Why You Now Need to Exercise Caution in Accepting Invitations to Attend “Large-Crowd” Religious Functions in Nigeria [Feature News Report = Bloody Saturday In A/Ibom: 200 Worshippers Dead After Church Collapses, How Governor Escaped Death By A Whisker]

Given the scale of this latest “religious retreat” avoidable disaster (Hint: Remember TB Joshua’s Synagogue?), I believe a need NOW exists in Nigeria, to exercise major caution in accepting invitations to attend large crowd “religious” functions, at newly constructed venues one is not familiar with.

We may need to do this, not because we don’t care, or because we feel superior to others…but because it is becoming increasingly obvious that irresponsible and/or incompetent “experts” continue to win contract rights to execute such big budget construction projects in Nigeria.

There is simply too little regulation happening, and too few checks and balances in place to protect the interests of the majority

For instance, reports available indicate that the builders rushed the completion of this project so it could be used as the event venue. This collapse suggests the quality of materials used and/or work done were below the standards required.

Whether that happened inadvertently or deliberately, we may probably never know.

One thing is however almost certain:

Little or no quality control due diligence verifications were done BEFORE people were admitted into that area.

It’s almost as if these people assume that since they will be worshiping Him in their newly built (or construction-in-progress) edifice, God would send Angels to correct any deficiencies, that they are unwilling to make out time to find and rectify themselves!

As has happened before (remember the Synagogue Church Of All Nations event?) the hundreds of unsuspecting attendees had no inkling of all the hazards.

But even if they had suspected anything or asked questions, they would probably have been told not to fret over such things in a place of wiorship – where Men Of God would be present.

Yet it happened and hundreds of lives have been lost, with many injured!

The irony?
Well, the “Men Of God” reportedly escaped via the vestry, before the collapse!

I thought they would have seen it coming and warned their “trusting” followers?

Will anyone be held accountable for allowing this avoidable disaster to happen?

Are any lessons going to be learnt to avert disasters of this nature in future?

Or do human lives matter so little to us in Nigeria that we – especially regulatory agencies in charge/the government itself – could not care less if they continue to get wasted in this crazy manner?

I certainly hope not – for all our sakes, because tomorrow it could be you, me or any of our own loved ones that ends up injured, or worse, because we took no (or failed to demand for) corrective action.

To Succeed, We Must Help Ourselves – the Government Cannot Help Us

It’s time for us to wake up from our slumber as Nigerians and Africans. I mean that with reference to EACH of us an individual and NOT our collective identity as a people.

I am self-driven, and have always believed no one outside of me (and the Creator) can control what happens in my life. By implication therefore, I never wait around for anyone to do anything for me, and I certainly am never prepared to beg anyone to give me anything either.

Some have called me arrogant because of that. But that’s an incorrect interpretation of my disposition. I simply know myself well enough to be sure I do not need to act subservient or over-humble to anyone, in order to get what I want.

What you need to succeed in life is too get a sound understanding of how things work, and then use that understanding to go after your goals.

My philosophy is that I alone am responsible for moving myself forward.

The actions or in-actions of others are of little or no consequence. For as long as I remain focused and determined, and persistent in pursuit of my goals, with intelligence, and faith, I will be furnished with what I need to get there!

Guess what? THAT is exactly what has happened in my life from as far back as I remember.

Initially, especially during my time in the university and later paid employment, I did it intuitively, without conscious thought. It just came naturally to me. I just knew it worked to be that way,

But when I became an entrepreneur in 2002, and began to dig deeper into principles for success achievement, to deal with severe setbacks I faced, I discovered the Science of Getting Rich (SOGR) philosophy

It took me time to learn how to make it work (and I continue learning even now), but eventually I got the hang of it, and my ability to succeed with more predictability has since grown tremendously.

A good indicator that one has gained mastery in use of this philosophy, is when you are able to get results you want, even when others complain about general downturn in fortunes e.g. during a recession. That’s what Wallace D. Wattles, the late author of that little book promised.

