[DVAM] Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence. by Edward Rhymes]

I continue my STOP Domestic Violence Against Men (DVAM) Campaign by featuring this powerfully eye opening report about a serious aspect of the Domestic Violence epidemic that most of society is missing – but thankfully, MORE and MORE experts are beginning to identify and call attention to i.e. that women have been found, many times to BE the abuser in cases of DV, and we need to address SUCH situations!

Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence.  by Edward Rhymes]

Let’s put this into perspective: a significant amount of the findings regarding male-as-victim intimate partner violence came about as the result of studies and surveys that were aimed at understanding domestic violence against women. These are not studies conducted by rabid anti-women men’s groups or right-wing think tanks. They were conducted by organizations like the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, the American Sociological Association, Psychology of Women Quarterly and the American Journal of Public Health, to name a few.

Last Friday (23rd March 2018), like I hinted I would, in the blog I posted about the invitation I got to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, I submitted a follow up letter on the theme of my 62 page paper (Schooling is a means to an End and NOT an End in Itself) to the Deputy Governor.

In that letter, I put forward my thinking about how the Ministry of Education (MOE)and Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD) can collaborate to better equip learning institutions to deliver EDUCATION that empowers learners to enter society with reliable competence to fend for themselves.

Like I did in writing to the MYSD, I included a full printed copy of my 62 page paper as a reference.

Having said/done the above, the truth is that I really do not care if I hear back from them or not, at this point.

What matters to me is that I have gone beyond grumbling about how things are not right with our schooling system, to OFFERING my own ideas for consideration, even as I put them to use for my kids.

It’s worthwhile to note also that more and more people continue to reach out to me, requesting their FREE copies of the PDF version. So, for me, progress is happening. It’s up to the policy makers to do what they will with what I’ve sent them.

“To be well adjusted to a sick society is no sign of good health” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

The annoyances in Nigeria (like the broken & corrupted schooling system) never stop bothering me.

I find it hard to accept them as normal and inevitable. Some people have told me it’s best to get used to them since they are not likely to change.

I think THAT is not a healthy way to live life. But that’s me. I believe I CAN change my reality. And that’s why the annoyances of Nigeria’s schooling systems drive me to find a solution I can share.

The ideas I advocate for adoption in this report are borne out of YEARS of painful struggling and suffering trying to find my true purpose in life, since I left the university, and especially since I quit my high paying job in a large multinational manufacturer, to pursue my long standing dream of running my own business.

I was NOT happy doing my salaried job, despite the good pay. I longed to do something that allowed me the freedom to explore my creativity, and maximize the potential I knew I had.

The need to do this became more apparent to me, and more urgent, when, one day, in my office as Technical Training and Development Manager, an old, retired ex-employee of the company, who we as young graduate trainees had heard retired after over 2 decades of service, BEFORE we joined, came asking, PLEADING actually, that I award him a training contract.

Among other things, in response to my explanation that my
expatriate boos and I were committed to only engaging accredited trainers, and only in response to REAL training needs among our staff, he pointed out the fact that he had done my job during his time in the company. I was aware of this and told him so. But I made it clear I could not help him.

After he left, I told myself I did NOT want to leave the company at retirement age, of say 65, when I would have lost my youth and most of my energy and drive, to do the needed hustling required to deal with life postpaid employment.

I wondered how it was possible that he’d ended up the way he was despite what I’d heard about the millions he’d been given in his retirement cheque.

Later, discussing with others, I learnt how bad spending habits cultivated from time in paid employment, are often difficult to curb post-retirement, leading many who leave the company to run out of money quickly. Then those who try to venture into business of some sort, having no prior experience, most times, often get swindled (sometimes by close relatives) and/or just do the business wrong and end up failing.

All of this told me that despite the schooling we had all received, our jobs paid employment insulated us from the harsh realities of life in self-employment or business.

But that would only last until we had to retire, or worse, when we got sacked (which has happened to a lot of people when they least expect it).

The thoughts I nursed made me spend 2 solid years trying
to gain experience by starting a business of some sort. I was restless. At a point it became apparent that I could not combine working my day job with the plans I had.

