No. 100: Nothing Can Stop YOU…Except Greed

This issue of my speaking IDEAS newsletter includes a true story of how, last weekend, a young man tried to “hire” me to “insert” an image of himself, into the photo of a giant aquarium he downloaded from the web! His purpose? To send the “Photo-shopped” version, with a quote, to a prospective client he’d told he could build giant aquariums!

In the rest of this piece, I highlight the fact that our true beliefs manifest when difficulties confront us, or when we want something badly. And I emphasize the need to NOT  let difficulties we face, or needs we have, “push” us to do the opposite of what we profess to believe!

If You’re Diligent, Honest, and Consistent, You’ll Always Get The Results You Want – ALWAYS!

I’m writing this from my home in Lagos, Nigeria. This is the first time since I left the country, on Fool’s Day – April 1st, 2013, that I’m working from here.

One of the main reasons I moved was the need for access to steadier power supply. And that has really paid off. My productivity has quadrupled as a result of that singular move. I exaggerate not.

But another reason was the annoyance of scam artists who operate a lot from here. The stigma still affects me even in my new base, in Benin Republic. But at least I run into those guys less often.

Having said the above, I have never let that problem bother me. My reasoning has always been that sooner than later, my target audience will realize it’s safe to do business with me.

And I’m NOT going anywhere. So when (not if) they do come round, they’ll find me right where they left me, doing what I do – ready to put my unique expertise and insight to work for them.

Rather Than Worry or Go Crooked, I Did Two Things, Repeatedly & Consistently

In essence, I’ve NEVER stopped believing that nothing can stop me. And that’s why today I’m achieving the amazing results people now recognise me for, within and outside Nigeria. And I continue doing them even today…now in fact…regardless of the recognition and accolades I’m getting.

1. I Took Regular Action to Make Tangible Progress Towards My Ultimate Goal

In case you do not know it, my ultimate purpose – through my Self-Development Academy Online platform – is to become the foremost provider of products and services (especially information and education) relevant to Self-Development, Workplace Performance Enhancement, Custom IT Solutions and Business Best Practice Systems Development in Africa – and one of the best in the world.

It has not changed since 2005, when I put it up on the About page on my website (click).

That is not an easy goal to accomplish. When I started www.spontaneousdevelopment.com in June 2005, very few (if at all any) who knew me, believed I could achieve anything worthwhile with it.

But my attitude has since won most of them over. Most have now become trusted sources of support!  In other words, I did not get here all by myself.

But, I had to FIRST of all show others that I believed in myself, to make them believe in me.

2. I Rejected Any Attempts to Lead Me Off My Preferred Moral Track

In simple English, I refuse to let greed, and desire for quick success, make me submit to the influence of dishonest others.

Here’s a brief but true story of a recent experience I had within 6 hours of arriving here in Lagos:

My 2 daughters insisted on accompanying me to a neighbourhood café, where I needed to finish work on a Joomla! project for a new client.

The 60 year old gentleman is a diplomat serving in Benin Republic. I was introduced to him for the first time in his office, less than a week ago. Twenty four hours after we met, he’d written me a cheque to move his farm business website into Joomla!, the dynamic and database driven Content Management System.

Interestingly, my purpose for visiting the embassy was actually to introduce samples of my Pineapple peel based drink, and request their support for my plan to give lectures to interested persons!

Can you see how taking real action in the above manner, opened doors of opportunities for ME in a totally unexpected way? I tell people this all the time: Just take action to do something!

But that’s not the “true story” I actually wanted to share with you…

You see, while at the café with my daughters, a heavily built young man walked in. I looked up, our eyes met, and we recognised one another. But I could not recall where we’d met.

As we shook hands, he told me “Hello Sir, I used to be an attendant at the Cyber café you frequented in Allen Avenue, Ikeja”. Then I remembered. It had been at least 3 years ago.

He said he needed a job done in Photoshop. I asked him to see the attendant. He returned to ask my help as the Cyber Café did not offer the service.

He told me it was urgent, and that he needed to send it to a client before midnight. In a bid to help him, I asked for details. He began showing me pictures – on his smartphone, of walled aquariums, obviously downloaded from some website. Then he came to a picture of himself standing next to a wall.

He then explained that he wanted that photo of himself to be “cropped”, and placed next to a beautiful walled aquarium in the other picture!

Oh oh…red lights began jumping around in my head :-)

I found myself wondering how stupid this guy thought I was. For one thing, if he truly built such aquariums, there would no need for this “doctoring” of photos.

He’d simply go to a past client and request permission to stand (possibly with the client), next to his handiwork, and take a picture to send to his prospective client.

I did not need a “seer” to tell me this guy was trying to win a contract for a job he could NOT do!

His likely plan was to get the advance payment and disappear. We hear these stories all the time.

To save my limited time, I simply told him I lacked the skills to do such “complex” work, and advised that he go down the street to the next café. He thanked me, and left.

People like that young man are driven by greed. And 9 times out of 10, those who get duped by them are often controlled by greed (e.g. the desire to pay what they know is a grossly LOW price, for something they know is worth much more).

Like they say, it takes two to tango.

Nothing Can Stop You From Achieving Lasting and Authentic Success – Except Greed

Greed blinds people to legitimate channels they can explore to achieve lasting success.

The desire to get something by cheating, or taking advantage of others is greed.  In other words, you want to get more than your fair share. Or to get what you are not entitled to.

I learned very early on in life that greed offers only a few “benefits” – all of which are short term. But it results in countless long term regrets!

So I trained myself to ignore it…a long time ago.

Greediness is a learned habit. Therefore anyone who wants to do so can unlearn it.

Check yourself.

Do you have any area of your life in which greed controls you?

Does it make you do what you know you should NOT?

If yes, take the firm decision today, to GET RID of IT from your life…permanently!

No. 96: Amaze Clients By Being Extraordinary!

**** **********

NB: If you ever find yourself wondering what else I’ve written, some days after you’ve read THIS Speaking Ideas newsletter I send out on a Monday, here’s what you can do to find out: Point your browser to www.spontaneousdevelopment.com/sdnuggets to read at least ONE new post added to my SD Nuggets blog on a different category from Tuesday till Saturday (sometimes even Sundays) in line with this publishing schedule :-)

**********

What you’re about to read is a simple – but very effective – formula for impressing people who pay for your services.

People who do extraordinary things often get called “amazing”. If YOU can learn how to habitually deliver extraordinary results, clients will call YOU amazing! It’s that simple.

This issue of my speaking IDEAS newsletter describes a 3-part strategy you can use to achieve that goal.

