Authentically Successful African Billionnaire Shares True Life Stories In a Series About Fighting Corruption to Succeed in Business [Econet Wireless Founder, Strive Masiyawa Sets an Example Worth Emulating by Business Leaders Worldwide]

Strive Masiyawa, billionnaire founder of Econet Wireless recently began writing a beautifully eye opening and educative series on the subtle shapes and forms in which corruption happens in business here in Africa – and I’m ecstatic he’s doing what he promised!

Thank heavens he’s a globally reconized billionnaire who rubs shoulders with authentically successful others (like Richard Branson) AND he’s also well known for being very pious and strictly honest in all his dealings.

If not for the above, coupled with well known true stories about how he successfully defeated corrupt state sponsored attempts to stifle his business right from his startup years, Masiyawa would by now have probably been accused by those with vested interests, of being “jealous” or “bitter” or “frustrated” etc.

That’s what those who benefit directly or indirectly from corruption readily say about those who speak out against it.

I’ve written about this great man in the past, noting that he is one truly authentically successful entrepreneur billionnaire African that I reckon with.

Most of the others are phonies: What he is saying about corruption is how they make their own money!

Hopefully the young Africans who eagerly click LIKE on Masiyawa’s anti-corruption anecdotal series on Facebook, will remember to walk their talk when faced with the social pressures back in their respective societies and communities.

I say this as one who has had to pay the price for doing so in my personal and business life for over a decade, and gotten mocked or criticized for doing so by most of my peers and younger others.

It is NOT easy to do.

Incidentally, some of the youth want to understand better how corruption happens and why they must resist it.

For instance one young Nigerian, few weeks back, when Masiyawa announced his intention to start this series, had commented that he looked forward to reading about why Masiyawa’s Econet Wireless business failed in Nigeria.

It’s the same question another billionnaire – Richard Branson – has had to respond to, in discussing the demise of the Virgin Nigeria venture he once operated in a partnership with that country’s government.

I certainly hope Masiyawa shares the details of what happened during that period he ran Econet Wireless in Nigeria!

Now, I hinted at it above, and Masiya himself has noted also, that following this true and honest (zero-tolerance-for-corruption) path will not be easy. He pointed out that you may lose friends, lose business/money and it could even cost you your life. Yet he recommends that you stay firm and do it anyway!

I agree with him, and the growing success, and significance I enjoy today for what I do, though long in coming, is proof that anyone who stands boldly against corruption with firm faith in the Creator, combined with a willingness to work hard and be creative, will NEVER fail.

For me, Masiyawa now stands head and shoulders above many other business owners in the world for being willing to stick his neck out in this manner, to EXPOSE inside details of corrupt dealings he has encountered and rejected on the way to becoming a billionnaire.

Through him, more Africans will learn that it is possible to get truly rich without engaging in any corner cutting – unlike what so many misguided friends, clients, and even very close relatives, some elderly too, kept trying to force me to accept.

I never did, and some resent me for it, to the extent that they still look for ways to pull me down, till this day.

Yet I’m doing better than ever, because I used my creativity, with lots of hard work, coupled with blind and unquestioning faith in the Creator to develop a unique system that enables me earn over 80% of my income online.

I recall that at a point back in 2004 or so, I took my fight against corruption online by launching what I called a Beat The Nigerian Factor (BTNF) mini site, where I published examples of corruption I encountered.

That’s why I love what Masiyawa is doing so much!

Anyone who is willing can find a way around corruption. The way I see it, Strive Masiyawa’s accomplishments offer the needed inspiration to do it, and his zero cost “lectures” provide the required guidelines you can follow to succeed

The foregoing quote offers potentially useful insights into how to make your sales and marketing communication successful in winning buyers. I explain below.

Quick Take-Away: You want to read this piece if…

A. you need ideas to get started selling your products/services.

B. you’re already making sales but would like to sell more, with less effort and at less cost.

What I share here I learned the hard way – as a struggling entrepreneur who could not support his family, talk less find funds to pay for marketing or advertising!

In other words, all I had was the opportunity to access the web at N100 to N250 per hour (depending on the café I used), and to try promoting the solutions I offered via self-taught web design and web marketing skills.

