Coming on 13th & 14th April 2015: (1) The NEW Speaking/Web Marketing IDEAS Newsletter & (2) The Cost-Saving Farm Business Best Practice Ideas Newsletter

Yesterday (Mon 6th April 2015), I DELIBERATELY did NOT publish what would have been Issue No. 188 of my Speaking IDEAS newsletter (view last week’s issue here) …because I decided to RE-INVENT myself in celebration of 2 years since I  relocated to Benin Republic on 1st April 2013.

Photo(click to view larger version): This is a screenshot of a Facebook post I made on April 2 at 8:48pm regarding the 2nd year anniversary of my relocation to Benin Republic

As a Performance Improvement Specialist, I believe in actively pursuing Continuous Improvement in EVERY area of endeavour I am engaged in.

The result of that exercise is that I now have 2 newsletters, instead of one, with a major modification in the nature of content and offers I will be making to my readers.

Newsletter No. 1: The Speaking/Web Marketing IDEAS Newsletter

Next Monday, 13th April 2013 (AFTER Nigeria’s Governorship Elections are over), the original Speaking IDEAS newsletter will return with NAME – and CONTENT – CHANGES.

When I launched the Speaking IDEAS newsletter, in 2011, it was to promote speaker mentoring products and services offered by Burt Dubin, who I represent as Sole Agent across Africa.

Over the years, I have modified my approach and strategy based on what I observed to be the trends in subscriptions and feedback from readers.

In celebrating the 2nd year anniversary of my relocation to Benin Republic (31st March 2015), I did some objective thinking, analysis and review of the results I’ve gotten

Based on the above, I decided that to ATTRACT more of my target audience, I need to modify my content to better help them discover how my newsletter, and Burt’s products/services can help them.

It is for this reason that I’m adding the Web Marketing aspect to the content of my Speaking IDEAS newsletter.

But that’s not ALL.

All subscribers to this NEW version of my newsletter will be able to take advantage of a special support service I will begin offering to ALL who choose to signup for Burt’s speaker mentoring products/services through me.

This offer basically would involve my functioning as a silent, but powerful addition to the person’s Web Marketing arsenal. Details will be available to subscribers who request them.

HINT: To achieve sustainable long terms success, an expert-who-speaks needs to develop and implement a cost-effective and efficient marketing strategy that boosts his/her chances of winning speaking invitations.

When YOU choose to purchase a Burt Dubin Speaker Mentoring Product or Service, I WILL put at YOUR disposal a specially prepared Web Marketing System and Action Plan, to enable you get up and running with using EVERYTHING you learn from Burt, to achieve the Speaking Success you desire.

Watch out for full details in NEW Speaking/Web Marketing IDEAS Newsletter – coming on Monday 13th April 2015!

Newsletter No. 2: Cost-Saving Farm Business Best Practice Ideas Newsletter

A day after the New Speaking/Web Marketing IDEAS Newsletter goes LIVE, I will send out broadcasts of the MAIDEN issue of my Cost-Saving Farm Business Best Practice Ideas Newsletter

However, unlike the Speaking IDEAS Newsletter, which is open to subscription by any interested persons, this Cost-Saving Farm Business Best Practice IDEAS Newsletter, will ONLY be sent out to member of my Inner Circle. In other words, even though a preview will be published on my blog, opening the full issue will require having YOUR OWN Inner Circle Members Only Area Login Name and Password.

Just like I’ve done with the Speaking IDEAS newsletter, the Farm IDEAS Newsletter has been conceived based on what I’ve done with my Cost-Saving Farm Business Ideas website.

I’ve carefully tested various ideas using my content marketing for years, and during my 2nd year anniversary review of the results I’ve been getting, it occurred to me that I need to take what I offer to the next level, to reward those who have chosen to take the leap of faith to join my Inner Circle.

Full details will go out with the maiden issue that I will publish on Tuesday 14th April 2015.

Final Words

The above means that I have now separated my newsletter content for Farm CEOs from that for Experts-Who-Speak (who may not necessarily be farm CEOs).

However, if you are a Farm CEO, and you really want to make the most of yourself, to maximize your income earning potential, I URGE you to subscribe to the Speaking/Web Marketing IDEAS Newsletter.

See you next week!

Attention General Buhari: Here’s a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to Assess YOUR Government’s Success!

I wrote about this KPI on my Facebook wall several months ago…

===Starts===

To determine if a country is doing well, take a close look at how the most vulnerable i.e the poor, are faring. If they are able to afford and access the basic necessities (read: Millennium Development Goals) for themselves and their dependants, then that government can be said to NOT be doing badly.