The World’s Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™

eBook (PDF), 49 Pages
The World's Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™
Subtitle: Sustainable Socio Economic Prosperity Worldwide is Achievable Through Creation and Proliferation of Digital Multipreneurs™ in All Societies This book is based on a White Paper first published online by Tayo Solagbade in January 2006. Tayo has since applied the ideas and strategies described in it to achieve the success he enjoys today as a Location Independent Performance Improvement Specialist and Multipreneur (i.e. a highly versatile/multi-skilled entrepreneur), with a bias for delivering Best Practice solutions to Farm Businesses and others – by providing solutions to buyers within and outside Africa. For policy and decision makers in private and public sectors, seeking tested ways to empower multitudes at less cost, and using less effort/money, this book’s contents offer limitless potentials – IF used correctly. Continue to online store. (Click here to request for a copy of this PDF ebook via email download)

The SOGR philosophy is what has helped me realize that EACH of us can become a viable agent of positive change and progress in his/her own area of influence.

I have been succeeding doing just that, in my interactions with member of my target audience on and off the web, within and outside Africa.

It’s been amazing to see the results – and I know if more of us were to adopt a similar strategy, we would transform our societies for the better.

This is what happens in many developed societies. Everyday ordinary people taking control of their lives, instead of calling on the government.

They take action to create the opportunities they want, starting where they are, with what they have. If it means working completely alone for years, like I have done, they do it. Then when success begins to come, others join in.

If you feel you do not have the time, talent, training or resources, to do it, then look for ways to support others who are doing it, so they can be better equipped to succeed. Their success will still rub off on you and the rest of society.

Let’s stop wasting valuable time waiting for government (or indeed “God”) to do things for us that we can – with focus, determination and persistence – do by and for ourselves.

I refuse to live my life complaining about what I lack because some government failed to do what it promised to do.

Instead, I wake up daily with the mental attitude backed by unshakable faith that ALL I need will be brought within my reach at the right time by the Creator, if I take regular/daily action towards it.

We can do the same thing.

Now don’t get me wrong. Applying the SOGR philosophy will come with delays, disappointments, setbacks and attendant lack/suffering. But all of that serves the necessary purpose of purifying you to EVOLVE to the superior state you are advancing into. Nothing good that lasts comes easy!

So, what matters is for those of us who are willing get the ball rolling, while those looking for ideas decide where to come in. Sooner than later we will succeed.

[RECOMMENDED] 9 Things People Don’t Get About Entrepreneurs – By Jeff Haden, Contributing Editor, Inc.com

Entrepreneurs do what they do for reasons most people will never understand – unless they’re also entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship is hard, both physically and emotionally. Doubt, anxiety, despair – along the way, every entrepreneur struggles with those feelings.

So why are entrepreneurs willing to face the vulnerability, the emotional ups and downs, and the risk of public and private failure?

Easy. They have no choice. For entrepreneurs:

1. The voice in their heads is louder than every other voice they hear. Others may doubt. Others may criticize. Others may judge and disparage and disapprove.

THE FARM CEO (Issue 67): A BOPMS™ Will Enable You Run Your Farm Business Profitably Even When You’re Away!, To Succeed, Your Farm Does Not Just Need a Software – It Needs a BOPMS!, Your Business Should Free You, Not Restrict You

Over the past 2 weeks I have made more sales of my Excel-VB Ration Formulator, Feed Formulation Handbook and Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager, to Farm CEOs  – 2 within Nigeria and one outside (specifically Uganda via Western Union).

mojeed-pfm

shisia-ug-pfm

Aside from those who have made purchases I have had some call me to make enquiries. For all of them, I ALWAYS did the same thing – which was to challenge them to adopt a best practice mindset in running their farm operations.

Like I always tell them, I have a vision to help Farm CEOs engage best practice strategies to boost their farm output at less cost, using less effort and fewer resources, so they can retain more profits.

In line with that vision, I send them links to articles I’ve written on this best practice theme, as no-strings-attached gifts, regardless of whether they buy from me or not.

In this no-password issue of the Farm CEO newspaper, I offer previews of, and links to 3 of such articles, for your consideration. I hope you find them useful.

1. PII 020: A BOPMS™ Will Enable You Run Your Farm Business Profitably Even When You’re Away!

There is a saying that if you cannot be away from your business for fear of things not going right, that’s not a business – it’s a job.

