A Positive Mindset, Mental Stamina, and Visualisation Will Always Lead You to Success!

In this article, I share the kind of thinking that will enable you to repeatedly overcome adversity and progress – even as an entrepreneur breaking new grounds in a very difficult environment – to pursue authentic success, with honesty and integrity.

1. Development Of A Positive Mind Set:

A lot of people out here are so good at TALKING about how to be positive in spite of failure. About how never to give up, no matter how difficult things get – or even when friends and loved ones stop believing in, or abandon you.

Yet, I can tell you, from over eight long years of personal experience (tinged with uncountable bouts of loneliness, and lack), that very few people actually apply these principles in their lives when they are faced with those difficult situations.

I am not trying to make myself look good here, but my insistence on earning a living, supporting my family, by developing MS Excel-VB driven software and web marketing systems, NEVER won me any fans amongst those who knew me.

Yet, I stayed committed. Too many people who were irked by my refusal to do something else, year in, year out, even went as far as scheming to frustrate me. I have gotten numerous phony calls and emails, from people hiding their true identities who tried to play mind games on me.

They typically pretended to be interested in my product or service, when in reality all they wanted to do was make fun of me, if I fell for it. Sometimes – especially in the early days – I did, but over time I learnt how to protect myself.

My positive mind set has kept me going this long, to the extent that today, my client profiles have taken dramatic leaps to include larger businesses, that I never stood a chance of getting noticed by, when I was starting out.

2. You Will Need Mental Stamina:

In the course of my work out here, I have studied a lot of people, and come to realise that most of them are really good people – deep down. Many do not want to be crooked in doing business. They do not really want to cheat others, if they can avoid it.

Unfortunately, they have not developed the ability to ENDURE prolonged suffering without seeking undignified outlets to escape from it.

And this is what leads them to begin cutting corners! Take it from me – it is not easy to stay straight and honest when you have nothing to fall back on. When you see your spouse and kids threatened with lack of food or other necessities, on a repeated basis, THAT CAN make you change into a not-so-good person.

This is what makes many people in Nigeria feel “tired” of fighting or resisting fuel attendants who randomly impose unlawful fines or levies on them, whenever they have to buy fuel during so called periods of scarcity. People like me who have constantly refused to give in to their demands, and who stuck to our guns even when fellow citizens criticized us for playing “holy” now enjoy the benefit of being “recognised” by those greedy attendants, and reaping the rewards of being able to buy fuel at normal rates, without paying ANYTHING extra!

That’s what mental stamina can do for you. It makes it impossible for adversity to wear you down or break your resolve or commitment to your goal. No one is born with it – you DEVELOP it. And I offer PRACTICAL, personal, and confidential coaching to help interested persons develop this important aspect of their Emotional Intelligence.

3. You Must Be Able To Visualise:

The ability to imagine what can be; to envision what is possible – regardless of what IS the current reality around you, is one that EVERY person who wishes to achieve his/her dreams MUST develop. The picture you create in your mind and/or the images that dominate your thoughts, if kept positive, and in tune with your desires or longings, will ultimately attract to you, those things you want.

This is not some fancy theory or hypothesis. It is a concept that has been proven to work in real-life for as long as man has existed. I am able to say this because I have read a book written on this subject as far back as the 1900s that attested to this fact. When you think back to the history of man’s invention of the airplane and eventual travel to space etc, you will begin to understand why this is true.

In my journey to entrepreneurial stability and maturity, I have successfully used this principle to make myself relevant and in increasingly greater demand, by my preferred target audience, for my unique range of products and services. For instance, I recently got paid N2,500 (Current exchange rate: N150 to $1.00) per article of approximately 750 words, by a client, to write sixteen (16) new articles for use in his website marketing campaign, right here in Nigeria. And this is not the first time it has happened.

Most people out here only know something like this to happen in developed societies. A lot of people out here even try to get hired to write – via the Internet – for people based in developed societies, but are often unsuccessful. What I have successfully done is to create the same lucrative market for myself right here in my country. And all it took was my ability to hold my vision, and take practical steps to actualize it.

If you want your dreams to come true – start imagining in vivid terms what exactly you want to SEE or FEEL when you achieve your dreams -and then take definite steps to work towards achieving them. It is the key to your ultimate success.

Final Words – It Starts With How You Carry Yourself

You must come across as self-assured, confident and enthusiastic to the person you approach with your product or service offer, or indeed anyone you have to interact with. And you must KNOW your stuff – or subject. This goes without saying.

One Example:

I have entertained friends and clients with the story of how, back in 2007, I entered an office in Ikeja area of Lagos, to introduce my custom spreadsheet software development service.

The owner of the company was so amused to hear me say I could develop software for him using MS Excel that he burst out laughing so many times, as I spoke. Eventually, he turned to someone seated next to him, and pointing to me said “Can you imagine him wanting to teach me Excel? I know more Excel than he knows! What can he possibly teach me?” Looking at me, with a mocking expression on his face, he said with a tone of finality “Anyway, I wish you all the best”.

All my handwritten testimonials from past clients – including two well known companies he was familiar with – did not impress him. As I left that day I had to muster all the courage I could, to avoid feeling depressed. I shook off the embarrassment of that experience, and continued my foot-solider-marketing. And it was a good thing, I did so.

Guess what happened? Before the end of that day, I had won a project to build an Excel-VB driven software for a medium sized hotel in Omole Estate, Phase 1 in Ikeja, Lagos. And I went on to sell THAT same application to another hotel in Ikeja less than ONE month after finishing it!

Looking back, I realise that it was the way I carried myself that often “won” over the clients. I always presented my offer in an engaging manner – using very graphic illustrations that instantly communicated the benefits they wanted. I NEVER let past unsuccessful sales attempts faze me one bit. THAT was the key! Anyone who wants to succeed in selling to others will need to master this ART.

One more thing:

It’s NOT necessarily how good your clothes look, but how good YOU look. Think about Arnold Schwarzenegger dressed as a barbarian. Even though he’s dressed in rags, he still looks “good” to behold. His physical presence commands attention from people of both sexes. Am I saying you should go and build muscles in order to succeed more? No, I am not.

But Zig Ziglar did let on in his writing that at some point in his salesmanship career, he decided to do more workouts to build his physique so that he could look more presentable. In my case, I have found staying physically fit not only makes me look physically good, it also helps me stay mentally sharp and alert – an asset that has paid off in terms of my being gable to deliver earlier than clients expect by working longer hours than they anticipate I can.

More importantly, the way I walk, and the fit of my body to my clothes, even when I wear the exact same ones day after day, has often helped me focus clients on ME, and my message, instead of what I am carrying or wearing.

You May Not Have The Means To Dress Well Enough:

I feel a need to hammer a little more on this point. Some people feel if they don’t have enough good clothes to wear, they will not be able to impress, and succeed. I argue that not everyone will have the means to buy good clothes, shoes etc to wear and impress those s/he wishes to win over. Sometimes, you just have to make do with what you have.

