3. Cassava Meal: To Replace Maize

Cassava meal (with its potentially toxis cyanogenic acid content made safe) has been tested and found usable at 30–40% in nutritionally balanced, pelleted diets. It’s high in starch and energy, but low in protein and powdery. Details are available in a 2011 research paper published by I.O. Udoh and U.E. Umoren, both of the University of Calabar. They tested 12 locally available feed as alternatives to traditional carbohydrate, energy and protein sources.

In my opinion however, especially with talk about Cassava bread coming up, I believe Cassava may soon suffer the same fate as Maize.

4. Cultured Daphnia (for catfish fries): To Replace Artemia

Daphnia – commonly called “water fleas” – are tiny high protein crustaceans that proliferate in puddles or stagnant pools. They rarely grow beyond a few millimeters, no matter how well they eat. I once read somewhere that if fish could write, daphnia would be at the top of their grocery list. Based on my personal experience rearing and feeding daphnia to feed my ornamental fish (and also from observing both baby and adult farm catfish feed on them), I could not agree more.

But more seriously, and like I said in my article titled “Producing Good Catfish is Important, But Finding Good Buyers is Imperative!”, catfish farmers can – and should – rear daphnia, especially to SAVE money in feeding their fries. This is better than wasting time and manpower harvesting wild daphnia from roadside gutters – or feeding fries exclusively with expensive Artemia.

I successfully applied what I learnt about rearing daphnia, to the extent that I stopped buying N600 imported fish food twice a month, for ornamental fish I kept in a 2 year old 20 gallon aquarium in 2004. I knew from experience that applying the principles to a larger farm would be a matter of scaling up, and then testing.

When Kenneth, a friend who managed a fish farm visited and saw me siphoning out daphnia from my blooming culturing tanks, he said “Wow, I’m the one who studied Fisheries in the university. I should be doing what you’re doing for my own farm fish!”

That says it all, doesn’t it?

There’s No Need to Re-Invent the Wheel

As a farmer, you must be practical in your thinking, and focus on evolving solutions that work for you. It should be obvious by now that waiting for government can take a while. You can do a lot for yourself in the meantime.

I realize objections will arise about the workability of the ideas advocated here. Indeed, in discussing them in a real life forum with practicing big time farmers, some saw reason, but a few offered experience based arguments against it.

Sometimes The WRONG We See Are Symptoms of a Deeper Root Cause or Ailment

The Yorubas have a saying that goes thus:

“Amukun eru e wo, oke le nwo…e o wo isale”.

Contextual Translation: A distorted state of affairs can often be traced to an equally distorted foundation on which the affairs are being conducted”

This 670 word piece is my “contribution” to recent debates about President Buhari’s performance so far in office. I argue that Buhari’s seeming reluctance to proceed with RAPID governance may be a reflection of distortions he’s having to deal with in establishing RELIABLE systems to ensure success.

Today, I visited the Nigerian head office of an (over 50 year old) international organization, with branches across the world.

They’ve been in Nigeria now for about 11 years or so.

My purpose was to investigate certain assertions/allegations made by some individuals I’d interacted with about the transparency and integrity of their business operations.

Some claimed the company was unethical in its rewards and recognition scheme implementation – denying them of worthwhile financial rewards for their efforts.

Others claimed the opposite was the case.

By the time I left ONE hour later, I’d gotten a VERY clear impression of what the actual problem was:

Those who had failed to ACT in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations of the organization, had over time forced the company to modify the manner in which it administers its rewards and recognition scheme differently from what obtains across its other branches across the world.

The top officer I spoke with gave me graphic examples of how individuals/groups employed crooked tactics to reap undue rewards for themselves to the detriment of the company’s finances and image.

This included trips organized for them to travel abroad. Nigerians were doing things that people from other countries had NEVER done. That forced the management to change its rules for NIGERIA!!!