Things did not work out for A LONG time, for me.

I recall in 2005 or so, I got to a point where after exhausting my own funds, I would sneak into my wife’s purse and take N100 from the little she’d kept saved there, so I could work one extra hour in the café to try a new idea I had.

Most times after doing that bad deed, I came home with nothing to show for it, and to get some MAJOR LIP from my wife, for taking her money!!

That’s all way back in the past now. But I share these details, because today when I create promotional stuff that I use online people who watch me do it, comment that I do it effortlessly.

I tell them that’s because I learnt to use Photoshop to create graphics and Macromedia Dreamweaver (today I use Joomla! and WordPress) to build websites, NOT because I wanted to, but because I did not have the money to pay a web designer I’d approached to do it for me.

What was more, despite my best efforts, nobody I knew and talked to was willing to give (or lend) me the money to pay the guy.

But being the self-driven independent minded thinker I’d always been, I ignored suggestions that my business idea was bad, and resolved to learn to do it myself.

Some experts believe that it’s best to focus on what you are best at, and to sub-contract the rest to others. I argue that THAT depends on what part of the world you are in, and how reliable the people you have to do that with are.

In my part of the world, the idea of using Virtual Assistants and the like for building my kind of knowledge based business is often an invitation to trouble. Quite often, it’s either you get lots of disappointments or worse, your material could get “stolen”.

I exaggerate NOT. It almost happened to me: TWICE!

So that’s why/how I learnt to create my own promotional materials for use online.

But acquiring the skills only addressed one dimension of the problem. By the time I began using those skills, I soon realized I needed to find a way to get my target audience the pay attention, and at some point RESPOND to my offers (e.g my Excel-VB Ration Formulator, and the popular Feed Formulation Handbook).

Which brings me to the major mistake I see lots of people making when trying to sell.

They are always too focused on themselves, and what they want you to buy. The rarely invest time, effort or energy to INVESTIGATE and accurately identify what you need – or how best to communicate with you (i.e their target audience).

For instance, every now and then I get emails, phone SMS messages, facebook messages etc, in which some product or service offer is made to me.

What always strikes me as odd, is the fact that those who send such marketing messages do so as if they assume they are the only ones, who do what they do and that their offers are irresistible.

Yet when one checks, they offer no compelling reason to choose them over the other providers who sell (what often appear to be) the exact same thing.

Little or no attempt is made to build a relationship or establish some trust. They just write and ask you for business without preamble.

To borrow an expression from Fela Anikulapo Kuti: JUST LIKE THAT!

And that’s the mistake many make.

Even when YOUR offer is free, that approach will rarely work with a discerning prospect.

Smart business persons who are clued up about what it takes to win buyers over, know that the most important thing your sales and marketing communication MUST do is answer the question: What’s In It For Me (WIIFM)?

When conceiving your sales and marketing message, you MUST focus on giving a compelling answer to the WIIFM question in the mind of your target audience.

People often make the mistake of thinking they need to talk about themselves, and how good they, their products, and their certifications are, to convince buyers.

In reality however, if you want to attract high profile buyers who will spend good money to buy from you, the KEY is to tell them how you can help them solve a problem they have!

To do that you must develop a system to discover what problems they seek help with. Then using that information you get as a guide, you will tell them what your product/service can do for them along the lines of interests you know they have.

Quite often this process will not happen instantly or overnight. Instead it will take time and effort, possibly over a period of hours, days weeks or even months.

But the good thing is that once you succeed in gaining the right insights into what the prospect needs, you will be able to repeatedly use what you learn to sell and resell to them!

In fact, as long as you continue to create solutions that work, to meet the needs you identify your prospects have, selling to them will often be near-effortless.

This is what many people trying to sell tend to miss – because they are often in a hurry to sell.

However, unless you have a captive audience and a product/service that no other person offers, you simply cannot succeed by “hurrying” prospects to buy.

If you want cost-effective and sustainable success in selling, you cannot work that way!

What you can do…

I once came across a quote that read:

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care” – Anonymous.