In these situations, the way you carry yourself, and how to engage the attention of your target audience will prove crucial in directing their attention to YOU, instead of what you are wearing.

Trust me on this – I HAVE been there and done just that, many more times than I can count. In fact, some of my new clients have confided in me that they hired me because they felt I “looked and sounded competent”. Now, THAT is what you want your clients to do – hire you because of the perception you have created in their minds that they will benefit by doing so!

Choosing The Right Farm Business (14 Key Factors to Consider)

Preamble

What I have said above is daily being dramatised in the lives of many people who are joining the craze of catfish farming for instance. Most simply hear that people are making “money” from catfish farming. They then decide to attend one of the many one day seminars offered by a myriad of “experts'(some don’t even bother going through this step!).

Subsequently, depending on the very sketchy – mostly introductory level – information given them, they startup their own entreprises, and discover to their shock MANY issues arise which they were never warned about by their “teacher”. If they are lucky when they ask, s/he(i.e. the “teacher”) may offer support or assistance. If they are NOT, they find themselves left high and dry.

One aspect of catfish production business out here that the scenario painted above readily applies to, is that of finding a continually READY and RELIABLE market outlet for the fingerlings and/or table size catfish you produce. Note that I refer here to an “outlet” or “outlets” that ensure(s) you can continually sell at competitive prices which guarantee you enough margins to not only stay in business, but also gradually build capacity to expand your operations.

I have seen people who went ahead and produced 5,000 or more fingerlings within the normal for 4 to 5 weeks required, only to struggle to find buyers for weeks AFTERWARDS – while having to continue FEEDING the fingerlings(incurring MORE expenses which translate to lower profit margins) long overdue for sale. This would have happened possibly because they relied on promises made by few friends and associates who claimed they would buy, as they were in need of a ready source for fingerlings to startup THEIR own farms or to “feed” existing ones they owned or had access to.

Below, I now discuss fourteen (14) important questions/issues you may need to consider so you can be better prepared to choose(& successfully startup) the right farm business.

1. What type of farm business to run: will it be livestock or crop – or a mix of both?

Are you suited for the type you want to embark on? Would you enjoy doing it daily, even when it becomes challenging?

You will need to be honest with yourself here; else you may find yourself regretting the decision to start the business when you have already pumped your hard earned money into it.

2. What farm size to operate: Will it be small, medium or large?

What specific dimensions (e.g. 100m x 100m) will be suitable for your farm enterprise – especially with consideration for future growth and expansion?

3. What methods of production and/or operation will you adopt?

This can be a function of the size of land or space available. You could choose to operate “intensive” or “extensive” for instance.

4. How much automation will you need to use – or should you use?

For catfish farming, will a recirculating system be ideal, given your resources and budget? Or will an earthen pond system suffice? Maybe you could start from the latter and graduate to the former, after gaining some experience? Same logic applies to crop farming.

5. Will you use family labour or paid labour?

Or will you use both – in different areas of your operation e.g. family members could function more in supervisory or administrative roles. Regardless of your choice of their area of operation, you must reflect wage rate for family labour whenever you use it, to avoid underestimating your expenses.

6. What will be your Credit/Capital Source?

This issue is not as straight forward as most people tend to think. Your source will often impact the way you operate the enterprise, including what you do with most of the money you make. And sometimes, you may not be too happy with what you are compelled to do with that money at some point, by those who gave you the capital or credit.

7. What is your capital profile?

This will show how much is required at each stage of production, and will often help you determine when to borrow and when not to.

8. What is your loan profile?

The problem here is often that money given as loan is NOT released as and when the farmer requires it due to administrative or bureaucratic bottlenecks on the loan giver’s side. The result is that when the farmer gets it late s/he uses it for consumption, and is consequently unable to repay.

There are therefore two dimensions to the loan issue, making it necessary to have (a) Production Loan (b) Consumption Loan.

If the farmer is to survive, and succeed in using the loan given to achieve the intended business objective, the loan giver MUST do needed adjustments to add a Consumption Loan to the Production Loan.

If this is not done, the farmer may end up spending his/her production loan. The Consumption Loan will typically be used by the farmer to take care of things like children’s school fees, books purchases etc.

When you plan to apply for a loan, put the above into consideration as it applies to you, and make a case for the Consumption Loan if appropriate.

LEARN HOW TO BORROW SMARTLY!

But how do you even know if taking a loan with the interest rate to be charged by the loan provider will be worthwhile? Is there a way to calculate up front and determine reasonably accurately, whether the business you intend to apply the loan to CAN yield enough returns to match the interest rate you have to pay, leaving enough for you to profit on?

9. What is the proper time to produce?

This is quite important for agricultural enterprises. In fact, I would say it is the number ONE (1) issue you MUST consider! Without establishing a reliable marketing/sales outlet (s) for your intended produce, you stand a great risk of ending up with harvested or matured products without ANY buyers being available.

If you are too early or too late in starting production, you could lose out completely – depending the kind of venture you are engaged in. For instance, taking advantage of early rains could be crucial to getting a good maize harvest.

10. What is the proper time to market and WHERE?

One of the keys to business success has been given as speculating correctly about when to market, and where. Most people in broiler production for instance, time their marketing towards the holidays (Christmas etc), because outside such festive periods, broilers tend to command less market value.

The farmer who is most tuned in to market trends, knows where to find buyers, and when/where the prices are lowest, highest etc.

Like I mentioned elsewhere, it has been stated that the educated farmer is one who knows the difference between January and June, as it pertains to making income from sales of his/her products.

11. How will you get the land you will use?

This is important because how you get it will determine how you can use it, or what you can do with it. For instance, if you do NOT own the land, you may not be able to start a tree crop plantation, such as cocoa or rubber on it – for obvious reasons: the owner may have other plans, and may not like the idea of having his/her land tied down for decades in that manner.

12. How will you deal with entry of competition?

Just like you are considering starting this farm business, someone else may just be thinking the same thing. One or more of such “others” may in future, after you have started yours, decide to do the same thing. What will you have in place to ensure you maintain a competitive edge over those who come in to get a piece of your market share?

13. What type of building, water system (e.g. dam, borehole, and well) etc will you use on the farm?

This will influence the type of farm enterprise you can successfully run. For instance, when rearing delicate livestock like catfish fingerlings, the water quality/integrity must be constantly reliable. This makes use of a borehole, possibly with some intermediate treatment unit essential.

14. You will have to take/bear responsibility for your actions, and decision making.

No matter how many people you consult and get ideas from about producing or marketing/selling your farm produce, YOU alone will ultimately have to deal with the outcome of your farm decision making.

As the top decision maker, the buck WILL ALWAYS rest on your table.

This is why you must do a lot of thinking about the above outlined issues well ahead of your farm business start up, so that you can better prepare yourself to take the decisions that will position your farm business to succeed in the long term.

