The truth is however that the story teaches adults – regardless of religious preferences – who wish to LIVE right before the Creator, that they WILL be continually tested in various ways, in their efforts to achieve their goals and dreams.

So, the message in this book is NOT really a religious message as such. Instead it is one for ALL who wish to connect with the Creator and let Him direct their affairs daily.

You can be an adherent of any faith.

What matters is that you BELIEVE in the almighty God, and in His ability to reward you for living a life worthy of His approval. Adversity will be visited on you from far and near. Friends, even loved ones, may let you down or even plot to bring you down. But if you have unflinching faith in God, NOTHING they do will make you fail or fall.

“Defeating The Devil Inside” illustrates the foregoing, based on the narrative of the travails of a young believer and his young female convert.

In spite of a series of painful setbacks in his personal and work life, the young man remains courageously faithful to God, and supports the young lady with unconditional Christian love even when she strays off the path, into bad company.

Lessons to be learnt from this young man’s example include:

> The importance of staying strong in times of adversity, keeping faith that God is in control

> The value of loving others unconditionally, and supporting them no matter how badly they fall or fail, or how hard things get for YOU, or them.

> The need to take diligent personal action, with prayerful faith for God’s guidance, to turn bad circumstances around for the better.

> The understanding that sometimes hardships befall us because God wants us to learn something important i.e. not all setbacks are negative.

> The insight to know that when we’re going through adversity, some tempting offers of help we get may NOT be from God. Sometimes accepting such “help” may lead us to bigger problems.

> The foresight to develop competencies that boost one’s ability to achieve financial security, without needing a job (Mention is made in the story, of the real world Vocational Skills Training programmes provided by Omowale Ola’s Foundation for Skills Development in Lagos-Nigeria).

It goes without saying that when I wrote the original script almost 3 decades ago as a teenager, I was NOT thinking like I AM now!

As you can see, the pages are really worn out. It took some effort to type out the first 2 pages, as the writing had almost faded out completely.

Years of exposure to the realities of the real world as an adult have influenced me to use that same story in this manner.

For instance the original story ends with the young believer and his convert finding better jobs than those they lost. This book’s version ends with the young man attending vocational skills training after a futile job search, and then starting a small business – after which he then gets a job. But he continues running his business part time.

That’s more consistent with the realities of today’s world compared to 1987!

Now, despite making slight modifications to the story line to reflect current realities (e.g. use of phone SMS) as well as deliberate emphasis on the wisdom, in today’s world, of developing competencies and nurturing talents/abilities to gain financial security (via references to Vocational Skills Training programmes run by the Foundation for Skills Development – FSD), I have retained most aspects of the narrative regarding the DEVIL in their original form.

In the book, I deliberately used FSD as a reference in the revised story line, for the main character (John)’s self-transformation – he attended a 7 month “carpentary” program at FSD and launched his own venture.

As a green-eyed first year undergraduate in Nigeria’s University of Ibadan, I wrote the original story with a VERY different conception of the “Devil” (a key character in the story), to what I have now – 28 years on.

In this book therefore, the “devil” is NO longer really the devil in the sense of the “biblical fallen angel” – lurking around trying to lure believers to sin.

The message I want to pass about the “DEVIL” is a bit deeper now.

Today – for me – the “devil” as presented in this story is not the one commonly talked about.

Instead THIS devil is the kind that gets to us in real life, in form of a “naughty inner voice”, as well as via “naughty people” we encounter daily (e.g. friends, clients, even relatives) in society, who may try to make us do wrong in thought, words and actions!

The story’s characters are made to engage in serious internal dialogues when faced with adversity.

This illustrates the battles we often fight INSIDE ourselves (hence the title “Defeating The Devil Inside”) when going through hard times or dealing with temptations.

This book’s narrative therefore gives YOU an opportunity to consider how you behave under difficult situations, from the perspective of an observer.

Hopefully it will help you realize the need to maintain absolute and unquestioning faith in the Creator’s ability to SAVE you, no matter how much trouble or tribulations you face, so you never resort to doing things you’ll be ashamed of.

I intend to use the money from sales made to organize dramatization of the story by young children, by liaising with socio-cultural organizations everywhere I travel – even here in Benin Republic (a French language version will be written).

Like I mentioned earlier, I actually acted the role of Devil when this script of mine was dramatized in Christ Baptist Church back in 1987.

It was great fun for all the kids involved, and I personally came away BELIEVING that the happy ending of that story was destined to be the case for ALL who acted in line with God’s will.