The above words underscore the point I’m trying to make here. But it’s not just the quote that convinces me of what I say here.

It’s the repeat success I continue to record in selling a growing range of mostly digital products and services, to an increasingly global audience that tells me it works!

Let me illustrate based on what I do…

When someone who came to you 2 weeks ago, and asked for details and prices for 2 products s/he discovered on your site via a Google search, goes silent after you’ve responded with details (and a phone call), one would be tempted to assume s/he has moved on.

Yet, time and time again such enquirers have returned weeks, months (even years!) later, to buy those same things they asked about, from me, as if they never left.

I have written several true stories about this in the past – including one that mentions Oladipo Mann who came back about 3 years later!

The key to my success in winning buyers over this way has been my ability to communicate along the lines of what interests them, even when they seemed to have “gone”.

How do I communicate with them when they go away- you wonder?

It’s simply by using a Web Marketing System (WMS), which has at its heart a routine of regular publishing of useful content, that continually invites those who interact with it, to part with their contact details – email addresses and phone numbers especially – via a web form (like this one).

When they do that, they get added to my mailing list database, to which I routinely send broadcasts about my new content as it is published online.

Due to the fact that most of my content is often designed to inform, educate and empower my target audience (i.e. answering the WIIFM question, the subtle effect over time is they begin to LOOK FORWARD to it.

And since I creatively insert references to solutions I offer, in the body of the content I send out, THAT keeps the interest they have alive – in their subconscious.

Over time, they begin to TRUST me, because I am telling them things that interest them, and which they find potentially useful.

Since my focus is never on selling, but on educating them, to do what they do better, including seeing why they’re better off buying from me, I feel no need to chase them…

As Jason Leister so often warns in his newsletter, “chasing” prospects or clients to buy often causes them do the exact opposite (i.e run away!).

Many people who want to sell fail to get this!

The approach of communicating to answer the WIIFM question eliminates the need to chase – and it is the key – the secret! – to sales and marketing success.

You simply keep doing your thing as described above, till your target audience arrives at a psychological point of conviction where s/he decides to ask YOU for payment details.

As long as you make sure the content you send to them is relevant and of high quality, it’s only a matter of time before this happens.

From what I’ve shared above, it’s obvious that this quote explains why answering the WIIFM question in your marketing communication, works. You may therefore want to keep it in mind, when carrying out your sales and marketing tasks in future!

If You’ve Done Everything But See No Results, Do THIS!

There’s a spiritual dimension to authentic success achievement.

Note however that this has nothing to do with a person’s religious bias, and everything to do with his/her ability to successfully connect with the Creator and tap from the unseen depths of His wisdom to gain needed insights to better decipher what to do at various stages in the pursuit of worthwhile goals.

Sometimes you will have done all that can be done on the physical plane…

Not everyone readily realizes this truth. And those it occurs to often find it hard to accept.

Yet it cannot be denied. Many authentically successful achievers have confirmed the role that an intangible yet powerful force played in their lives.

Some have called it luck or coincidence while others called it God, the Infinite Intelligence etc.

We all tend to have names for factors that help turn our fortunes around for the better, at that crucial moment when we’ve done all we know how to do, using everything we have, with little or nothing to show for it.

To borrow an expression from the great Emerson, at that point we would be at our “wits end”.

For the uninitiated, who are not familiar with the process of connecting with the creator, they typically end up going into a state of panic.

But that never helps and only creates more confusion.

It’s circumstances like the above that make some people get described as running around like a “headless chicken”.

But those who learn to connect with the Creator experience the opposite.

They are able to attain a level of spiritual understanding that gives them confidence in the face of uncertainty, no matter how prolonged.

So, rather than be seen running around in a confused state of panic (like the proverbial “headless chicken”), they instead exude an outward calmness in the pursuit of their goals, regardless of the delays, disappointments or setbacks they encounter.

Persons able to remain firmly in control of themselves in trying times like the above mentioned (by applying undying faith while waiting for breakthrough), are the ones most likely to achieve sustainable long term authentic success at whatever they do.