No. 181: To Achieve Selling Success, Always Have Products You Can “Gift” Away

Do you want buyers of your products or services to always depart feeling it’s good to buy from you? If YES, I ALWAYS make them feel they got more than they paid for. If you wonder how to  do this without losing money, I explain HOW I DO IT successfully, below!

A Warning: Two Mistakes You Should Seriously Avoid…

There will be exceptions, of course, but generally, if you want to use the ideas I share here, you MUST avoid doing a. and b. outlined below, otherwise you’ll end up short-changing yourself.

a. Do NOT use your services to give people more than they pay for.

They often require your being present and involved. Or if it’s an automated service, they typically require use of some resource you have to pay for or maintain. Either way, you still incur avoidable costs. Anything that makes that happen is NOT healthy for use in the system I propose you adopt.

b. Do NOT use products that you have to SPEND (or have spent) money from your pockets to acquire to make buyers feel they are getting more than they pay for.

I know. I know. People do it all the time. I just happen to be a bit puritanical in my views about being cost-effective. I simply refuse to accept that I should spend EXTRA money to make someone feel good about buying from me.

That option eats over time into my profits, in the long run. “Me wanna” keep as much of my income earned as PROFIT RETAINED in my pockets of bank account that I can spend without worry :-)

Now, Here’s How to Do It, Based On My Hard Won Experience Doing It Successfully

It took me years of trial and error to get it right. So what I share with you now has been refined to ensure you spend much less time wondering what you’re doing wrong.

Note however, that you will still have to refine it to find what works for you. If you need help let me know…click.

Now, you don’t have to agree with either of the above “don’ts” that I listed…

But if you really want to get the kinds of results I get (which enable me reap over 90% of income I earn as tangible profits), I recommend you try hard to abide by them as often as possible.

Right, on to the meat of the subject…HOW YOU CAN DO IT!

Let me ask this…

How would you feel if you bought books from a certain website or online store, up to a certain value (say N5,000) and they included a bonus product (ebook, audio/video) on a similar theme?

What if you then learned (say via auto responder or weekly newsletter) that buying more products from that same company or individual, would earn you access to other free bonus products if you purchased up to a certain value (say N10, 000)?

Would that not make you frequently look for ways to do any shopping you want to do at such a place, anytime your needs match the products or services on offer there?

This happens regularly offline with physical products/brick and mortar companies – especially large companies.

For instance you find a pretty looking pen in the packet of toothpaste you buy…or a toy your child falls in love with.

The mistake I see most of us making however is that we assume (VERY WRONGLY too!) that it’s only big companies that can afford to give stuff away, to buyers.

We forget there are NO RULES about what you can give (or more appropriately “GIFT”) away to buyers and WHO can do it!

This is true for individuals and businesses of all sizes.

Like Michel Fortin so wisely noted in his 10 Commandments of Power Positioning (Did you Google and download that wonderful ebook yet???) – Marketing is about PERCEPTION.

That’s what you’re really dealing with when you engage in the marketing act…

You are trying to INFLUENCE the perception of your target audience, so they “feel” that buying from YOU would be better for them than buying from anyone else who offers what you do!

So, to sell successfully, what you need to do is identify what your target audience PERCEIVES to be VALUABLE or WORTHY of their attention, interest and ultimately their MONEY!

Once you succeed in creating a product that communicates that benefit to them, you are halfway there.

Why halfway you say?

You probably expected I would say you would be (to borrow from the Americans) “home free”!

Well, I say “halfway” because potential buyers may indeed perceive that your product/service is right for them, but human beings can be so fickle minded at the same time.

Dazzling advertising or promotional campaigns from your competitors, who probably offer LESS value than you do, CAN still make people change their minds.

Remember the saying: “Not all that glitters is Gold”? It’s relevant because people tend to”follow” (and “fall for”) for Bright Shiny Objects or “glittering” stuff…which can sometimes be used by con artists!

Only AFTER they’ve gone the wrong way do they then develop “buyer remorse”.

In your case (and I say this assuming you are LIKE me, one who NEVER cheats others) those who stay focussed are unlikely to ever experience that dreadful emotion…

You certainly do NOT want anyone who does business with you to feel that way by the time you separate –otherwise you may find yourself running out of places you can “market” whatever it is you sell without getting told to “buzz off”!

So, what’s the “other half” you need to complete your compelling offer to buyers then…?

It is for you to find a way to add LOTS of GIFT “icings” on your “products/services” cake.

As earlier stated, these will have to be items that will ideally cost you ZERO monetarily, and which will take you minimal effort to deliver to the buyer, along with the item purchased.

Note also that it is best that you find a sustainable way to constantly create additional versions of such products, always with potential to be perceived useful by prospective buyers. That way, you will always have MORE news stuff you can GIFT away, to entice them to buy.

In well over a decade of using this strategy, I have found that digital “gifts” are best used to achieve the above described goal.

All you need to do is develop creative ways to package and present those “GIFT” products – but they must have INHERENT useful value to the intended recipient, otherwise this would backfire.

In my case I use my continually growing library of digital information products (which include e-book versions of paper back publications I sell), and customizable Excel-VB driven software products.

One could say I’m lucky that most of what I sell, and the items I “GIFT” away are digital.

I would however point out that nothing stops YOU from providing digital “gifts” to complement products/services you deliver to buyers as well. Indeed, that IS what I recommend, in this article, that you DO!

Doing it makes my costs really looooow…and that boosts my ability to retain most of what I earn as profits. As a result, I can afford to be quite generous in GIVING such gifts …plus, the high return rate boosts my enthusiasm to do more :-))

Little wonder that I continue to churn out MORE write-ups (which I compile into information products).

I also continue to create new custom Excel-VB driven software – like my Poultry Farm Manager , Ration Formulator, and Payslip Generator (carefully gauging what to do based on enquiries I get from my target audience) to add to what exists.

The above makes it is practically impossible for buyers, prospects or subscribers to ever find my range of offerings OBSOLETE. By the time they come back tomorrow, or a week after, there’s new stuff to be had!

To put it simply, the very nature of all that I do goes against every possible meaning of the word, OBSOLETE!

In actual fact, this adopted strategy makes it literally impossible for anyone to claim to have seen ALL that I have to offer.

Why?

I continue to create new stuff, every day, and I do it almost without trying (believe me!).

In other words, what I have to offer is perpetually yet-to-be-created aka MY NEXT PRODUCT!

Example: Just yesterday, I churned out a new write-up based on a true story, that PERFECTLY demonstrates how I apply the ideas I have shared above…

You see, the screenshot shown below, of my Ten Storyfied Proverbs audio book DVD(click to watch 4 min playback), that I sold to the banker mentioned in the article, depicts custom menu buttons linking PDF versions of 3 other products I gave her as FREE bonuses.

Screenshot shown below, of my Ten Storyfied Proverbs audio book DVD(click to watch 4 min playback), that I sold to the banker mentioned in the article, depicts custom menu buttons linking PDF versions of 3 other products I gave her as FREE bonuses.- Click now to view larger image

If you check my online store 2 of the products I gave away are actually on sale in my online store…

Here’s why….

