[RECOMMENDED] My Home Is Not A Democracy: 10 Commandments for Parents Who Refuse to Compromise their Children’s Future – by Joseph B. Woodley

The title of this book alone (cover shown below) speaks wisdom. My March 2016 article (titled, in part “Parenting Is NOT A Democracy…” – previewed/linked further down) is similarly themed. Wise parents will take heed before it is too late.

[RECOMMENDED] My Home Is Not A Democracy: 10 Commandments for Parents Who Refuse to Compromise their Children’s Future – by Joseph B. Woodley

I must warn you before you open the pages of this book; this will not be a “softball” or “appeasement” or “politically correct” book. The systematic strategy for dismantling and destroying the family unit and the God-given potential for greatness we each carry within us is no longer knocking at your door. We can no longer take the posture of back- seat drivers; reacting as if we are helpless kidnapped- passengers being dragged along for the ride by an oversized bully, incapable or unwilling to make the choices necessary to maintain the character and integrity of the home. Whether you are a two- parent home or a single- parent home, the choices we face are still the same. We can either choose to fold nodemoup our tents and raise the white flag of surrender or we can choose to stop complaining about everything that is wrong with the world and fight. If you want to win and you refuse to compromise the future of your child to a world bent on promoting the worst in your child instead of getting the best out of them, then keep reading. ‘My Home is Not A Democracy’ draws a line in the sand, offers sound strategies for effective parenting and challenges every reader to stand your ground and fight for the future of your families.

Photo below (taken in March 2016) shows my 10 year old girl smiling while holding one of our 3 “African Easter Pizzas” she had made. You would NOT believe she was the same person who had burst into tears while kneading the dough for the Pizza – after I scolded her for refusing her 12 year old brother’s help in doing it right :-)

PII 062: Anatomy of Farm Operation Record Form Used to Collect data for Tayo Solagbade’s Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager

This issue of my Performance Improvement Ideas newsletter features a dissection of the sections in Farm Operations Record Keeping Form that comes ready-to-print in my popular Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager software.

To use it, the client simply prints out a copy using the command button provided in the app’s Menu (see top left of Form Section No. 1 below).

Then photocopies of the printed blank form are produced, with a copy being filled in daily, by the farm hands or other assigned personnel, using records from the shop floor or as the activities to be documented happen.

Ideally, what should happen next is that at the end of each day’s work, the farm hand that filled in the form would sign in the space provided, and hand it over to the supervisor/manager or owner – depending on the management structure in place.

The latter would then retire to a preferably quiet location, free from distractions, to review each completed form, and once certain that the filled details are valid, s/he would proceed to post them into the relevant interfaces in the software.

Form Section No. 1: Laying Pens

The operative will start by filling in the name of the farm in front of “Farm:” and s/he will also fill in the date in front of “Date:”

Note that the app automatically applies the name of the farm at the very top of the page, just immediately above “Production Record Chart”

pfm-farm-rec-form_01

This section caters for the flock of laying birds on the farm. Data entered here gets posted into the Layers table in the app. Note the different table fields, which identify layers in different states or conditions, for the purpose of reconciling opening and closing flock sizes.

The form provides for entry of data for up to 3 pens, with each pen having 3 cage lines. In the original version of the app, it has 6 cage lines per pen.

If diligently used, this form section forces the operative to physically check the number of birds and also account for dead, missing, culled, or tranferred ones.

S/he would be kept on his/her toes knowing that when his/her form in filed in the records folder, it could be referred to at a later date for use in tracing any inconsistencies that could arise in the future.

To the right, after the flock record, comes the Feeding Record column. The user posts the total amount (kg) of feed fed to the birds in each cage line. The app instantly generates the grammes consumed by each bird in that cage line. Best practice range is 100 to 110 grammes per bird.

Next comes the egg laying record, The user has to post relevant numbers of eggs collected from each cage line,  per pen.