[Read Should You Quit Your Job or Start Your Business Part-time?]

When I’d been a shift brewer it had been easy to do other things – including travel to attend entrepreneurship workshops. So,
I put my 2 year old exit plan into effect, and quit my job in
December 2001.

When I started out in business, I planned to get hired as a trainer/speaker, and I expect my credentials and long list of achievements in paid employment would speak for me.

But I soon learned things were not so straightforward! Things started out VERY bad, as I was unable to earn any tangible income for the first year – save for a pitiful N10k honorarium from the Centre for Management Development.

Yet, I had countless meetings, wrote numerous letters, to organizations everywhere. My efforts to get hired as a trainer/speaker had for the most part met with very little financial success.

People seemed unwilling to invite or engage me, despite my testimonials from presenting my original management paper on Self-Development at the Shangisha Centre for Management Development, on the invitation of the Director General , Dr. Mayaki.

It took me time to understand (actually someone in the business for a long time had to tell me) why I was not getting called in despite what they said was my impressive resume from Guinness, and the original menu of solutions I offered.

Nothing worked.

It began to dawn on me that all my years of university study and time spent in paid employment had not prepared me to do business in my country –at all (just like I had been warned, in a 1 hour closed door session by one of my expatriate bosses, after I told him I quit!)

It took me over 5 years to get a sense of direction. I had to learn how to find the right people to market to, and what to offer to do for them. All the things I thought mattered from my experiences in paid employment were put aside.

I then did deep thinking about how to take what I knew how to do (my skills) and use them to SHOW potential clients how I could solve their problems.

This led me to begin creating demo Excel-Visual Basic software applications to which I used in presentations to decision makers of micro to medium companies I approached (the big names never let me through the gates most times, so I let them be).

Eventually, as I improved my methods, sales began to happen on a more regular basis.

For instance, in March 2007, I built an Excel-Visual Basic driven Automatic Pay slip Generator Spreadsheet software application for a large hospital in Ikeja, Lagos. They continue to use it, even today (in 2018) over a decade later, to generate salary schedules, personal income tax and printed pays lips for over 120 employees.

See one of the video demonstrations for an advanced version of that app at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG5Rtkgrthk

Another application I built for them was an Excel-VB driven
Automated Cash Book/Bank Reconciliation Software (See
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKOHXh4LKqE) .

About a month after I built the second application for that hospital, I succeeded in using demonstrations of both, to get another large hospital, also with over 100 staff to hire me to build an Excel-VB General Accounts Manager software that made use of formats/data from over 2 years of individual Excel workbooks they had store as weekly reports.

The second hospital purchased the Pay slip Generator and a year later (2008) hired me to build a Cash Office Payments Manager application.

The success I recorded with these companies was coming after years of struggling as a startup entrepreneur, to find clients willing to pay me to develop Excel-VB software for then.

So things began to look up for me when I decided to fall back on my spreadsheet programming skills, which I began offering to micro, small and medium sized bus9inesses – like those mentioned above. Today, I have clients in and out of Africa, who use my custom Excel-VB software (see www.excelheaven.biz).

And I also have experts in various fields who are paid members of my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation club, learning how to use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to automate their use of Microsoft Excel, from me.

Indeed, this past month (February 2018) the newest member of my club joined from Nairobi in Kenya.

He watched the video of my automated cashbook and then emailed to ask how he could learn. About 2 weeks later he had sent agreed advance payment to sign up for my 1 year One-On-One coaching in MS Excel-VB programming (see http://tayosolagbade.com/xlvb1on1.html )
[TIP: That year when I had my major breakthroughs (i.e. 2008) after reflecting on my experiences, I wrote the article titled “Is Your Child Learning for School or for Life” :
https://ezinearticles.com/?Is-Your-Child-Learning-For-
School-Or-For-Life?&id=1240561 ]

What I had gone through and the manner in which I’d emerged made me realize the formal schooling I’d gotten had NOT prepared me well enough for the real world. The desire to share my experiences for others to learn from drove me to write that article, as well as others published in the Best Practice Parenting category of my blog at http://tayosolagbade.com/sdnuggets/category/parenting/

That passion made me write THIS report you now read.