I don’t see that situation in Nigeria. But I see it here in Benin Republic. And I’ve also seen it in Ghana! The poor people there have confidently told me they have most of those things, even though they demand more performance from their government.

And I’ve lived amongst them to confirm it’s true! Sadly, in my own country, the opposite is the case. I know this because I’m a full blooded Nigerian who has experienced major hardship trying to care for my family while living and working there as an entrepreneur. When I relocated just next door to Benin Republic‘s Cotonou , I began to EXPERIENCE PEACE(Did Oceanic Bank not promise her clients that in Nigeria…?) And I’ve since moved to whole new level in my work as an online entrepreneur.

My point: Life is brutish even for those who are not poor in Nigeria! And lack of power supply is at the core of the problem. That should be the number one priority of any smart leader, who wants to positively TRANSFORM the lives of his people!!!!

We were all surprised because no one had EVER shown him how to do it. But he had apparently watched it being done enough times to figure it out for himself. And so, General Buhari, RESTORATION of uninterrupted power supply within 6 months to 1 year of your assuming office is what I recommend you focus your attention on.

If you can make that happen, I can assure you that Nigerians, being the EXTREMELY industrious people they are will make your work MUCH MUCH easier, by creating the opportunities they need to flourish!

I say this because despite YEARS of perpetual power shortage, Nigerians have continued to function actively in trade, commerce and business, to the extent that our economy remains a force to be reckoned with! Can you imagine therefore what would happen if Nigerians began having UNINTERRUPTED power supply like other Africans – making us able to STOP wasting funds buying generators and fuel???

We would become literally unstoppable, and YOU, as president would be able to use the resulting virile economic base, to implement other crucial changes needed to make Nigeria the GIANT it should be.

Fearlessly Share Your God Given Genius and Experience Superior Success

In certain societies announcing your plans to others can attract resentment, envy and criticism (e.g that you’re a show-off). Some may even plot to pull you down. This explains why a childhood friend recently expressed concern about an update I posted on Facebook of my plans to move my family to Cotonou.

Read my response below, in which I explain that I’ve done it for years, to defy haters, and also inspire others to do same, so that society can progress.

Good point .

However what you noted is EXACTLY why I do things the way I do them. You see certain aspects of our culture, for me, need overhaul. One of them is what you referred to about people’s attitude. I’ve successfully defied them for years (not without struggle/pain of course) and will continue doing so.

The Americans especially are my role models. Everything Nigerians see me succeeding at today is because I refuse to let negative attitudes of others dictate how I do my thing.

My heroes (like Fela, Branson, Dan Kennedy, Kiyosaki) had the habit of breaking rules and being contrarian, yet succeeding despite bad belle.

My Facebook postings are aimed at showing others how to deal successfully with society’s negativity to achieve worthwhile goals in life.

We in Nigeria fail often to understand that we need to look beyond ourselves, and seek to make a difference in society for the benefit of others.

The irony is that Facebook is being used by millions all over the world to do just that!

In my case my Facebook presence is an extension of my Web Marketing System. Unlike many others, my Facebook is a key component of my business marketing arsenal.

Proof of this is evident in the fact that over 25% of my Facebook friends actually started as buyers of my solutions and/or subscribers to my website (including several non Africans).

A look at my Facebook profile and cover photos both indicate that I want my business interest to feature on my Facebook presence.

For me therefore, anyone who wants to be in my Facebook space will simply have to put up with whatever I post. If they dislike a particular one, they can either click away, or unfriend me. No be by force ke!

You see, there’s no value to be had in keeping friends who cannot accept you unconditionally and share in what pleases you, as you do with them.

My plan to relocate is not just personal. It is the next step in the evolution of my plan to boost my growing name and brand recognition in a way that will win me speaking invitations across the continent.

The young man I’m mentoring on Web Marketing here in Lagos was with me yesterday evening and we discussed his balance payment to join my Inner Circle, and next steps on learning Joomla and WordPress. He earns a living selling GNLD and similar products from door to door.

When he found out how I sell without even going around physically, he told me he wanted to be able to do the same. And that’s how we started!

By deliberately posting news of my plans and progress (as I’ve done for years) I document real life examples of how I built my brand for others like him to learn from. The timeline helps me show my success did not happen overnight!

There are many like him across Africa looking for guidance like the one I offer.

So, for me, being on Facebook is not an ego trip.

Indeed this is bigger than me. What I’m doing is based on a God given vision and mission. Most of what you see me post are often stuff that I just get inspired to write on the spur of the moment.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that God is using me as a vessel to pass messages to others, to wake them up to do what he expects of them.