It’s why today, I live my life that way (i.e. acting in line with the Creator’s will). That’s why I want my kids to do the same thing.

Drama is a powerful medium for communication and instruction.

The process of reading their lines, and acting out their roles, will help them internalize the message, and hopefully imbibe the morals/values being advocated for adoption.

The purpose is also to build their confidence and skills in reading, comprehension, critical thinking as well as public speaking, among other benefits.

In case you wonder, I happen to be blessed with six (6) kids. Except for the youngest who is a year old, the others are of ripe enough age to play the different characters.
The three eldest of the 5, are boys aged 16, 14 and 12 respectively, while the girls are 9 and 6 years old.

This article is a tribute of sorts, to my wonderful Beninese friend Salifou Moumouni, to wish him happy married life as he ties the knot with his heart throb – Zuliha – over in Parakou today, in an event I’m sadly unable to attend, due to unexpected developments – despite being here in Cotonou.

Moumouni told me about the wedding on Thursday, and I’d excitedly told him I would make it down.

I stayed back in Cotonou yesterday (Friday), to close out some online work till close to midnight – thinking I could make it the next morning.

What I did not know was that Parakou is actually 400km away from Cotonou…!

[Hold it, don’t ask me how come I didn’t know despite being here since 2013: I’ve moved around but not had time to get that far…lol]

That’s a journey that cannot be embarked upon at 8.30a.m in the morning of the day a wedding ceremony in Parakou would be starting at 10a.m!!!

As you can imagine, I felt so silly when I called Moumouni this morning when we had the following conversation:

Me: Ol boy, I’m sure you’re excited. Today is the day O!

Moumouni: Yes O.

Me: So, when is the ceremony starting?

Moumouni: From 10a.m

Me: Right, so how much does it cost to take transportation from here to Parakou?

Moumouni: Ah! Noooo. If you’re not here that means you can’t make it. It’s very far O. About 400km. You can’t make it on time.

Me: What? O I didn’t know it was that far away. I actually got so busy yesterday that I decided to come down this morning. But I never realized it would take hours.

Moumouni: No. Don’t bother yourself. I will soon be back in Cotonou. No problem.

After the call ended, despite what Moumouni had said, I still tried to find way…

I went out to ask a few friends about the fastest way to get down to Parakou. They told me to take the BIG bus from the park near Etoile Rouge, but warned that I would arrive quite late, and have to sleep over.

I told them I would NOT mind, as this was the wedding for a good friend that I did not want to miss.

So, I got back in to the room and began packing my things.

Just as I finished dressing up, my phone rang.

It was a call from Nigeria – specifically Abuja, from a prospective buyer working as a technologist with a research agency.

We’d been exchanging calls and emails for about a week and a half.

This time around, he was calling to inform me that he had just made payment – via online bank transfer – for my Ration Formulator and Feed Formulation Handbook bundle, and wanted me to confirm receipt.

I told him I would check.

Not long after, I called him back to confirm I’d seen the alert, and that I would get back to him.

When the call ended, it occurred to me that I would have to fulfil the order BEFORE leaving for Parakou – because the promise made in my sales offer is delivery within 24 to 48 hours post payment.

I realized there and then that if I went ahead to Parakou, in the hurried manner that had become imperative, I would be unable to fulfil my promise – since it would be a long trip, and I would have no access to the web.

Years of experience have taught me NEVER to fail to deliver on a promise made to buyers

Especially buyers in THIS part of the world, who take a leap of faith to send you money, without ever meeting you in the flesh!

If I went to Parakou, I could not be sure of Internet accessibility and connection reliability there since I’d not been there before. In fact it was not likely I would have the time to search, since I woud be there for the wedding.

On top of that, I realized that tomorrow being Sunday, finding a cyber cafe open at Parakou (since I would have to sleep over), would probably also be difficult, if not impossible. Even here in Cotonou, only few cafes open on Sunday, and some don’t have reliable connections.

The above considerations made it apparent to me that I simply could not afford to go ahead with my plan to make the trip to Parakou.

That’s why I’m typing this piece at my favorite cafe here in Cotonou.

After I’m done, I will prepare the personalized copies of:

I will then dispatch an email to the new buyer in Abuja – with download links to the above items & to video tutorials for the Ration Formulator.

To make up for my absence, I’ve asked Moumouni to bring back as many photos and videos as possible from the event…

My plan is to use them to create a special commemorative presentation they can keep at home and also share with LOVED ones – even online.