In 2006, I published a Whitepaper titled The World’s Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs.

It got so widely syndicated online that in 2015 I published it as an ebook (see http://www.lulu.com/shop/tayosolagbade/
the-worlds-future-prosperity-depends-ondigital-
multipreneurs/ebook/product-21951176.html).

The World's Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™

Subtitle: Sustainable Socio Economic Prosperity Worldwide is Achievable Through Creation and Proliferation of Digital Multipreneurs™ in All Societies This book is based on a White Paper first published online by Tayo Solagbade in January 2006. Tayo has since applied the ideas and strategies described in it to achieve the success he enjoys today as a Location Independent Performance Improvement Specialist and Multipreneur (i.e. a highly versatile/multi-skilled entrepreneur), with a bias for delivering Best Practice solutions to Farm Businesses and others – by providing solutions to buyers within and outside Africa. More…

Today, I live the life of a Digital Multipreneur, proving that my ideas from that book actually work.

The above background is provided here not to brag or make myself look good, but to show how I have moved from being confused and unable to make reliable progress to being sure of what to do, how, where and for whom.

All of this has happened without my needing to go back to school to get more qualifications. Indeed, when I was confused, I still had all my qualifications and paid employment experiences. But they were not enough. I had to sit down, over time, to do serious critical thinking to find the right formula.

Today, I argue that developing a critical thinking habit, coupled with a passion for self-education is MORE important for achieving success in ANY field, than whatever qualifications a person may possess.

This is why I recommend, in this report, that a vocational skills based approach be made the foundation of formal schooling that we give our kids. It will make them enter into society as well rounded competent income earning adults.

No matter what life throws at them (jobs or no jobs), they will be able to fend for themselves.

A well-schooled person may NOT necessarily be well educated.

This is apparent from the glaring fact in many societies that MANY finish the highest levels of schooling and still enter society clueless about how to make a successful existence – especially financially.

In other words, they leave school knowing little or nothing about money and how to get it, outside paid employment.

My experience based understanding is that an educated person is one who knows WHAT to do to get whatever s/he wants AND who when unsure what to do, knows WHERE to go (or HOW) to find answers s/he needs to achieve his/her goals!

This is why I argue that every parent needs to TAKE OWNERSHIP of his/her child’s schooling, to ensure the child gets COMPLETE, BALANCED education that is real world relevant, boosting his/her chances of success in life as an adult.”

Today, I can confidently call myself EDUCATED due to the process I’ve followed via trial and error, plus lots of self-study and deep thinking, as reflected in my story told above.

To add perspective to what I have said above, I will give examples of educated persons as:

[RECOMMENDED] Finland Will Become The First Country In The World To Get Rid of All School Subjects

In my 62 page paper titled “Schooling is a Means to an End and NOT an End in Itself “, I featured a preview and URL to a BBC.com news report – with the title shown below:

[RECOMMENDED] BBC NEWS: Could subjects soon be a thing of the past in Finland?

I began my feature by noting as follows:

I believe the rest of the world, if they are smart,
should pay CLOSE and SERIOUS attention to what
Finland is doing with its Education System. My instincts with regard to the homeschooling I’ve been doing with my kids have been along this line – and that’s why this news from Finland resonates so much with me. They are just starting out, so teething problems are likely inevitable. BUT I strongly believe THAT is the way to go in the 21st century for best results!

Below is a preview: Click here to learn how you can get your FREE copy of my 62 page PDF report.

Well, the report I feature below, in THIS post removes any doubt readers of that BBC report may have had about Finland’s intentions.

In other words, it is no longer speculation – it is instead FACT. Finland Will Become The First Country In The World To Get Rid of All School Subjects

The huge changes will involve the removal of school subjects from the curriculum.

A revolution is coming for schools in Finland in the form of a destruction of all formal school subjects.

