is okay. He is always on ground whenever you call him and solution to problem is (provided) without delay or alteration of data"- Finance & Admin Manager, Anglican Church Of The Ascension, Opebi, Lagos."

The above handwritten testimonial (received in 2008) is one of a number I got from users of custom MS Excel-Visual basic driven apps I built, back when I still used to give out my specially designed client feedback forms.

I have since dispensed with the use of those forms, and no longer request testimonials from clients, as I resolved, to do less development work, and focus more on promoting custom Excel-VB apps I build for sale.

Most people, the uninitiated especially would have considered my decision to stop requesting testimonials an unwise move…

Especially since I was doing something very unpopular, and basically having to create my own market, where none previously existed.

The results I have since gotten however point clearly to the fact that I was right. It’s been a long journey to get where I today, at the level of mainly passive income earning success. A lot of persistence, and courage, had to be applied, diligently, over the past decade, starting from a very humble beginning.

When I say "humble" beginning, I mean that in every sense of the word. Like I have noted in several of my past articles, in 2002, I quit my high paying, promising career as a high flying manager in Guinness to pursue a long standing dream of owning my own business.

However, like many others before me, I soon discovered that success in business, especially in my part of the world (Nigeria/Africa), required a lot more than credentials and hands-on competence/expertise at what you do…

You also have to understand a lot of the unspoken rules (e.g. about spending on sales/marketing in micro, small or medium business), how to deal with mind game playing counterparts you will encounter, and various forms of intrigue!

Quite often, mastery of these aspects have to be picked up from the streets as you go along. No formal learning institution can teach you the ropes in this regards. You simply have to undergo the experience to acquire critical street wisdom that will help you compete effectively!

That was what I did, and it was VERY painful, but I knew it would be worthwhile, so I gritted my teeth and endured.

One of the most important lessons I learnt was the need to drastically cut down ALL spending, and to be VERY slow to commit funds to expenditures. But I learnt it a little too late, at a point when I had exhausted the funds I left Guinness with.

In the long run however, that experience provided me the incentive or stimulus I needed to uncover the valuable lessons I needed to learn.

Over time I found out the hard way, struggling with no funds, to market and promote the solutions I offered to my target audience, that I could successfully get A LOT done without having to spend much …sometimes without spending ANYTHING monetary.

As you can imagine, that was a discovery that excited me greatly, and I explored it with great zeal subsequently. Today, I use all that I’ve learnt to repeatedly and consistently attract and sell to paying clients/customers at low to zero cost. Plus, I help my clients – those who diligently put what I do for them to use – do the same.

Some have complimented me on my seemingly uncanny creativity, which enables me continually come up with practical solutions to challenges they need to overcome. I always reply by saying that I honed my skills in this regard during the periods of extreme and prolonged financial hardships I passed through. During those times I learned to dig deep, and THINK all the time of how to get what I wanted without paying money …since I often had NO MONEY.

After coming into better times, I have remained committed to using the same principle, because it enables me reap fatter profit margins from what I do, than if I chose to spend more.

In other words, even though I can afford to spend more to get more, what I continue to do is actively challenge myself to explore even more ways to spend less and less, and less, to earn more and more and more.

Guess what? I AM succeeding in doing so!

Plus, I want to help others do the same. It does not matter what field, or vocation you’re in. Neither does it matter how much you make currently. I also do not need to know the technicalities of what you do.

What matters is that you be convinced and willing to diligently apply the solution once it’s setup for you.

If you want me to help you, click here to let me know.

I’ll end this piece by repeating something I first said in an article titled "There Is Nothing Wrong With A Humble Beginning: Achieve YOUR Success With Honour & Integrity"…

For those who may feel that the "tone" of this article suggests I am trying to show off or blow my trumpet (i.e. I am not being humble…or not humble "enough"), I will say that my attitude has always been that it does NOT do me or anyone else any good to keep useful information in my possession away from those who may benefit from using it simply because I want to avoid being perceived to be "UN-HUMBLE"!

=Starts=

This is Tayo Solagbade and today is 22nd of December 2014.

We’re approaching the new year, and in my normal end of year ritual, I’ve been calling a lot of my subscribers and past buyers – farm CEOs mainly, who use my products, my software especially for farm business management – maybe the Excel-VB driven Ration Formulator or Poultry Farm Manager.

And some have bought my handbook on Feed Formulation and things like that. As I normally do every year, I call on them and ask what their plans for the new year are, what goals they have, how I can help…and of course I usually make an offer:

I call it a Christmas Gift offer in which I just give some ridiculous crazy discounted rate for them to acquire one of my products or services or products and services. The objective is to forge a closer connection with each one of them, and of course to just get them talking about me.