1. First Agree a Scope of Work Using a FRS

In carrying out projects for clients, always agree a scope of work to guide you. This is always a good thing to do.

It gives a clear idea of what the client has paid for, and when it is to be delivered. That way, you avoid the uncomfortable situation, in which extra UN-PAID work, outside what was originally agreed, gets added to your schedule (i.e scope creep).

I learnt from painful experience never to leave that aspect untreated. As a result, today, most projects I work on for clients are based on a Functional Requirements Specification (FRS) document.

That instrument provides the formal basis, on which the client is to assess the final work I deliver.

And I found that clients who engage me often align their expectations to what we sign off on the FRS.

They rarely expect anything beyond what is on that signed document. And they also often accept that the job will be finished within the duration specified e.g. 20 working days.

2. Then Use The FRS as a Guide to Over-Deliver (3 Tips)

Now, the above state of mind YOU get the client into, is what eventually provides YOU with a unique opportunity to impress him/her. You just need to look carefully for those viable aspects to explore.

Here’s what I mean…

In the FRS, the delivery duration and specific deliverables (tasks to be accomplished) are outlined. As each one is delivered, the client is able to verify and tick it off.

Opportunity A: Firstly, what if you deliberately worked to deliver the finished work 5 working days earlier?

And I mean, the finished job – free from errors or defects that could cast doubt on your work quality.

Wouldn’t that be a pleasant surprise for the client? Quite likely!

Opportunity B: Secondly, what if you also threw in one or two extra services s/he knows would have cost a handsome sum, as a bonus – FREE?

Imagine you did this without saying you would. In other words, let it come as another pleasant surprise benefit to the client – who was not expecting it.

This would be a client who was already happy with what s/he was getting for the money s/he paid YOU.

Judging from my experiences, that bonus is like to make her feel even better about choosing YOU over any other person s/he may have considered.

Should the need to do so arise in future, it’s likely she’ll want to choose you, to feel that way again!

Opportunity C: Thirdly, what if in implementing tasks on the FRS, you went an extra mile for each one?

For instance, as Burt Dubin recommends to experts-who-speaker, after doing your normal program, you offer to do a FREE breakout session at no extra charge?

Or as a writer, instead of ten 700 word articles paid for by the client, you wrote twelve – and let her have the extra two write-ups at no extra charge? Plus, you made sure the articles you wrote were so good, that s/he could not help calling to say:

“Wow, they were all so beautifully written! I honestly cannot thank you enough. You’ve really exceeded my expectations. God bless you!!”

Wouldn’t that be a great feeling to have…in addition to that which would have come from getting paid your desired fees?

It certainly would!

I’ve had that experience more times than I can count. And I know it’s a great way to do what one loves.

Indeed, I’ve already had that experience many times since arriving here in Benin Republic 3 months ago.

Here’s an example in form of a real email compliment from a web marketing client in Cotonou:

Screenshot of an example in form of a real email compliment from a web marketing client in Cotonou:

3. Make Sure You Have the Competence to Over-Deliver In A Manner That Attracts Such Feedback!

To elicit such extremely positive reactions from clients, you must FIRST be really good at what you do.

The question therefore to ask is: “Are you that good right now?”

If you’re not, please DO NOT try to over-deliver for now. Instead, start working to improve yourself.

There’s a saying that “one must learn to crawl first, before trying to walk”. I recommend you do that…unless you don’t mind making yourself look like an ass :-)

Then again, some people actually learn how to be amazing that way too. It just happens to be more painful!

But if you are already reliably proficient at what you do, you can get started using this strategy I’ve described. Creatively develop variants to suit the way you work, or the people you serve.

Final Words: Be Consistent, and You Will Be Rewarded

This is a strategy I use with clients I serve, in my different areas of expertise e.g. Web Marketing Systems Development, Freelance Writing, Spreadsheet Solutions Development etc.

I developed my ideas mainly by studying and adapting advice provided by Burt Dubin in his writing, to suit my needs.

Burt used basically the same strategy, to rise from zero to success in real estate, sales/sales management, public speaking, and mentoring.

That’s why he strongly recommends delighting one’s clients in a similar manner i.e. by delivering incomparable performances, and unexpected extras.

Keep your fees intact. But give more than anyone who does what you do would in their right minds.

Do that consistently, and sooner than later, they are bound to call you AMAZING!

A Proven Secret for Defeating Failure (Lessons from 3 Great Achievers)

Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Abraham Lincoln. What do these three people have in common? The answer is that they achieved legendary success in spite of severely unfavourable circumstances e.g. crippling poverty, and lack of formal schooling.

Question: What ultimately separates those who succeed in life from those who do not?

Answer: It is the degree of persistence with which they pursue their goals.

Lack of access to f ormal schooling, or wealth, can never be a fatal handicap. It can slow you down, but it cannot stop you! History attests to this fact. That’s why we have so many stories of poor people, and school drop outs, who go on to excel at the highest levels in life.

The following are three well known examples:

1. Thomas Edison

Edison’s mother withdrew him from school, and began home schooling him, after teachers labelled him “addled” i.e. incapable of learning. You and I today have proof around us of the fact that Edison made the most of himself, despite having just a few months of schooling.

He was a hands-on person, and developed the expertise he became renowned for, by spending thousands of hours experimenting on his ideas. Lacking money, he started by siting his “lab” in a car! He never gave up, and reportedly failed about 10,000 times before discovering the tungsten filament for inventing the light bulb.

His experiences led him to make this famous – and insightful – statement:

“Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”

2. Henry Ford

Compared to Edison, Ford could probably be said to have been even more disadvantaged. The history books describe him as having been a “stark illiterate”.

Yet he fathered the industry of automobile mass production: cars affordable by the non-rich.

It’s amazing that he achieved that feat without being a professor of automobile engineering!

That’s proof that lack of formal education cannot stop you from succeeding at anything you set your mind on.

3. Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln endured years of hardship, from his childhood, in the process of self-educating himself, to become a lawyer.

At one stage, he walked miles to and from the library, to borrow books which he read by candlelight.

Today, many readily surrender if they discover they lack money, or entry qualifications, to attend law school. Yet, Lincoln, despite challenges posed by his poverty, persisted and eventually became a lawyer – through self-study.

Then he went on to record a series of failures that would have daunted the average person, in business, and later in pursuit of elected office.

But he persisted, and kept aiming higher despite failure at lower levels. So much so that he eventually got elected into the highest office in the USA, as President!

Little wonder he was once quoted as saying:

“I may be a slow walker, but I never walk backwards.”