The head of the Department of Education in Helsinki, Marjo Kyllonen, has announced that he believes that the way children are taught now is based of a style that was a benefit to students in the beginnings of the 1900s, but now is no longer relevant and beneficial to our modernised way of learning. He strongly believes that our needs have changed and so we need to adapt our teachings to match with our new way of thinking and developing.

The huge changes will involve the removal of school subjects from the curriculum, as proposed by Finnish officials, which will be replaced by the study of individual events and phenomena.

Two Videos Every Parent Should Watch With Her Child to Ensure S/he Gets The Right Education

Below I feature two 2 of several videos I featured in my report (Schooling is a Means to an End and Not an End In Itself) with regard to  the massive difference between SCHOOLING and Education.

I strongly recommend you watch them with your child – THEN discuss the insights you gain from doing so!

Video 1: Why I Hate School But Love Education (> 8 m views)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_ZmM7zPLyI

Video 2: I Will Not Let Exam Results Decide My Fate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-eVF_G_p-Y

Both videos were authored by the same young man – and BOTH the nail on the head as to the massively misleading nature of the well known statement “EDUCATION IS THE KEY” as it relates to attending schools in most societies worldwide.

Little wonder that they both went viral VERY quickly…

Watch both videos and discover how WISE and RIGHT this young man, is about the SERIOUS DEFECTS in our schooling system!

NB: Suli Breaks is his stage name and he is an English spoken word poet. Real name = Darryll Suliaman Amoako See more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suli_Breaks
In my paper, I noted that Sir Ken Robinson’s famous TEDx talk titled “How Schools Kill Creativity” has so far amassed over 49 million views and is widely regarded as having sparked a worldwide RETHINK of education –

” influencing a major change in the way schooling is done in many parts of the world. Sadly, Nigeria – as usual – has so far failed to pay attention to what the rest of the world has been doing in this regard.”

[WORKSHOP] How to Make Drinks You Can Sell Using Peels of Pineapples – Lagos based NGO invites Tayo Solagbade to Train 30 Members

During the past week, I had a meeting with the founder/CEO of a Lagos based NGO engaged in vocational skills training across learning institutions (up to tertiary level) in Nigeria.

He had learnt of my one day workshop on drinks making using Pineapple Peels, from a partner of www.discovercotonou.com (my new travel produict/service website brand) and got interested.

Based on our discussions, they will be arranging for over 30 persons to attend the practical event on 12th of April 2018 at a venue in Lagos.

I intend to have my 2 daughters (aged 12 and 8 years old) be the main facilitators as they have been doing it for YEARS, while I provide support as they progress. The purpose being to challenge the adult learners to BELIEVE they can do it, when they see my girls doing it.

Apart from inviting me to faciliate the event, there is an option for public spirited individuals//organisations to SPONSOR the event, for groups of people I (and/or my partners) may bring together.

I mention this development to give you an idea of the kind of reality I experience as multipreneur. Every now and then various demands may be placed on my time and I will have to respond based on expedience. I would like you to keep this in mind if/when you reach out to me next month.

Enjoy your weekend – and all the best with preparations for your Dad’s burial :-)

With kindest regards,

In the audio podcast, I narrate how it all began i.e. How I was challenged by an old lady selling Pineapples on the campus, to prove my claim that the peels she had to (sometimes pay kids 100 FCFA to) throw away daily AFTER sales, could be used to make money.

I also share the exciting details of how my drinks and cakes got me commendations and new friendships with the Administrator of the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce (who spoke ZERO English) as well as top officers at the Nigerian embassy (one later hired me to build a website for his farm providing driver/car from Cotonou, to the farm location in South West Nigeria and back.

He also bought my Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager), PLUS a Professor/Department Head in Benin Republic’s National Language Centre – CEBELAE – who saw my products at the embassy, and waited to drive me about 1 hour to his home in Kasato (past Calavi!), where I was treated to a sumptuous meal!

If nothing else, you’ll learn from the audio how to use intelligence and infectious enthusiasm, to push your ideas successfully through to busy persons who are often hard to pin down!