Because I CAN…and it costs me NOTHING extra to do so, YET at the same time, doing so enables me to create the impression of increase in the mind of the buyer.

Interestingly, since this is a habit I’ve always had (i.e Going The Extra Mile aka GTEM), I’d always displayed it unknowingly, everwhere I went.

Unknown to me, some people were taking note. This lady banker turned out to be one such person who’d seen me act that way waaaay back in 2002

No wonder she sent back the email below…!

And this was her final response, upon receicing the DVD pack I dropped off for here... - Click now to view larger image

Click here to read the full story – with verbatim email transcripts/screenshots. It’s titled “To succeed As a Role Model Be True to Yourself (True Story)

Another Example: Last week, I launched my NEW DVD titled “Effective strategies for Saving Lots of Money Starting/Running a Poultry Farm business

…and I already I have a member of my Inner Circle who has ordered it. He gets 11 audio presentations AND, as promised in THIS PDF preview, he also gets my Ration Formulator and Poultry Farm Manager, as well as my 1,700 Poultry Layer Farm Business Plan on the same DVD.

These 3 bonuses total approx. N150,000 – One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira by normal prices – see details on this sales page)!

Now, I’m NOT crazy …there is strategy to this “madness” of mine…:-))

You see, I’m doing this to put out the new product and get buyers saying just how loaded it is with priceless insights about SAVING MONEY in starting up and running a poultry farm.

Since the products are digital and I already have a comfortable base or users, doing this again costs me NOTHING in monetary terms. And effort wise, it takes only 10 to 15 minutes to personalize the products.

Having said that, any moment from now, I might double the price, and the value to be had via the FREE bonuses would still make it worthwhile!

See how this works???

Final Words: Invest your creative brain energy, time and effort to create mainly digital products that can “complement” whatever product or service you sell

Ahem…it goes without saying that you NEED to have such products of your own, to be able to do anything like what I propose here.

So, if you’re interested in using the ideas I’ve shared here, you need to get started “creating” some…

BUT make sure those you choose do NOT cost you any extra money to deliver, along with whatever is purchased from you.

Do this right, and you will find those who buy from you rarely ever want to leave, while others who discover you arrive frequently eager to buy!

To succeed As a Role Model Be True to Yourself (True Story)

Last week, I had an interesting telephone/email based exchange with a lady banker who called about purchasing my “Ten Storyfied Yoruba Proverbs for Children” audio book DVD. It turned out she knew me from way back in 2002, my startup year, when we both served with an NGO as volunteer tutors. In addition to buying my DVD, she had some VERY nice things to say to me, about me, with regard to how I’d influenced her without knowing it.

1. After our phone conversation, in response to my request, she sent in the formal email below, requesting my account details…

Hi Taiye,

Thanks for your phonecall. It was great speaking with you.

Find payment details below:

<removed>

It appears I mis-heard you, when we spoke earlier, as I’d assumed you wanted to pick up the DVD from the <removed> address I mentioned.

But from your Victoria Island delivery address, and your descriptive notes, it’s obvious you want it dropped off for you on the Island.

2 options:

A. Let me know if it’s possible to have it dropped off for you at your Ikeja office – I imagine you have an internal mail system that can get it to you.

B. Include extra payment to cover hand delivery to you in VI by a young man I can send over…or for dispatch via Fedex from here in Ikeja to you.

Note that I’m not sure how much either will be. For Fedex, I’ve only done inter state dispatches to buyers of my ExcelVB apps across the country.

Lastly, I’ll get back to you regarding my On-Demand learning events tomorrow.

Thanks for your interest in my work. It is gratifying to know that you find what I’m doing of useful relevance.

With kindest regards,

Thank you for the kind gesture.

For ease, I will prefer delivery at the Victoria Island Head Office. I plan to include NGN2,000 (if this covers his cost) for the delivery by the gentleman you would send.

§ Please should I credit your account with NGN7,000 being NGN5,000 for the pack and NGN2,000 for delivery? Or credit your account with NGN5,000 and pay the gentleman cash (NGN2,000) on delivery?

§ Kindly confirm, does the package include a book & DVD? Or I need to make payment for the book separately?

I look forward to reading your content, I wish I could get it today. I must confess that you inspired me while volunteering at years back at . I was also a volunteer but your sense of responsibility, discipline and passion for what you did made a lasting impression on me, Thank you so much for ‘silently’ teaching me some of those values which has helped me to be a better me.

Make the entire payment into the account.

The book comes on the DVD as a PowerPoint Slideshow with clickable links to the audio files.

You will be able to copy the audio MP3 files from the DVD to your phone or MP3 player. That’s how my kids use them(I bought each child an MP3 headset with rechargeable battery. Then they also have a box like player which uses a card reader with rechargeable battery).

Now, if you want the book in printed and spiral bound form, you will have to include an extra N3k, so I can prepare that and send it in a larger envelope along with the DVD containing the Slideshow and audio versions.

Regarding getting it today, if it was not for the erratic Lagos traffic, one could be sure of getting the hand delivery done today. Indeed, back in Cotonou, I readily commit to tight meeting and delivery deadlines. My Lagos experiences have however taught me to temper my enthusiasm with realism.

It’s 3.30p.m now.

Let’s see what can be done. If it does not reach you today, you’ll definitely have it tomorrow a.m.

Tayo
PS:

A. I send every buyer of this Proverbs book a FREE PDF copy of my new Best Practice Parenting paperback book titled “Kukuru Danger”. See it on sale in my online store at www.lulu.com/sdaproducts

Buyer name is printed on the PDF book cover, with a message from me, thanking him/her for buying my Storyfied Proverbs book.

B. I must thank you for your kind compliments. I never realized I was being so closely observed! Glad to know you found my conduct worthy of emulation. May we continue to add useful value to one another.

Cheers,

7. Due to unexpected developments, I ended up belatedly, having to decide to hand-deliver the DVD by myself…and luckily, I made it on time…below is the email I sent after returning to the mainland.

As I noted in the message, it was actually the first time I was visitng the Island since 1st April 2013, when I left Lagos for Cotonou.

Handed over to Aina at reception, as you requested.

A few notes…

The DVD is setup to autorun. Just insert and let it load the custom navigation menu.

The menu buttons open the documents or links indicate.

When the PowerPoint book show opens, each slide will autoplay the relevant audio narrative.

Speaker icons provided are clickable and enable you replay each audio narrative, as well as the clips of my kids reading out the proverbs.

A menu button provided opens the folder on the DVD, in which all the audio files are stored. From there you can copy them to your memory card, PC/laptop, phone or other device.

If you need any help, let me know, and it would be my pleasure to provide it.