Now, it is my considered opinion that if there is any kind of business that the owner needs to be able to get time away from, without fear of things going seriously wrong, it’s the farm business.

Why?

Because starting and running a farm business is a very demanding process, that requires investment of money, time, effort and resources by the owners and members of his/her team.

PII 020: A BOPMS™ Will Enable You Run Your Farm Business Profitably Even When You’re Away!

2. PII 015: To Succeed, Your Farm Does Not Just Need a Software – It Needs a BOPMS!

Below is a message I received from a Farm CEO few days ago, asking for a software solution:

“…I’m currently running a piggery business with no record keeping. At best, very poor and would love you developing a software that can help in terms of reporting, analysing and profitability including growth, effectiveness and efficiency.

I also have several colleagues needing same and it would be my pleasure leading them to you based on your productsdelivering my needs.

Let us explore this further please.”

I’ve been getting requests like these more frequently in the recent past, indicating that more Farm CEOs are keen to adopt best practice management of their farm businesses.

PII 015 [TRUE STORY]: To Succeed, Your Farm Does Not Just Need a Software – It Needs a BOPMS!

3. Your Business Should Free You, Not Restrict You

If you own a business – with employees – that won’t make money/do well unless you’re there, what you have is NOT a business, but a job! This article offers guidance to help you get maximum value from your business – even when you’re not physically present. Indeed if you do it right, you’ll develop a system that actually lets you stay away from your business, and return to find it doing just as well as (if not better than) you left it.

As an extension professional, my aim is to provide farm business owners with useful information and education, to guide them in daily running of their farms. Especially in the routine planning and decision making they have to do. In certain cases, I develop resources to enhance their ability to do what they do better.

Your Business Should Free You, Not Restrict You

The Real Reason Marriages Fail [Hint: Ideas You Can Use to Evaluate Your Relationship]

“If true love really exists between a couple, no change in the financial, physical or other circumstances of either or both parties in the union will EVER make them change the way they FEEL about being together, talk less of their even contemplating separation, or worse – divorce. True love knows no limits – and deep down all couples know it. But not all partners are prepared to practice it – and that’s the real reason marriages fail.” – Tayo K. Solagbade

Most people will not admit this, but the major reason couples split when the woman earns more than the man is that the relationship was – in the first place – NEVER based on UNCONDITIONAL love symbolized in the vows they took at their wedding!

You simply cannot vow before God and men/women that you’ve left your parents to become ONE with your spouse, till death do you part, only to later break up because of money related conflicts!

When 2 people become ONE, what belongs to one should automatically belong to the other – regardless of the gender of the owner!

Only a lack of true love will make the above difficult for any couple to do.

Sadly what happens is that sometimes one person is willing, because s/he really loves the other, but the other partner may not be ready to reciprocate mainly because s/he is not prepared to give that much..

And where both parties start out ready to live that way, in true, unconditional love and harmony, if they fail to tune out busy body friends or relatives (who may say stuff like “Chai see how s/he is using you”) seeds of discord may end up being sown in their minds, leading to breakdown of that ONE mind they share!

If truth be told therefore, not everyone is ready for marriage – and money is often a major factor (I said that much in this article – click to read).

Indeed historical evidence continues to show, quite clearly too, that money, especially in terms of the amount it occurs, can seriously test any marital union.

When it’s not enough, it can pose problems (e.g. couple may bicker over domestic expenses, child care etc).

But when money is abundant, new problems can arise (e.g. higher earning husband starts keeping mistresses, or the wife starts talking down to the lesser earning husband etc).

It is therefore my considered opinion that any couple that has not gone through challenges posed by a lack of money for one or both parties in the relationship, cannot be sure that what they share is real, and unconditional…or that they are both truly ONE!

Since we cannot ask people to go and become poor to test their unions, I offer a few ideas to those who may seek insights below.

In my 2006 article linked below, I discussed the question:

Can lack of money put your marriage asunder?

Click:

Is Your Level Of Self-Confidence Directly Proportional To The Size Of Your Bank Account?