And this has to be done according to the number of times collection is done. From working with multiple farms to customize this software, I found it was safe to settle for collections done twice daily. The specific times the collections are done vary from farm to farm – the software allows the users post as/when the data becomes available.

Another KPI computed by the app is the Hen Day Percentage (HDP).

It uses the egg laying data posted to generate the corresponding HDP. Best practice range for the HDP is from 65% up to about 85%. It is unlikely that most small to medium sized farms can record anything higher with any degree of consistency in terms of farm overall average HDP.

NB: Anything outside best practice range, for any of the measured parameters, should raise some cause for concern, and action should be taken to find out why it is so. The app’s charted display of the KPIs offers good opportunity to better determine if any unhealthy trend is occurring.

Form Section No. 2: Rearing Pens

The younger birds – pullets to be specific – will come from rearing pens into the cages. So this section naturally does NOT have provision for eggs collection, since this group of birds will not yet have reach Point Of Lay (POL)

pfm-farm-rec-form_02

As a result, the record required to be kept for them only has to do with flock size and names of farm personnel who handled each Pen.

Below is a preview of an article I wrote about 10 years ago, in which I explain the different Key Performance Indicators in terms of what they measure, why they are useful for farm management decision making, and how to calculate them (which is also how my Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager does it!)

Practical Poultry Farm Business Performance Calculations

Introduction

In this article, I share VERY practical, real world relevant tips about performance measures you can compute daily, weekly, monthly and at the end of year to accurately determine at every stage whether your poultry farm business is operating optimally.

These performance indices are NOT aggregate measures. In other words, they are NOT measured in monetary terms. Instead they have NO units, being ratios, usage rates and percentages that help to (a) establish a normal trend of your farms’ behaviour (b) quickly identify/detect departures from that trend, so that you can take timely/corrective action.

Note that these measures are tried and tested, and are actually built into a custom spreadsheet software application I built for a client who runs a Twelve thousand (12,000) layer poultry farm business.

Click here to read the full article which provides detailed explanation of the KPIs and how to calculate them

Form Section No. 3: Eggs Transportation & Operators Checklist

Most of the farms I’ve sold this app to, do not have elaborate egg sizing classes. In many cases small and big were the 2 classes used, for sale. Cracked eggs featured on all farms.

Now, the table below the eggs transportation records table contains a Daily Operator Checklist designed to force each operative assigned to fill this farm record form, to stay alert to his/her duties in a way that would ensure best practice conformity at the end of the day.

So, on the form you see tasks specifications for each pen e.g remove litter daily into pit, and so on.

pfm-farm-rec-form_03

Notice that at the bottom of the form, provision is made for the supervisor or any responsible staff, to sign that s/he has seen the completed form, and that s/he has checked/confirmed that what she filled in was accurate and true representation of the situation on the farm.

It goes without saying that no serious minded supervisor or manager wants to be found wanting when checks are carried out on the signed forms against the reality on the farm grounds.

So, quite often this document section forces the staff or manager in charge to go out of his/her way to check and ascertain/ensure that all is done right.

In the process, best practice conformity is achieved!

Proper use of this farm record form, or an adapted version of it, can dramatically boost the accuracy and reliability of record keeping on any farm. It only requires diligent enforcement by the farm management.

[DVAM] Women aren’t the only victims of domestic violence. Understand the signs of domestic violence against men, and know how to get help – MayoClinic.org

Prevailing stereotypes about Domestic Violence are making it so easy for cunning female offenders to get their male victims vilified as the abusers!

These manipulative women know how the system works, and they are “gaming” it to have their way at the expense of their intimate male partners.

Thankfully, we have females with integrity speaking out about this harmful trend (e.g Toyin Omoniyi, a female Nigerian Lawyer in her excellent piece titled Domestic Violence Against Men by Toyin Omoniyi (TyLegal))

And these fair minded females are demanding more recognition for DV Against Men.