So I’ve been doing that in December. I’ve been in Nigeria now for at least roughly 4 weeks and a half or so, and it’s been interesting to talk to them about this year’s offer, because over the years, I’ve come to the realization that a lot of farm CEOs.

Note that the ones I work with are not the ones that carry hoes around(no offense intended – just clarifying).

Most of my clients or buyers or members of my Farm Business IDEAS club are people who run medium sized to large sized farms, and mostly in livestock production, especially fish farming and poultry farming.

And many of them have…they use smart phones they use laptops, they are technology friendly and more often than not, these days I have found that more and more of them are actually people in paid employment in big companies who are running businesses part time, probably managed by their spouses, and they are generally people who travel a bit.

So these are guys that I feel can operate at the level I operate, and I realize that they need to understand that they can use technology much more intelligently, to succeed better at what they do.

And many of them don’t realize this.

I think one of the big challenges we have in our part of the world here in Africa, especially Nigeria is that people don’t know that farm business doesn’t have to be same old crude, drudgery filled activity that the peasant farmers are known for.

If you’re going to …I mean a lot of these guys make millions in a month…okay maybe hundreds of thousands in a month, producing these animals, these farm products.

So, nothing stops them from reaching out to buyers who will give them better returns for their efforts.

One of the things that has driven me to this year make the offer of helping them to make more use of technology, especially the use of the Internet to find buyers, at zero cost, so as to cut down their Cost Of Customer Acquisition (COCA) is the story I read in the Vanguard newspapers earlier in the year, where a group of farmers in Plateau state …I think it was the Poultry Farmers Association approached the MD, the Managing Director of Grand Cereals and requested his help in mopping up what they called an excess production of eggs, because they said they had a glut in Jos or Plateau state as a whole.

And I recall feeling very odd when I read that report. I said the Nigerian market doesn’t even have enough eggs. So what do they mean that they have a glut? Where is the glut?

So, I called up some of my clients who is based in Jos, I spoke to one of them – Bitrus – and I said “Look what is this thing about a glut not enabling you sell, and then you needing somebody to mop up eggs from you at all cost so you can keep producing?”

And he was telling me “You know Tayo when you go from 2, to 3 here in Jos here, you will find 2 houses or homes they have poultry farms.”

I said “So what? The thing is must you sell only to buyers in Plateau state or Jos? Why can’t you reach out to buyers outside your state.”

And he didn’t initially get what I was trying to say. I said:

“Look, nothing stops you from reaching out to buyers outside your state and getting them to come and pick up eggs from your farm. That’s one. Then two: Even within your state, it is possible that you’re missing the point. You don’t need to make yourself vulnerable and exposed to people who are going to come and buy units of egg trays from you.

You can actually reach out to organizations and individuals or businesses that require eggs in large quantities or bulk periodically, and then have an arrangement with them to pick up eggs from you, on the understanding that they will get some price concession or benefit. The point is you don’t have to go the traditional route to sell your farm product.”

So, when I said that he said okay. I told him I would send him some materials as a gift.

So I sent him, I think it was a story, about a gentleman somewhere in South West Nigeria, who used one of the online forums …popular online Nigerian forum, to – over a period of about 9 months – build up what you could call a thread of conversation, in which people began to request to have him send his truck, his bus, to supply them eggs in different parts of the country.

It didn’t happen overnight, but over a period of about 9 months, what he did was to successfully attract people using this platform, free.

Not his own website now, some discussion forum, where people were responding to pictures he posted of eggs he had, which were quite big and then the offer he made to supply in bulk at reduced price, and all of that. He’d bought a brand new bus and put the picture of the bus, and he did this.

I followed the thread of the discussion from 2012 into 2014, and it was amazing to see that in 2014 when he got somebody who now came and said he wanted him (the Farm Owner) to supply eggs to them in, probably I think PortHarcourt or something, he had to respond and say:

Look I’m overbooked. I have people who come now to the farm and pick up the eggs at agreed rates, and there’s actually a queue of people. And so if you know you want to get on board you will have to come and do the same thing, because I no longer supply to people off farm. They come and pick it up.

Now you can imagine what that would mean for that man. First of all the Cost of Sales would drastically drop. The stress, the amount of work, time, effort that would go into marketing and selling his eggs would have dropped considerably. I’m sure that would mean major, major, major gains in terms of profit margins retained in the business. And most importantly the headache, the worry about how are you going to get these eggs sold off would have been eliminated for this man.

So unlike other farm business owners who produce eggs and birds and then begin to worry about how they are going to sell them off, because those market women come and begin to give them all these ridiculous conditions to buy the eggs and chicken off them, this other person is actually finding himself in a position where as he produces, the thing is being mopped up.