Now if I had any doubts about all that he told me, the various WARNING notices I read pasted on the walls as I walked out of the premises helped to lend credence to the defense he put up.

One that stuck clearly in my memory had to do with members of the organization being warned against making false claims to their banks about payments received. Basically, these individuals connived with others to make false claims designed to get them unmerited product issues!

I share the above to point out something that I have seen even in religious organizations as well as across Nigerian society.

There is an unwillingness to put the team, or group or organization’s interests ahead of the individuals.

Each person, no matter how much “preaching” is done to him/her continues to THINK “self” first and actively explore opportunities to rewards him/herself FIRST (or ONLY).

This is why Nigerians are difficult to lead. It is also why it can be very difficult to find people who can lead selflessly to work with selfless others in a government that is committed to delivering change.

I have learnt the hard way from 7 years of working in a large corporate manufacturing multinational that “politics” can cripple the most talented assembly of achievers.

All it takes is one negatively minded person who decides to ONLY act if/when his/her vested interests are taken care of, to SPOIL the efforts of the others. I saw a lot of this in the corporate world.

And I saw just how skilful those who did these negative things were at concealing their actions, and making others who were innocent look either guilty or incompetent or both!

Now, consider the fact that the corporate workplace is still a CONTROLLED environment with rules enforced more firmly than is the case in the real dog-eat-dog world we live in outside paid employment….

Maybe then we will begin to understand the scary variables/dynamics that political office holders with honest intents may have to deal with, in order to build and manage a WINNING team to deliver the promises rewards – and that, over a 4 year period or longer.

I personally believe Obama, when he took over at the height of America’s economic crisis had LESS to worry about on the HUMAN RESOURCES front (in terms of people to choose to work with him) than PMB is having to deal with.

This is why I believe it’s still too early to demand much from Buhari…

But that’s not to excuse what is being called the snail pace at which he seems to be moving. Instead, I feel it may be better to move at snail pace and get it right, than move faster and fall flat on your face.

All of the above is of course MY opinion.

Having said ALL of the above, it is worthwhile to add that NONE of what I’ve said above is to be taken to imply I support a perpetual snail’s pace to governance by Buhari.

What I’ve instead tried to say here is that I feel it would be good to give him MORE time to settle in.

PS: It goes without saying that you do NOT have to agree with me…that’s the way the world is – sometimes we have to AGREE to DISAGREE!

Every now and then I get inquiries from visitors to my website about learning solutions I offer. Some are in paid employment, while others are either self-employment or hunting for jobs. Most assume I routinely run learning events – which I don’t.

What I offer are called On-Demand Learning events for individuals and groups i.e individuals and/or groups let me know which of my learning solutions they want, and I prepare/deliver it to them at an agreed date/time/venue

The 2 examples below are formal on-demand learning events that tend to interest/benefit majority of people who desire to earn PASSIVE income:

Generally, I have a DELIBERATE focus on DELIVERING learning solutions that SHOW people how to EARN more without needing to work MORE (or indeed while they sleep i.e. PASSIVE income!)

This is because I see too many people struggling with MONEY ISSUES despite their education, and/or employment – and I have suffered it too!

However, I always FIRST identify what EACH person is most passionate about, in order to recommend a specific learning path for him/her.

In order to do that, my question to the prospective attendee would be:

What is it that YOU want to do/be in life most passionately?

Have YOU identified a SPECIFIC purpose, based on a passion YOU have, that YOU would like to pursue?

In the Personal Success Achievement industry, we call it having a Magnificent Obsession (MO)…

My MO is creating a variety of solutions to help others do what they do better (Examples are the DVD learning products, Web marketing solutions, custom software etc that I constantly churn out)

I could also ask: what is it that YOU currently do, that YOU want to get better at?

Does what YOU want to do, or that YOU already do, yield the kind of income (and/or other benefits) YOU want, or is there room for improvement?

If it yields the kind of income (and/or other benefits) YOU want, does it give YOU the kind of FREEDOM YOU want, or are YOU often strained and stressed from doing it?