Most are mothers to sons and siblings to brothers who they’ve seen suffer serious abuse at the hands of female partners.

Many are joining the movement to inform and educate, as are the men in their lives.

The information in the truly excellent (!) article published by the famous Mayo clinic (MayoClinic.org) – which is previewed/linked below – can help you get started learning what you need to know, to identify and stop DVAM

So I say this to you now…

If you’re male, lookout for the signs for YOUR own sake…

If you’re parent to someone who is male, and you really care for him lookout for the signs for HIS sake…,

If you’re uncle/aunt/brother/sister or relative to someone who is male, lookout for these signs for HIS sake…,…

Domestic violence against men: Know the signs – Mayo Clinic

Domestic violence against men isn’t always easy to identify, but it can be a serious threat. Know how to recognize if you’re being abused — and how to get help.

By Mayo Clinic Staff

Women aren’t the only victims of domestic violence. Understand the signs of domestic violence against men, and know how to get help.

Recognize domestic violence against men

Domestic violence — also known as intimate partner violence — occurs between people in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence against men can take many forms, including emotional, sexual and physical abuse and threats of abuse. It can happen in heterosexual or same-sex relationships.

A new generation of shrewdly manipulative and cunningly abusive women are using protective systems put in place by society to exploit males that are their intimate partners.

In other words, they are gaming the system and by so doing are making a mockery of the eFforts to stop domestic violence by exploiting stereotypes about males being the only perpetrators, to abuse their partners at will while readily adopting the accepted posture of “victim in self-defence” when their actions come under scrutiny.

What they do, they teach other women and their own daughters, who rarely know better.

We need to fight and stop this trend. Our sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and other loved ones who beloing to the male gender, remain at grave risk if we don’t.

That’s why I’ve launched the page described below…

Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying & Stopping It

SPREADSHEET AUTOMATION WORKSHOP INVITATION: Anatomy of N200k Excel-VB Cash Book Spreadsheet Software [Secrets to Build Yours Successfully]

To formally close the maiden year (May 2016 to May 2017) in the life of my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation club, I’ve decided to conduct a LIVE hands-on workshop titled “SPREADSHEET AUTOMATION WORKSHOP INVITATION: Anatomy of N200k Excel-VB Cash Book Spreadsheet Software [Secrets to Build Yours Successfully]“.

Duration: 11a.m to 5p.m

Location: Sherryville Arcade, Ojodu-Berger Bus Stop, Opposite First Bank Plc, Ikeja – Lagos

Date: Sat 29th May 2017

The commercial quality Excel-VB software application to be reviewed is one that I built for a large Specialist Hospital based in Ogudu, Lagos in 2007, for approximately $1000 USD equivalent at the time (Back then $1 USD = N200)

Name: Excel-VB Driven General Accounts Manager [GAM]

Watch the YouTube demonstration video on my YouTube channel at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUl4_RAja-g

Below are its key features and details of the app:

Description: This is a highly sophisticated Automated Cash Book with a Powerful Modeless Dynamic Data Entry Form & Menu Driven Reports Summaries Generator.

  1. Allows user to post cash office receipt using in-house format register (cash, cheque. value card etc) and payment (expense) amounts using custom automated floating modeless data entry forms.
  2. Automatically generates – using drop menus – Weekly, Monthly/Annual Income & Expense Reports on one A4 page.
  3. The reports are integrated with charts/graphs of EACH heading value

During the workshop, I will show attendees the various interfaces in the app, and demonstrate how they were built from scratch, using a blank workbook template.

In other words, by the time we are done, a simplistic version of the app would have been built – though not with all the bells and whistles I added to the real app, for obvious reasons that they would take more time to incorporate.

Attendees will be able to ask questions and try their hands at doing what I show them.

My learning events are always EXPERIENTIAL i.e. designed to give learners what they need to know, in a way that builds on what they already know, and what they already do in their work/on their jobs.