Now that’s the way a farm business should run, because if you’re going to maximize the capacity, that is maximally utilize the capacity of your farm business, for instance your poultry farm enterprise, you need to be able to have a ready outlet for the eggs you’re producing, and the birds that are ready for sale.

Be it table birds like broilers, or turkey or whatever else. And of course the old layers you need to get rid of because you need to bring in the next batch Point Of Lay birds – Pullets – to start production again. If you have a farm enterprise, you’ve got to be able to ensure that your Turn Around Time or Cycle Time, is optimal. That’s when you’ll really be able to reap the possible maximal returns on your business investment.

A lot of people don’t have that.

If you don’t have control of your marketing, of your sales, you’re going to have big problems running a livestock business enterprise.

If you don’t secure that ahead of time, when you start producing, way before the products or birds are ready for sale, you’re going to have big issues making your money back.

You’re going to find yourself sometimes feeding birds that are supposed to have been sold out, or unable to find space to stock your eggs because you can’t get them sold at the same rate at which you’re producing.

In today’s world, there’s no reason why any farm CEO should have to go through that.

And that’s what I’m trying to say here to farm CEOs. They need to begin to think intelligently. A lot of them use Smart phones – pretty powerful devices, laptops, they are Internet connected and everything. And yet they don’t leverage the Internet to do this.

It’s nobody’s fault. This is not to say they are not as smart as they should be. The point is they just don’t know the power they have in their hands.

And this is where I come in.

What I’m trying to do starting from now into 2015 and beyond, is to begin to let farmers see that they can use the Internet intelligently, to achieve better marketing output.

And not just that, but also to position themselves in a manner that will enable them generate passive income streams for themselves.

Look, a farm CEO is a consultant. If you run a farm business that is profitable, you are an authority at what you do. What you’re doing is what somebody else who is in paid employment is worried about establishing and succeeding at.

It therefore means that if that person wants to come out, you are in a perfect position to provide consultation – PAID consultation – service to that person. You can train people, you can give people induction to be able to succeed in their own farm businesses based on your own experiences and achievements.

But how do you get them to know that you can do that for them?

If you use a properly setup web platform, you will be able to offer that and generate what is called PASSIVE INCOME. Active (non passive) income is the one that you’re generating when you have to work, you have to run the farm, you have to supply the eggs to the buyer in order to get money in.

But what about the one when you’ve done all the work that needs to be done, and then people just come and say I’d like to have it and they just pay?

Like you write a handbook on what it takes to run a farm, a poultry farm, right from the day old bird to the date the birds have to be sent out for sale.

What if you could do that, and you had it as a handbook?

I’ve been selling my Feed Formulation handbook since 2002. I wrote it in 2002, it’s just 65 pages thick, but I sell it as a PDF for N8,000 (Eight Thousand Naira).

I recently (3 weeks ago) had somebody, a Filipino guy, who is based in Dubai working in a company, but he has a pig farm back in the Philippines.

And he sent me a message through my website, after finding me through Google. Then I called him and we spoke. He wanted to buy my feed formulation software. I now asked him if he knew anything about feed formulation and he said not really much.

Then I said : “you have to understand the practical side of Feed Formulation and Compounding, first of all, before you use the software, because if you don;t you won’t have a basis for making proper use of the software to formulate rations for your animals.”

So he said “What do I do?”

I said “Well, you need to buy my Feed Formulation handbook first of all.”

And he went to my online store and bought it for $82 USD (Eighty Two US Dollars).

Think about that. I wrote that book in 2002, and I got somebody to buy it for $82. I can tell you I have other books like that.

Now, as a farm CEO, you are an authority at what you do. The thing is you now have to know how to take your knowledge and expertise, and convert it to money.

You have to be able to monetize what you know. If you can do that, it means people coming to buy your farm products may just take a look and say “Can I buy your book? Can I have that your DVD audio training CD?”

You can convert your knowledge into all forms like I do. I sell all kinds of things. Most of them are just stuff I create from my head, because I know my subject.

Farm CEOs can do the same thing.

We are moving towards an economy in which Agriculture is taking centre stage again. You guys who are farm CEOs are going to be the like the pivot for the progress and development of Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

If you can begin to leverage the Internet properly the way I do, believe me, you will get to a point where you will actually be making much more money selling your knowledge via the channel of passive income generation, that you would even from the farm you’re running.

(This is) because you will get to a point where you will even be invited and get PAID to SPEAK to audiences of people who are prospective retirees. They want to hear from you because they want to do farm business.

Farm business is going to be one of the most lucrative areas to go into, in the near future in this country and across this continent.