Use Learning Events to Make More Money from Your Book

One of the advantages of Self-Publishing your physical book using Print-On-Demand technology, is that you spend very little to get it in print, and then get to buy it as the author, at the cost price.

This gives you good margin to play with in selling the books.

For example I recently sent a client I helped ghost-write and publish his book the following message, based on the above:

You can buy your books at your author cost price of $3 US dollars, instead of the $10 US dollars selling price!

That means you only need $60 US dollars, instead of $200 US dollars, to get the 20 copies you now want.

But you must add the shipping cost to it – and that has to be checked online at the payment processor. It probably won’t be much different from the $56 or so that they charged for the last order.

So you should be looking at spending $60 + $56 = $120 USD minimum to say $130 or worst case $140 USD, depending on what they charge to ship the 20 copies.

Note however that you also have to factor in the charge for the payment processing platform you use. If I recall correctly, Paypal charges 5% of total payment you make, which is not much of course.

Whatever happens, you will still make major savings, and that low price of $3 USD per book will enable you sell at more attractive prices.

The above is already attractive, but you can get even more…

For instance, by the time you take advantage of bulk discount options often on offer, from publishers like Lulu.com, the margins you enjoy can ramp up in an even nicer way!

Having said the above, rather than sell your books directly, you can make even more money and marketing impact simultaneously, by organizing a learning event to educate people who fit the target audience profile of your book.

It could be a FREE or paid lecture, workshop, or seminar.

Personally I prefer using a FREE or low priced learning event, which interested persons can gain access to by buying the book at a price below the selling price, but above the cost price you purchased bulk copies as the author.

The advert or promo for the event would offer the book at a reduced price, to all those who register to attend. They would have to make payment for their copies before the event, and then come on the d-day with any questions they have, which you would then answer, after your short presentation based on the book.

You would end by mentioning services you provide…

From there some could even hire you to consult for them.

To boost the marketing impact and create more awareness, you could give free invitations to journalists from media houses to attend.

If they like what they see or hear, they would broadcast in their media – but you would not have to pay them.

The planning for this must be done right though, and you could even hold it at regular intervals, say monthly, at different locations, to create awareness.

I used this to sell my books in the past. It works.

LEARN a Foreign Language to Give You More Options for Success Achievement

Less than a month ago, I wrote about Salifou Moumouni, a friend I have here in Benin, when he got married. Below is a photo we took about 2 weeks ago, after he’d returned from Parakou, where the wedding took place.

It was taken on the 8th September 2015, in the mobile phone shop he manages here in Cotonou. I actually stopped over on my way back to Lagos (having only just arrived the night before!) due to the sudden demise of my laptop charger.

The second photo below, was taken just 2 hours ago, this afternoon (Saturday 12th September 2015) in front of the BenAfrique transport company’s bus park, close to Etoile Rouge, here in Cotonou.

The young man with me in the photo is Boco Mahousé – also a Beninese citizen.

He was one of those I shared a room with back in Calavi, during my first 3 months in Benin Republic, before I later found and rented a room back in Cotonou.

While we were together, he proved himself to be very consistent in character. We met today, for the first time since I left Calavi in 2013. He’d ridden down on his motor bike from Bohicon, to see me.

After a meal and conversations about our plans, we’ve agreed that I’ll be going down to visit him at home hopefully in the coming week, to explore an alternative strategy I’ve settled on regarding relocating my family, and starting a farm based business with my kids.

Now, here’s the main reason – apart from appreciating him – that I’m sharing this bit of news about Mahousé…

You see, he can barely say more than a few greetings in English. But he speaks smart French.

In fact, he has an accent and grammer comprehension of the language, that I consider superior to that of his peers out here.

As a result, if I could not speak the language proficiently, I would NEVER have been able to have the quality of conversation I had with him today.

More importantly, I would NOT have been able to tap from his wealth of knowledge and insights about possibilities, regarding the plans I have in mind.

My point?

It’s that anyone who wants to EXPAND the world of opportunities available to him/her needs to identify and diligently LEARN a foreign language

Back in 1999, I decided French was that language for me, based on the vision I had of becoming a Pan African solutions provider.