Final Words

To reinforce the ideas I propose in the above linked article, I will end by saying the following:

You will need to do a careful study of yourself and your partner, to establish the basis of your relationship. That will equip you to know what potential damage a lack of money can do to what you both currently share.

Then you will be able to take needed steps to safeguard your union.

For instance, if your honest analysis reveals your spouse will love you less, if you have less money, then you will by all means want to ensure you do not lose your job, fail in business etc :-)

I would however add that you need to realize and accept that the creator’s plans for you may include your having such “painful’ experiences, and the right partner for you will ideally choose to stand with you right till the end.

PII 042: To Use a Web Marketing System (WMS) Successfully, Ignore Nay Sayers, Doubting Thomas’s and Armchair Theorists

Two (or more heads) can often be better than one – as the popular saying goes. However, my experiences over the past 2 or more decades pursuing authentic success achievement from school and into paid, then later self-employment, have taught me that the QUALITY of heads that come together matters greatly.

What I have found is that the degree of practical real world relevant wisdom combined with the right mental attitude that those 2 or more heads bring to the mix, can make or mar the outcome achieved in any area of endeavour.

The above has played out more times in my life than I can count.

This has especially been the case since I became an entrepreneur. I found out that MOST of those I knew, and that I assumed knew me, had absolutely no clue how my mind worked, in relation to experiences I had.

Indeed, I have found that the larger majority in society, when it comes to evaluating entrepreneurial ventures and opportunities, tend NOT to have much to offer an achievement oriented and passion driven person like me.

As a result, I often had to dump most of the ideas they offered me (or to put it more accurately) tried to force down my throat.

Not until I achieved a noteworthy breakthrough did they relent, and even then, they rarely acknowledged that they had been wrong. Instead they typically dismissed the success I recorded as being due to luck or some other factor. Indeed, many would still boldly advise others against following my example, saying I “everyone cannot be like you Tayo – you are too stubborn etc”.

One area in which this has happened most often to me has been with regard to my use of Web Marketing to find buyers for my unconventional range of products and services.

In case you’re reading my writing for the first time, I sell custom Excel-VB driven software and Web Marketing Systems (WMS) Development (as well as Information Products) to Farm CEOs and others.

Today, I have buyers finding me by themselves online via various channels and coming over to make enquiries, with some ending up sending payment to me, from within and outside Africa.

I do NOT meet them in person, neither do I offer them any special guarantees. All they have to go on is the stuff I put up about myself online.

But when I wanted to adopt this strategy of providing my solutions 100% online, about 4 to 5 years ago, I recall trying to sound out close relatives and friends as well as some old clients.

I wanted to do what the books I’d read, advised. I sought the input of others who either had more years of experience in life and/or business than I did. And I also wanted the opinion of persons who were in my field or some area close.

My belief in the power of 2 or more heads coming together drove me to try, repeatedly to do the above.

Unfortunately, I discovered certain hard, harsh and painful truths:

People will often give you advice based on their fears, sentiments, and biases and very rarely based on their objective opinion.

Note here that those fears may be that your success in pursuing your intended line of action would make YOU leave them BEHIND…so even though they see that it would be a good move, they could subtly discourage you from doing that way.

It happened to me, enough times to make me resolve to subsequently keep my own counsel. Today, I rarely feel a need to go out looking for other heads to add to mine in making a decision.

At least not physically – and rarely in my immediate environment.

Instead I have trained myself to develop mental stamina needed to engage in deep thinking needed to gain insights that help me arrive at what often works for me.

Another thing I’ve done, especially when I have felt inadequate despite my deepest meditation, has been to reach out to accomplished experts in places far from mine, who have shared their experience based ideas in relation to my intended purpose.

Quite often what they proposed could not be transplanted wholesale for use in my own market. Most were based in developed societies like the USA and Canada you see.

So, I had to learn to adapt what I picked up from them, in a creative combination with the ideas I had, to arrive at something that worked for me, in my target market.

One of the most annoying things I encountered with others was their nay saying even when they lacked enough experience or knowledge of the activity to offer competent advice.

Quite often I noticed they felt that the fact that I was new to an activity or yet to record notable success in it, or that I had been failing at it for a while, meant that they knew better than I did.