So, if you can begin to use the Internet the way I recommend, by using what I call a Web Marketing System, you’re going to be set for life – and then you’re going to be able to help other people do the same.

That’s what I’m trying to do here. You will become a point of contact to help other people to develop the ability to stand on their own two feet as against looking for salaried employment.

So people coming out from school will actually be able to come to your farm, and you can even offer residence based programs. People will take up rooms on your farm, and they would actually be on apprenticeship with you. And they would pay, up front, 100% in advance.

I know what I’m saying. I already do a lot of that – and I’m going to have a Farm Research and Extension Advisory Services centre to do more from.

But I want to help farm CEOs do the same thing because I cannot do it alone.

Now, I’m speaking like this because I realize that a lot of farm CEOs when I make this offer to them, they don;t get it.

So I’ve decided to offer my 3 part audio series that I recorded in 2011 titled “Why You Need a Web Marketing System” on a DVD for interested persons. The MP3 audio from which THIS text transcript you’re reading now, was made, will also be included on that DVD.

If you’d like to get a copy of the MP3 audio recordings, click here to let me know.

By the time you’ve listened to the series, you should come away with a much better idea of how a Web Marketing System can help you.

Good luck!

To Achieve Long Term Success You Need The Right Motives

This article explains why it is crucial for the long term survival of any business venture you wish to embark upon, for you to search deeply within yourself and ensure you KNOW and are CONVINCED that it is what you want to do. Failure to do this could result in the untimely death of the product of your hardwork many years down the line.

Why Are You In Business?

What is your reason for being in (or wanting to go into) business as an entrepreneur? Maybe you realised you might never get as rich as you really want to be by remaining in paid employment. Maybe you have some ideas about how to use your unique gifts and/or skills to change the world around you to a better place – among other things – by influencing new ways of thinking and doing things.

The point is that you need to KNOW exactly why you want to embark on this kind of journey. Knowing why you want to do it, as Jim Rohn said, makes it easy to know why you cannot give it up – ever!

Having reasons helps you achieve your aims no matter how long it takes or how slow or painful it becomes – because your reasons or motives give you CONVICTION. A person who is convinced about his/her concepts will NEVER give up trying to make them work. It only becomes a question of time then, before s/he finds success.

Find A Reason That Goes Beyond Making Money

Desiring money can provide adequate motivation to pursue business success. The problem I have with it is this: What happens AFTER you achieve your desired level of business success that results in wealth – and financial independence or security for you?

Some successful people have advised that you avoid making money your major focus. This is because, (from their experience) when you relentlessly pursue your vision, success will eventually come with significant monetary rewards (there are those who think differently of course). So, why bother your self about it up front, they ask.

I actually share this philosophy about having motives for starting a business, that go beyond just making money. To really be successful, we must be able to do something that makes a positive impact on others/society. Or it could be something which gives us fulfillment regardless of whether or not we get material rewards from doing so. When its ONLY about the money, a person may not be able to sustain his/her initial hunger or passion to take things to another level, once the money comes.

Examples Of Real People Who Have Motives That Go Beyond Making Money

Painters/Artists and many authentic entrepreneurs in a way are soul mates of sorts in this area. They will be very often found willing to continue for unlimited periods of time pursuing their vision regardless of how much lack they suffer before succeeding. And even when they have achieved material success, their passion for work never diminishes, because they stay focused on achieving the ultimate vision of making a difference using their unique gifts – visions that may be pursued for their entire lifetime.

Take the case of Bill Gates. Considering that he has been the richest man in the world for quite a while now, if that had been his sole motivation for starting his business or building it up to its current size, I doubt that he would still be working the way he does.

Gates – as I learnt from a Newsweek magazine interview I once read – has a personal vision to "evangelise" to the world, the "gospel of software development" as it were. From CEO, he now plays the role of a chief visionary, for the Microsoft company – influencing how/where new developments in the business should go, and bringing in capable hands to complement his efforts as necessary. On a different front, he is also working hard on the "…Gates" foundation to help people around the world.

To Achieve Long Term Business Success – Your Employees Need To Have The Right Reasons Too!

My personal experiences – even from when I was in paid employment – assure me the above philosophy guarantees significant and long term success for anyone who follows it. For instance, by working hard to help my former company manage her brewing operations better using my self-taught skills (in spreadsheet programming), I got attractive career advancement opportunities offered to me fairly early on in my career – with significant monetary and other benefits.

One example. I thoroughly disliked the idea of spending hours and hours over 3 or more days (as often happened at the time I just joined the company as a brewer) doing cumbersome calculator based computations to determine performance indicators for week/month end reports. So, I decided to build a spreadsheet to eliminate the problem. Did I achieve my goal, you ask? Yes, I did – and I got a lot of recognition for it in the process. But if you notice, my reason for embarking on that activity was initially to solve a problem I personally found distasteful. But in the process, others found my developed solution to be something they also wanted – so it was formally adopted.