YOUR answers to the above would equip me to offer specific recommendations on Learning Solutions YOU can adopt from those I offer (or which I can prepare specifically for YOU)…

Once we have identified likely solutions, other questions would be:

How do YOU prefer to learn?

Some people like self-study tools.

Others like to attend LIVE events with the facilitator in front of them.

Over the past decade, I’ve discovered that I serve an audience of mainly busy people in DIFFERENT geographical locations – with VERY varied preferences.

So, I’ve learnt to offer flexible options.

Several times in the past, we’ve had to arrange private individual or small group sessions (with me coming from Cotonou to meet them in Lagos for a day) to accommodate different time/date preferences.

At a point they began asking for recorded DVD versions of my learning events.

Those requesting a LIVE learning event in which I would appear before them would have to get a minimum number of people booked, to make that happen.

Now, if after we’ve done the MO discovery successfully, YOU decide to take this further, and we are able to agree on a SPECIFIC learning solution(s) YOU may benefit from, YOU will have to choose from 3 options:

A. How to Get the Website Traffic You Need at Zero Cost

A Web Marketing client once me sent an SMS asking that I help drive traffic to the Joomla based website I’d built for him (as part of a custom Web Marketing System). I promptly replied, in a detailed email, that what he requested was the EXACT opposite of what he needed to achieve marketing success.

If you wonder why I said that, and what I told him to do instead, below is an abridged version of the email response I sent him.

All you need to do is focus on writing and posting informative and educative articles targeted at your ideal customers/clients for you business, on your blog, for instance…then share the links to those articles on your Social media pages (and other components of your Web Marketing System). And do so on a consistent basis, the way you see me do all the time.

I assure you that if you do it right, the search engines will continually index pages from your site and eventually fall in love with it, to the point that they will serve links to your pages in the search results that potential buyers see when looking for information related to what you offer.

Those people (we call them pre-qualified prospects) will then eagerly click the link to visit your site and read the article, and while there will discover what they can buy from you.

You DO NOT need anyone to send traffic to you.

And you do not need to PAY ANYONE to make visitors come to your site.

Just offer useful content on a regular basis and let the Internet do its magic. This is what I do in my business, and I get sales from buyers in and out of Africa regularly.

Total strangers too.

If you follow what I tell you, and you ensure that you offer authentic solutions that add value to buyers, YOU will also get the same results.

Let me repeat myself once again: You DO NOT need anyone to send traffic to your website!

Don’t get me wrong. If they do, it would be a welcome development. However, paying to have traffic sent to your website, or asking other website owners to drive traffic to your site, will rarely yield useful, talk less lasting benefits.

I know there are people who will disagree with me on this.

However, what I sell is unique and the audience I serve via this website mostly offer similar unique products and services. And my advocated approach works superbly, for me, bring high profile, high paying buyers to me, even while I sleep!

This is why I am convinced that my approach offers my target audience better returns on their potential investment of time, effort and money.

Attract Clients to Buy or Rent Your Property At Zero Cost Using THIS Strategy

If you rent/lease out or sell real estate, this article offers useful insights into why intelligent use of Web Marketing will yield the best returns on your investment of time, effort and especially money, compared to ANY other medium. It is based on suggestions I made to a property marketer whose weekly Web-Address-Less advert I came across in a national daily.

My purpose here is to share my expertise in attracting – for you, at low to zero cost – serious minded people, who have the means to pay, to contact you about whatever it is you offer.

They tell you they will be in touch, but for some reason never get back to you. And sometimes they want to go forward, but the PRICE they offer simply does NOT meet your lowest expectations, so you are forced to say NO.

NB: I barely had time to even remember or think about this delay from his end, because I had to prepare for and deliver my 1 hour talk on Passive Income Generation on that same Sunday – it ended up lasting from 5 to 8p.m as against the 1 hour I planned.