Today, the ability to read, write and speak French continues to attract wonderful friendships and opportunities for advancement to me. As things stand, I can competently find my way across West Africa, without problems.

As a result, I’m able to enjoy close to, if not THE BEST of multiple worlds!

I recommend that you do what I’ve done (learn at least one foreign language), so you can avoid being limited by your location, in terms of your achievements..

 

People With Skills and Entrepreneurial Savvy Achieve Financial Success Easier and Faster [ Recommended: Omowale Ola’s Foundation for Skills Development – FSD]

To be Perpetually Super Productive Without Suffering a Burnout, Learn to Replenish Your Body (3 Tips)

This is not about buying clothes or other material things for yourself. Instead I refer to your ability to
replenish yourself mentally, emotionally/psychologically, and physiologically. How well you rest/relax and rejuvenate yourself is of crucial importance to your ability to succeed on a continual basis for the long term.

People who have a passion for what they do sometimes tend to unconsciously pursue it at the expense of their personal well being.

If no one helps them stop doing that before it’s too late, the results could negatively impact them health wise, and in the long run keep them from enjoying whatever fruits their efforts may eventually yield.

You must come to an understanding of your body and its needs.

I like to tell people that I “listen” to my body. It tells me what it needs and when – and I make sure I give it just that, every time. This is why I’m able to turn out such a high work rate, equivalent to what 4 people would do, in a particular time period, without looking or feeling strained in anyway.

Indeed, most people half my age (I was 45 on 6th July 2015) cannot match me in the way I work – be it physically, or intellectually.

I’ve proven this many times in the course of working with clients and associates. I say this not to brag. It’s a statement of fact meant to illustrate the importance of applying the ideas I offer here.

My work related stamina is intimidating – as I can go on for well over 24 hours at a stretch, writing articles, reading, browsing, coding my Excel-VB apps, training and speaking, and in between of all that, I shuttle between 2 countries.

Average sleep time I get per day is 4 to 6 hours, depending on the work I have to do. Regardless of how long I sleep however, it never tells on my because I’ve learnt to give my body what it needs, and trained it (via relentless daily exercising) to deliver what I want, so it serves me well when it matters most.

3 tips you can use…

1. There will be times when you have pushed yourself very hard for long stretches of time, and your body will scream for a break, You would be wise to let it have that break. Else, you’ll break down from exhaustion.

2. If you fail to eat well, you will not have enough energy replenishment, and that will affect not just
your productivity but also your health. You would not be helping yourself by falling ill during your start-up period!

3. Then there is the issue of exercising. I was a very active sports person – competing at state level in handball – for over a decade (starting from when I was twelve).Even after I quit active handball to take up corporate paid employment, I worked hard to stay fit by seeking out footballers, handballers etc to train with every now and then.

By the time my work as a corporate manager made it more difficult, I began focusing on doing regular exercises indoors – usually every morning before going out. I can tell you in all sincerity, that whenever I failed to exercise, my mental alertness tended to really drop. I always felt physically heavy, and if I allowed too many days to pass without exercising, I would even begin to feel ill.

Failing to take care of yourself will take its toll on you – physically, and eventually psychologically

I’ve experienced this personally.

During my first few months of running my business, I was so consumed by the desire to get things going that I often neglected to eat or rest properly. I would leave home without eating; work all day, often returning at nine to ten o’clock at night, only to eat sparing and get on the PC to create new stuff for the next day.

Well, soon enough, people began to tell me I was losing weight! (first my wife, then outsiders, acquaintances etc).

Another thing was that my lack of rest gradually took its toll on me so that I became less effective in the tasks I was doing – slower too. As that happened, I got progressively frustrated and irritable, my memory became dulled, as did my reflexes – such that on a particular day I accidentally hit another car while driving, in circumstances that made it obvious my concentration was off. Luckily the other car was not damaged, but I got an earful from the owner!

Here’s why this above point matters so much to your ability to succeed: Others you meet (e.g. prospects) could easily draw conclusions from your uninspiring appearance and disposition, that could spell doom for your aspirations (of winning them over).