And what he expects is that each of us will not “hide our lamp under a bushel” but instead boldly maximize our God given potential for others to be inspired, and for Him to be glorified.

I think the quote below perfectly sums up what I’ve tried to say above

=start quote=

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ― Marianne Williamson

Once again, thanks for your concern, and I hope the above gives you a better perspective to understand the motives behind what you see me do online. I’m working a life long plan my brother!

Learn to Generate Multiple Streams of Income on Your Farm, to Overcome Adversity (Special Anniversary Offer: Celebrating 2 Years As a Location Independent Multipreneur Serving Farm CEOs and Others)

Do you run a poultry farm? Are you aware that poultry farmers across Nigeria have been losing their flocks to Bird Flu? (Or has it happened to you?) Do you know there are multiple ways to generate extra earnings to CUSHION losses from disease outbreaks or other setbacks in your farm business?

My recent phone chats with Farm CEO clients/contacts (click for details) suggests most would answer “NO”!

My concern led me to have a long phone conversation on Fri 20/3/2015 with the current DG of Poultry Association of Nigeria – Mr. Akpa. I noted that that farmers lack support to deal with unexpected crises like bird flu, and many have lost their lifetime investments due to the death of their entire flocks.

We had a very useful exchange, and I have since sent him a PDF letter offering to share the ideas I propose in a FREE talk.

I believe the ideas I have can help farm owners prevent and/or overcome problems like those mentioned above, without going under.

I want to help interested farmers. However doing so requires a relationship to be built/nurtured, as there is a lot of learning and work involved.

That’s why I’m making the anniversary offer outlined below…asking interested farm owners to join my Inner Circle.

SPECIAL OFFER: Yesterday 31st March 2015 made it exactly 2 years since I relocated to Cotonou as a bilingual Location Independent Multipreneur.

Today I have clients from across Africa, Europe, America and UAE.

To celebrate, I’m offering to help farm CEOs setup systems to generate extra income aside from just selling farm products (eggs, meat etc) directly.

Succeed More Often by Anticipating Problems/Preparing Backup Plansa

What is your crisis management ability like or better still, how good are you at anticipating and avoiding/preventing crisis in your business operations(e.g. outage of essential manufacturing components which leads to lost output/sales)? How good are you at assessing trends of events, and quickly determining sources of potential problems?

This article explains why the good business practice of pro-actively developing alternative plans of action, to be implemented in the event of setbacks or crisis situations occurring, is an essential requirement for business longevity.

Do You Have Backup/Alternative Action Plans For When Your Business Suffers Unexpected Setbacks?

“One way to succeed is to work hard at not failing by always anticipating problems before they occur” – Peter Drucker

Certain successful entrepreneurs are reputed to be uncomfortable with “good times” i.e. when everything appears to be going “smoothly”. According to one book I have read, these individuals formed this habit as a result of past experiences, when such “good times” in their businesses were followed by a string of unexpected setbacks.

Their experiences apparently “trained them” to be sensitive to unseen but possibly impending problems or “danger”. During “good times” therefore, instead of relaxing and celebrating, they quickly develop/implement strategies aimed at addressing the problems they anticipate or fears they have.

Having Back Up Plans Can Help You Reduce Your Frequency Of Failure

Having back up plans will not guarantee you absence of failure. But it can ensure that you reduce the frequency of your failures, and/or don’t record avoidable failures. In addition, the back up plans will enable you bounce back quickly from your setbacks.

And that is of utmost importance. As most of us must have heard at one time or the other, it’s not falling down that matters. But being able to get up and keep going every time you fall down is what really matters. Backup plans will enable you do this much more easily, effectively and frequently.

Developing back up plans will help you prepare to deal with any suggestions of delays, disappointments or failures that might occur. It will make it easier for you to keep a positive outlook when things appear not to be going well – because you will be confident in the knowledge that you have an alternative plan(s) already in place.

How To Develop A Backup Plan

So how do you draw up your plan? Simple really. Just ask yourself questions. Imagine you are not you. (It’s easier than you think, I assure you). Just try and imagine that you’re one of those “nay-sayers” or unbelieving people who question your sanity, possibly because they do not understand your business idea.

Then proceed to generate the kinds of questions(or reasons/arguments) you think they would come up with, to prove that what you want to do cannot be done.

It might not be a bad idea to actually approach these individuals with the objective of deliberately getting them to discuss their thoughts about your ideas with you. Be smart about it. Make it look natural – start a conversation and gradually steer it to the subject you want them to comment upon.

Very often I have found people like this especially eager, and they relish the opportunity to tell you why they are right and you are wrong to try doing it the way you intend.