I’ll be posting a version here on my website to celebrate them.

It’s the least I can do for my GREAT Muslim friend with a golden heart, who welcomed me to his country with open arms, when I was a LOST stranger in Calavi (a town outside Cotonou, where the national university is located), looking for rented accommodation, and having no luck.

Moumouni helped me find a place to stay with friends who treated me like I was one of them. Less than a week later, I had found rented accommodation that I used for 3 months, in Calavi – before finding a self-contained apartment back in Cotonou.

That happened back in 2013, and we’ve been the best of friends since then.

In fact, Moumouni is like a blood brother to me: he has gone out of his way countless times to do what most others – even my own relatives – would not. I exaggerate NOT.

But do you know the best thing about this guy?

It’s how he responds when you want to thank him using more than words: He always points out that Allah expects us to help one another and NOT to demand reward for doing so.

Such a model God-fearing human being!!!

New Book: “Defeating the Devil Inside” (Goes LIVE on Sunday 16th August 2015)!

My new book’s title – Defeating the Devil Inside (photo: inside page) – will raise eyebrows…and that’s (partly) the idea.

However, unlike past efforts, this is a work of fiction, and it’s based on the script I wrote for a play in 1987 at the age of 17, which was dramatized (I played the “Devil”!) by the youth wing of Christ Baptist Church Gbagada, in Lagos-Nigeria.

I actually stumbled on the badly worn handwritten script (photos will be posted along with the book cover on Sunday), few months back while doing some packing. After reading through it, I knew I needed to turn it into a book, but with an invitation to interested persons to dramatize it, if they wished.

If you’ve been following my writing for any length of time, there’s a good chance you know I’m NOT religious.

That probably makes you wonder what I’m doing writing a book that for all intents and purposes reads like a protestant preacher’s story based sermon!

The truth is I was born and raised in a strong Christian home – by deeply pious parents, who still attend church today.

Indeed, I should point out that when I wrote the original script back in 1987, I was still a strong member of Students Christian Movement (SCM), in UNIBADAN.

However, from 1989 I stopped attending church formally, and have not done so till date.

Yet, my life’s achievements since then are PROOF that I have NEVER been more connected to the Creator that I am today.

So, what went wrong? Why did I stop attending church before I turned 20?

Well, that’s a story for another article, or book.

Suffice to say, for now, that I’ve written this book because I am a diehard Extension Services Provider!

In other words, I do whatever it takes to communicate successfully with my intended target audience. Even if it means using religion as a “sweetener” to pass across  what I feel may be a potentially “bitter” message across.

Now, on the surface, this book’s title and the story line itself may appear to be primarily about religion i.e. the devil, angels and Christians battling evil.

But in fact my core purpose is to communicate a message about the following:

a. the importance of upholding the time honored values of honesty and integrity, no matter what.

b. the need to pursue part-time or full time business ownership as the path to achieving financial freedom in today’s world.

So, I’ve only used the wrapper of “religion” to make it more appealing to the majority of people, in my target audience, who I know to be partial to “religion”

It goes without saying that when I wrote the script almost 3 decades ago, as a teenager, I was NOT thinking like I AM now!

It’s the years of exposure to the realities of the real world as an adult, that have influenced me to use that same story in this manner.

It’s now designed to teach adults – regardless of religious preferences – who wish to LIVE right before the Creator, that they WILL be continually tested in various ways, in their efforts to fulfill that goal.

So, the message in this book is NOT really a religious message as such.

Instead it is one for ALL who wish to connect with the Creator and let Him direct their affairs daily. So, you can be an adherent of any faith – what matters is that you BELIEVE in the almighty God, and in His ability to reward you for living a life worthy of His approval.

Adversity will be visited on you from far and near. Friends, even loved ones, may let you down or even plot to bring you down.

But if you have unflinching faith in God, NOTHING they do will make you fail or fall.

This book’s story illustrates the foregoing, based on the narrative of the travails of a young believer and his young female convert.

In spite of a series of painful setbacks in his personal and work life, the young man remains courageously faithful to God, and supports the young lady with unconditional love even when she strays off the path, into bad company.