A prospective client for instance, would most likely feel uncomfortable if you approach him/her – looking pale, distracted, and irritable. S/he may not say it, but would most likely “think” it.

As you can imagine, not many people would readily write out a cheque to a service provider, who makes them feel that way! The fear would be that such a person would not deliver, or that s/he could divert the money to meet whatever need s/he had, instead of doing the job you paid him/her.

Such fears may be unfounded in your case, but if you let yourself go so badly that your appearance evokes such sentiments in the minds of your prospects, you will have a hard time convincing anyone to do business with you.

So, I say this from personal experience: Don’t make the mistake of failing to take good care of your “entire” self!

1 of 2: PUBLIC SPEAKING – Acknowledge Even the Smallest Person That Helped You Succeed

In this issue, I explain why your success means nothing, if you fail to acknowledge those who helped you on your way up.

This is a pet peeve of mine.

Some people seem to believe there’s nothing wrong with using and dumping others. Funny enough majority in today’s society rarely call those they see doing it to question, or order, even when they see the signs to justify doing so.

I do NOT like it one bit.

I’m a believer in giving credit to whom it’s due – no matter what!

Whether the person is big or small, white or red, tall or short, male or female, rich or poor. Whatever s/he may be, as long as s/he was able to add useful value to ME, towards helping me get what I wanted, I WILL always tell as many others as possible about it.

Now, others may feel I’m over doing it, but I believe the best way to encourage more people to exhibit a particular kind of behaviour, is to reward it wherever and whenever it is seen.

The above mentioned is a simple rule for influencing people, and it’s been used for ages by successful people, to gain a competitive edge.

Sadly, we too often forget to apply it when it matters most, in our personal relationships. This is why we have so much distrust, mistrust, bitterness, resentment around us today.

People who have been used and dumped severally, get to the point that they start second guessing others, and stop being as willing to help as they used to.

Those who have seen good people get used and dumped also take a cue and become wary of being too willing to help others, for fear or getting exploited too.

The result is that fewer people get the help they sometimes badly need to achieve success that could end up helping MAJORITY of people in society.

You’ve probably read the life story of some famous or successful person known in the world today, who revealed that his breakthrough came when someone gave him a helping hand

It could have been a mentor who made a phone call when he was not obligated to, or even a house help who discovered a crucially important contract document that had gone missing, and was needed to close a badly needed deal.

As he saying goes, no one can be an island to him/herself. We use the expression “self-made” but one or two persons probably played roles that helped the person so described to succeed. Without such input from others, tiny it may seem on retrospect, s/he may not have made it!

That’s why successful people who are wise, acknowledge their helpers!

Now, when that person who got helped succeeds, if when asked s/he never mentions the pivotal role played by such individuals, none of his/her admirers will ever know.

That would not be a crime. But it would be an injustice, and a disincentive.

Such a person could see, for instance, the person s/he helped on TV, or the cover of a magazine, or read an interview s/he granted, but hear nothing of the role s/he played.

Instead, s/he could read and hear, for instance, the person s/he helped telling his/her story of rising from grass to grace, as if what transpired between them never happened. Or if s/he admits that it happened, s/he would refer to the person who helped him/her in the third person e.g. somebody helped me out.

It happens in obvious ways like the above described. But it also happens in more subtle ways too…

For instance, when one expert takes another experts original ideas (from the latter’s blog, books, articles, audios, videos etc), and studies them to BUILD material for his/her own work (e.g. private training/coaching of clients).

If in describing how his/her work evolved to its current state, s/he fails to mention the reference he made to the other expert’s works that would be an example of subtle occurrence.

In other words s/he would have presented it to the world as if he had no “help”.

This applies in physical as well as intellectual terms. Imagine a research paper that lists no references of major works consulted.

What I see happening a lot today, especially with the PC and Internet technology, is that those unwilling to acknowledge others, find it easy to do so using the powerful tools we now have.

Yet, giving credit will not take anything away from any achievement you record based on work done by another!

History offers ample proof that this is true.

Here’s one example…

Thomas Edison improved the light bulb. He did NOT invent it. Many people do not know this, but it’s true.