And it was also Lincoln who said:

“The world steps aside for the man who knows where he is going.”

He certainly knew what he was talking about!

This Blog (& Website) You’re Reading NOW, Is a Product of Fanatical Persistence

Yes it is. If you think the above subtitle is exaggerated, I assure you it is not. This is not an ego trip. I offer the details below, as evidence that I practice what I preach; I take my own medicine :-)

I’ve told all (mostly family) who have played a part in my entrepreneurial journey since January 2002, that I’ll be mentioning their names – and roles – in the book I’m writing on this.

I built this website in June 2005. And I’ve kept it online, and grown it tremendously, since then.

Not much money is required to run a website. However, when you lack money to meet your daily needs, even the little needed to keep your website up can be hard to find. I should know!

What’s more, it’s taken relentless investment of LOTS of effort, time, sleepless nights without rest (and sometimes DAYS without food!) – to keep this multi-disciplinary website going over the past 9 years.

During this period, I’ve consistently churned out content to serve my target audience.

Today what I offer has evolved to include special PDF reports (e.g. making drinks you can sell from fruit skin/peels), daily articles on 6 different topics, a weekly newsletter on speaking IDEAS, excel-visual basic software for payslips/feed formulation, and video tutorials on various useful subjects, among others.

Note that I’ve done all this alone, while sometimes still catering to the widely differing needs of clients in various industries.

Long ago, stories about Edison and others taught me that PERSISTING, no matter what, gets you to your goal. You’re reading this today, because I’ve always done that.

Diligent Persistence CAN Save You – and Your Child!

You – and your child – can apply persistence and end up telling even better stories.

I offer the following suggestions based on what I’m doing with my own kids:

Tell your children the stories of achievers like those mentioned above. There are many more of course – including the great Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Ghandi, and others Google can throw up.

Get your kids to go online (or do it with them), to read up even more details of how such people defeated extreme adversity, to achieve noteworthy success.

Point out the fact that it did NOT happen overnight. VERY important. They need to be ready for that.

Let them understand that they can also succeed with persistence – no matter how tough things get.

This message needs to be repeated to them as often as possible.

Challenge them, as the opportunity presents itself (and it will), to apply that understanding when they come up against even the most minor of challenges.

Final Words: Persistence Is a Habit You Can Learn – and Teach

This article used true stories to illustrate how ordinary people, starting wth nothing, achieved unlikely success using just ONE weapon: dogged persistence.

The following quote re-enforces the foregoing point:

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence; Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful individuals with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent” – Ray Kroc (Founder of McDonalds)

Persistence can be taught. It’s a habit that can be developed.

YOU, as well as your kids, can use it to achieve your own goals. The earlier you start, the better.

At a point, you’ll begin to apply this ability to persist, more or less spontaneously – and seemingly without effort.

The uninitiated around you will consequently marvel at your seeming ability to defy failure.

And you will get to live your dreams.

No. 93: Aim to Be Reliably Competent – Not Popular

Competence, when reliable – and especially when exceptional – can lead to popularity or fame. However, chasing popularity ahead of competence can make you prone to avoidable mistakes e.g. going inadequately prepared for a speaking gig, and goofing up.

Now that, could also make you popular – but it would be for the wrong reasons!

In this issue of my speaking IDEAS newsletter, I discuss 2 reasons why chasing popularity ahead of reliable (and preferably “exceptional”) competence, exposes you to the risk of looking bad as an expert-who-speaks.

No. 93: Aim to Be Reliably Competent – Not Popular.

1. Premature Popularity Can Cause Subtle – But Potentially Costly – Distractions

Celebrities in various areas of endeavor know fame can be a double edged sword. So they’ve learnt to take necessary precautions in their daily lives.

Some of us do not appreciate the value of having “unknown” faces. We can walk down the street anytime we like, to the bar, or to watch a local football team play in the neighborhood. Not many people – except friends, family or associates – would take any notice of us, talk less of calling out to others to say “look!”.

Michael Jackson was often referred to as a mega star. He could not dare go out in public that way. Just like many other famous people still with us today.

Thankfully, popularity comes in degrees. I doubt I could tolerate such loss of my personal freedom that Jackson had to endure. But we all have our passions. He achieved results in his chosen area of expertise, that made him that popular.

When what you do puts you in the public’s eye, popularity tends to be a natural outcome of demonstrating reliable competence – over a reasonable period of time.

For Jackson and other celebrities, their popularity, which came as a result of what they did(do) so well, also posed (poses) a serious source of distraction.

You cough, and it becomes news. You decide to change your attire, or car, and someone comes up with a creative interpretation in the media. Suddenly everyone has something new to say about you, or what you did – and sometimes it may not be so nice.

Okay, so that’s more common in the entertainment industry.

But famous people in more formal vocations (e.g. public speaking) also get plenty of attention from the public. This is why it pays to FIRST devote time and energy to honing your skills, until you’re able to flawlessly deliver solutions or results to those you serve.

If popularity subsequently results from that, you’ll be relatively safe, since doing more of what you do, AFTER it arrives, will be easy for you.

However if you go around drawing attention to yourself as a “superstar” of sorts in your field, without gaining reliable competence, you set yourself up to look bad – eventually (emphasis on reliable).

2. You Can Mistake Your Premature Popularity for Achievement

Secondly, chasing popularity can make you stop striving to improve – you start thinking you’ve arrived. Especially once your efforts to be popular make people start paying more attention to you.

I read a quote credited to a famous writer. It admonished aspiring or up and coming writers not to mistake recognition for achievement. In other words, don’t get carried away by the applause of your admirers. Focus on moving to the next level of accomplishment.

Look at great achievers in the world. Even when they have been acknowledged as being the best at what they do, they never really stop trying to do more.

No they don’t. Instead they strive to create new value to add to what exists. And sometimes they invest energy and time in helping others learn how to do what they have done.

Yet, some relative newcomers in different fields (including the speaking business) make one big splash in the pond, and suddenly think they’ve done it all.

There is a big difference between “having potential” and “actualizing” it.

For instance, a person can arrive with talent and abilities never before seen or heard of.

However, long term success achievement cannot be compared to one flash in the pan – no matter how big the flash is.

Reproducibility & repeatability are crucial for demonstrating reliable competence!

You have to be able to deliver to expectations over and over, to prove you’re reliably competent. And this applies in ANY area of endeavor.

So, even when people begin to announce that you’re the next big thing, it pays to focus on actually BECOMING that big thing, rather than playing to the gallery.