Lessons to be learnt from this young man’s example include:

A. The importance of staying strong in times of adversity, keeping faith that God is in control

b. The value of loving others unconditionally, and supporting them no matter how badly they fall or fail, or how hard things get for YOU, or them.

c. The need to take diligent personal action, with prayerful faith for God’s guidance, to turn bad circumstance around for the better.

d. The understanding that sometimes hardships will befall us because God wants us to learn something important i.e. not all setbacks are negative.

e. The insight to know that when we’re going through adversity, some tempting offers of help we get may NOT be from God. Sometimes accepting such “help” may lead us to bigger problems. So one needs to stay connected to the Creator – and it’s crucial to have a confidant to consult at times like this. That’s why parents need to get close to their kids, so they feel safe confiding in them.

Once again I emphasize that this book’s story, though based on Christian religious practice, is meant to provide guidance for ALL who strive to live right before God

My attitude is one of keeping an open mind towards all possible sources of spiritual enlightenment, as directed by the spirit of God inside me.

So, I learn from ALL – and I share with ALL who will have me.

The Dalai Lama (the great Tibetan spiritual leader) has been an inspiring role model for me.

In fact, he is someone I think ALL of us need to learn from in terms of how to RELATE with others who have religious preferences that differ from ours!

1 of 2: PUBLIC SPEAKING – Should You Request an Advance or Not?

When a potential client is nibbling at our sales bait, and we sense s/he is likely to bite, one can sometimes make potentially costly mistakes. For instance, how flexible should you be? Should you agree to start work without getting a reasonable advance payment?

There will be rare exceptions, but I argue that ANY competent expert, should INSIST on a reasonable payment advance.

Among other things, it helps you establish the seriousness/readiness of the prospect.

If a potential client does not ask you how you want to get paid, I say GET WORRIED, and make a point of TELLING him/her how much, and how you want payment to happen.

If s/he balks, take it as a warning & insist on getting the advance in hand before you start.

The late Consultant’s Consultant – Herman Holtz recommended the same thing…

In his Guide to Independent Consulting, Holtz recommended that when you’re a solo act, you should request advance payment to cover your cash flow needs.

And he narrated several anecdotes to illustrate the fact that it is both possible, and advisable.

One of the examples he gave was that in writing technical reports for his multinational clients companies, the decision makers always acknowledged his need to get paid about one third in advance.

Not just that, they also had no problems doing business with him by coming over to his home office.

Holtz noted that this made it easy for him to access cash to progress client work, while cutting out overheads that could have accrued from paying office rent etc

Another thing he said was that if you ever find yourself dealing with any potential client or company decision maker, who is unwilling to pay you a reasonable advance, BE VERY WARY of starting work for him/her!

Why?

You still have to ask??

Okay, I’ll tell you:

What if the person turns around to say s/he no longer wishes to continue – AFTER you’ve been expending your billable time and energy to work on the project?

In case you’ve never experienced it, I can tell you that it DOES happen!

You can argue and protest that s/he needs to pay for your time/effort expended. But the truth is you would NOT be able to force him/her. You would basically be at his/her mercy, and most likely have to accept whatever you are given!

Now, I can hear some people saying a formal contract would prevent that from happening.

That’s probably true. But clients do fail to fulfill contract obligations too!

Also, if truth be told, many times, a lot of things are done based on a “gentleman’s” agreement – especially when one is a solo act, dealing with a small or medium sized client company.

Most people do not bother with too many formalities.

My painful past experiences from my early startup years influence the views I have on this topic…

Those encounters made me choose passive income generation, over active pursuit of LIVE client projects as a major vehicle for getting remunerated for solutions I offer.

On several occasions before I got wise to their antics, I found myself being taken advantage of by seemingly “nice” clients, due to my naivety.

One example: When a CEO old enough to be your father, promises to pay you once you finish making the requested additions to the custom application you built for him, you tend to believe him.

Especially here in Africa, doing business with people who are older than you can prove dicey.

Booby traps based on the African culture’s requirement that you show “respect”, can make you prone to exploitation!

I’ve talked about this in several past articles, so I won’t dwell on it here.

Suffice to say that after I got screwed over by a number of unscrupulous (older) persons, I began putting my foot down, and rejecting “promises” from their likes.

That did not earn me accolades, or goodwill with most of them. I still recall being told by one such much older person/CEO, that I was too ambitious for my own good :-)

He argued that my insistence on a 70% advance, despite the fact that he had given me his word as an older person from my tribe, showed that I lacked respect.

For all I cared at the time, he could have been speaking Greek…!