This event is designed to be a way of saying THANK YOU to members of my Excel Heaven club over the past maiden year (May 2016 to May 2017)

From 1st May 2017, ALL members will be required to renew their membership for another year, to continue receiving the weekly email tutorials I send out.

All those who attend the event will get FREE copies of a home study video tutorial version of the workshop that I will create AHEAD of the event.

The reason is to ensure that they are able to study and understand anything we are unable to cover in the event using the DVD version.

Question: So, what’s the FEE for attending this Workshop Event “Anatomy of an Excel-VB Driven Commercial Automated Cash Book Spreadsheet Software [Including Tips of How to Build It from Scratch]”?

Answer: Simply pay the ONE year membership fee of $65 USD @ N200 per dollar i.e. N13, 000.0

DISCLAIMER: I Do Not Sell Fish etc!!! [Suspected Impersonator/Attempts to Discredit Me]

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’m getting this kind of bothersome feedback.

It would appear some person(s) have been impersonating me in relating with Farm CEOs and other stakeholders.

A member of my Farm Business Ideas club – Tunde Okunuga – called me up at 08.56 this morning to say he’d referred his brother based in Ede to me a while back, and that the latter said he had been corresponding with me – claiming that I had even sold FISH to him!!!

Fish ke! Where would I keep them? Ede is a location I have never gotten a single call from. This made no sense at all!!

My mouth was hanging on the floor by this time, and I recalled a Real Estate CEO who’d told me a “Tayo Solagbade” – with a different photo from mine – had been sending him messages!

Beliow is the SMS I sent him after the call, which I post here as a precursor to a formal disclaimer I will publish later.

=Starts=

Hey Tunde.

I just spoke with MTN call center about your assertion that Alfa, in Ede, spoke with me on phone, noting that I never got such a call and have never heard that name or had an enquiry from Ede in my life.

Neither do I sell fish to anyone! The operative at my instance checked and found no active call direct on my line. A

s things stand it would be useful for me to speak with your brother to get a better idea of what’s going on.

Do respond.

Tayo

NB: I have since not been able to reach Tunde Okunuga on his line for some strange reason. And he has yet, as at this moment (4p.m) to reply my above SMS.

UPDATE (17th April 2017 @ 20:21): Tunde, who is on my newsletter mailing list, replied to the email broadcast version of THIS post, which I sent out, saying he would call his brother today, to find out what was really going on, noting that it did appear that someone was using my name. I’ll be posting any feedback he sends me, here, as soon as I get it,

In developing custom Web Marketing Systems for clients, I sometimes encounter a need to offer tips and guidance to them about how to get samples of their original content across to me (or prospects/clients who contact them) via the web.

This need occurs fairly often due to the fact that I work 95% of the time remotely (and LOVE it). So I very rarely have to meet or work face to face with clients – even when we are in the same city as I am!

Why do I prefer to work this way (i.e. remotely or 100% online) you wonder?

Well, first of all, it enables me avoid dealing with traffic  of vehicles and humans, and exerting myself physically in a way that eventually eats into work related stamina I could make better use of.

Secondly, I have found that I am able to provide my services – efficiently and profitably – to a larger number of clients within the same period this way, than if I had to move around and meet each one.

Thirdly and most importantly, I work this way because it gives me the power to make use of my time they way I want, so that I am able to deliver to client’s satisfaction and feel fulfilled at the same time.

Smart business owners today are constantly on the lookout for ways to use PC and Internet technology to get more done with less effort, in less time, and at less cost.

Working the way I do makes that possible for me. I am convinced many others would find it works well for them too. But fear of the unknown holds many back!

But back to the point I want to make: Sometimes a client may need to get some files across to me via the web, but they could be a bit big.

S/he, if not familiar with ways to get that done, would typically ask me for support to get it done – and I would gladly respond by offering a variety of experience based suggestions for him/her to consider.

That happened recently with a client, whose work in providing vocational training in agro-based enterprise startup and management, struck me as being worthy of being showcased as a core offering in the flagship Web Marketing System I am developing for him.