The light bulb was originally invented by another scientist, who used a metal that did not last long before disintegrating. Edison studied that scientists work, and then worked to find a better metal, till he discovered the tungsten filament.

Today, despite the fact that Edison he still enjoys great recognition for the improvement he made to it – because that improvement made it MORE useful to a larger number of people.

And that’s why giving credit to others cannot hurt you, if you come up with IMPROVED concepts, ideas or solutions based on work already done by another.

My argument therefore, is that if we form the habit of giving credit to who it’s due, we will build a society in which people readily give the best of themselves to others – unconditionally.

They will have less cause to fear that their efforts may go unrecognised after they do so.

As an expert-who-speaks, you are a potential thought leader. How you conduct your affairs in this regard can have a major impact on others.

What do you do, when you relate with friends, relatives, kids, co-workers, employees or associates?

If a colleague shares his original idea/concept/solution with you behind closed doors, which opens your eyes to new way for taking your work to the next level…

Acknowledge it. Let him/her know. That will inspire him/her to find more ways to help you.

And if you decide to use what you got from him/her in your work, PLEASE…I BEG OF YOU:

A. Do not fail to ask his/her permission to use it (especially if it’s his/her original creation).

B. And when using it, endeavour to mention/indicate who you got it from, to your audience.

Network Marketing is Globally Proven: Why I Won’t Do It In Nigeria

2 months ago (after highlighting it in my new audio DVD as a globally proven channel for Passive Income Generation), I began investigating various Network (or Multi-Level) Marketing opportunities in Nigeria’s Lagos, by attending meetings and interviewing individual members.

Sadly, what I’ve so far seen is 80% discouraging…which by MY standards is BAD!

REASON: Heavy cynicism about MLM prevails in Nigerian society, mainly due to unethical practices by many MLM practitioners in the country!

As a result, despite my belief that MLM – when done right – offers valuable passive income generating benefits, I’ve concluded that as far as doing it in Nigeria goes, Network Marketing is simply NOT worth the hassle – for ME.

In other words, even though I discussed it in my DVD as one of the proven ways used worldwide to generate life long passive income, I will NOT invest in it.

At least NOT in Nigeria.

Yep. I mean that. Seriously. But don’t get me wrong…

I’m sure there are people who are getting on well in this business in Nigeria, in spite of the problems that make me unwilling to venture into it.

However, what I’ve seen convinces me the way Network Marketing is done in Nigeria makes it more of a hard sell than it needs to be (if at all it should be).

I say the above ESPECIALLY because my primary motivation for investigating the MLM business opportunity was to help EACH of my kids get started earning passive income.

A second reason I had for considering this passive income generation model, was to support members of my clients network who had reached out to me. I wanted to help them use Network Marketing to generate additional passive income streams to complement what they earned from their various vocations.

As things stand, I’ve told my kids I’m no longer willing to pursue building a Network Marketing business in Nigeria. In addition, a link to this article has also been sent to my clients and subscribers, so they are aware of my revised opinion.

There’s just too much NMA – Negative Mental Attitude – involved in the practice of Network Marketing in the country

That’s the problem I see.

Which is why, I’ve since reached an advanced stage in exploring a completely different line of business that offers similar passive income earning benefits, but without the negatives from MLM as obtains in Nigeria.

What is this new business opportunity you ask?

I will simply provide back end technical support and periodic coaching on marketing, sales, negotiation etc.

Today, rapid advancements in PC and Internet technology make it easier, quicker and much cheaper for ANYONE to start and successfully run a profitable business.

And that includes even persons with minimal schooling. Once you can read and write, you can get started doing something to make money, if you know how.

That’s why I keep telling parents NOT to wait for their kids to go through school, before they introduce them to income earning activities – at least via micro business start up. The earlier they start the better. It can only make them better equipped to make the most of formal schooling they are exposed to.

That’s what I’ve been doing with my kids – slowly but steadily – for several years now…and I’ll have you know it is NOT an easy or straight forward process.

If you’re smart, you will start doing the same for yours as soon as possible.

When done right, it can help your child arrive adulthood equipped to function as a competent adult, especially with regard to achieving financial independence..