This was a man, who the staff had conversed about in my presence, before he arrived that day, that he had refused to pay salaries for the last month, 2 weeks into the new month. Yet the past weekend, he had thrown a big party for his son’s birthday – and made some of the staff serve the guests!

That bit of news from the grapevine, was not the only one I heard. And it helped me quickly realize I needed to be proactive in dealing with him.

We eventually parted ways with him saying I could NOT go far in business, because I was (according to him) “rigid”!

Well, like I said before, I never let anything people like him say bother me.

However, as the years went on, I realized the “mental martial arts” one had to engage in, to get paid for work done, was wearing me out.

So I began to think of ways to do what I LOVED doing, without worrying about getting my advance, or my balance.

Over time it occurred t me that my best bet would be to reduce the need to do work that required such interactions. I eventually settled on creating solutions based on market need I identified, and then promoting them for sale to a pre-qualified target audiences.

It took me time to perfect the process. Also, as is often the case with everything else in life, there was a period of trial and error, until I got it right.

Today, I am much better off…!

Potential buyers simply reach out to me and I tell them the price for the product they ask about. Most times they go ahead and pay up, and I deliver it to them.

In some cases, a few people still try to “negotiate”. But it’s never like what obtained in the past. Most times I simply make them a counter offer, with some promo incentive.

When it has to do with delivering a service (e.g speaking/training or custom Excel-VB software development), I simply send formal correspondence stating the terms under which I do such work.

Among other things, it spells out a 75% advance payment requirement, BEFORE I can accept to do the work – be it to give a talk, provide training/coaching or to develop an app.

If the prospect says that is not acceptable, I may be willing to accept a lower advance – to a minimum of 60%. Sometimes I throw in some incentives to make my terms more palatable.

But how far I am willing to go, often depends on what I SENSE is the degree of sincerity.

If I perceive there is some ulterior motive, or scheming going on, I get VERY formal and stick with my template.

Below is a quote I always use to remind myself that I am NOT being “bad” by putting my foot down that way.

Don’t confuse my personality with my attitude. My personality is who I am. My attitude depends on who you are.” – Frank Ocean

If anything, this has turned out to be an intelligent act of self preservation that has helped me relentlessly GROW my income/brand to what it is today!

In other words, it has helped me avoid getting used and dumped in dealing with all sorts of people in MANY different industries I have served clients/buyers as a solo entrepreneur.

Interestingly, I have seen much bigger operations, whose decision makers failed to adopt a similar strategy, get BADLY exploited as a result.

There was one case in which a CEO agreed to deliver MANUFACTURED products to a (manipulative) distributor in another state, on credit – and then have to wait over a year to get paid – at the buyer’s convenience!

For some strange reason, this CEO lacked the courage to ASK for advance payment, when his very demanding distributor asked for supplies.

At a point he was borrowing from the bank to cover the factory’s cash flow needs – while waiting for buyers to pay up!

To me, it makes no sense to operate that way – especially when you’re selling physical products that have production costs!!

Now, for those of us who sell intangibles like services and digital products, potential losses that may arise from selling on credit are FEWER…BUT they will NOT be less painful!

I see too many service providers who don’t get it. Some tell me they have no choice – especially when dealing with government and large companies.

Well, that’s why I resolved years ago NOT to approach large companies or government organizations for work. At least not out here.

I simply will NOT do work and have to incur expenses to endlessly chase payment for work done – which is what I see MANY who work for such organizations being forced to do.

Don’t get me wrong…

I CAN work without getting an advance – BUT that is IF I TRUST that agreements reached will be honoured. That payment will be made as when due (e.g like when I provided one-on-one Advanced MS Excel coaching for the National Distribution Manager of a popular multinational telecom company in 2004: I got my cheque and cashed it without problems).

The problem is that out here, in my part of the world, there tends to be lost of scheming and deception.

Most people in charge of decision making in such organizations often have bad habits of doing things wrongly.

And service providers suffer the brunt of it most times!

Product sellers can at least make a case for their products to be returned to them if payment is not forthcoming: But service providers cannot!

That’s the thing many service providers out here sometimes seem to forget.

Once you have GIVEN out a service, you cannot take it back.

For instance, once you conduct a training or coaching session, you will NOT be able to UNTRAIN or UNCOACH those you have trained or coached!

So, if you failed to get a decent amount of your payment in advance, before going ahead, and something unexpected happens to the client company (or the decision maker), you may find yourself without payment!

The client company could go bankrupt, or change ownership for instance. Or the person who hired you could get transferred, or even fired!