These people simply failed to understand that failure was a necessary ingredient for working one’s way to success in any endeavour. Very rarely will you be able to conceive a plan of action that will instantly deliver the heights of success you desire.

You will have to start somewhere, often without 100% certainty of success, and they refine your approach with every failure, delay, and setback, until you know enough to make more of the right things happen.

I’ve learnt my lessons well, and they guide me to ignore nay Sayers, doubting Thomas’s and most importantly arm chair theorists anytime I’m trying something new.

And I always try to share what I’ve seen in this regard with clients who hire me.

Especially when they hire me to help them develop and implement a Web Marketing System that will deliver similar client recruitment results to mine.

I make a point of warning them upfront that VERY little of what I will be doing for them is conventional – and that an even smaller portion of it is familiar to others who may consider themselves experts in conventional Web Marketing.

My conviction in saying the above comes from years of failing while following the advice of so called gurus online. I found from testing a lot of what they said, that many did not practice what they preached. Most depended on hype and even arranged success.

So, I chose to look inward and start testing what I was doing by myself, to see what worked for me, and why it did. From that process came what I now market to clients as my Web Marketing Systems Development Service.

I derived my inspiration to continue along the unique path I’d found, from studying experts (like Terry Dean and Michel Fortin), who never claimed to be gurus, but recorded powerful results without resorting to hype or misrepresentation.

My experience indicates that if one is to succeed in using my WMS, s/he will have to be willing to ignore the well meaning nay Sayers, doubting Thomas’s and armchair theorists – who will inevitably offer counsel of some sort.

This is not to say all they offer will be useless.

However, I have learnt the hard way that a lot of it will be of little value, but at the same time it will often be served in a manner that either discourages/demoralizes you, or worse, confuses you.

Those are not states of mind that you need, if you want to succeed in using something that is unconventional or unprecedented. You need to be able to dig deep within yourself and find the conviction to go through with it.

And that’s the kind of mental attitude that has helped me succeed in ways that amaze so many people – experts and clients alike – in using my customizable WMS to attract high profile buyers to myself at zero cost.

This is why I never stop reminding my clients to focus on DOING what I tell them, guided by their creative instincts, in using the WMS I develop for them, until it works for them.

To achieve long term authentic and sustainable success, you must develop deep seated conviction in your adopted strategy’s workability – otherwise you will end up getting pushed around in your thinking, by the divergent views bound to be expressed by others.

We Need Schooling Systems That Transform Learners Into Real World PROBLEM SOLVERS!

I’ve written severally on this theme in the past, and the current predicament of the millions of products from our so called “schools” (as seen in the news report linked below) further underscores the urgent need for people to WAKE UP and stop seeing “schooling” as an end in itself.

The truth is that if it is to work, schooling MUST always be dynamically provided as a MEANS to the ultimate end EACH learner that undergoes it, NEEDS to achieve authentic success and self-actualization.

Below is an excerpt (quoting alarming statistics) from an article titled “Millions of Nigerians are falling for a 27-year old Russian Ponzi scheme”?:

“A recent recruitment drive by a government agency helps put Nigeria’s unemployment problem in context. Advertising for only 500 positions, Nigeria’s federal tax agency received 700,000 applications—2,000 of which were by graduates with first class honors degrees. Similarly, in February, the Nigerian Police Force received almost a million applications for 10,000 listed positions.” – Click here to read the full piece.

The scenario painted in the above report says it all. Something is wrong with the schooling being provided.

Otherwise, why would products from our schools be acting so desperate???

In case you still don’t get my point, I’ve added links – at the bottom of this page – to some of my past articles in which I explain in more detail what I mean.

For now however, I pose the following questions as potential food for thought…to be considered by those willing to keep an open mind on this issue:

  1. If our current schooling system is so useful, how come the supposedly best products from our institutions (e.g. those “with first class honors degrees”) seem to be at a loss for ideas of how to find their place in society?

Hint: If that was not the case, how come such high numbers of our schooled people keep falling over themselves to fight over such a disproportionately SMALL number of employment opportunities – as shown in the above mentioned news report?