Final Words

You can’t just do one big thing, and then think you can ride on the back of that, (followed by other relatively mediocre showings), to achieve long term relevance.

People who try to do that rarely end up well – for obvious reasons!

The late Zig Ziglar gained worldwide fame by FIRST demonstrating reliable competence. Robert Kiyosaki also achieved global recognition the same way.

Both handle(d) their popularity well as a result.

Many other examples abound (including that of this renowned veteran in the speaking business), that confirm it pays to achieve (exceptional) competence first, rather than chase popularity.

Doing otherwise could lead to costly negative consequences.

One GREAT Place Many Online Service Providers FORGET to Look for Clients Today!

If you use the web a lot to find clients, you may be ignoring this potentially great source of “buyers” for your writing (or other) services. This happens because the Internet tends to seduce people into thinking they will be seen by all those they need to reach, once they’re there.

The hard (or harsh?) truth is YOU won’t!

Why? Because some potentially profitable buyers of your services could be “searching” for what you offer, but they may be offline! Yes, even in this day and age – and not just in my part of the world too!

What’s more, sometimes these offline (or web-indifferent) potential buyers many not even realise they need your help.

In other words, their need for your writing (or virtually any other) service would still be un-felt or unconscious. It is therefore only if/when you show up, and point it out, that they might decide it’s worth doing something about. Since they’re offline, your best bet to get their attention would be to look for them there i.e. offline.

I suggest 2 specific examples of such potentially profitable clients – likely – to be found offline.

1. Wealthy, Retired/Aged – But Offline – Persons With a Story to Tell, or Something to Teach

They’re rich, and have been that way possibly for decades. They probably did most of their wealth building the old fashioned way. For those that own companies, they probably don’t directly run them, and instead have young and smart CEOs who report to them periodically on the state of affairs.

Most will often say they’re too old to be bothered about straining themselves to use make elaborate use of computers and the Internet.

These kinds of people often have stories buried in them. Some may even nurse the desire to not just write a book, but also to offer coaching ideas for others.

Put your expertise to use here. Identify people like this and “sell” the idea of ghost-writing for them to achieve such goals. It could take some doing, but some could welcome this as an opportunity to purse a new dream or challenge, that would not require exerting themselves much.

Money will rarely be an issue. Just make your offer in a way that demonstrates benefits they want.

2. Successful – But Internet “Unfriendly” – Persons with a Story to Tell, or Something to Teach

This group typically use the net “grudgingly”. Some successful business owners I know only use email, and argue that the rest of the web is a distraction. You won’t find them reading articles on websites – they have their copies of newspapers and magazines delivered to them!

I once read an article about the Mexican billionaire declared to be the world’s richest man. The article revealed that he travels by public transport, does not use a laptop and rarely uses the web.

Someone like this may be hard to reach or “sell to” – using his company’s e-mail for instance.

His attitude towards the web makes it likely that reaching out to him offline would be a smarter move.

People who fall into this group often express a preference for direct interaction via phone or in person.

Interestingly, if you win them over, they could later let you take work you do for them online. And if positive benefits accrue to them that could get you assigned additional paid projects!

Successful Online Service Providers Today Still Use Offline Marketing – That’s a Clue!

This strategy is not new. It’s just little used, because people let the lure of the web blind them to it.

Notably successful service providers, who market online, still market offline, and done so for years.

Burt Dubin and Jason Leisterin that order – are two examples I have carefully studied.

For over 25 years, Burt has delivered certain special reports to interested persons via post or snail mail. You have to give him a real address to send it to. No emails or PDF downloads. It comes to you in an envelope. If I recall correctly, Burt even pays the postage – including international destinations.

Update (11th June 2013): Oops. Got that last bit wrong. Burt requires you to send a self-addressed stamped envelope to him. And if you’re outside the USA, you have to include a dollar to cover the postage. Otherwise the report is still free.

Jason Leister sends his own special report (The Rainmaker letter) on paper to each subscriber. And he swears by the effectiveness of this strategy.

If this strategy did not work, Burt would not have continued doing it for over 2 decades either!

Final Words

So, now you know.

It of course goes without saying, that adopting this strategy will not dig a hole in your pocket.

Moving around to meet such potentially profitable buyers of your “service” will require expenses on just a few phone calls, and some transportation. The rewards to be had are certainly worth it.

You will have to decide how wide you spread your net. Burt and Jason decided on “how”, based on a good understanding of their target audience, and what reward ONE sale could bring to them.

Meet “high value” prospects using this method. Those you can propose big budget writing projects to.

Use the web to make initial contact with the rest. After initial contact, you may make offline contact.

You can establish valuable face-to-face contact with real people, who have money to spend this way.

All sorts of good things can come out of that, if you play your cards right.

No. 92: Caution – A Prospect With Money May Be Bad For YOU! (3 Tips)

People are not the same in the way they approach pursuit of set goals and objectives. You may be willing to be focused and committed. But your new client may not.

That’s why even when they have money, some people may not be good for you as clients. And if you take them on, things could end badly for you. You therefore need a reliable system to evaluate prospects, so as to choose clients who are a good fit for you.

This issue of my speaking IDEAS newsletter discusses 3 checks you can use to protect yourself.

No. 92: Caution – A Prospect With Money May Be Bad For YOU! (3 Tips)

**********

People are not the same in the way they approach pursuit of set goals and objectives. You may be willing to be focused and committed. But your prospect may not.

Human Beings Are Unpredictable

If you’ve been reading my speaking IDEAS newsletter, you know I advocate using public speaking as a business marketing strategy. So, in addition to pocketing a fee for speaking, it can get you hired to do what you do as an expert.

Delivering a speech requires you to be in control of yourself. That’s relatively easy.

However, working with people to achieve a preferred outcome can be more challenging.

And that’s because it involves the unpredictable human variable – outside of yourself.

Three (3) Checks You Can Use to Avoid Taking On a Wrong Client

First, I assume you’ve already established that the client has the means, and is willing, to pay you.

What follows are 3 useful checks you would be wise to do before saying yes to such a client – even if s/he offers loads of money.

If you want long term success, and would like to build on your successes, adopt them for use with clients.

1. Willingness to Commit Required Time & Effort?

You need the commitment of a client as the decision maker in her company, to get your work done. If she’s a solo entrepreneur, you’ll need her to be available to supply agreed data, finish tasks, review progress or take other decisions.

Get formal agreement on this. Else you may end up being accused of failing to deliver to the deadline, when in fact you lost time chasing her around to keep appointments with you.

This happened to me more than once. I’ve learned my lesson well!