In your service,

Tayo
PS: It was Interesting that you called me just as I arrived the “mail room”, where Aina had directed me from the reception…

When eventually I got back to him, I asked him to let you know the branded label for the proverbs package DVD could not be printed to the finish quality, in colour, that I wanted. The late opening of business centres today made trying to find a better service elsewhere impractical.

I’m a stickler for adhering to challenging standards, and also for keeping promises I make.

So, I chose to NOT use a shabby label, plus when a 2nd chap (who I’m coaching on Web Marketing) that I’d hoped to have drop off you pack told me he would not be available till 3p.m, I knew I had to drop it off myself and return without getting stuck in the famous Island traffic…

It may interest you to know that this is the first time I’ve visited the Island, since relocating to Benin Republic on 1st April 201(3).

Good Afternoon sir.

I have been in a meeting. I must confess that I truly appreciate your kind gesture in going an extra mile to keep to your word.

To be honest, after speaking with you (before rushing into the meeting) and you said you were downstairs, I told myself that you are still the same Mr. Solagbade that keeps to his word. I said that because of a few encounter I have had with you in the past. Interestingly, you ‘indirectly’ taught me one core value I have upheld… Discipline.

I still teach at . Over the years, I have taught my young friends/students the importance of that Life Lesson your taught me (it is easy for me live by this because you taught me by your ACTION unknowingly) and this forms one of my 3 Core Values. Thank you.

Once again, thank you so much for your kind gesture.

Regards,
Taiwo

And this was her final response, upon receicing the DVD pack I dropped off for here... - Click now to view larger image

By the way, here’s what she got…in case you’re wondering…

The auto run DVD she got contains a slide show version of the proverbs book, with auto playing audio narratives in my voice, and click able audio clips icons that playback the voices of some of my kids reciting the proverbs.

My kids enjoy listening to it.

The MP3 files can be copied from the DVD to phones and other media.

In fact my mother (grandma to the kids) made me copy them to her phone so she could listen, especially to the kids reciting the proverbs.

I’m having connectivity issues uploading, so the following 2 items will come LIVE in this article tomorrow morning…

1. A screen shot of the DVD’s branded navigation menu, which is always personalized for the owner will be embedded below tomorrow…

For now, click here to view a copy on Facebook…

proverbs-storeyfied-DVD

2. A short Youtube clip showing the DVD in use will be embedded below tomorrow…

The DVD sells for N5k, and comes with PDF versions of some other books I’ve published as FREE bonuses. Buyer just pays courier fee.

[NB: Read this article (click) in which I first announced this proverbs learning product for sale. It’s available in my online store as a PDF. Those who want the Slideshow audio book version with clickable links to MP3 files, that’s delivered on DVD have to send me a message for details of how to get it using THIS form (click)]

I had to take a last minute decision to deliver it myself, to avoid disappointing her, when the young chaps I’d planned to send down could not make it.

I visited Fedex, at 11a.m in their Allen office, but they told me next day delivery in Lagos costs N500, but same day delivery would cost N8k. I’d not known that in 2 years of using their service, since I’d never had a same day delivery client order!

At this point, only ONE other option was left.

So, after sorting out work I had to finish, I took a BRT bus at close to 3p.m down to CMS. Soon as I alighted, by some wonderful “coincidence” a commercial power bike rider called out to me (there were 2 of them, so I got to choose). I promptly agreed to his N300 fee when he said he could get me through bad traffic to the lady’s her VI office on time for me to RETURN to mainland without getting stuck in the crazy traffic jams for which that area of Lagos are famous. True to his word, he did – see email below!

LESSON to Take Away: The above highlight emphasis (circled in red in the screen shots) is deliberate.

There are 2 key lessons I believe one can draw from this story….

First, it’s the fact that the web marketing strategies I advocate can enable anyone with diligent perseverance, successfully monetize any useful information or knowledge s/he has.

Think about it. I now sell my DVD Yoruba Proverbs book and audio files…!

I know many who thumbed their noses at the idea when I first muted it…they are not laughing now I tell you…lol!

But here’s the more important lesson to be had from this exciting experience that happened in a window of 24 hours…

Taiye, the buyer, had told me during her first phone call that she knew me from back when I (like her) was a volunteer maths tutor for a project sponsored by a very well organized Nigerian NGO. The NGO’s project mainly helped secondary school students with FREE maths and english tutorials in their final year.

The problem was that I struggled to recall her face, even though the name rang a faint bell…but I did not tell her that :-)

When she went on to say the above (and more in her final thank you email post-receipt of the package), I realized how important her feedback was, and why it was important for me to WRITE about it, for others to read.

You see, I believe her words – which basically amount to an “unsolicited testimonial” confirm that it pays to be true to yourself at all times.

Seek to add value with honesty and integrity at all times.

You never know who will be watching and drawing inspiration from your selfless efforts.

Like the popular saying goes: “Be The Change You Want to See In The World!

That was what I did back then, that she saw and chose to emulate. That’s why I continue to do today, that has NOW made her buy my latest information product…and that NOW makes her even more inspired than ever, to go and do MORE of what she learned.

If more of us did this, our societies would become much better places than they are today. It only takes EACH person making up his/her mind to begin…

Will you?

Teaching My Nigerian kids to make American style Easter Eggs (Hint: Why You Need to Teach Your Kids MORE Than What They Learn In School)

This photo shows a new set of “experimental” or “practice” Easter Eggs made by my kids, in our Lagos home, based on a movie we watched, and other learning resources I compiled for them. Our plan is to produce special Easter Eggs to give out during Easter to buyers of cakes, doughnuts and chin chin the kids will make and offer for sale.

This photo shows a new set of

We’ve added more products to the range of pineapple peel based cakes baked without an oven, and the drinks also made using the peels, that I began making in Cotonou

See photos and details on this page (click to view)…

I’ve been screaming in my best practice parenting articles and the book (Kukuru Danger – see www.lulu.com/sdaproducts) that parents are BEST positioned to give their kids the balanced EDUCATION they need to succeed in the real world.

It so happens that I diligently and passionately practice what I preach with my own children, and that includes teaching them life skills and more recently academic subjects (maths, english etc) in a formal home schooling arrangement.

Why am I going so out of the way to do all this?

First, it’s because I’ve found that the quality of teaching provided in most conventional schools today, which greatly depends on the quality of available teachers, has dropped waaay beyond the point that I can afford to do otherwise.

And this trend, in most cases, remains the same regardless of the fees paid in each institution. The decay began decades ago, and now the school system is suffering the effects. On top of that the curriculum taught by most conventional schools is increasingly obsolete, and out of sync with the needs of today’s society.

In my audio series titled “A Formula Schools Should Teach But Don’t: Why Brilliant Students Struggle to Succeed In the Real World”…I stated that the “schooling” I got failed me, WHEN I went beyond the controlled environment of paid employment, to become self employed.

That experience, which is not unique to me, confirms what has been said that formal schooling as originally conceived is geared towards preparing its products to enter salaried employment.