Never mind all that, just “record” all you can and then withdraw to generate action plans that will help you effectively ensure that those reasons they’ve given/questions they’ve raised, can be effectively addressed through the action plan you will develop.

Next, decide on the order in which you will implement items in the action plan you have come up with. Then commence doing so. As things progress, depending on your judgment of whether or not the plan you are working is doing well, you can then initiate implementation of other plans.

You will find that some of your plans will require you to seek assistance of certain individuals at short notice. If possible plan ahead and hint them that you might need them. Members of your mastermind alliance(especially those who do NOT take setbacks or problems too seriously) could prove useful in these circumstances.

How Having A Backup Plan Helped Me Win A Speaking Invitation

When I first started out in business in early 2002, I had just finished writing my latest management research paper titled “Self-Development As A Tool For Achieving Career Advancement(A Practical Guide Based On Experience)”. I recall vividly that after reading through my work on that paper, I repeatedly told my wife, brother, friends – and all who cared to listen – that I believed it was my best work so far. I also told them I was convinced I could win the next Nigerian Institute of Management’s (NIM’s) Young Manager’s competition (I had placed fifth in the National Finals on my debut in 1997).

So I began making enquiries about the competition, but was told the programme was not yet out. Something however began pushing me to make alternative plans to get my paper in front of the leaders of thought in management who I believed would be able to give me useful feedback.

One evening I sat down and began writing down the names of organisations/individuals who I felt would be able to give me authentic and useful criticisms. People like Dr. J. Y Maiyaki, Director General of Center for Management Development, and many others.

I prepared letters to each of these people, and hand delivered them with a copy of the neatly spiral bound paper to their offices. My objective was to use that paper to draw attention to myself with respect to my work on Self-Development Education. That was between January and late February 2002.

Some months later it became obvious that the NIM competition would not hold, so I was glad I had implemented my other plans. But not as glad as I was when in August 2002, I got a visit from the Training Manager of the Center for Management Development (CMD) who wanted to know if I could meet with them for a discussion, towards leading their September 2002 staff seminar by delivering my paper on Self-Development Education at their main auditorium.

After about 3 meetings, agreements on honorarium to be paid, event date and time, etc were reached, and on Wednesday 25th September 2002, I successfully delivered a one-hour talk to an audience of over 100 persons including directors and other staff, in the CMD’s main auditorium.

(Read my article titled “I Flopped Badly At The National Finals!(A True Story About How NOT To Prepare For/Deliver An Important Presentation)” to learn more how I used learnings from a botched presentation during the 1997 NIM national competition – that took place 5 years BEFORE – to successfully deliver my presentation at the CMD’s Staff Seminar in 2002 without a hitch, despite a potentially destabilizing power failure occurrence).

Summary

Aside from positive verbal and written feebdack(I got back over 80 of the speaker evaluation forms I circulated to the audience, with an average rating of 4 – on a scale of 1[poor] to 5[excellent]) the CMD also sent me a letter of apprecia

Did I achieve my objective of getting myself and my work noticed/acknowledged by leaders of thought in my niche or area? Yes I did. But I had to pro-actively develop(based on actively observing trends of events, and considering their possible implications) and implement an alternative plan in place of the one I had originally started out with. Be prepared to do that when(NOT if) the need arises.

No. 187: When You Experience a Setback, You Need a Viable Alternative (Hint: Attend a FREE Talk About Ideas to Cushion Income Loss!)

Doing business can be risky. As an expert in your field, in the process of delivering your products/services to clients, you may suffer losses.

Achieving sustainable success depends on having support systems backed by a reliable Action Plan, to cushion such losses any time they occur.

Otherwise, it could mean failure for you. This article offers ideas you can use.

Early last week, even as the Presidential Elections loomed, I continued my routine of calling on farm CEO clients/contacts in my network to ask how they were doing, and how I could help.

I’ve done this for YEARS, with no ulterior motives. Only once in a while do I reach out with something to sell.

That’s why I enjoy great friendships with many. Most times I aim to identify their points of need, to guide me in creating new or improved solutions (software, information products, concepts, ideas etc) to help them.

When I called Bitrus E. in Jos, something about his tone struck me as different. And I did not have to ask, because he told me within a few seconds. It was the Bird Flu epidemic (aka The Ebola for Poultry) that had him in a bad mood.

It turned out he’d also lost a good number of birds in his flock to the disease. He said: “Look Tayo, I don’t want to talk about Poultry for now. You can talk about anything else, but not poultry.”

Coming from a client who had 6 months earlier enthusiastically purchased my Poultry Farm Manager software, that statement really touched me.

