Many users of MS Excel however remain sadly unaware of the powerful software development capabilities that application sitting on their PCs puts at their disposal. Most people think of coding done by traditional programmers as beyond their reach.
In reality however, coding is a skill that can be developed by anyone with the interest and passion for it.
A 5 year old can learn to code competently using conventional programming languages. All s/he needs is to be able to read and write.
When it comes to coding using Excel-VB as a programming language, things get even more exciting. This is because VBA is a much more intuitive medium for coding. Also, the Excel engine on which VBA coding is applied, offers an amazing array of preprogrammed features and functions that make development of automation much easier.
Every business user of spreadsheet applications, will value any opportuniy to boost the accuracy and reliability of the data recording, analysis and report generation process s/he depends on for decision making in paid or self-employment.
Whether for your personal benefit as an employee or business owner, or for the benefit of your clients, in your capacity as a consultant, knowing how to automate routine and repetitive tasks and procedures in your spreadsheets save you LOTS of time, effort and even money!
Below is the screenshot image of the final video tutorial in a downloadable series, that I sent to members of my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation Club, just this morning.
They received the first set of videos in the series, last Monday, following the maiden issue of the FREE monthly workshop I conducted for them in Lagos.
The tutorial video was accompanied by the actual workbook I used to create it.
The club members will have access to view the code I ended up with, that dynamically creates a monthly report format from January to December, using a drop menu driven by Excel-VB code created using a Macro recorder and then modified to execute a repetitive task.

He rose from Shift Brewer to Training & Technical Development Manager, and later acted in senior roles as Production Manager and Technical Manager.
In addition to constantly challenging the status quo and influencing positive work changes, he built a reputation for using self-taught spreadsheet programming skills (starting with Lotus 1-2-3, and later moving to Excel Visual Basic) – in his spare time – to develop Automated Spreadsheet Applications to computerize manual report generation processes in the departments he worked. Over four(4) of his applications were adopted for brewery level reporting.
Tayo holds a B.Sc degree in Agricultural Extension Services from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, having graduated top of his class – with Second Class Upper Division honors – in 1992. He is an Associate Member of the UK Institute & Guild of Brewing, a 1997 National Finalist of the Nigerian Institute of Management’s(NIM) Young Managers’ competition, a Certified Psychometric Test Administrator for Psytech UK, innovator of Spontaneous Coaching for Self-Development™ (SCfS-D™), and Founder of the Self-Development Academy (SDAc).