To find the success I increasingly enjoy today, I’ve had to DUMP a lot of what I learnt via formal schooling and learn via self tutoring what I discovered to be crucial for achieving reliable long term success in life.

My painful journey to find success made me VOW TO GIVE MY KIDS THE KIND OF BALANCED EDUCATION THAT WOULD PROTECT THEM FROM SUFFERING AFTER SCHOOLING like I did!

That’s why I’m coaching them to learn and operate a complementary set of micro businesses under the umbrella of a FAMILY BUSINESS we will all be a part of.

Look at the teeming numbers of young people who – post formal academic schooling – are walking the streets in search fast vanishing jobs, with certificates in hand today…

Consider the fact that graduates and NYSC members are now being asked to take entrepreneurship classes…

Add to the above, the fact that even employees are now being challenged to think and act entrepreneurial, if they want to retain their jobs…

They all provide definite signs that empowering your kids the way I propose is the best way to really show that you love them.

Sending them to some expensive fancy school alone may not be enough to prepare for reliable lifetime success within or outside paid employment!

Valentine’s day, celebrated TODAY, is about LOVE. If you really LOVE your kids, I urge you to give serious consideration to what I’ve said above, and ACT to give your kids a better chance at success.

A Warning: What I propose is NOT popular, and doing it is likely to make those who know you criticize you at some point. Trying to do things differently from the majority, often causes that to happen.

Here’s something to encourage you:

In the long run, when the POSITIVE benefits begin to accrue from your actions taken with a long term real world relevant vision in mind, the same critics WILL turn round and applaud you.

Trust me…I’ve been there countless times, and I KNOW from personal experience, that this is true.

Happy Valentines Day!

To Make More Profitable Sales, Educate Your Prospects and Clients!

Educating your clients to make them willing to pay the price you put on your product/service, is one task that every business owner should take seriously – especially given the intensity of competition out there in today’s business marketplace.

Think about it for a moment. Toothpaste brands proliferate in the market, and even for those of us who are loyal to certain brands, one cannot deny feeling the “temptation” every now and then to try out some new brand that’s offering something extra or new – such as a special breath cleansing or tooth whitening formula.

Quite often we would have chosen to stick with our favorite brand because of what we know – or think we know – about it. The reality however is that most times what we “know” would be based on what the maker of our chosen brand has told us on the tube or the wrapping, as well as any adverts they may have placed in the media.

The problem however is that every product or service provider uses these kinds of marketing methods mentioned above, and so, there is the danger that it all begins to sound the same, or that we – the buyers – may get so overwhelmed with the mass of information being thrown at us, that we subconsciously stop listening, watching or reading.

That’s why the business owner who wishes to constantly get paid CONSCIOUS purchase making attention by his/her target audience will need to invest quality time and effort into making them PERCEIVE that s/he offers useful EDUCATION that can help them intelligently make choices that truly benefit THEM.

S/he will do this KNOWING that his/her product or service already has the features that will make it get considered by appropriately educated prospects as the RIGHT choice for the price it is offered at.

Three (3) Steps To Educating Prospects, and/or Customers

What follows below is an explanation of steps you can follow, in the process of educating people who fit your target audience profile, towards getting them to do business with you.

Note that the ideas described here can be applied during sales/marketing conversations with individual or group audiences. They can also be applied in developing your sales/advertising and marketing communication (flyers, posters, articles, website copy, ebooks, special reports, bulletins, press releases etc).

At the bottom of each step, I have provided personal examples of how I applied it(i.e. THAT step) in interacting with the owners of a popular radio and TV show, until they hired me to develop/implement a web marketing system for their company.

1. Offer Proof That You Understand Their Needs: You need to spend time THINKING about what makes people feel a need for your type of product or service.

Be sure to identify as many as possible variants of the needs that different people may experience, that will cause them to want your solution. This should not be difficult – since you are a provider of a possible solution!

If you do it right, it will show in your sales/marketing conversations (in physical meetings with them) as well as your written communication – e.g. website copy. This is because you will be able to TALK and WRITE about these identified needs from the perspective of the potential customer. It will boost your chances of convincing prospects and/or clients that you truly understand their needs.

My Example:

As an active listener on their show, I would send SMS messages suggesting that they boost their marketing reach and impact by adopting an Internet website presence.

I did this about 3 times over the course of three months – timing my messages to logically coincide with issues that came up during the live show. Note that I NEVER offered to do it for them – I only told them they needed to do it, so as to achieve MORE than they were doing at the time.

2. Suggest Practical Ways They Can Accurately Assess Similar Products/Services:

People often need to be sure they are getting the best bargain for the money they are spending. That’s why this second step is important. That’s also why it comes BEFORE you tell the prospect or client about YOUR proffered solution (in step 3)!

You see, any person you want to “sell” to is very likely to be more willing to give you a chance, if you do not come across as the typically “pushy” salesman. Do the opposite of what they are used to: tell them HOW to intelligently find the right product/service they need. Then leave them to use the information you have provided to find and CHOOSE you over others.

To do this in a way that adds value to the prospect or client, simply choose a number of key offerings in the market that fall into the same category as your product/service, and identify their strong/weak points with respect to their ability to deliver the solution sought by buyers.

Using your knowledge/insight as an “expert” in the field, explain to the prospective buyer what s/he should look for, in order to be sure of making the right purchase, for the invested money. What is likely to happen AFTER s/he has heard or read your useful guidelines – at the least – is that s/he will come to see you as a source of reliable expert information, that aids prudent decision making.

My Example: One day, they announced they had launched a website. I promptly visited it, and within 15 minutes of looking around, decided to write them an email outlining specific modifications or additions they could make to it, to get better results.

I did this because my examination revealed that too many features were missing from the site – things that could ensure they got optimal results that they needed: RESPONSES from visitors to the site!

Once again, I did NOT offer to do it for them. Instead, I told them to pass my ideas on to their webmaster so s/he could consider my proposals for possible “usefulness” and apply where appropriate.

3. Tell Them How Your Product/Service SOLVES Their Problem:

Your demonstrated insight into their needs (from 1. above), and your willingness to STEP ASIDE and let them consider possible alternatives to YOU(in 2. above), will be your most potent weapon for “selling” yourself successfully to your target audience.

In this step, you will again start by THINKING of what makes your product or service an effective and reliable solution to their need(s). As was the case in step 1, this should not be a problem for you, because you OWN the product – even if you are a reseller, you MUST KNOW enough about how it works to solve the problem your intending buyer wishes to be rid of.

Doing the above advised “thinking” will equip you to TELL your prospect and/or client how your product or service will help him/her. Remember at all times to focus on painting a picture of the desired end in the mind of your listener – or reader. What s/he wants to achieve is what you MUST demonstrate that your product or service can HELP with. Fail to do this, and you are very unlikely to get hired!

My Example:

Some days later, they replied my mail commending me for the good ideas/suggestions, but expressing a desire to meet with me on the possibility of a collaboration to implement them. Now this was what I wanted, but I was keen to be sure they truly knew how I could make a difference for them.