  1. Why do the wonderful products of our schools seem so averse to trying to pursue self-employment opportunities as compared to seeking paid employment? Shouldn’t what we teach them in our schools prepare them to pursue any or both avenues to success?

I could go on, but I think you get my drift here.

We need our schooling systems to turn out learners empowered to function in society in or out of paid employment primarily as PROBLEM SOLVERS.

In other words, our schools need to equip them with real world relevant, practical knowledge and skills, in addition to helping them develop the right mental attitude to pursue success with persistence, when they enter the real world.

The students must arrive society with the understanding that their natural talents, abilities and geniuses are the foundation on which they are to learn in school.

So, our schooling systems should support each child to pick and choose subjects to learn based on what s/he needs to know and be able to do i.e to make the most of his/her God-given abilities to succeed in or out of paid employment.

Right now, our schools do VERY little of that.

Instead too much abstract and theoretical stuff (often too far removed from the reality that the learners are to meet outside the school walls) is what dominates the MENU served to students in our schooling systems.

This is why we continue to see clueless graduates scrambling to be underemployed in poor paying jobs, when countless self-employment opportunities, based on viable vocations abound that they can tap into.

What is the point of spending YEARS in a higher institution if you emerge without the competence to take firm control of your income earning circumstances – when paid employment is scarce?

Our kids are told to go to school because they need “schooling” to prepare them to succeed in life: BUT the real world teaches them otherwise!

But then they graduate and find themselves stranded, and often – especially today – worse off than those who lack their level of education, who settled YEARS earlier on developing hands-on proficiency in vocations relevant to society’s needs.

Even those who have jobs in hand are under pressure, because what they earn is not enough.

And that’s what we’re seeing in the MMM schemes, scramble for low paying jobs, corrupt enrichment by highly schooled job holders who should know better etc.

Many are getting paid much less than their qualifications would have commanded 2 decades ago. As a result, they now readily lean towards opportunities like the MMM scheme to try and grow the money they earn.

Most of them are not bad or dishonest. They just want to make more money to meet their needs, but they lack the know-how/money making competence to do it. That’s why such zero effort schemes appeal to them. They lack the financial education about how to print their own money.

Hint: I do NOT refer to “financial education” as taught in business schools. Instead it is the kind of education preached for years by Robert Kiyosaki about the difference between an asset and a liability. The former being anything that puts money in your pockets and the latter, that which takes money out of your pockets.

I recommend you give your child the kind of schooling that will help him/her emerge with a sound understanding of all I have said above.

Otherwise, s/he will be unable to separate him/herself from the crowd of clueless and confused graduates often living what someone described as “lives of quiet desperation”.

PII 041: Avoid Intellectual Laziness, Learn How Things Work…to Achieve Success [Hint: A Culture of Making Your Own Things is Key to Individual/National Development – See Photos of Home Made Ankara Slippers and Shoes Inside]

All over the world people who excel in life ahead of their peers in any area of endeavour, most times succeed because they devote unrelenting time, energy and effort to MASTERING one or more vocations.

Without mastery, you are unlikely to be anything more than average or mediocre.

Yet, mastery itself cannot be achieved unless one develops sound understanding of how to do whatever it is one wishes to excel at.

Societies in which the leaders and people agree on the above are often those that end up developing ahead of others.

Over the past 3 decades of my life, I have remained deeply intrigued by the subject of success and how it is achieved across various groups of people, societies and cultures.

We have witnessed many countries start out on the same or even lower rankings with others in terms of being underdeveloped, and rise to become leading nations.

The so called Asian Tigers are a good example.

In contrast to the above nations, some countries in certain geographical regions, like Africa, especially Black Africa, seem to be jinxed where achieving sustainable development is concerned.

I use that word (jinx) for lack of a better adjective.

For some strange reason, many (but of course NOT all) Black African peoples seem lacking in the ability to look inwards and gain the required understanding of how things work (to paraphrase a preacher in a video I watched – see below).

It goes without saying that they excel in certain fields, like sports and entertainment – but even in those areas, they often do NOT do it without technical “input” from non-Africans.