But even if I had not gone the extra mile to use my free time and self-taught skills to add this kind of value to the company.

Even if I had simply done exactly what was stated in my job description, I would still have gotten paid a comfortable salary, and earned the normal annual performance reviews bonuses for doing my job! It is therefore obvious that I chose to do more, because of a compelling need I had, to influence changes I believed would boost workplace productivity.

Going by the above, it might not be a bad idea to study each of your employees to determine what primary motives they have for working in your company. Their willingness to take the initiative in solving problems; to develop futuristic solutions or to go the extra mile on the job when necessary, for the company to succeed, will be useful pointers.

Summary

In entrepreneuring, it is generally recommended that your business idea should be one that you are passionate about, and which solves a problem that your prospective customers will appreciate. You can usually identify such opportunities from those instances when you experience feelings of frustration/anger or dissatisfaction with a particular situation, product or service condition. When you feel that way, you might find that others also feel the same, but have no idea what they can do to eliminate the problem.

If you can provide that solution, it is likely to be (eventually) perceived as useful by others. You will have met a NEED. Working daily to be able to meet that felt need to your customers’ satisfaction will ensure long term success for your business: you will always be relevant. If you make providing this enduring solution – with appropriate adaptation to changes that occur over time – your primary motive for being in business, you will easily sustain your passion to keep the business going for the long term – even when you experience tough times.

I’ll end by saying if you do NOT have a compelling reason for doing whatever it is you’ve chosen to do as an entrepreneur, you will not have enough motivation to keep from giving up when things get tough – and every once in a while, business WILL get tough! Back to top

“Make your vision so powerful that when you finally accomplish your goal, you have a sense of deja-vu – Haven’t I experienced this before?” – Cynthia Kersey

“If you don’t do what you love you will fail, and fail big time.” – Michael Ross

“If It’s LEGAL and Works In Nigeria, It’ll Work ANYWHERE!” – Tayo K. Solagbade

My name is Tayo Solagbade, and I founded the Self-Development Academy(SDAc) to help individuals and groups of all types develop and implement strategies to successfully equip themselves to achieve their set goals every time. In this article, I provide insights into why SDAc chooses to use Nigeria as the main point of reference.

Nigeria Is A Peculiar Place. SDAc(Self-Development Academy Limited) Is Nigerian.

Nigeria needs Nigerians to solve her problems. We can borrow ideas from other societies, but only Nigerians who have a sound understanding of the complex nature of social factors influencing the highly unpredictable, unusual events that occur daily, can successfully adapt such ideas to develop lasting, sustainable solutions that will make life better for the average Nigerian.

Since I started out as an entrepreneur, to pursue my dream of providing Self-Development education for people passionately driven to be their best at what they do, I have come to the sobering realisation that Nigeria, my country, has many social peculiarities that severely limit the ability of even her most gifted and competent citizens to follow an honest path to achieve authentic and reproducible success.

Let me explain by drawing a comparison with developed societies. Americans for instance have many seasoned experts and practitioners dedicated to the work of developing the human resources and intellectual capital of their country. They’ve been at it for years – decades in fact. So have other developed nations. We in Africa have always trailed – many of us very far – behind. Business Schools and universities in Europe, America and Asia yearly churn out socially relevant research findings that make life better for their people – many times even for us in Africa!

In contrast, our business schools typically focus on recycling learning events from their overseas counterparts for us here – even when the socio-cultural context of application is inappropriate! Research if at all done by these business schools, is hardly ever relevant to the needs of our immediate environment.

I have often wondered…Why it is that the latest way of doing anything always comes from overseas? Why can’t we have gurus from this part of the world telling the rest of the world what the future holds, where we should all be looking for better results etc?(We have a few gurus doing this but most, on closer examination are often not home-grown, and have benefited from considerable exposure to developed societies).

My answer: Because too many of us Nigerians living in Nigeria, are intellectually indolent – too lazy to engage in sustained intellectual pursuit of continuous improvements in our various fields. That’s why we are content to sit back and accept whatever comes from the developed societies – even when sometimes what is being sent to us was created using material obtained directly from, or around us! The truth is that Nigeria and many African countries lack organisations that provide support systems toward enabling better quality of life for people living in them.

The SDAc Is NOT An NGO, But Will Facilitate Work Done By Them And Others.