So, when we met, I offered to prepare a detailed web marketing system development proposal they would read, and use, without needing my input. Indeed, after 2 meetings, I suggested they let their own webmaster try using additional ideas (including website resources) I found to do it for them, so they would not have to hire me. (YES, that’s what I did!)

Over two months later, they came back to hire me – with the marketing director stating that apart from the obvious “sense” I made in the web marketing proposal I prepared, what won him over was the selfless manner in which I readily gave up all my own ideas and information to their webmaster, even though I knew it could mean my NOT getting hired, if the latter succeeded!

Summary – Educating Them Influences Their PERCEPTION of YOU, Positively!

The above outlined steps, if carefully applied, will lead the prospective client to PERCEIVE you as the most logical choice over others s/he may be considering. There is nothing better than establishing TRUST and CREDIBILITY in the mind of your intending buyer. The minute people believe you are competent, reliable and honest, they are very likely to readily part with their hard earned money when they need products or services you offer.

And that’s what the ideas I have shared above will help you achieve. It would interest you to know that I have successfully gotten Nigerian clients to pay me handsomely to deliver my very unconventional products/services (e.g. custom spreadsheet software, article writing, website marketing systems development, print-on-demand publishing etc) to them using these same methods.

If I can do it here in Nigeria, then you can too – anywhere you may be, within or outside Nigeria!

You Need “Indigenous Knowledge Systems” to Achieve Farm Business Success at Less Cost (DVD Preview)

Do you NOT desire to REAP profitable returns on the money you spend?

If YES, then I recommend you form the healthy habit of actively pursuing Variable Cost Reduction as a strategy in your farm business.

This DVD presentation discusses concepts, ideas and practices you can adopt.

If you incur avoidable EXPENSES in starting or running your farm business, you’ll make it more difficult for yourself to break even.

So why do that?

The harsh truth is that what is considered normal in starting or running poultry farm businesses, especially on the small to medium business scale is out here in Nigeria especially, is based on a narrow  range of options defined by mutual consent between certain "experts", support specialists, and a few influential Farm Business Owners in conjunction with vendors that serve them.

In other words, a lot of the available knowledge and information has not really been tested and refined to the point of ensuring that it affords a Farm CEO the most cost-effective and efficient way to start-up and operate his/her enterprise.

Indeed, up till today, the Nigerian poultry (in fact the entire livestock farming) industry suffers a severe dearth of crucially essential Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data.

As a result, so much confusion exists as to what is possible, and how best to go about establishing and operating a profitable enterprise.

To make matters worse, the lack of SOPs to guide owners/farm hands in most privately run ventures continues to lead many aspiring and existing businesses to take avoidable wrong turns, which often times costs them in terms of excess money, time, effort and resources they end up expending.

Due to the above, what exists today in the Poultry Farm Industry is mostly a disorganized collection of independently run enterprises, operating often haphazardly, such that recording sustainable performance output on a predictable basis is hard to ensure.

In other words, the element of luck and chance plays too much of an influential role in the outcomes they record.

Only few farm businesses have a firm understanding of their operations that enables them achieve repeatable and reproducible farm production and selling success.

As a Best Practice Farm Business Support Specialist, I bring over a decade of experience delivering performance enhancing workplace organization solutions, coupled with development of Enterprise Information Systems (custom Excel-VB apps) to facilitate timely decision making for profitable farm management, to serve my clients.

My passion for problem solving, and for developing unique, home grown solutions that save money, effort and time, drive me to actively explore, investigate and document Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) to help even the most disadvantaged farmer, and those aspiring, achieve their  goals, within the limits of their budgets.

In most areas of life, success often comes mainly from a change in the THINKING employed by people about the activity they are engaged in.

Indeed, all over the world, man has routinely and repeatedly improved his fortunes by changing the thinking process used.

In farm business, the rule is no different. It works just the same.

The revelations I share in this DVD presentation confirm the above.

[NEW DVD] Effective strategies for Saving Lots of Money Starting/Running a Poultry Farm business

If YOU nurse the dream of starting a poultry farm business, but have been discouraged by start-up costs supposedly required, THIS new DVD information product CAN help you.

In it, I explain HOW you can (and WHY you should) intelligently start &/or run your dream poultry farm business at much LESS than the generally known costs….PLUS how you can operate MORE profitably and reap REAL profits in LESS time than most others who venture into the business.

My information has been obtained from serving/relating closely with, and studying real life practising poultry farm business owners (who are everyday people like you and me) for years.

Many had to start small (500 birds or less) and on a part time basis, due to limited funds before they gradually expanded their flock sizes to what they are today (5,000 or more).

To get where they are, they had to improvise many times in vaious areas of their businesses, to avoid incurring excess costs, so as to remain profitable.

The process of exploring ways to save money to get desired results, helped them discover little known techniques not mentioned in formal literature, but which, under smart management conditions work exceptionally well!

In the last 9 months, I’ve been hired to prepare business plans for both broiler and layer farm start-up operations in Nigeria.

Due to my penchant for being thorough, I have gone out of my way during each project implementation, to gather additional real life farm operations and market data, so as to give the client a better basis on which to review the formal plan.

Indeed, last week, I travelled to Ibadan, with a long time client (who is looking to retire from city based consultancy service provision into a quite Poultry Farm based income earning vocation) to visit several poultry farms, with the owners as our hosts.

A lot of what we saw convinced me I needed to PUSH harder in my preaching about the need for farm CEOs to find what works for them, and not blindly follow what others (or even the “books” or university/research “experts”) say is the way to do it.

Why?

Well, it’s because finding what works for you, going by what I know from my own business experiences, and also from what many farm owners who have gone the same way have told me, enables YOU find cheaper and more efficient ways to achieve profitability.

In Agricultural Extensions Services, we refer to this as Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)…

Due to the presence of IKS, even the so called “experts” periodocally find it useful to stoop and LEARN from farm owners, in order to understand how the latter routinely get the results that textbooks say are not possible, or are hard to achieve.

In this home study DVD package, I outline and discuss key areas I have found, from my extensive investigation of farm businesses, which offer unique opportunities for existing, or start-up farm businesses to use IKS, to save substantial sums of money, and/or generate additional income streams beyond what they earn from direct sales of farm produce.

Whether you plan to start-up or already run a farm, the information and ideas I share on this DVD, with photos take from real life farms used for my explanations, WILL open your eyes to aspects you NEVER imagined you could exploit.

I narrate true stories and describe specific examples of what you can do, and how you can do it, to achieve the benefits mentioned.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I’ll stick my neck out and say the following, based on what I have seen in working with Farm CEO clients for YEARS:

Anyone who wants to improve his/her chances of success in the poultry business, especially if you have a limited budget (and want to minimize indebtedness by way of “loans”) will find it worthwhile listening FIRST to this DVD presentation…BEFORE going out to buy or prepare a business plan, and definitely BEFORE starting the business proper!

dvd-b4-bizplan

Information is power…especially when it is put to productive use.