Bayo Adeyinka Shares his Frustration from Interviewing 50 “Graduates” of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions |Femi Ogedengbe – Nollywood Actor Turned Security Guard in USA Identifies Types Of Nigerian Leaders & Followers Responsible for Her Retrogression

This post’s message is in line with the theme of my last few posts of the failure of the formal schooling system – especially in Nigeria – to prepare learners to arrive society with real world relevant competence that ensures they can fend for themselves.

The most recent being yesterday’s post about the meeting I was invited to have at the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, about my paper titled “Schooling is a Means to an End and NOT an End in Itself”(click to read).

This post features – below – 2 third party online resources that reflect the hard truths I discussed in my paper – and that’s why I find it compeling to feature them here:

1. A video of Femi Ogedengbe, the Nollywood actor turned security guard in the United States: This guy totally gets IT!!!

Watch this wonderful video below, and UNDERSTAND why he is able to say he’s achieved MORE as a security guard in the USA than he did while an actor in Nigeria.
Watch the full video below – or go directly to Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8XNruvfjjU

2. A Facebook post by the popular Bayo Adeyinka, sharing his frustration from interviewing 50 “graduates” of Nigerian tertiary institutions

In his post, Bayo says he emerged from the interview session with insights that forced him to conclude ” that we have a BIG problem.” with education” in Nigerua.

TRUE STORY: An Invitation from The Ministry of Youth and Social Development to Discuss My Paper Titled “Schooling Is a Means to an End and NOT an End In Itself”

Two 2 days ago (on Wednesday 14th March 2018) I got a call from the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

The lady asked “Is this Mr. Tayo Solagbade?”.

I replied that it was.

She then went on to say they had received and read a cover letter and the 62 page version of my Work-In-Progress version of my Best Practice Parenting Report titled “Schooling Is a Means to an End and NOT an End In Itself”, which I’d submitted in printed form to the offices of the Honorable Commissioner as well as that of the Permanent Secretary.

She asked “When can we meet with you?”

I replied “Anytime at all you prefer will be acceptable to me.”

With that we agreed that I would come in to her office at 2.30p.m the next day (yesterday) and she hung up.

Below: Photo of my copies of the 2 letters beside a printed version of the 62 page report

letter-paper-ministry-shot

I got to her office about 15 minutes ahead of time yesterday p.m

And I recall having to get past a gatekeeper who initially told me she was out, until I mentioned my name and insisted I was given an appointment by her for 2.30p.m. Then he went “inside” and I overheard her exclaim “Aaaah….”. Next thing I knew, he came back smiling and motioned for me to take a seat.

About 10 minutes later, she came out of her office and we greeted briefly as she went out. Not long after, another lady popped her head into the office and asked if I was the person waiting to see the “Director”. I looked at the gatekeeper for guidance, and saw that he was nodding that I was.

I got up and walked towards her. She said “So you’re the one who wrote that paper – with a look of surprise in her eyes”. I replied that I had written a paper that I’d sent in to the ministry, but wondered why I was to see the director and not the lady in whose office we were.

That was when she explained that THAT lady had other assignments to attend and would be represented by her at a meeting that had been arranged for me to have with the Director.

When they Director’s name was mentioned, I smiled inwardly, because she was someone I’d met before and had extensive discussions with on the theme of the paper I’d now published.

For me, it was therefore fitting that I was to meet with her again. The first time we’d met in 2015. Back then I’d explained what led to my decision to start homeschooling my kids, via a Vocational Skills Acquisition based strategy, as I searched for an academic institution that would enable them continue doing so, along with their academic studies.

[NB: Full details are provided in my 62 page report, which anyone can request by sending me a message via my Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/tayo.solagbade]

The meeting soon got started and she explained that the “PS” (Permanent Secretary)  had sent her my paper, with the cover letter with notes that she was to invite me for a meeting to discuss the ideas I’d described in my paper.

To start off, she acknowledged the points I’d made in my report about the inadequacy of the current schooling system, and noted that what I had done, by CHECKING what the schools were DOING and taking action to develop an alternative that worked was the way to go.

The following were some of the questions I was asked (as her PA and the Deputy Director on either side of me) took notes while I spoke.