In other words, if you have money to collect, the above can put your ability to collect at risk.

I know one is not supposed to think negative – but successful business people habitually think/act proactive. They observe, anticipate and project intelligently.

Apart from your physical/psychological efforts, let me also note here that there is a spiritual dimension you will be wise to pay good attention to…

If you tune in to your Creator (by learning to LISTEN to the small guiding voice inside you), there’s a good chance you WILL be better equipped to sense those with naughty motives.

You will know when you need to insist on a considerable advance BEFORE you start work on a client project. That way, if anything does go wrong, you will not be left high and dry, with nothing to show for your efforts.

Imagine how stupid you would sound telling your wife and kids that you get paid almost nothing for the talks they saw you going out to give, over a 4 week period?!!!

It happened to me.

I tell audiences at my LIVE events that true story from 2002 (my startup year). It was a most painful experience.

Don’t let the same thing happen to you!

Develop the habit of requesting at least 50% of your payment in advance.

Don’t let any prospective client tell you it’s not “nice” to be so fixated on money, or that s/he does NOT know you enough yet…or that you’re not being fair by being unwilling to trust him/her…

Final Words: Let Frank Ocean’s quote guide you…

I regularly use the wisdom from Frank’s quote to tactfully rebuff prospective client’s attempts to make me accept (what I consider) risky and/or unfair terms proposed to me.

Years ago I learned to walk away from offers made by people I “sensed” had such ulterior motives, but to always do it politely and tactfully.

I have never had cause to regret my actions anytime I have done so.

And when some tried to insinuate that I was “arrogant” or “inflexible”, I simply replied by expressing sentiments similar to Frank Ocean’s!

My parting message to you is therefore this: Don’t let clients or prospects push you around with unfair terms for work they claim they want you to do.

Think and act like a professional in relating with anyone who indicates interest in doing business with you.

Assert yourself and insist on being treated with respect:

For instance, when you insist on a reasonable advance payment, it will make a statement that you are CONFIDENT, and also that you KNOW your worth!

If they say they want to hire you to “help you” – politely remind them that you WILL deliver VALUE to them, that will justify the remuneration you request.

In other words, let them know that they are not doing you a favour!

What’s more, YOU ARE NOT their employee…

If you go around simply “taking orders” (i.e accepting what clients ask, even if it’s unfair to you)…you’ll do yourself a lot more harm than (if at all ANY) good.

You have been warned!

PS: Everything I’ve said above is based on experiences I’ve had (and continue to have) in MY part of the world…

It goes without saying, that the situation in YOUR society may differ.

Deciding What to Study Must Be a Conscious Process. Sadly, many people get pressured by parents/society to choose.

Little wonder that we continue to see Medical Doctors who become Fashion Design geniuses; Mass Communication graduates who become IT gurus, Lawyers who establish thriving farm businesses etc!

Those people arrived adulthood only to discover post school, that their interests and dreams were FAR away from subjects they spent years studying!

But why does this happen?

The answer is simple. Our educational system does NOT empower our children, or learners in general, to be intelligently involved in deciding what to study.

Now, in order to effectively and accurately find fault with a system, you MUST first of all gain a competent understanding of its nature and function. That is what I believe makes me – and any others who arq products of conventional schooling – uniquely equipped to identify the flaws in our conventional educational system.

I am a product of that system… and I know with a certainty from first hand experience, as well as observation of others, that it does a lousy job of preparing those who go through it to succeed in the real world – especially financially.

The evidence is glaring in societies across the world.

That’s why it irks me that more people today continue in the same mindlessly resolute manner their own parents did in the past, to push their kids through the same educational system, that has failed them!

Isn’t it said that madness is doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different results?

I argue that every society needs to develop and encourage a culture in which members are taught to intelligently acquire knowledge and skills in line with their interests and passions.

The batch production system of education does not work – because it works against the natural human instinct.

People cannot be treated like catfish fingerlings or poultry chicks to be forced to GROW or MATURE at the same rate, by feeding on the exact same diet, under the exact same conditions etc!

Human beings are individually unique. In other words, no two people are alike – and that applies to the way they learn, as well as the things they are interested in learning, and doing!

Our conventional educational system is unwilling to accommodate those peculiarities in individuals – and tends to punish or discriminate against those who fail to fit in its mould.

The above was why Einstein had major problems fitting in at school, as did Edison…and Richard Branson…as well as many other people who went on to achieve greatness by developing their geniuses outside the school system!