2. Clearly Defined (and Realistic) Expectations?

What is the final outcome to look like? Does she know what she wants? If yes, is it something you can deliver? If no, let her know. Propose viable alternatives.

You’re the expert. Show that you know your stuff.

Don’t let the lure of money being offered trick you into saying YES, when you should say NO!

I use an MS Excel based Functional Requirements Specification (FRS). The client fills in the fields. We review the list together. In certain cases I point out something I do not think can be delivered (or measured) as specified. Or one not covered by the original scope of work.

Eventually we sign off the FRS. The client later uses it to check that I’ve delivered what s/he paid for.

If you cannot get a prospect to complete this process with you, it would be unwise to start work.

Indeed, this process can guide you to quote a better fee for your remuneration – and get her to accept!

3. Readiness to Take Ownership?

What about when you finish the job and hand it over?

Will she put your solution to use or implement the agreed actions as prescribed?

Let’s say you’re a physical fitness/weight loss expert for instance. And you’ve spent 12 weeks with an obese client – providing lessons on proper nutrition, and conducting physical fitness training sessions.

How can you be sure this client will CONTINUE to apply what s/he has learnt from you?

You could say it’s not your business. I however argue that if you indiscriminately take on clients who don’t follow through, you’ll end up shooting yourself in the foot.

Question: How?

Answer: They are likely to make you look like what you offer does not work.

You’ll consequently have fewer success stories to tell future prospects.

Consider also, the real possibility that such people may choose to deny they’re at fault, by claiming your methods did not work for them!

Final Words: Always Check to Be Sure You Can Help a Prospect Succeed Before You Say YES

Take Burt Dubin for instance.

He has helped many wannabes become highly paid international speakers over the past 25 years.

But to achieve this feat, he does not take on all comers. People actually have to apply for consideration!

Here’s what Burt said while speaking with Clarissa Burt on her show:

“You can’t just send me money. I have to feel I can help you succeed.”

It is this precaution he takes, that enables Burt guarantee success in the speaking business to clients. He KNOWS those he picks will diligently invest needed time and effort, to get results that will earn them MORE than they pay him!

I believe all service providers should emulate Mr. Dubin.

So, next time somebody comes waving money in your face for your services, don’t get so carried away.

Take your time to check that the person will be a good fit for YOU, as a client. Your success depends on this.

In the long run, you’ll be glad you did, because like Burt, you’re likely to have tonnes of testimonials and success stories for use in winning over more “good fit” clients.

When YOU Love Writing Enough, It Will Reveal All Its Secrets To YOU!

Has anyone ever told you that YOU were born a writer? If no, then I just did. And I assure you that it is true.If you have never thought about yourself this way, that’s probaby just because, the conditioning you’ve received from society has made you forget. This article explains how re-discovering and embracing this inborn ability will help you uncover secrets you need to excel at writing.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said:

“The power that is in you is new in nature. And none but you know what that is that you can do. Nor do you know until you try.”

I’m Living Proof That It Is True

Once you have the ability to read, hear, think and reason, you can be a writer. It’s that simple. If you could ask any of those who knew me as a child or during my days in school, the last thing anyone imagined me doing was writing – the way I do today, for myself, and for clients .

I’ve since seen others who never showed any aptitude for – or interest in – writing, suddenly venture into it, and get hooked. That’s why we have medical doctors, musicians, fashion designers, photographers, scientists, and people in many unlikely fields who write. And they often do so seriously too – many getting well paid in the process as well.

But Why Should You Believe Me?

Well, you see I’ve used my writing to achieve all kinds of (what I used to think were impossible) goals – including getting people to part with money for different things I sell (e.g. custom Excel-Visual Basic Driven software, for feed formulation, payslip generation etc); print and eBooks, usage rights to articles, consultations etc).

Considering my part of the world from which I’ve done it, I believe this achievement becomes even more significant.

What’s more, I’ve continued all this, despite relentless sponsored efforts to sabotage my work online.

A few years ago, my name was not known in certain circles. In my own country, many who knew me did not take my writing seriously.

But today, relentless use of my writing to boost name recognition and marketing reach has gotten me massive positive benefits.

And it cost me nothing more than the effort and time spent writing the relevant pieces.

And I’ll do more with time – the efforts of any detractors notwithstanding.

I Say The Above Not to Massage My Ego, But to Show You Can Do the Same

Just like me, you can (and probably already) do something similar – or better (like 19 year old Bamidele Onibalusi, who I love to brag about all the time). The problem, for some people, may however be that they do not yet believe they were born to write.

So, I’m going to say it again: You were born to write. Everybody was born with the innate instinct – and capacity – to write!

However, not everyone keys in to that realization early on in life. Some of us take a while to discover and take ownership of that inborn ability. Others may never, possibly because their interests and vocations (sometimes their fears!) won’t let them go in that direction.

When You Love Writing Enough, It Will Reveal All Its Secrets To You

I coined the above phrase from a quote used by Burt Dubin (which he credited to an author I cannot recall) during an interview.

The original quote went thus:

“When you love something enough, it reveals all its secrets to you.”

Burt Dubin is a renowned mentor of some of the world’s highest paid professional speakers. So he commands the attention of listeners when he speaks on the subject of achievement.

He also shared some useful information about Leonardo Da Vinci, as written by a biographer (in the encyclopedia Britannica):

“From his earliest days, he flung himself upon his studies with an unprecedented ardor of delight and curiosity.”

Based on the above Burt rightly advocates immersing yourself in your vocation, with the ardor of a lover, if you want to excel at it.

He noted that that was how Da Vinci developed the concept of submarines, aircraft and more, “hundreds of years before they were invented”.

Burt further noted that that was how he (i.e. Burt) developed his unique grasp of the speaking business.

It goes without saying, therefore, that that IS what YOU need to do as well, if you want to excel at writing – or indeed any other vocation that catches your fancy..

Like I said when I started this piece, you were born to write. Therefore, to paraphrase Mr. Dubin, “Surrender to Your Purpose”!

The results won’t appear overnight. But as you continue, you’ll gradually begin delivering amazing writing output. And those who read your work will confirm it.

Good luck!

Outsmart Competitors (& Earn More) Using Foreign Language Skills

This newsletter serves speakers, but service providers in general may periodically find some issues useful – like this one. Discover how developing ONE foreign language skill can help you (1) beat more competitors in your current market (2) win more business in new markets, and (3) make more money – despite harsh economic times.

This Will NOT Be Easy To Do!