  1. Do you want to government to collaborate with you on this project?
  1. Are you proposing a change in the educational curriculum used by schools in the state? If YES, you will need to contact the Ministry of Education, as we at Youth and Social Development cannot take decisions binding on them(She added that work was already ongoing to review it, but that more could be done as per the issues I’d raised in my report)
  1. We have a parenting support network and we’re thinking of adopting your report’s ideas for use in that area. Can we invite you to give an experience-sharing talk to parents we work with?

Among other things, she noted that I could take what I was doing to the next level, by doing a summary or abstract to the Deputy Governor for higher level support.

The truth is that most of the questions they asked and the comments they made were consistent with my purpose for writing my paper in the first place. I wanted to ROCK THE BOAT of the Nigerian Educational System as currently run.

Not for any selfish attention getting motive, but for the sake of MANY parents who I believe may not realize how bad the system is for the kids they gladly push through it. The reaction I’ve seen so far confirms that a desire exists on the part of the policy makers, to do better.

I believe a good number of parents also want something better, for their kids. And if that is so, then the teachers are bound to fall in line and give the other 2 groups what they want: REAL WORLD RELEVANT EDUCATION that works for learners to survive and flourish in life AFTER school!

And that’s why I’ve been GLADLY sending this report to ANY persons who have requested it. Get your copy by sending me a message via my Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/tayo.solagbade]

Note that what I sent to the ministry, and which I offer NOW, to anyone is the 62 page pre-publication edition, so I am still working in more content, and refining it towards final publishing.

However, even as it is now, which is what I sent to the ministry, it offers massively useful volume of information and education for parents, teachers and policy makers willing to study its contents diligently.

Here’s an excerpt from the report:

“My parents told me they worked while in school, to pay their way especially through tertiary education. This cannot be bad, because it forces the learner to develop income earning competence in readiness for his/her entry into the real world. Sometimes that competence could evolve into a successful vocation.

Some big names we know today, like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Richard Branson – all started engaging actively in business while still students in school – some even from their high school days.

The child that is guided to do this can only end up better off in the long run. I think it’s a shame that we are being told to spoon feed kids right into the completion of their formal schooling.

My experiences and observations/studies clearly show that it is the wrong thing to do. And that is another reason why I have supported my 8 and 11 year old daughters to venture into various income earning vocations like make-up and gele tying, hair styling, baking of a variety of confectioneries in addition to drinks making, PLUS snail rearing on a micro scale.” – Tayo K. Hurry Merchants With Get-Rich-Quick Mentalities Cannot Use a Web Marketing System (WMS) Successfully

In this article, I explain why people looking for quick-results-with-minimal-effort in their business marketing are unlikely to find my Web Marketing System (WMS) suited to their needs.

I am unapologetic in telling anyone who asks me what s/he stands to gain by adopting my WMS, that s/he can look forward at the start to a LOT OF HARD WORK, requiring deliberate application of PATIENCE in a bid to narrow down to what works and what does not.
Those things that work, will be the ones that get you the marketing result you want – which is SALES LEADS i.e. pre-qualified prospects or potential buyers that you recruit via your WMS.
Those things that don’t work are the ones that do NOT deliver (or support/complement the delivery of) the outcomes described in the above paragraph.

“Hurry Merchants” are often fixated on the idea of making sales happen as fast as possible, no matter how new the business they are doing is.

They are the kind who want to get a prospect to part with money within minutes of meeting him, and typically go about doing this by being manipulative. They often employ hype and put psychological pressure on the prospect in a manner designed to force his/her hand.
To put it simply, they use the pushy-salesperson strategy or what I call the “Cave Man with a Club” approach.
I do NOT like that technique, because I find it does not earn me the right QUALITY of clients in the long run.

Quite often those you will win over using manipulative strategies tend to be people who come on board not just with wrong expectations, but also who have WARPED mental attitudes.