The SDAc is profit-focussed, and NOT a charity. We have however developed a strategy to enable us empower different classes of people by leveraging our creative digital business products and services delivery arm – CB Solutions(Creative Business Solutions). This strategy will enable us provide interested individuals and groups(including the disadvantaged and/or needy) with access to our coaching, educational and empowerment programs at highly affordable rates. To put it simply, we will offer our commercial clients attractively bundled/priced products and services in exchange for their active contribution to the successful pursuit of our people development and empowerment goals.

The SDAc aims to explore, discover, document and offer to interested persons, tested and proven solutions to the various challenges faced by individual Nigerians(in and out of paid employment), many of whom currently feel they have no chance of ever making their dreams come true. I have seen different international charity organisations and donor agencies dole out large dollar grants towards various so-called development programmes, but as most who live in Nigeria and Africa know, very little sustainable results have been achieved as a result of the work done by these bodies. Not because they are not sincere or fail to work hard, but because the approach adopted was inappropriate.

I am a Nigerian – and so are my wife and kids. I do not want my children fleeing their country to seek success and fulfillment elsewhere. I realise that no foreign organisation or country can really truly help my country empower its people as well as we could if we really tried. We need Nigerians and Africans to develop their own solutions to the peculiar challenges of their societies, and STOP waiting – with cupped hands – on developed nations to hand-out various aids which only increase our dependence on them.

As a person who has all my life used self-taught skills to get ahead in virtually every area of endeavour I have ventured into, I have become convinced that people who truly desire to take their destiny into their own hands cannot afford to WAIT for their government or that of other countries to give them the support they need. This is because the reality from past experiences is that people in government are not likely to do the right things for as many people as need it – at least the way Africa is today. Every person who desires to achieve her dreams must be prepared to seize the initiative and look inwards to find the will and courage to pursue that objective with perseverance. Every person who wishes to live a future of their dreams must practise Self-Development.

I believe that if more individuals in our society begin to practice Self-Development the way SDAc will show them, it will only be a matter of time before we have a rapidly growing army of multi-skilled, adaptable, highly motivated and successful people who know why it is important to multiply themselves in others so as to reduce the latter’s dependence on them and so make the society flourish. That’s what happens in developed societies – and that’s why many Africans want to go there! I KNOW that we can create a similar environment here if more people learn how to become authentic successes who know how to make their success contagious and who give back tangibly to the society that makes them, so that others may benefit.

"If It’s LEGAL And Can Work In Nigeria, Then It’ll Work ANYWHERE!"

"..the biggest challenge facing most African nations is to creatively adapt ideas to their unique environment.." – Mr. Patrick Boateng, Adviser for Africa, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) at the African Internet Summit and Exhibition(AFRINET) 2002, held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Lastly, because I believe Nigeria in many ways represents to a great extent the variety of what can be found across the African continent, and also because I know that the peculiarities of the environment extant in Nigeria present more daunting challenges than will be found in most other places, I am convinced that any solution successfully implemented here will be easily adapted to other places which are burdened with less limiting social circumstances. Nigeria for SDAc is therefore like a test-center. From here, solutions that can help other societies(developing or developed) will be conceived based on (socially relevant and practical) research/experience, then tested, and if proven useful disseminated to areas they can provide sustainable "use-value". That’s why we say: "If it’s LEGAL, and can work in Nigeria, then it’ll work ANYWHERE!"

Apart from Boosting Your Credibility, Using a Web Marketing System Can Help Your Target Audience Make Smarter Decisions and Avoid Exploitation

The conversation thread linked below is one of those I sometimes encounter, that make me almost cry.

Click to read the PDF

Read through the thread to see how a concerned parent searching for competent expert help, is having to deal with unreliable advice from people with no training as well as an overzealous professional!

Imagine if a competent speech therapist had a blog with articles to inform and educate such person on what to do, where to go etc

.

The therapist can even offer to link parents up to the right experts, if s/he cannot help.

At the end, s/he would get name recognition, credibility and goodwill. Parents would talk about him/her, and his/her blog containing informative and educative articles to others. Sooner than later that will attract new and/or referral business to such a therapist.

But more importantly, s/he would be rendering a useful service that saves patients from being misled or exploited.

It goes without saying that some patients with hearing problems are also having similar experience to the parent of the child with a speech problem.

This is one of the reasons why I have been encouraging my speech pathologist and audiologist clients in particular, to adopt formal web marketing by actively using a blog and email newsletter like the ones I use and setup for others.

HERE IS THE WEB MARKETING SERVICE OFFER I’M CURRENTLY MAKING TO
BUSINESS OWNERS AS THE YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE

I offer to help you develop and implement a Web Marketing System to cost-effectively boost your company’s branding/marketing efforts…

Click the link below to read the full story about the Nigerian Farm CEO who attracted bulk buyers at zero cost to his farm in South West Nigeria, using a simple online strategy…

Click to read the PDF

If you’re interested, fill and submit the form linked in that PDF and I will send you a document that describes key features of the service I provide to help clients setup Web Marketing Systems in various industries.