Final Words: That’s why deciding what to study must be a conscious decision making process!

It must NOT be what happens often today, in which social pressures are used to force a child to choose what others feel would be best for him/her!

For instance, science should not choose your child.

Your child should be the one to choose to study science on her own. She must SEE and BELIEVE that doing so will help her pursue her passions/nurture her talents, towards achieving her dreams.

That would make her interested enough to want to devote his/her time and effort to studying it, and then DOING it in the real world, post school!

Otherwise, she’s likely to look finish school with formal qualification in a field that does not excite her, and decide to follow her heart/dreams in a totally different field e.g the Psychology graduate who dumps consulting to build an award winning musical career.

The point to take away is this: If we want their products to do better in the real world, our educational systems need to accommodate the human need to choose based on what interests, excites and inspires learners, in line with their interests, passions and talents.

A Tried & Tested Strategy For Achieving Financial Freedom (Hint: Get My Audio DVD Information Product titled “Proven Ways to Generate Useful Passive Income”)

I recently shared a quote by Robert Kiyosaki on Facebook, stating – in part – that his Rich Dad often said “If going to school made you rich, then schoolteachers would be millionaires‘”. A friend – Ernest – later posted this question: What is the way forward towards earning financial freedom? I don dey tire oooo(see screen shot below).

Now, you could argue that my friend meant it as a joke, and that would be true. However, the truth is that MANY adults today actually WANT to know the answer to THAT question!!

That’s because our conventional schooling systems – including business schools – rarely offer the needed information and education that helps one develop the kind of financial intelligence most needed to achieve true financial freedom!

As a result, most people after leaving school eventually find themselves struggling to make ends meet as they get married and have kids.

I say this as one who excelled at tertiary education, and also in paid employment (which conventional schooling best prepares people for)…ONLY to became the butt end of jokes, and an object of ridicule, once I stepped into the business world to make money outside salaried employment!

Ernest (who posted the question on Facebook), is a family friend – and can attest to veracity of the claims I make above (which I’ve stated many times in previous write-ups on this blog/website)

He knows my story. How I started out as an entrepreneur…how I became the “Bambiala” (slang for “beggar” of the Solagbade family …despite my brilliant academic background and my excellent career achievements in paid employment with Guinness (which I quit to pursue my business dream).

When I got  into the real world, where the safety net of a monthly salary was removed, and fewer checks and balances existed to control “WURU WURU” (aka “crooked”) people and situations, I began to struggle.

It took me years, but by studying financially successful passive income earning experts like Burt Dubin, and especially Robert Kiyosaki, I have been able to dramatically transform myself…

Today, I earn over 80% of my income via passive channels from what I call Digital Cash Flow Generating Assets (e.g. my information products and software).

Using creative marketing strategies I am able to make sales: even on public holidays!

For instance, those who are my friends on Facebook (or fans of my business page) often see the many blog posts I share …sometimes with promotional/sales offers.

What most may not know is that I DO get responses, directly and indirectly to some of those offers, and ultimately make sales. That’s in addition to earning that come from people who find me via Google search results, pages, Youtube, and even Guest Posts I’ve published on third party websites.

The above mentioned are examples of ways I earn income, even when I do NOT have client projects – or indeed when I am sleeping…!

The implication of all of the above is that even when I do not work, I earn income…and that’s the path Robert Kiyosaki is saying leads to financial freedom!

In other words, the ultimate solution to achieving financial freedom is THIS:

Build and nurture cash flow generating assets that continually put money in your pockets, without your needing to WORK.

Details about WHAT to do, and “HOW” are given in elaborate, easy to understand, storytelling fashion in Robert’s books!

The best part is that he says you do NOT need to quit your 9 to 5 job to do what he advices.

In fact, he recommends getting and KEEPING a day job, then using the salary from it, to fund the acquisition and nurturing of the cash flow generating assets you acquire, so that they put more money into your pockets!

Now, what I have discovered is that many people in my part of the world, are so bogged down working too long, for too little, that finding the free time to READ as many of this man’s books as I do, is difficult for them…

If truth be told however, another reason they struggle is that they do NOT like reading, or are simply more interested in reading sports, politics, comedy and other fun stuff :-)

Having said that, I refuse to judge anyone regarding what they choose to do with their time.

Instead, I want to help any who are willing to listen and learn.