Wrong expectations could include wanting you to do MORE work for them than they pay for. .
That initial sale having happened, such people can go on to make your life a living hell, if you are a service provider.
A product sales person may escape from such negative returns if the buyer does not return to do more business with him/her, but the service provider who has collected money from a client who is not a good fit for him/her may end up regretting starting that relationship in the first place.
One Example: Imagine for instance a ghost-writing client who after reading though a manuscript and telling you s/he is okay with it, only to come back 2 weeks later with a demand that you completely add an extra chapter, based on several anecdotes s/he just recalled as important, BUT insists s/he will not pay any extra fees?!
I have had such experiences, and they make you miserable even when you do what you LOVE. We have a term that describes it: Scope Creep, and I’ve written several articles on it, based on true story experiences I’ve had – like this one.
Hurry Merchants are always trying to cut corners – and frequently play mind ganes
That’s when you see someone who adds you as a friend on Facebook last week, saying s/he needs your help, turning around to try selling you HIS/HER own version of that solution s/he said she wanted from you!!!!
I have that experience all the time – and most times I simply cut all links with the person because THAT singular action betrays a lack of integrity that I cannot tolerate.
On one occasion, I got an invite to LIKE a page, from someone who had previously reached out for my help in developing a web marketing system.
Below is the text of the message I sent to the individual, in a bid to offer some reorientation and guidance:
Thanks for the invite to LIKE your page. I am quite willing to do what you ask and LIKE it. I would even gladly share the page to my wall, if you want me to.
However, I feell led to point out to you that I own several pages of my own (and even paid private groups) NONE of which I have EVER invited anyoine to LIKE.
In other words, I have let people find and LIKE them by themselves – by posting content that is in line with the page’s purpose, and which appeals to those who fit the target audience profile I have defined for each page.
I’ve written serveral articles in the past, to explain the thinking behind this counter-intuitive approach I recommend for adoption, which has helped me connect with REAL people with serious interest in what my page offers.
Below are links to a few that I am currently able to recall, which I suggest you explore to better understand what I mean.
Your purpose should NOT be to get MANY LIKES for your page = that is good, but it is better to get LIKES from the RIGHT kinds of people, if you hope to later convert them to buyers (your ultimate goal)!
TIP: I, for instance really do NOT think I fit what would be the target audience profile for your page. Honestly. You need to do the thinking regarding who does, and then use smart marketing content creation and propagation to ATTRACT them to the page.
Hope the articles below help…
[NB: This 3rd one is a paid product I published last year – but the preview I wrote should still give you some insights. I’m NOT adding it here to make you buy it.]
PS: Below is a link to part 3 of 4 in a series I wrote about how to measure a blog’s performance,
The thinking in it also applies to use of a platform like Facebook where people comments, likes and shares are ways one can measure performance of content published by a page owner.
My experience has been that the nature of what you sell, and the kind of people likely to be interested in it can make you have a largely QUIET platform, with few or even no comments/likes per post, and yet you could still be making sales because visitors choose to skip doing all that and contact you directly via messaging, email or your website.
This 4 part series was written way back in October 2012, and today, I’ve amassed MANY experiences that confirm what I said then (based on my experiences for over 7 years before) was correct.
I hope you find some of these materials of some use – and I sincerely wish you well, as you work to make better use of the web to achieve your business marketing goals.
Here’s one final tip: Remember what I said during my talk – TRY NOT TO BE TOO DIRECT i.e. by doing outbound marketing. Focus instead of doing things that will bring people to you i.e. by doing in-bound marketing. It really works. Believe me
FINAL WORDS: Hurry Merchants fret about paying for solutions that require NURTURING of potential sales leads
They want to speak/write to you now and have you dropping money once they make a Call To Action.
Sadly, the world does not work that way -at least for the most part. Not all products and services can be “sold” that way. Unless you’re lucky, you will need to invest quality, time, and effort to build the trust and credibility to win people over.
And to increase your chances of success, you will be better off learning the most effective and efficient way to get the results you want.