Don’t start your poultry farm business without FIRST getting crucial information that will educate you to make the right decisions to boost your chances of success.

This new DVD presentation offers that. The truth is nothing else exists in the market like it. Most farm support experts readily recommed the same conventional approach to starting and running poultry farms. Buy cages, get a borehole sunk etc – most of which are NOT cheap to do.

I explain, in this DVD how many smart thinking farm CEOs have developed cost-effective alternative ways that work, to get around these high cost aspects. And I offer tips about how you can do the same, and where to do so.

Every buyer gets access to ask me questions about any areas s/he needs more details or requires clarification.

I have access to a growing network of Farm CEO Clients who readily give me information when I ask.

As a buyer of this product, I will support you with access to such sources, in addition to my unique best practice insights for profitable farm business management and products marketing.

Introductory price: N50k (It comes bundled with a real life 1,700 bird Poultry Layer Farm Business plan).

I can tell you that having a business plan, no matter how well prepared will do you little good, if you do NOT have access to the kind of information I have put together in this DVD presentation. It provides you deep insights that will open your eyes to several ways to operate your enterprise, without spending as much money as most business plan experts or conventional thinking farm business owners will tell you.

To Succeed Authentically, Adopt a Win-Win Mentality

Some people – especially when they are big and (they think) you are smaller – believe they must always WIN while every other person they relate with loses. Typically, they feel YOU need them more than they need you. Their actions reflect this belief. What you are about to read is a true story. Names and job titles have been changed.

Here’s the true story:

When Publishing On 3rd Party Websites Can Hurt You (True Story)

If you do any marketing online, it’s likely you’ve heard or read that “Guest Posting” is a powerful (often) zero cost marketing strategy. I agree – but sometimes it can backfire, and make YOU look bad, as this true story illustrates.

Due to the fact that it’s so hard to find a good fit for my target audience (Farm CEOs), I’ve not done much guest posting. But my fears about even the little I did back in 2012, on a 3rd party website today materialized today, when I discovered one very popular article had been taken offline without my being notified.

Back in 2012, I wrote 6 guest posts that got accepted for publication by a certain popular website focusing on African businesses, with a section dedicated to agribusiness.

The website had announced invitations for submissions on the above theme from interested persons, and I’d written in to the editor at the time, with hints of article titles I proposed to write. She had enthusiastically replied that they would be willing to review what I had.

So began an interesting exchange in which I prepared each article and sent it in every other week or so, until I had 6 published and LIVE on their blogs.

As at today – 7th Feb 2015 – the guest post shown above is no longer at the same URL…

After sending the above email, I decided to check that the article was there...a strange feeling pushed me to do it...and it turned out to be a wise move. What I saw made me quickly send a follow up email shown below!!! - Click now to view larger image

A lot more happened, in which I published a new ebook, that the editor provided a compelling review of.

I will however cut the long story short by jumping to when, a few months later, something strange happened: she stopped responding to ALL my emails.

Initially, I thought she had gone on leave or was busy. But additional months passed and no responses came to my emails – even when I sent a “hello”.

When, on 4th May 2014, I lost my spontaneousdevelopment.com domain, I again reached out, to let her know, so the links in the bylines for my guest posts on their website could be updated to tayosolagbade.com.

But again, NO RESPONSE – not a sound, from her.

At that point I decided to let go.

So, I moved on, but in order to respect the guest posting rule, I still linked directly from my blog to the articles. I felt it would be improper to republish them from my website.

I did the above despite the fact that several people contacted me saying they read the articles and tried to reach me without success via the old URLs, before deciding to “Google” my name – which brought them to my new website.

As I got this feedback, it occurred to me that I had not taken the pains to create records of the fact that the articles were published as guest posts.

So, I took screenshots of each one and stored on my laptop, making a mental note to use them in my planned Best Practice Farm Business ebook series (which is now live at www.lulu.com/sdaproducts).

And it was a good thing I did that, because today, when I sent the link to one of my guest posts, to a prospective buyer, the article was NOT there!!!

There’s no need for me to say more than I have said above. Below are verbatim excerpts from emails I sent to the gentleman, which say it all.

He had gotten in touch yesterday night regarding my Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager, Ration Formulator and Feed Formulation Handbook.

After my usual ritual of calling to find out more about his farm business, I sent him the details he requested this afternoon.

Some hours later, he replied with a request for payment details and more information as shown below:

And I responded with the details reproduced below…

Re: Re(Your Enquiry): Excel-VB Poultry Manager, Ration Formulator Software, and Feed Formulation Handbook

Thanks for your message…

1. Attached is a zipped folder containing the generic business plan preview documents – for the Micro Business Plan and the Full Business plan

Take a look through. I have taken out certain sections and left others in – but mostly blank tables and labels.

Note that the performance indicators featured in the tables are discussed in the articles I’ve linked to in response to below titled “5 Powerful Tools for Accurately Measuring Your (Farm) Business’ Health”

http://www.africabusinesscommunities.com/index.php/rss-abc-blogs/200894-5-po

2. Payment details:

<removed for privacy >

Note that you can convert the dollar fees to Naira, using the latest rates at www.xe.com

Whatever that comes to in naira, will be added to any other naira payments you wish to make and paid into the above account.

Let me know if you have any further queries or need clarification.

With kindest regards,

Tayo

Re: Re(Your Enquiry): Excel-VB Poultry Manager, Ration Formulator Software, and Feed Formulation Handbook Quick update/follow up on the preceding email response…

I always had the feeling that one day my guest posts (published back in 2012) on some 3rd party websites would suddenly vanish and I would be left looking either

like a liar or a fool, with the links to them from my publications and my website.

But I refused to accept the negative thoughts.

Well, after I sent you the link to the article on Africanbusinesscommunities.com, I decided to check it was still there, only to find (as I’m sure you must have by now) that it no longer sits at that URL!

I checked another of my guest posts and that one is still there.

Thankfully, I already copied all 6 of them and published them in my new Best Practice Farm Business ebook series (see www.lulu.com/sdaproducts), and the introduction I used in the ebooks for each article indicates I was conscious something could go wrong in the future…lol!

Find attached a GIFT PDF version of my ebook series, and go to page 9 to see the full version of the article I referred you to in my preceding mail i.e.: “5 Powerful Tools for Accurately Measuring Your (Farm) Business’ Health”

I guess this is further proof that it pays to be prepared – a lesson I have learned the hard way over they years :-))

Accept the ebook as a gift from me …whether or not you go on to buy!

Final Words

The way I see it, they could at least have warned me that the article had been removed, so I could update my links.

But then, it could also be said that they did NOT owe me even that. Either way, I do NOT ever want to find myself in that one sided situation ever again. So, it will be VEEERRRRYYY difficult for ANYONE, to get me to ever agree to submit a guest post again.

I think I’ll just avoid making myself look foolish by keeping my content on platforms I control!