I knew he had to be hurting.

We talked a bit more, and I ended the call, promising to get back to him. Then I called Alhaji Usman S. in Kano and asked if he’d seen or heard at his end about the Bird Flu outbreak, he promptly said:

“Of course Tayo. Look we’ve lost over 300,000 birds in Kano since it began. Everybody is aware of it. This is something that’s been on for a while now!”

Then I recalled that early in January, there had been reports of some isolated cases discovered by the authorities. However, the impression I got from the report was that they had been contained.

From speaking with my farm CEO clients, it’s become apparent, to me, that the authorities do NOT really know how to STOP the flu when it breaks out.

As a result, farmers are basically left to fend for themselves, at the mercy of this epidemic.

I tried calling Henry I. another Farm CEO in Jos. He did not pick up. So I sent an SMS asking if he had any news. He replied that what Bitrus had said was true.

Another farm owner I called was an elderly farm CEO in Ikorodu-Lagos (also an Alhaji, but not a client), who told me he’d taken the precaution of slaughtering (according to him now) what amounted to over fifty thousand (50, 000) layers, to avoid losing them to the epidemic.

That way, he got to sell them for meat. But anyone who knows anything about poultry business will understand what a huge sacrifice he had to make by doing so.

Birds in lay are not a short term investment. So, in the long run, he’s incurred a hefty loss on several fronts!

All of this was a big surpise to me, especially because ALL the links I saw on Google despite repeat searches were dated for January 2015 and earlier. Nothing recent or updated to reflect the realities facing the farmers.

Still not satisfied I called yet another farm CEO, this time in Egbeda on the outskirts of Lagos.

This one was also not a client, and had only made enquiries about my Poultry Farm Manager, some months earlier. He told me his farm was not affected, but that he was aware that several farms on Lagos Island/Lekki area were.

A call to Nene J. a farm CEO and a member of the academia revealed she also had not been affected, but she also confirmed that she knew of others who had suffered losses.

Once I was done with her, I googled around a bit for contact details of stakeholders I could speak with.

First I found the contact details for a Nigeria based consultant whose profile showed he’d done lots of work in agribusiness development for International Organizations and the government.

When I called him up, however, he was VERY quick to tell me the “government” was giving compensations to the affected farmers. When I asked some of my farmers, they told me they never heard any such thing.

Next I called the DG of the Poultry Association of Nigeria – Mr. Akpa – with whom I spent over 20 minutes in serious discussion…

I explained that I believed the negative events could discourage others from venturing into Agriculture, and raised the issue about the need to inform and educate farm CEOs on how to:

(a) adopt best practice bio-security measures against disease outbreaks and

(b) generate complementary/additional income streams to boost their earnings/cushion the income loss from crises.

My interest was – and is – solely to OPEN the eyes of farm CEOs to glaring opportunities they have to do MUCH better than they do now.

Their core businesses can be complemented by side businesses based mainly on their knowledge and expertise as farm business owners.

The truth is we need to make farm businesses succeed on a sustainable basis, if we hope to get MORE people to believe agriculture is worth investing in.

For that to happen, we MUST TEACH farmers to be MORE ENTREPRENEURIAL in their dispositions!

QUESTION: What happens when farmers experience inevitable setbacks like the bird flu incident?

The scenario I’ve painted above shows that farmers are left to sort themselves out when crises of this kind befall them.Maybe it’s not deliberate on the part of farmer support providers, but that IS what’s happening.

Some stakeholder have made the valid point that many farmers bring this problem upon themselves when they fail to take recommended biosecurity precautions.

I agree that this happens. However, I believe that even if farmers are at fault, we cannot leave them to deal with the consequences alone.

If we do, those considering starting farms of their own will be discouraged!

In my considered opinion, it is better to TEACH farmers how to operate their businesses in a manner that minimizes chances of crises happening. And when crises Do occur, they must be told how to keep afloat by engaging in related activies that earn them tangible income – to cushion the losses!

As a way forward, I propose that industry stakeholders/policy makers organize learning events to “TEACH farmers:

(a) Best Practice Farm Management for Profits”…and also how to(b) “Earn Extra Income from Your Farm at ZERO COST”.

The above two titles actually make up the theme of the FREE learning event I NOW offer (title below) to any interested groups of business owners:

TITLE = Tested & Proven Ideas to Cushion Income Loss In ANY Business by Generating Multiple Complementary Streams of Income

I offer this talk to business owners in ANY field, vocation or industry: Note that I do NOT need to be an expert in your field to make my ideas work for you!

Indeed, some of the ideas I share in this talk will NOT be found in any one book or website.