After I’d sent him an email with pointers on possible ways to go, it occurred to me that other persons with similar challenges might find the tips I sent to him useful.

So, I decided to publish excerpts from that email on this blog (see below) – so I’ll be able to sent the URL to any other persons who request similar support in future.

I invite you to read through the ideas I offer below, on this theme, and if you find them useful, do not forget to share this piece with others you know may also need the information it offers!

Hi (name removed),

Regarding getting the big video files to me, I suggest using either option 1 or 2 outlined below.

But before you try to send it, I strongly recommend you try reducing the video file size – and if possible convert it to a popular format like MP4, if it’s not already in that format.

Below is a link to one video compression software that – based on its review by CNET – should work well for you:

Free Video Compressor – Free download and software reviews – CNET Download.com

Reducing the video’s filesize will make your job of uploading it easier.

So I recommend you try it.

Now, there is a way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone using Youtube.com that you may also wish to explore:.

My experiences indicate you can upload your big video file to your Youtube channel and then download the MP4 version created by Youtube to your PC.

I’ve done that several times with great results to show.

Over 60% file size reduction can be achieved this way, while preserving original video quality.

I’ll send you a Whatsapp audio to explain how to use Youtube as described above

Finally, once you have the video file size you want to send, you can then email the files using either 1 or 2 outlined below:

1. How to send large files to anyone for free – PC Advisor

NB: I recommend WeTransfer, MailBigFile – based on the descriptions given. Though I’ve bever used either.

One that I’ve used is Pcloud.transfer.com – with great results. You can check their filesize limits

2. 3 Ways to Email Large Video Files – wikiHow

To email large video files, you can use Google Drive in Gmail, Skydrive in Windows mail, or Dropbox in Yahoo mail.

NB: If you choose this option, I suggest you use GoogleDrive, since we both use Gmail

Let me know if you have questions or require clarification.

Talk later,

Tayo

I created a mind map, years ago, that anyone can study and use to develop and implement a WMS for his/her own brand.

In other words, you can either DIY or have someone (like me) do it for you.

[DVAM] It’s Time to Acknowledge Male Victims of Domestic Violence – By Bari Zell Weinberger, Esq. – huffingtonpost.com

[TIP: Yesterday, I formally launched my new Facebook page named “Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying & Stopping It“. The page is dedicated to empowering men who find themselves, by some accident of fate on the receiving end of abuse from an intimate female partner. Click here to visit it].

The Huffington Post article previewed and linked below, is yet another (like this one from yesterday) in a series that I’m compiling to SHOW clearly that DVAM is a major reality that is being ignored by most stakeholders, especially those tasked with duty of providing support and protection to abused persons.

This neglect of male victims of domestic abuse by females, is being exploited by a growing number of manipulative females to visit serious physical, emotional and psychological abuse on their partners, knowing prevailing stereotypes about domestic violence will make it easy to later claim to be the victims!

I have seen this happen MANY times over the past decade. So I speak from a position of personal knowledge and experience when I make these assertions. My mission is to influence a positive and permanent change in THIS unsatisfactory situation for the better.

It’s Time to Acknowledge Male Victims of Domestic Violence – By Bari Zell Weinberger, Esq. – huffingtonpost.com

When we discuss domestic violence, it is often assumed that the victims are women. And the statistics are truly traumatic. The less-told story is that a striking number of men are victims, too, suffering physical, mental and sexual abuse in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships.

According to the CDC, one in four adult men in the U.S. will become a victim of domestic violence during his lifetime. That’s upwards of three million male domestic violence victims every year, or one man in America abused by an intimate or domestic partner every 37.8 seconds.

Highlighting these statistics is not meant to downplay in any way domestic violence among women. It is, however, intended to add to the growing conversation that anyone can be the victim of domestic abuse and everyone who needs protection deserves access to it.