When you have read through it, if you have any questions, I’ll be glad to answer them.

Click the link below to view a mind map which explains the components of a Web Marketing System.

Click to read it now

Items 1 to 4 in the above linked mind map are what I offer to do for you in this promo.

If you want it, simply make the full payment, and I’ll send you the 80 item website content generation questionnaire to get started.

For 3 full months, after the entire Web Marketing System is up and running, I will manage it on your behalf, and also teach you (or someone you nominate from your team) to learn, using video demonstrations and a PDF webmater guide I will produce for you.

Final Words

Lastly, below is a link to an article on my blog that offers prospects insights into what I mean by a Web Marketing System (WMS):

The entire change that is needed can be implemented before the New Year, and benefits like lower marketing/sales costs and increased marketing reach/impact will gradually accrue to you.

NEW BOOK: The World’s Future Prosperity Depends on Digital Multipreneurs™

This book is based on a White Paper first published online in January 2006. Tayo has since applied the ideas and strategies described in it to achieve the success he enjoys today as a Location Independent Performance Improvement Specialist and Multipreneur (i.e. a highly versatile/multi-skilled entrepreneur), with a bias for delivering Best Practice solutions to Farm Businesses and others – by providing solutions to buyers within and outside Africa.

As a Nigerian born and raised in Nigeria, Tayo is succeeding by functioning, FULL TIME, as a Location Independent Digital Multipreneur traveling slowly across West Africa.

The implications for the future of many Africans are positive, numerous, and multidimensional – especially as it relates to eliminating the problem of lack of jobs or so called lack of capital to startup businesses!

In this book, Tayo describes a strategy, which properly implemented, can make INDIVIDUALS in any society, achieve their truly great potentials, and then work together with like-minded others to help their respective countries prosper in ways unprecedented.

Towards the end, he includes a “True Case Study” section, featuring specific narratives about his personal experiences and achievements as a Digital Multipreneur serving various markets.

Reading and applying the ideas and strategies described in it, can yield similar results for YOU.

For policy and decision makers in private and public sectors, seeking tested ways to empower multitudes at less cost, and using less effort/money, this book’s contents offer limitless potentials – IF used correctly.

Tayo offers educational talks and coaching programs to support policy makers in making use of the ideas in this book to equip those they lead to succeed by becoming Digital Multipreneurs.

The best part is that even persons in paid employment can adopt this strategy on a part time basis as preparation for retirement, while boosting their income earning capability in the short term!

No. 170: Achieve Speaking Success Using Your Audience’s Local Proverbs & Stories

Popular Yoruba proverb: “Èhinkule l’ òtá wa, ilé ni aseni ngbé” [Meaning: “The enemy lies in wait in the backyard.  The traitor lives in the home”. Read story-based interpretation in photo below].To speak successfully, one must connect emotionally and intellectually with an audience. Pastor Tunde Bakare is a speaker who does that effortlessly using local proverbs, songs etc.

Few Nigerian adults do not know this small framed but fiery personality that is Bakare…

Over the years, his has remained a voice of reason, integrity and courage in the face of growing socio-political decay across the Nigerian landscape. Even when lacking support from peers and associates, Bakare has continued to speak out as the conscience of the nation.

Despite being an individual, as far as speaking the truth and demanding the right things be done are concerned, Bakare frequently makes himself heard, and taken seriously.

But that’s not because he speaks louder than others.

Instead, it’s because he is skilled at speaking with impact – by making smart use of the English language, in combination with local proverbs, songs, and folktales to get his points across.

A good way to appreciate Bakare is to listen to him speak at any gathering (political rallies, business conferences, religious events etc)

His prowess in use of the English as a lawyer is readily apparent. At the 2014 National Conference, he shone like a thousand stars in the way he articulated his views.

As a result he won over delegates from different sides of the divide on to his line of thinking. So much so that they adopted a set of ideals he conceived for reorientation of all citizens.

But what really sets Tunde Bakare apart, is the way he readily injects local (often Yoruba) proverbs and songs – into his delivery.

He uses them to drive home his message with massive impact. Due to the passion with which he speaks, the audience is often so moved that when he bursts into songs, for instance, they simply join in!

Now, an interesting thing to note here is that even though he tends to use mostly Yoruba sayings and songs, his base of followers has always remained very diverse – cutting across tribal and religious boundaries.

For instance, in his church you will find people from different Nigerian tribes and ethnic groups. Same applies to the social change advocacy groups and organisations he leads.