I will not lie to you. What I propose in this piece will not be easy to do. But it can be done. I know, because I have done – and am still doing – it, even now. The long term benefits make it worthwhile.

So, you must purge yourself of any biases. Nothing in life that’s worth having is ever really easy – otherwise, everybody would succeed with little or no effort.

To outsmart your competitors (and earn more) using foreign language skills, I suggest 3 steps you can follow…

No. 88: Outsmart Competitors (& Earn More) Using Foreign Language Skills

**** **********

NB: If you ever find yourself wondering what else I’ve written, some days after you’ve read THIS Speaking Ideas newsletter I send out on a Monday, here’s what you can do to find out: Point your browser to www.sdacademy.org to read at least ONE new post added to my SD Nuggets blog on a different category from Tuesday till Saturday (sometimes even Sundays) in line with this publishing schedule :-)

**********

1. Become Bilingual: Learn a Foreign Language Your Target Audience Needs

If you’re really ambitious, become a polyglot by learning multiple languages. However, I’d say carefully choosing one language your target market(s) can reward you for is best i.e. aim to become bilingual, by developing ONE useful foreign language skill.

That will give you a unique competitive edge your rivals will find hard to beat. This applies to service providers in any field. Unlike other skills, many people (especially those who consider themselves busy) simply find it hard to commit needed time and effort towards developing reliable proficiency in a foreign language.

That unwillingness on their part creates a great opportunity for you. All you need to do is choose the right language, and work hard to learn it.

Hiring a bilingual employee could also work well. However I argue that having functional competence in reading, writing, and speaking that language, as the top decision maker is what will really do the magic.

I say this from closely observing self-employed professionals who operate in this manner in Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Cameroon.

2. Go into Markets Few Others Care To Visit

The global economic crisis has reduced opportunities available in immediate local environments.  Sometimes you’re in your home country and market, and have to compete for clients with an overwhelming number of people who do exactly what you do.

Finding profitable projects therefore tends to be quite difficult.

But just across the border, there could be a demand for what you offer – in a contrasting scenario. Sometimes even right in your market the demand could be there.

Potential clients could be desperate to find help in your area of specialty: The only problem is, these they speak a foreign language e.g. French, Chinese, Italian etc

One example: As a legal consultant your services could be useful to fresh immigrants arriving in your country, and also to intending investors with limited English proficiency. That is of course if you could communicate effectively in their own language.

No matter how good you are at what you do, they will likely prefer a rival with reasonable familiarity with, their language, and possibly their culture.

3. Offer Solutions Few Others Care To Provide

Here are a few ideas…

a. Reach out to foreign business owners, and organizations (e.g. multinationals) – existing, or just arriving in your country/market to start business – and offer your services.

Example: A French speaking partner to a bilingual legal consultant friend of mine (knowing he cannot wing it) often sends him documents in English for translation. As a result, my friend earns extra income from both colleague and clients by being bilingual!

b. Travel to countries where your learned foreign language is spoken, and offer your services as a bilingual service provider. You can win projects to be executed there – and also win projects to be done back in your own country.

Example: In a French speaking country, for instance, you’re bound to come across business persons and professionals looking to explore opportunities at your end of the planet, but have always been held back by a lack of English speaking competence.

They are likely to jump at the opportunity to achieve their goals with your guidance.

I’m sure you can come up with more ideas when you think about it.

How Can Any of these Help Experts-Who-Speak (or those Aspiring)?

Now if you’re (still) wondering about how any of this can help experts-who-speak, I offer some insights, as one who is currently doing it.

I’m already getting invitations to deliver my talks on entrepreneurship here in Benin. Most people in the first set of audiences I’ll be addressing, are English speakers with a desire to learn French (many being from Ghana and Nigeria).

I plan to deliver my messages to them in a mix of both English and French – sharing anecdotes about my experiences in learning French.

Interestingly, this same foreign language skill is what attracts French speaking career persons, professionals and entrepreneurs out here to me. Many have told me how they would love to make themselves understood in English, they way I do in French.

When I complain that my French is bad, and that I need to improve it, they counter “Mais tu parles deja!” (i.e. “But you speak already!”). So they insist I speak English to them.

This “imperfect” language skill of mine already gets me noticed, making my offers compelling (especially since I also market a product to help others develop similar competence). But I refuse to rest on my oars. Using ideas described here, I continue working hard to improve.

Simply put therefore, a bilingual speaker often gets set apart from the crowd. She can explore opportunities (or joint ventures for learning events) in markets where her preferred languages are spoken. Her rivals who lack similar skills would be locked out.

Final Words: To Get Better Results, Do Something Radically Different

More importantly, to stay ahead of rivals and copycats, choose something they cannot easily replicate. In my opinion a foreign language skill would be a perfect weapon.

As I earlier noted, I’m currently practicing what I’m preaching, by traveling slowly across West Africa, as a Location Independent Entrepreneur.

We have more French speaking countries in West Africa, than English speaking ones. To explore Francophone markets for business opportunities, it therefore goes without saying that a working knowledge of French will come in quite handy.

Having learnt to speak, read and write French back in 1999, I’ve found it easy to functionally integrate into business life here in Benin Republic. And my newly launched Quick & Dirty English-French language guide for career persons and business owners is helping me connect faster with my target audience, resulting in new alliances and clients.

TIP: Make yourself a helpful resource to clients and prospects with language needs. Indeed to anyone with such needs. Doing so has endeared me to many English loving French speakers since I arrived here in Benin Republic. And they’ve introduced me to their networks of friends and associates, earning me increased visibility and credibility.

Interestingly, I’m now looking to return to Nigeria intermittently to offer my new range or products and services with a twist, that competitors will find hard to match!

You can do the same thing in your country and continent – wherever you may be. Learn French, Italian, Spanish or Chinese etc – to achieve the outcomes described above.

Good luck!

3 Reasons YOU Need To Learn Public Speaking

It may sound like I’m pushing it a bit here. But I honestly feel, based on over ten years of personal experience, that the practice of public speaking confers multiple life changing benefits on. In this issue of my Speaking IDEAS newsletter, I outline 3 specific ways in which learning public speaking can help you make the most of YOUR life.

Important Note: By the term “public speaking”, I am not restricting myself, in this piece, to acts in which a speaker has to step up on a platform to deliver a formal speech. Instead, I refer as well to those instances in daily social life, in which individuals use their speaking skills to exert influence and leadership on others – directly or indirectly. And this includes one on one interactions, as well as small or large group situations.

Having made that clarification, let’s get started.

No. 87: 3 Reasons YOU Need To Learn Public Speaking!