Where similarities exist, attendees will discover in most cases, that I have made drastic modifications to suit the peculiar needs of the markets I’ve used them.

I can also confirm to you that some are MY OWN original conceptions and innovations based on years of personal experience.

As I said I do NOT seek any payment for THIS talk – but those inviting me have to meet certain terms and conditions (click here to request details)…

I want to see MORE business owners succeed SMARTER like I do (i.e. with less effort, in less time, using less money/resources).

By way of interest, I earn over 80% of my income via passively generated sales of my information products and custom Excel-VB software e.g. my Poultry Farm Manager (http://tinyurl.com/15pfmVideos) and my Ration Formulator (http://tinyurl.com/RealRationDemo).

The PDF speaker sheet linked below gives details of a talk that touches on aspects of what I will discuss in the above mentioned event…

Final Words: As an expert-who-speaks, what if, contrary to last year’ raving success, you find you’re not getting anything close to enough PAID speaking invitations, to meet your needs?

In other words, have you considered how you would make money if you did NOT get hired by clients for a protracted period?

Do you earn income in any other way aside from getting paid for your speaking service by your clients?

Do you have ANY other solutions you’ve prepared, that are ready to deploy, or that you already deploy to generate useful additional income to complement what client projects bring in for you?

If not, I ask you why NOT?

Do you think it (i.e. sudden income loss due to an unexpected setback) cannot happen to YOU?

Do you think some unexpected change in the economy, or priorities, of those you serve cannot force them to (regretfully) change their plans about hiring you to speak?

I urge you to be wise, and proactive. Anything can go wrong at anytime. This is why it’s always best to be prepared (as the boys’ scouts would say).

Even when all goes well, having a complementary income source will boost your earnings – not a bad thing. and that CAN keep you from going under, if/when your main income source suffers any setback.

You have NOTHING to lose, and everything to gain by taking steps to put this “protective income generation cushion” in place for yourself.

Indeed, depending on what part of the world you’re in, the LIFE of your business might just depend on doiing just that!

Take it from me.

I have had to GROW my brand from literally nothing (enduring YEARS in Nigeria’s VERY harsh socio-economic environment) to attain the increasing recognition and relevance I enjoy today, in/out of Africa, by DOING exactly what propose here.

Think about it, and you’ll see it’s better to be safe than sorry on this matter.

Good luck!

If Nigerians Outside Nigeria Could Vote Without Needing to Cross Borders, Election Results Would SCREAM “CHANGE” MUCH LOUDER!

[NB: 10:19 p.m Sun 29th Mar 2015 – Voting began today, but now extended by INEC till tomorrow – ] This article was originally (before being relocated here) published as a Facebook Note yesterday – Sat 28th Mar 2015]

Most (but NOT all) Nigerians living in other countries yearn for a change in the leadership of this nation – to match what they see where they live/work. This is why I believe MORE Nigerians would speak if they could vote remotely…without needing to travel down to Nigeria.

Read my true story below to find out why I say this:

I just returned (8.30p.m today 27th March 2015) from the Seme border after my 3rd failed attempt at crossing into Lagos. I crossed over into Cotonou later than I’d planned on Wednesday 25th March 2015, due to a serious hold up at the Lagos end.

My thinking was that the normal 24 hours before election day rule would be used before the borders would be closed.

So, I’d planned to return latest the next evening, as I’ve done many times in the past well under 24 hours, shuttling between both cities.

I was wrong.

The next morning I read online that the borders were ordered shut the midnight of the day I crossed into Cotonou!

But I refused to believe I would not make it back. To me, there was no way I would not get back. Not after all the pains I took way back in December 2014 to come home just to pick up my Voters Card.

When my friend Salifou Moumouni got a call from me, he said “What are you still doing here, when the borders to your country have been shut already.” I told him I was not bothered, and that I was sure I would get through.

I did not know I was in for a rude awakening…

Since that evening, yesterday, I have been to the border 3ce, and NOT once did I get beyond the Beninese end.

It was intriguing to see all sorts of exchanges take place each time I visited.

I’ll leave you to imagine why…but I can tell you that I heard shocking accounts of extortion those who crossed over had to put up with from the Benin end right through to the Nigerian end.

Here’s a hint: I recall meeting 8 young managers of a certain well known corporate organization getting told they would have to drop a hefty “something” per person, just as I arrived, if they wished to get across. They’d countered by offering half of that amount.

The uniformed Beninese officer bluntly rejected it. If it was like that at the Benin end, there was no saying what it would be like at the Nigerian end. That thought it was, I think, that made them call their driver back to pick them up and take them back to Cotonou.

