No. 132: A Smarter Way to Learn (&/Or Teach) from Experience

Experience can be quite a good teacher. So one could argue that it pays to learn from her.

However – as someone once observed her fees/charges can often be quite high. And not all her students survive

In this issue I explain why it pays to seek information, education, guidance and support to pursue your valued work and/or life goals, from smart providers of experience based learning resources.

In today’s world, the need to avoid needless waste of one’s resources is becoming more of an imperative for achieving long term success.

If you want to grow in your personal or professional life, you must invest in self-development.

That has myriad implications for different persons. But the bottom line is that you have to find a way to learn as much as is needed to make yourself more competent to succeed.

Traditional approaches have always included attending learning courses in formal institutions.

But when you have a business to run, and responsibilities to meet, making out time to attend live events can prove a bit demanding!

That’s why smart thinking providers of information and education offer self-tutoring/home study alternatives…

Sometimes they do it as a means of giving their target audience a taste of bigger offerings they have. That way, anyone who takes up such offers will gets offered additional products/services e.g. mentoring.

For instance, workshops facilitators may offer the video and audio recordings from their events for purchase long after it has ended (years even!). If you can’t make it, there’ll be a recorded version in audio or video format for you to pick up.

Experts who organize webinars online offer links to recorded versions of the event.

Only people who had difficulty self-tutoring will be averse to adopting such convenient and long term value adding learning resources.

Some Experts Have Taken Learning Resources Provision to the Next Level

They use their experiences and observations as experts in their chosen fields, coupled with careful study of expressed interests from their target audience, to create elaborate learning resources in video, audio and print (e.g. guide books, manuals, etc).

In other words, even when they do not or have not had a live event on a subject, they may have identified that great demand exists from those who wish to learn about it.

Based on that they would then proactively prepare a complete package that interested persons can buy for home based study.

Apart from obvious benefits to the learner, the provider also ends up better off…

This is because s/he can then focus on marketing the complete learning package to the target audience, towards generating passive income.

Getting people to attend a learning event involves a lot, and may not necessarily always yield satisfactory returns.

But when you have prepared the resources that enable you sell what you would present at the live event, to anyone who asks, you effectively become capable of eating your cake and having it.

NB: I used the word there “distil” deliberately. Not ALL experts who choose to become mentors KNOW HOW to “distil” useful information from their wealth of experiences and knowledge, to TEACH others.