**********

From our early years in school, to the working years and even after retirement (when we become “senior citizens”), the ability to speak acceptably attracts rewards and benefits in various forms. I explore 3 key examples below:

1. Increased Friendships and Personal Influence

“Speakers – especially successful ones – are often people who tend to know a lot of other people from various walks of life. And that effectively gives them access to potentially powerful channels of influence – even power” – Tayo K. Solagbade

A natural outcome of being a public speaker (especially if you deliver results) is that you’ll get invited to many different places. After every event, it’s likely that new connections will be made during the interactions that follow after the event.

Think about any public speaking personality you know. You’ll agree with me that many literally grow a wide network of often influential friends, and contacts as they go along.

The best part is that you can never be sure who will be in your audience. Sometimes you’ll speak at an event and afterwards get called to meet with a known name or influential personality in your field or industry, who happened to be attending that event.

If you impress often enough, such people may begin to refer to you in interactiing with others. Over time, you’ll find yourself being courted by others based on those references.

Just as this can happen for self-employed speaking professionals, it can also work for career persons who deliver presentations to senior colleagues in organizational settings. In the same way, young people in tertiary institutions (and even high school) can achieve similar results.

Every opportunity you have to address influential others in groups, or as individuals, can be exploited to achieve interpersonal impact that gets you noticed.

If you do it right, that impact can attract useful friendships to you, increasing your sphere of personal influence. For instance, a simple mention of your name – or sighting of your face – could make someone waive a rule (or fee) for you to get something you want.

2. Leadership and Career Success

In school participating in class, engaging in club activities, contesting for elective office, and so on. All require speaking and influencing other students. Deliberate study and practice of the art of public speaking by any school age person – possibly with coaching provided by reasonably competent adult (e.g. parents) – will equip her to excel amongst her peers.

It is assumed here that she will of course have the needed competence to carry out relevant tasks in each area of endeavor. In some cases, as key ability required for success will be that same public speaking competence e.g. as president of the student’s union or debating society, articulating convincing arguments in favor of position or cause.

A young person who does the above – even if not successful – will have received good preparatory foundation on which to build when she enters adult society. Quite often she will have a competitive edge over her peers in this area.

It is worth noting that recruiting companies usually prefer to young people who demonstrate evidence of having been active in that manner during their schooling years. Reason: It shows they already have useful skills and experience in leading and influencing others by asserting themselves.

3. Recognition and Fulfillment

One of the most powerful ways public speaking benefits a person is the opportunity it gives you to serve others by helping them succeed by sharing what’s worked for you.

In my opinion, there’re nothing better than being able to help others discover how to improve themselves using your ideas and knowledge. That kind of investment never fails to yield returns in multiple fold – not just to you, but also to your offspring.

“It is only as we develop others that we succeed permanently” – Harvey Firestone.

A good example of the goodwill that notable public speaking accomplishment attracts is the goodwill that Femi Kuti (and his younger brother Seun) enjoy as the offspring of the legendary Afro beat musician and firebrand Nigerian human rights activist – Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

In the same way, Tom Ziglar is accorded significant recognition today as Zig Ziglar’s offspring. None of this diminishes in any way, the accomplishments of these individuals in their own right. The point being made is that the public speaking successes of their parents provided a unique competitive advantage for them to launch their own careers successfully.

And such parents, more often than not, experience significant fulfillment while alive. I believe that’s a noble goal to aim for. That is, to achieve success, recognition for ones self, that can be built upon by those who come after us – like our offspring.

Final Words: This True Story Illustrates How Speaking Competently Can Literally Open Doors for YOU!

I feel it would be appropriate to include an example of how the above benefits can manifest. As usual I use personal examples not to brag, but to re-enforce my message.

In late 2002, I appeared on a popular Saturday morning show in Lagos, Nigeria called “Morning Ride” on NTA 2 Channel 5.

Mr Tunde Fajemisin, then Programmes Manager had put me on the show to answer questions about my little book titled “Proven 5 Step Formula for Learning ANY Language in 3 Months or LESS!”. I wrote that book based on my experiences in learning to read, write and speak French in 1999.

During the show, I had to field random questions, asked in rapid fire fashion, from a veteran presenter Sadiq Daba. At a point, Sadiz said “Oh, you’re an interviewer’s delight!” – his exact words. That told me I’d done a fairly good job with his questions

That Outing Was To Yield A Quick Pay Off On The Following Monday

(NB: I should note that it actually yielded results before Monday because my sister called me that weekend that her friend called her to say she saw me on TV, and wanted a copy of my book. Same happened with my mother, whose friend called her. And others.)

2 days later, I visited a bank in Surulere area of Lagos to cash a client’s cheque. But the security operative announced that it was after 4pm, and that they had closed to customers.

Now, I’ve never been one to take NO for an answer. It’s a habit that has gotten me many unexpected rewards. So I requested that he let me speak with one of the bank officers. He protested that nothing could be done. I politely insisted. Eventually, he went in to try.

To my surprise, the gentleman he returned with took one look at me and said “Hey, you were on Morning Ride on Saturday!” in an excited voice. Quite surprised, I replied that he was right. And that was all –he told the operative it was okay, and we went back in together, while he chatted with me about the show – and the book.

Now I know it’s not like anyone gave me a bag of money :-)

But at least I did not have to leave the bank without achieving my purpose for coming there. The next day I was able to set out without having to plan to re-visit the bank to cash that cheque!

In essence, I got what I wanted, when I wanted it. And it happens like that quite often, to competent public speakers.

Based on the above, you can see that you have more to gain – and nothing to lose – by investing a little time and effort to learn public speaking. A good place to start is by joining a toastmaster chapter in your area.

At some point, you may decide to step out of the amateur leagues to become an expert-who-gets-paid-to-speak, even internationally.

When that happens, consider learning from someone who – for over 25 years – has been a mentor of some of the highest paid speakers in the world. His name is Burt Dubin. Click here to send him a message. Tell him I sent you, and you’ll get a surprise offer.

PUBLIC SPEAKING EXERCISE – To Aid French Speakers learning the English Language!

In collaboration with my team members, a special event will be organised here in Calavi (Benin Republic) for persons who purchase copes of this guide i.e. French speakers who want to learn to speak English.

They will write short (one page) speeches in their favoured French Language, and we will help them translate to English. They will then be coached to deliver the English versions of their speeches to audiences as a way of helping them gain better grasp of the language.

This is an exercise I have personally benefitted from. My plan is to engage the support of sponsors – including my contacts in the local TV stations here, to publicise this event, to organise it for as many groups as are interested.