I stayed back stubbornly thinking I could find a way. By 8p.m, I’d not made any headway, and had to return to Cotonou.

As I type this, I am seated in one of the 4 preferred cafes I work from whenever I’m here in Cotonou.

Yesterday, I was the last customer to leave at past MIDNIGHT. The young man who manages the place, is more like a friend, and readily indulges my need to work longer than most others.

By way of interest, I find it amazing the way socioeconomic pressures in Lagos deny the owner of my preferred cafe over there the opportunity to earn more by staying open longer.

That’s just one of many reasons I look forward to the CHANGE I believe tomorrow’s election will bring in the leadership of Nigeria. It pains me that after all this anticipation and activity, I will be unable to put my vote to use along with those of millions others who want what I want: GMB as president.

However, I believe that our UNITED hearts will create the impelling force needed to inspire many more to vote WHAT WE WANT, so that the inadvertent absence of like minded persons like me, will not cost us the change we desire.

My kids just called me today, the 13 year old boy specifically saying:

“Tayo, will be you be able to vote from there?”

I told him NO, and explained that I would not be coming home till after the elections were over.

Later on, after the call ended, it occurred to me that if Nigeria had setup her voting systems properly, many Nigerians outside the country, who desire to have a say in choosing the new leadership, would have been empowered to do so – REMOTELY. Then the closure of the borders would NOT have mattered at all to me, or any other persons.

Today’s technology makes doing this VERY possible. And Nigeria has the money – and manpower/resources – to deploy such a value adding voting platform successfully, if she wants to!

It is my hope that we will get a new leadership, who will make things work the way they should, so that Nigeria can become the truly great nation that the WHOLE WORLD knows it can be.

To you, my fellow change seekers, I say, PLEASE go out and cast your votes, knowing that those of us unable to join you physically, are with you in spirit.

You can be sure I will NOT miss the elections following this one.

#SaiBuhari!

PS: One more reason I’m posting this is to…

…minimize the chances of my learning later on that I voted in tomorrow’s election…which would either imply I used juju to get down to my polling booth on the outskirts of Ogun state, or an identical twin brother I never knew existed did me the favour of taking my place, so I would not be disenfranchised. INEC take note O!

A Lesson on Why You Need to Reject Failure to Achieve Success

This is an inspirational mind map (based on Abraham Lincoln’s Life) on how to use “blind faith” and a “refusal to recognize failure” to achieve ANY goal you set. If he gets elected Nigeria’s president tomorrow Saturday 28th March 2015, General I believe the story of Muhammadu Buhari’s dogged determination, despite repeat failures, CAN also be used to inspire people.

Special Anthem for a “New Nigeria” – Watch Video, Download MP3!

These words are from a GREAT video I watched (link below) aptly titled “New Nigeria”. Kudos to the authors!

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=457071861111571&pnref=story

“Arise o compatriots.

The time has come for us determine the destiny of our nation. To rewrite our history.

This is our time, this is our moment.

This is our opportunity to transit our nation from a country of potential, to fully realise the greatness in our nation.

To prove the world right that indeed Nigeria is a great nation. Not only for the richness of our land, but the ingenuity of our people.

The determination of a generation to change, from ordinary to extraordinary, usual to unusual, inferior to superior.

The time has come for us to think differently, and smartly, in the way we plan, develop and build our nation.

This is the time of the courageous generation, truly ready for the real change, change in general, general change, change in the way we run our country, change in the way we manage our resources, change in the way operate our institutions, change in the way we treat our laws and administer justice, change in the way we build, change in the way we see and treat ourselves, and how we position our country in the world.

We think not of today, not even tomorrow, but far into the future.

The change we all desire is here. People’s change, general change, a clean slate for a bright future.

Be ready for people’s choice, people’s change, general change.

Vote people’s General. Vote Muhammadu Buhari for president.”

The above words are from an EXCELLENT video (link below) I watched aptly titled “New Nigeria”. Kudos to the authors!

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=457071861111571&pnref=story

I got my kids to watch and write out verbatim, the words from the video and then to EACH memorize it, and recite before the family…just the same way they do the National Anthem and Pledge respectively. I believe ALL OUR KIDS need to imbibe the essence of the powerful vision painted with the words in this video.

This is why I created an MP3 version which I copied to a memory card for the player used by my kids, and we play it back many times daily as a reminder of where we want Nigeria to go. It is my considered opinion that every responsible parent should do this with his/her kids – it’s a powerful way to get them involved in the movement for change… regardless of whether they are of voting age.