However this seems to be more relevant with regard to them within their own societies, as a GROUP.

By this I mean that many individual Black Africans have proven themselves to be exceptionally capable of not only achieving sound understanding of how things work, but also applying that understanding to achieving groundbreaking success in various fields.

Most times however one notices they tend to self-actualize when they leave their own societies and go to more stable and well organized environments in developed societies.

Returning home to their countries of origin to reproduce and replicate the same results generally tends not to come easily for them.

Like a friend recently noted, over half a century after independence, Nigeria with all its wealth and size, in human and financial terms, continues to import experts to build roads, and other infrastructure for her people. Yet she graduates engineers annually from universities it runs!

Now, I have done a lot of thinking and reading about this and come to the conclusion that the main problem stopping the clued up Black Africans from impacting their larger societies with their genius is the MENTALITY of the popular majority.

Too many Black Africans are intellectually lazy. Note that I said “too many” and NOT all. By the way, I’m black but I don’t know if I qualify to be called an “intellectual”.  I will say that my observations and insights have driven me to work hard on myself, to avoid intellectual laziness and LEARN how things work, so I can make my own stuff.

The results I’ve gotten over the past 2 decades attest to my success. For instance, I built custom spreadsheet software while in paid employment, that were formally adopted for use in my workplace, and since leaving paid employment I have established my brand providing custom Excel-VB apps for buyers in/out of Africa. I believe we need more of my kind of people to be this way, if we are to achieve our full God-given potentials as a race.

Read: Food for Thought for Nigeria @56: “You Lazy African Intellectuals – by Field Ruwe” [Hint: How Lazy “Nigerian” Intellectuals Underdevelop “Nigeria”?]

The effort required to achieve the understanding of how things work therefore tends to be something they are not prepared to exert for any reasonable length of time.

For instance CREATIVE THINKING which is the foundation required for building a virile industry of micro to small scale production done by home based businesses, is NOT embraced.

The average Black African is averse to thinking of LEARNING how to make his own clothes, shoes, software, food etc. Instead, most of them grow up learning to live high consumption lifestyles in which virtually everything they spend money on is imported or made by foreigners operating local production operations.

The indigenes prefer working as employees to engaging in creative production based pursuits that reduce demand form and dependence on imported products.

All of the above stems from a lack of self-confidence.

They generally believe they do not know enough to make anything on their own, that will be as good as what they already see is available.

So they settle down to a life of using without thinking.

The business of agriculture alone, for a country like Nigeria for example, offers massive potential benefits from the production to the processing as well as the marketing perspectives.

However, if Nigeria as a nation and Nigerians as a people fail to CHANGE their mentality from giving leadership in the THINKING about how they will DO agribusiness to outsiders and foreigners, lasting development and self-sufficiency in Agro based development (which is so badly needed now) is unlikely to happen.

Nigerians/Black Africans need to take ownership of their development efforts. They must do what the Indians, Singaporeans, Chinese, Indonesians and other Asians did to leave them behind.

They must look inwards and TEACH themselves to develop an understanding of how things work. And then they must put that understanding to use in implementing their development plans.

This process, if it is to succeed must begin from every home, with parents and children alike embracing this proposed philosophy as a way of life.

If the leadership of the country or group will not do it. Individuals can adopt it for use in their private lives.

China is a good example: Countless micro to small home based businesses churn out all sorts of products daily. Quite a good number are family based.

The same trend obtains even in Europe and America. Some people start small and choose to stay that way – producing essential goods to high standards, which are shipped far beyond their borders, in addition to being used on the home front.

If Black African nations evolve a similar culture, their rapid rise to join the ranks of developed nations will be inevitable.

[Photos] I practice what I preach – along with my kids. Apart from our trademark no-oven charcoal stove baked products range, I encourage them to LEARN how to make things (like battery powered toy bikes – and more recently shoes/pam slippers of all kinds)

Kids that grow up in an atmosphere where they are constantly challenged to learn how to make their own versions of things they usually buy, will develop the self-confidence and mental attitude to take ownership of their consumption.

That will make them reduces dependence on buying stuff, in favour of making theirs. And they will influence/inspire others in their social circles to emulate them.