For details of how to get a copy of the guide (on CD/DVD or via download), send me a message via this form

No. 86: Humanize Yourself By Talking About Your Mistakes: Audiences Will LOVE You For It!

**********

What would you do if as the invited speaker for an event, you make the mistake of travelling (by air) to the right city, but in the wrong state, less than 12 hours to the event? That’s what happened to Burt Dubin in 1983!

As a mentor of world class speakers (for over 25 years), Burt encourages his protégés to be students of life – and to share their mistakes, in order to better connect with their audiences. In this teleseminar, Burt practices what he preaches by telling that story in a teleseminar hosted by Bryan Caplovitz of Speaker Match Radio.

What follows is a text transcript version I created from the audio.

Byran: In addition to being diligent and having tenacity, is that another key factor that you think a speaker needs to have? They need to be a great storyteller?

Burt: …I would say that yes, but more important than that, be a student of life. I have been a student of life, eh ever since my father abused me as a child when I was four years old. That’s another story I don’t think we’ll get into at this time, but I’ve always studied the human condition right from the time I was a child, wondering why things are as they are.

And from this study, the opportunity came to observe and I must say, to grow wise.

And it is important to allow yourself to grow wise about what’s going on in your world. What’s going on in your country, in your city, durng your times. And from all of these, you can take a step back, if you can take a step back out of the arena, if only for a few minutes a day and watch what you see. And…harvest such wisdom as there may be for you.

You see the world through your eyes.

Your perception of truth is indeed your truth. And it is important Bryan, when we stand before audiences to share our perceived truth based on such wisdom as we may have.

And if you share it with passion. If you share it with enthusiasm. If you share it with deep belief. If you share your perceived truth with real ah enthuse..(ehm I’m looking for a certain word…I guess I’ve used the word).

It is this passion that carries your message home. You may not be right – so to speak – in the eyes of everyone in your audience, especially if you have  a political view. However at least they will be able to see that this is your perceived truth.

So we go back to authenticity.

It is importsant that YOU, the speaker, whoever the speaker may be – this is for everyone on the call – speak with authenticity about matters which you know well. Speak with authenticity about matters which you know well.

You may not always be right, but your perceptions are yours.

And what about when you make a mistake?

Oh heaven knows everyone of us makes mistakes. I’ve made 10,000 or more. We’ll take that word apart. Mistake. MIS – TAKE. A mistake is only a MIS – TAKE: what do they do in the movies, when there is a MIS – TAKE?  they do it over.

I’ll give you an example.

I remember the time  I showed up (laughs) in the right city but the wrong state to present a program. This really happened. 1983.

Bryan: Right city, wrong state?

Burt: (Laughs) Ha…Right city, wrong state. You wanna know what happened in that?

Bryan: Sure

Burt: It really did. I showed up in Burlinghton, Vermont, because I was working with a travel agent at the time. I was speaking 4 or 5 days a week. And I had my travel agent do all my bookings. And I got all my booking cities from the person in charge of  the seminar company for which I was then working, way back then.

And she always gave me my cities by name of city only. So I went to my trusted OAG – Official Airline Guide – and there was only one Burlington in the OAG, and it was in Burlington, Vermont!

So I had my travel agent book me into Burlington, Vermont ten o’clock one night. Called the Howard Johnson, and asked if they had transportation from the airport. The first thing I noticed was they had the wrong area code.

I’m not such a dummy. I was in line when the brains were given out!

I realized they did not have the wrong area code. I was in the wrong area code! So, ten o’clock at nite, they roll up the sidewalks in Vermont at nine o’clock at nite. No flights out until the next morning. I am in big trouble!

I find a room for the night. I don’t get to sleep, and I wake up the seminar coordinator, and I say “Hey where am I supposed to be this morning”. And she said it was a different Burlington. It happened to be Burlington Massachusetts!

Thank God it wasn’t Burlington Illinois, it woud have been really serious.

So in the middle of the night, I did what I had to do. Called Air Vermont, got a flight out at 6a.m, from Burlington Vermont, to Logan airport, in Boston, from which I could get a limo and an hour later I could be in Burlington, Massachusetts (Laughing) to do the program.

I went througth all of that. But I turned it into fun.

I happened to like… happen to love Vermont maple syrup – and I’m in Vermont! So I got up very early – I didn’t even go to sleep, I slept about an hour – and put on my clothes.

I found a coffee shop – an all nite coffee shop, and at 4 O’clock in the morning, I had hotcakes with Vermont maple syrup  – Oh boy was that perfect!

Then I hightailed it to the airport. I got to Logan airport by 7a.m. Got to the venue by 8a.m and they all said “Where are you? Where’ve you been Where did you sleep last nite?”(Laughing)

Anyway the program I presented on adrenaline – just adrenaline – I got no sleep – was one of the best programs I ever did (Laughs). I thought you might like that little story.

Bryan: (Laughs) Ha ha…at least you remember it that way!

Burt: No..hey man that’s the way it was!

Bryan: So, that is another example of telling a great story. Do you includes stories like this of your life experiences, even when presenting your standard workshop or something?

Burt: Always. You see they are the lubricants. They…You know lubricant makes the wheel of commerce go round. These are the lubricants, they humanize you.

People love to hear about your mistakes!

FREE PDF REPORT: How to Get Kick As* Clients – By Jason Leister (www.artofclients.com)

FREE REPORT: How to Get Kick As* Clients - By Jason Leister (www.artofclients.com)

Just as I was putting finishing touches to the 15th April 2013 issue of this newsletter, Jason Leister’s e-mail broadcast to subscribers popped into my Blackberrry messages window.

Amazingly – in a theme consistent with that issue – he announced that he’s giving away his highly rated “How to Get Kick As* Clients” PDF report for FREE. Not optin required. Nothing.

Now Jason’s email offer’s arrival is an excellent example of one of those “coincidences” I mentioned will happen IF you take diligent action!

All he asks in return is that we spread the word about his PDF. That’s why I’m doing this. And it’s also why I’ll be creating a permanent link to it via a thumbnail image on my website.

Yes, that’s how much value I place on it: You see, in a tribute blog I published last year, I listed Michel Fortin as one of 5 mentors whose works really influenced me (another is Burt Dubin). It so happens that Michel has read Jason’s PDF. His review tells me it’s a gold mine. Period.

I intend to do my bit to see that Jason gets rewarded for his generousity. So click here to get your copy now – and don’t forget to spread the word. That’s ALL he asks. It’s the least we can all do…and it’s good Karma too :-)