My schedule shuttling more often between Nigeria and Benin Republic makes it so hard for me to make out time to do my extracurricular typing like I used to. So, I asked my 15 year old so to type out the words he transcribed from the video – which you NOW read.

By the time you see this, I will have published these words on my blog (see http://tinyurl.com/sdnvote4change), with a download link to the MP3 version that I created, which people can playback on their mobile phones etc (just 2 MB approx) – click the link below to download the MP3.

Does Your Website JUSTIFY the Money You Spend?

[NB: This article was first published online on June 25, 2009] I have decided to focus more attention on helping business owners develop and implement low cost web marketing systems and strategies that will increase their marketing mileage, while lowering their expenses.

But in doing this, I have noticed the following trend amongst many Nigerian business owners and decision makers. Please note that those I refer to here are people whose businesses lend themselves naturally to marketing via the web right here in Nigeria.

1. Denial:

Many are rather defensive when approached about using a website or adopting web marketing adapted for the Nigerian environment. They often say they don’t need either, or that “Nigerians’ don’t use the Internet” to the extent that makes it worth investing in marketing to them through that medium.

I say, even if that were true (which it is NOT), you would be better off being one of the first to use web marketing to promote your products/services to Nigerians, since that would make you stand out, and get you noticed. Isn’t marketing ultimately about “creating awareness” about what you offer, at least in the initial stages?

It’s a pity some Nigerians feel they must be able to physically “touch” what they invest in for business!

2. Lack of Understanding:

Some do not understand, and refuse to be bothered. They can afford to be like this, because their competitors are either the same or like those in 1. above.

But here’s the danger: One day, one or more of those not bothered today, will suddenly “discover” the power of marketing intelligently to Nigerians via the web, right here in Nigeria, and begin to use it – gaining a competitive edge, and possibly driving the rest under.

What I find most amusing is that many of these decision makers usually readily say they have websites, and that it is working for them.

But you never see their web addresses displayed anywhere on their company premises, or even signs. In many cases, they even place adverts on radio/TV and even newspapers without including the URL of the website they spend money to keep online annually!

Believe me, I do not exaggerate. I once found myself having to ask a client why he had left out his website address from a – far from being cheap – quarter page advert he had placed in a national daily!!

In essence, I am saying “Your Website Needs To JUSTIFY The Money You Spend” on it. Basically there are two ways to confirm if it does. You will check to see if it either (a). Saves you money/time or (b). Helps you make more sales or – even better – if it does both.

Now, to get your site to do the above, you need to adopt intelligent website marketing systems.

Below I provide two examples of businesses that would benefit greatly from active use of intelligent website marketing systems:

————————————–

Example 1: Bookshops in Nigeria

…are perfect candidates not just for website ownership, but more importantly for intelligent web marketing. If you own or run one and do not use web marketing to complement your offline marketing, here in Nigeria, YOU ARE LOSING GREAT potential customers, and SPENDING MORE THAT you need to.

Think about it for a minute: All those books, videos, tapes by great authors, with wonderful messages on various powerful subjects of interest.

If you were to do a publication that reviewed different book titles periodically to a list of opt-in subscribers, you would over time build interest in some of them, to call in and place orders.

Call me and I will tell you how you can go about it

Example 2: Estate/Properties Management

Any decision maker in a company engaged in sale and management of properties, especially where so many companies compete, NEEDS to look for NEW, and unique ways to separate hers from the crowd.

Think about it. These days, most of these companies use similar looking flyers, banners, bill boards, cars, and even (for those who bother) websites!

Yet EACH one wants busy potential customers (with little time to “explore” every “good” offer in making up their minds) to see it as offering better value than the others.

The truth is most customers simply go with their instincts – or a friend’s suggestion. However, if they had the opportunity to get MORE detail about what each company is about, what it offers etc, over a period of time, they could end up choosing a different company!

Such details could be obtained via subscription for instance, to a website newsletter; and/or a PDF report on “Choosing the Right Home or Property”; and/or an electronic course on “How To Value Property” etc.

Any company that offers the above, and actively uses intelligent web marketing to promote them to win new customers, greatly increases its chances of getting found by new customers who will ultimately take action to do business with it.

Summary

Your business can spend LESS than it currently does on marketing, if you adopt intelligent web marketing systems of the type I advocate.

There is a WAY to make this happen. It’s not just about writing something and sending it out. And it’s not about getting a super graphic web designer to put all the flash designs and animations in the world on your website!

You NEED the know-how to do it right, and make it work.

Like I tell a lot of people, Google, in my opinion is the ugliest (or “blandest”) site on the net. Yet, it makes billions of dollars through people who keep going back to it – and it’s not because they get to see fancy graphics on the site! Get it?