For those who struggle to make up their minds about whether or not to signup for my Web Marketing Support Service, I generally offer the insights below

If what I’ve written below does not make you feel “safe enough” to signup, call me and I will explain further why you do NOT need to be concerned about the “result”.
This is a passion for me. My purpose is to get MORE people to DISCOVER they can save LOTS of time, effort and money, while boosting their marketing reach and impact.
It’s a smarter way to do business.
All I need is your ACTIVE cooperation – you cannot be lazy about doing what I will ask of you. You must be ready to learn a new way of doing things and diligenly APPLY what you learn DAILY – like I do,
If you don’t succeed, I cannot brag about how my method works. People will assume it ONLY works for me.
This is why I want to work with persons who reach out to me.
AND if you do NOT give up on yourself, I will NOT give up on you.
My clients in/out of Africa value me because I KEEP MY PROMISES.
Call me, and I’ll ask you some questions to OPEN your eyes to the fact that you will be better off using this approach.

When you say RESULTS – there are 2 main ones to look forward to:

1. REDUCED MARKETING EXPENSES – you will begin to spend LESS money, time,  effort and resources to market your busines.
Doing so means you retain more of your income as profits, makign you better off
2. INCREASED SALES LEADS – While spending less you will be able to reach out to MORE people likely to be interested in what you sell, with your marketing messages.
And this will over time lead to increased sales leads (enquiries), which you will then work to convert to buyers.
The system I offer to setup for you will help you have MORE sales conversations over time – which is the key to making more sales.
Just understand that you MUST be prepared to do a lot of HARD work with me. If you’re NOT ready for that, it’s best you do NOT signup for  my offer.

Now I offer business marketing coaching on how to MONETIZE YOUR EXPERTISE through my Web Marketing for CEOs club.
You see, I had to drop a lot of what I learned in school and learn a whole new gamut of things I found would help me survive and eventually flourish in the real world.
And that is why I do NOT want my kids to get the same formal schooling that I got!
With all these truths I know, it would be irresponsible of me to let them do that.
Funny enough, some of our celebrities are saying the same things I’m saying e.g. Falz The Bad Guy
I understand this talented young musician is son to the famous lawyer/activist Femi Falana, and is himself a qualified lawyer, but earns a decent living (probably better than he would practicing law!) doing music.
His song titled “Way” (featuring Wande Coal) offers powerful real world education for those not yet clued up .

In a previous life, before leaving to become self-employed, Tayo served for seven years (October 1994 to December 2001) as a high performing manager in Guinness Nigeria. He rose from Shift Brewer to Training & Technical Development Manager, and later acted in senior roles as Production Manager and Technical Manager.

In addition to constantly challenging the status quo and influencing positive work changes, he built a reputation for using self-taught spreadsheet programming skills (starting with Lotus 1-2-3, and later moving to Excel Visual Basic) – in his spare time – to develop Automated Spreadsheet Applications to computerize manual report generation processes in the departments he worked. Over four(4) of his applications were adopted for brewery level reporting.

Tayo holds a B.Sc degree in Agricultural Extension Services from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, having graduated top of his class – with Second Class Upper Division honors – in 1992. He is an Associate Member of the UK Institute & Guild of Brewing, a 1997 National Finalist of the Nigerian Institute of Management’s(NIM) Young Managers’ competition, a Certified Psychometric Test Administrator for Psytech UK, innovator of Spontaneous Coaching for Self-Development™ (SCfS-D™), and Founder of the Self-Development Academy (SDAc).

When he’s not amazing clients with his superhuman skills (wink), Tayo works as the creative force behind his Daily Self-Development Nuggets blog – on which he also publishes The Farm CEO Weekly Newspaper (sent via email to paid subscribers) and his Weekly Performance Improvement IDEAS newsletter.

[IMPORTANT NOTE:====

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts he’s published.

If you experience any difficulties finding a page or document, email Tayo at tksola dot com.

Click “Tayo, What Happened to SpontaneousDevelopmentDotCom ?” to read a detailed narrative about how the above event occurred :-))

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

Succeed by Emerging from Adversity Like a Phoenix

(TayoSolagbade.com launches extra Hosting plan with FREE Web Marketing!)

And he wrote the one below, to explain why losing a domain name, no matter how old, NO LONGER determines your online success or otherwise:

A Proven Strategy to Find Profitable Buyers Regardless of Your Domain Name