Here’s why…

Like I keep saying in more of my new write ups, I have recently been experiencing a DEEP and persistent feeling of compulsion to give back, now that I am recording MORE tangible and consistent success from applying the principles I have learned over heartrendingly prolonged, and humiliating period of years.

I sense that the Creator wants me to HELP as many others out here, as show interest, to discover how to do what I do, which is…Work LESS, while Making More Money, which consequently makes me Worry LESS, and Sleep Better …thereby living a HAPPIER life!

You’ll agree with me that the ABOVE are what virtually every person wants today, but most do NOT know what to do to be able to LIVE that life.

Robert Kiyosaki’s books offer LOTS of information and education a person can use to get started and ultimately succeed.

What I’ve however found from years of trying is that NOT all of his ideas can be put to direct and immediate use here in Africa. I know because I have read several of his books (cover to cover, many times over – when I BADLY needed them to work for me!

It took me many painful years to distill the wisdom from his writings, and adapt them to come up with my own variant of what he proposed, which I now use to GROW my own income, while actually working LESS or not at all.

For many years before I got it right, I could NOT make money as an entrepreneur, if I did not have a client project in hand!

Those were truly terrifying days for me and my family.

But all that is now in the past, as I’ve since developed a tried and tested system that enables me make money without needing to take on client projects.

It all began to really come together for me, from around 2012 – when I plucked up courage to STOP hunting for client projects and focus on working 100% from home, to find buyers for my products and services.

By the time I relocated, on 1st April 2013, to Benin Republic’s Cotonou, in order to be able to clock MORE tangible hours, building my Web Marketing System online to promote my work, things really began to take a MAJOR turn for the better, in terms of passive income sales.

Since then I have NOT looked back!

What makes it even better is that I periodically get clients who reach out to hire me – from remote locations – without requesting to meet face to face. As a result, every now and then I complement my passive income with a little extra from LIVE client projects!

Simply put therefore, the success I enjoy today, is proof that my adopted strategies work.

Last year, I’d told the Farm CEO who’d asked about using the Ration Formulator on his Mac, to try Parralels Desktop.

I’m not sure he ever did, because he later got back to me saying he was using it on his other computer that ran on Windows Operating System.

That bothered me, because I knew he probably preferred working with the app. The problem was the VBA code in my windows based app, threw errors due to certain syntax conflicts with the VBA on MS Excel for Mac.

The challenge was that since no other buyer had ever asked to use my app that way, I was less than enthusiastic about going out of my way to modify my app’s code to suit the syntax peculiarities I’d discovered existed in the MS Excel version for the Mac.

Doing the re-coding and testing to be sure the app would run trouble free was simply too much of a hassle – given the priority I have to accord to other projects I have.

That was why I’d suggested he try using Parralels Desktop. Unfortunately, that app is NOT free to to use. And it’s not exactly cheap either.

I won’t be surprised to learn that that’s why he chose to go back and use the app on his Windows PC.

When, I got a second buyer specifically requesting, after buying the app, for guidance on how to run it without errors on his Mac, I knew I had to find a more realistic solution for buyers with that need.

So, I promised the client that I would reach out to another client who had told me he also used a Mac, and already ran Windows based app on his. My thinking was that I could get the latter share details of the Virtualization solution he was using, with the former.

Unfortunately, that other client replied that he had yet to make use of the app he bought from me, on his Mac.

At that point I decided that I would go online by myself and see what options could be had. What I found appears to have made my efforts quite worthwhile, because henceforth, I WILL have a a ready-to-use, and ZERO COST option for future Mac using buyers of my Ration Formulator to adopt.

This idea occurred to me from years of experience in which I’ve learnt that virtually every paid digital solution offered online, especially in terms of software, has some free equivalent available somewhere. One just needs to know how to search for and find it.

It would appear there are potentially useful free virtualization apps you can successfully use in place of Parralels Desktop.

Virtualbox is your free option. It doesn’t offer a feature set that comes even close to Parallels or VMWare, but it also doesn’t cost anything at all. If you simply need a virtualized environment for mostly any operating system and you don’t need any of the hand-holding provided by your paid options, it’s a solid choice. Like I said, the attraction is that Virtualbox is FREE…by implication, it goes without saying that it does NOT do as much as Parralels Desktop.

But for YOUR needs, and the needs of most other people who just need the functionality to run Windows apps, it is likely to be adequate.

Now, having said the above, Bukola, I will add that YOU will have to do your own due diligence checks BEFORE deciding whether or not to use ANY of the apps featured on the page I have linked to.