I believe this is because he makes sure to interpret whatever he says for ALL to understand – using relevant analogies and illustrations.

Having himself been born into a Muslim home as a child, and then later converting to Christianity as an adult, he is able to leverage his knowledge of the Muslim religion to connect with mixed audiences.

It is for this reason that Bakare is so well known and respected today in today’s Nigeria – even amongst leaders of thoughts in opposing groups and organisations to those he belongs in religion as well as politics.

Most people who have heard him are in agreement that when Bakare speaks, it’s likely to be fair, and of potential benefit to all concerned.

You can often tell a great speaker by his/her ability to CONVINCE his/her audience to see things from his/her perspective as stated above.

This is why Tunde Bakare is a great speaker – especially as it relates to communicating successfully with audiences in societies like Nigeria/Africa.

To succeed as an expert-who-speaks in Africa (and/or to Africans), I recommend YOU make out time to carefully study Pastor Tunde Bakare, when he speaks.

It’s all well and good to study Barack Obama, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and other great speakers the world has known.

However, you must keep in mind that audiences in certain societies and cultures have unique peculiarities. And those peculiarities make it imperative to speak to them using adaptations of what one learns from foreign cultures, mixed with local content to yield the right “flavour”.

My experiences and observations convince me audiences in Africa need to be approached in that manner.

Indeed, my careful studies of speakers like Bakare convince me that’s why they succeed!

In essence I’m saying that Bakare’s speaking strategy of using local proverbs, songs, and folktales/anecdotes, if intelligently adapted for use by ANY expert-who-speaks, can dramatically boost his/her chances of connecting successfully with audiences in African cultures.

Final Words: This newsletter issue is a tribute to Pastor Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare recently celebrated his 60th birthday anniversary on 11th November 2014, and he was saluted by many top leaders from within and outside the country. As usual, he delivered a powerful message regarding his vision for Nigeria.

Such relentless passion drives this man, and I am continually inspired to emulate him!

That was why I joined in the rallies organized back in January 2012, which he spearheaded to demand for the reduction of the hiked petrol prices.

It is also why I continue to seize every opportunity to hear him speak. My family (parents, wife and kids) know I do not attend church. Yet, whenever they see Bakare on TV preaching a sermon, they know enough to call me!

You see, I ALWAYS listen to his messages, because he rarely fails to link his message with bringing about positive social change in society – politically etc.

It is for this reason that this issue of my newsletter is dedicated to him on his 60th anniversary.

But let me clear: I have NEVER met him and have no desire to meet Bakare on his 60th birthday anniversary

Instead, I’ve written this piece to let others who do not know him discover him, and to let those who already know him discover what they can LEARN from him about speaking impact-fully to influence positive change in others.

If we have more who SPEAK and ACT like Tunde Bakare, in Nigeria/Africa, even the sky will not be the limit for our societies!

Below: Screenshot from a new book I’m writing. It is designed to facilitate contextual comprehension of proverbs by persons with limited proficiency.

Tentative Title: 25 “Storyfied” Yoruba Proverbs for Children – Vol. 1

Subtitle: A Story-Based Interpretation of 25 Popular Yoruba Proverbs for Persons with Limited Understanding of Yoruba

Note how I’ve used a story from an episode of a foreign movie series (Green Arrow) that I’ve been watching with my kids, to demonstrate an example of a real life situation in which the proverb I began this peice with, can be correctly used.

Most Nigerian adults today (myself included!) use the English language better than they do their own mother tongues. Even worse, many of us fail to teach our native languages to our kids. For our kids who do get taught, they often end up being far from proficient – use of proverbs being a crucial requirement for proficiency.

I recently decided to take action to help my kids become proficient in Yoruba. Incidentally, their mother has been coaching them in Igbo, her language, by speaking to them DAILY in that language – and they understand it better than they do Yoruba: That challenged me!

Also, I know that adding Yoruba (and later on French) to their Igbo and English speaking abilities can open doors for them. This is why I’ve been spending time with relatives, friends, even clients, gifted in the use of proverbs, to implement this project of mine.

The above screenshot shows the first of 25 proverbs to be published in volume 1 of the series.

I’ve NOT settled on a final for the book, but it will be published in my online store in both digital and physical formats before 31st December 2014. I plan to publish a new volume of 25 story based proverbs, EVERY quarter, till I get 100 proverbs.

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts

he’s published.

If you experience any difficulties finding a page or document, email Tayo at tksola dot com.

Click “Tayo, What Happened to SpontaneousDevelopmentDotCom ?” to read a detailed narrative about how the above event occurred :-))

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

And he wrote the one below, to explain why losing a domain name, no matter how old NO LONGER determines your online success or otherwise:
