Remi, this young custom Ankara shoe and bag making entrepreneur who trained youths on day 3 of the B.H.F Youth Conference in Delta State’s Sapele (see photos below), is a model of what is possible. So many of our young people can be gainfully self-employed like Remi is, IF they would only embrace vocational skills acquisition.

Rather than repeat myself all over again, in yet another “preachy” article, I feature below, previews and links to 2 news reports that illustrate VIVIDLY the fact that even those coming back home with “hot” university degrees obtained from foreign universities are NOT getting the jobs they thought they could get.

PII 115:  To Kill Unemployment, Treat People With Vocational Skills With EQUAL Respect (and Remuneration) as Those With University Degrees! [True Story – Remi, a Lagos Based Entrepreneur, Shows Sapele Youths How to Make Ankara Bags and Shoes]

On day 3 of the 3 day Youth Conference on Vocational Skills Acquisition organized by. B.H.F Foundation (recall on day 2 of 3 I conducted my training on How to Make Drinks You Can Sell Using Pineapple Peels), we had a smart young entrepreneur named Remi  teach the over 230 youths how to make Ankara Bags and Shoes.

remi-4

Below: Beginning stages of the process of making Ankara slippers – notice the shoe last (or mould)

My phone battery shut down before this session ended. Luckily we had 2 photographer/video men who captured it all, so DVDs are to be produced.

remi5

remi6

Over a 4 hour period, this highly skilled young man painstakingly demonstrated the process of making what he called a “Box Bag” (see photos below) and also how to make smart slippers – both with beautiful Ankara fabrics.

We had been expecting him to join us since Monday, but he’d had to stay back to ensure the first half of a client order was safely dispatched to its overseas destination.

In other words, this chap actually produces his custom bags, and shoes for both local and export markets.

Further discussion with him revealed that he’s been in the business for about 8 years now.

Dropped out from Secondary School due to lack of funds. Found his way back to school via technical education where he learned the basics of shoe making. He however noted that he learnt the art of Ankara bag and shoe making by studying YouTube Videos -adding that ANYONE can do what he does today, if s/he is willing to invest the time and effort required to learn the same way – at more or less zero cost.

I have shared the above to underscore a point I’ve been making for YEARS that education needs to be functional.

This young man is not only gainfully self-employed, but he also offers a few people income earning opportunities to work with him.

On top of that, he offers training and coaching for interested persons to learn how to do what he does.

Many of our so called graduates carrying B.Sc and M.Sc degree certificates from local and foreign universities around looking for increasingly hard to find jobs fail to realize they can do much more for themselves by exploring entrepreneurship – especially via acquisition and use of income earning vocational skills that are IN DEMAND in their societies!

Rather than repeat myself all over again, in yet another “preachy” article, I feature below, previews and links to 2 news reports that illustrate VIVIDLY the fact that even those coming back home with “hot” university degrees obtained from foreign universities are NOT getting the jobs they thought they could get.

And they are certainly NOT getting the kinds of salaries they thought their expensively acquired degrees would command. Indeed, as the Sunday Punch report below shows, many are finding themselves being passed over for graduates from local private universities!

It’s so bad that many of them, in spite of the many millions they spent getting their degrees from abroad, have today put them aside and embraced self-employment via vocations like custom shoe making – and as the case of Agu proves, despite being initially mocked by colleagues, they are actually doing quite well.

The above reality – and the fact that many others who continue to venture abroad to study, face increasingly tough conditions to pay their fees and living expenses, resulting in serious and humiliating hardships, PROVE that pursuing paper qualifications NO LONGER works like it used to.

Read: I Am Now Depending On Friends For Food And Shelter – Nigerian Man Studying Abroad

Today’s society rewards people with skills more readily than it does those without them. At the least, you want to arrive in the market place with both academic competence AND market relevant skills.

Dashed hopes: Returnee graduates struggle as employers snub foreign degrees

returmee-graduates

This much was said by the graduates interviewed in the reports I feature above, as well as the HR consultants whose opinions were sought by the reporter.

The truth is that our conventional schooling system – the one that emphasizes near exclusive book learning – no longer works and needs to be totally overhauled.

The smart parent – and student – would do well to make the needed changes in what s/he chooses to learn NOW, rather than wait for the school teachers, lecturers, administrators or policy makers to do what needs to be done.

That’s what I’m doing for my kids and it is why I’m offering any interested parents, teachers or policy makers FREE download access to the PDF pre-publication edition of my paper titled “Schooling is a Means to an End and NOT an End In Itself”.

My PDF report features links to a video that compares Job Training in the USA with that done in Germany – and it points out a GLARING shortcoming of what is done in the USA and explains why Germany’s approach enables it boast one of the lowest youth unemployment rates in the world.

I believe Nigeria can LEARN a lot from that video -and that we can drastically cut down unemployment in our country if we adopt a similar model to Germany’s in which people with vocational skills get treated with EQUAL respect (and remuneration) as those with college or university degrees!

Remi, this young custom Ankara shoe and bag making entrepreneur who trained youths on day 3 of the Youth Conference in Sapele, is a model of what is possible. So many of our young people can be gainfully self-employed like Remi is, IF they would only embrace vocational skills acquisition.

I explain with elaborate examples and illustrations, including true stories about my personal experiences and those of others, in my PDF report. Click here to learn more.

This Money Making Business Requires Zero Cost Capital to Start [True Story: Tayo K. Solagbade Shows Sapele youths How to use Pineapple Peels to make drinks they can sell at zero cost]

tks-sapele1

Photo: Tayo K. Solagbade Showing Sapele youths How to use Pineapple Peels to make drinks they can sell at zero cost).

Date was Wednesday April 25, 2018

Venue was the Sapele L.G Secretariat Hall in Delta state on day 2 of a 3 day Youth (90% female attendees!) Conference on Vocational Skills Acquisition organized by. B.H,F Foundation. The interest level was quite impressive.

Now, I LOVE to keep things real…We are Africans. What we do must be based on our socio-economic realities. No phony stuff!

The bag on the floor contained the peels we got from a vendor at Sapele market the night before, with the help of our host’s wonderful wife – Mrs, Tetsola.
Notice the kerosene stove provided by the organizers: I told the audience that I started making this drink using Charcoal stove.
Keep your costs LOW so you can reap fatter margins of profits!

Read: There Is Nothing Wrong With A Humble Beginning- Achieve YOUR Success With Honour & Integrity

I told the youths how I developed the drinks making process in Calavi – Benin Republic, weeks after arriving in that country and sleeping for several days on the streets of Cotonou and Porto Novo.

I pointed out the fact that THAT experience of suffering was a key factor that led me to think up the idea of using waste peels I saw everywhere, to make drinks for sale.

Another thing I told them was that unlike the other 2 micro businesses taught by my colleagues (liquid soap & bleach making + Ankara bag/shoe making) the raw materials needed to make drinks for sale using my method are 100% FREE: Pineapple peels (which any vendor would gladly give to you) and water.

In other words, if you lack money, THIS is one venture you can easily start – NO EXCUSES.

You can borrow every other item needed to make the drinks e.g. pots, stove etc.

What’s more, you can also drink it at home (and use it to entertain your guests) thereby saving yourself money you currently spend buying drinks sold commercially.

This FREE Talk on Drinks Making is a Public Service Inititiative I’m Implementing it in line with the ideas I advocate for adoption in My Report titled “Schooling is a Means to an End, and NOT An End In Itself.”

Here are some excerpts from it…

“My experiences convince me I MUST empower my kids as early as possible in life to KNOW how to MAKE MONEY and to NOT need a job, to achieve success in life.”

“No matter how (academically) brilliant a person is, unless s/he knows how to DO SOMETHING (legitimate) that will make society pay him/her money in enough amounts to meet his/her neeeds at any point in life, s/he will struggle not only to survive, but in a society like Nigeria, to get RESPECT from others. “

“Our schools teach too much book based subjects that have little to do with what learners are going to face in the real world of society. In addition they hold on too long to the kids with mundane activities.”

“Further proof that the points I make in this report about the inadequacy of formal schooling are valid can be seen from the fact that NYSC Orientation now includes admonishing graduates in their service year to LEARN a trade.”

PII 114 [EVENT VIDEO & PHOTOS] How to Make Drinks You CAN SELL from Pineapple Peels – True Story

I was VERY PROUD  of my girls for doing this public service, using one of several skills they possess.

It is said that one of the best ways to one of the best ways to get better at something you know is to teach it. Teaching forces you go out your way to fill in any gaps you may in your know-how, because you’ll want to make sure your learner “gets it”!

I’ve found this to be true and I’m using it to help my kids to take their mastery to the next level (this includes their baking, hairstyling etc).!

[Photo Below]: Image flyer version of THIS post announcing the event titled “How to Make Drinks You CAN SELL from Peels of Pineapples” that my 2 daughters (12 and 9 years old) – supported by me – will be facilitating in Ogun State on Sat. 14th April 2018!”

Date: 14th April 2018 | Time: From 10a.m

Venue: Town in Ogun state

bhf-cbs-flyer-OK

Following several face to face meetings as well as phone and email exchanges over the past few weeks, the CEO of BHF Foundation – a Lagos based NGO engaged in vocational skills training across learning institutions (up to tertiary level) in Nigeria has formally sent in an invitation letter (see below)  indicating his desire to have my Pineapple PEELS drinks making training for an estimated number of housewives, undergraduates and youths.

bhf-letter-blur

His NGO is organizing an approved 3 day youth conference outside Lagos. Our training comes up on the final day (Sat. 14th Apr 2018).

There will also be a Shoe and Bag Making Training by another expert whose work I’ve seen.  Venue is a town in Ogun state. Full details with photos WILL come after the event.

The CEO learnt of my one day workshop on drinks making using Pineapple Peels, from a partner of www.discovercotonou.com (my new travel product/service website brand) and got interested.

I have since told the CEO, who is also a Pastor, that my 2 daughters (aged 12 and 9 years old) will be the lead –facilitators on that day. as they have been doing it for YEARS (I will mainly provide support as they progress). The purpose of running the event in this manner is:

  1. To challenge the adults who will be attending the event to BELIEVE they can do it, when they see my girls doing it.
  2. To give the girls an opportunity to develop their sales/marketing presentation skills as part of the Vocational Skills training based education they’ve been undergoing. You can see photos of home based baking of bread, pizza, cake, chin-chin etc that they do at home using their trademark charcoal stove and pot on their Facebook page at facebook.com/TemiandOluomasCharcoalStoveBaking/

INVITE US TO  CONDUCT ANY OF OUR HOME BASED DRINKS AND FOODS MAKING TRAINING SESSIONS

My girls make their drinks and bake their confectionaries using their charcoal stove technique  – we use that approach to PROVE that lack of capital cannot stop YOU from getting started. However, they also KNOW how to do it all, using gas cookers.

Apart from inviting us to conduct our on demand training for your group, public spirited individuals//organizations can SPONSOR the event, for groups of people we (and/or my partners) may bring together.

About Temi & Olouma…

‘Temi (12) & Oluoma (9) are sisters who (with support from their family) use creative low cost recipes & a charcoal stove pot to bake cookies, cakes, bread, chin-chin, Pizza etc for sale.

This micro business venture began as a “skills acquisition project” Temi asked their Dad to let her do, after seeing videos of homemade cookies baking. The girls learnt to make the cookies by watching YouTube videos by hobbyists/experts in the USA and Nigeria.

PII 113 [AUDIO]: 1. One Serious Mistake Gov Ambode Needs to Stop Making If He Wants to Stop Domestic Violence | 2. Just Before You Blindly Join In Pointing Accusing Fingers at A Man Accused of Domestic Violence

In a few days from now (13th April 2018 to be exact), my “Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying and Stopping It” Facebook page will clock 1 year (12 months) old, since I launched it.

During the past year, it’s been interesting to see people following the page despite the fact that I have not gone out of my way to create ANY awareness about it, other than publishing new content every other month or so. More interesting has been the fact that those who have LIKED the page have been BOTH male and female!

The above tells me that this page’s message resonates with growing number of people.

On my part, as I note in the 2 audio podcasts I’ve just published in my SoundCloud.com channel, there are MANY men who are suffering in silence as victims of Domestic Violence, because little if at all ANY provision is made to address their needs where it relates to a situation in which their intimate FEMALE partners are the aggressors/abusers in the relationshop.

For those not aware of it, DVAM is a BIG problem that is hidden because few men have the courage to report it, and also because most of those assigned to tackle issues of Domestic Violence tend to focus on Women and Children to the exclusion of men.

My purpose is to influence a change in that narrative – and I AM using my platform here at TayoSolagbade.com to do what I can to draw attention to the need for a change in this trend that currently exists which puts men at a disadvantage.

These 2 Zero Cost Strategies Can Boost Your Gym Marketing Success [Partner with Solagbade’s Discover Cotonou Mobile Fitness Club]

This article is based on an email message I recently sent to the manager of a Lagos based fitness club branch, after I visited the facility and was taken round by one of her instructors.

In line with my passion for sharing my smart marketing insights with other business owners, I decided to send her this message in form of feedback about 2 things I identified could be done to boost chances of increased leads generation happening.

If you run a fitness club or gym, you may find the ideas I offer below of potential use and benefit. Click here to send me a message if you would like to partner with my Discover Cotonou Mobile Fitness Club.

Hey Madam,

Thanks for taking time to speak with me and my son when we came over earlier today.

I have a vision to PROMOTE a serious interest in healthy and fit living amongst Nigerians/Africans in particular.

As a result, my interest in building a relationship with your outfit goes beyond considerations of any financial gains that may accrue from doing business with you.

For instance, starting from this month (April) I will be adding names and details of as many health and fitness clubs I can find along the Lagos - Cotonou axis which I will then use as a basis for offering information and education to travelers who are fitness enthusiasts (my primary target audience).

To that end, regardless of how my offers to you end up, I will be reaching out to you at some point to schedule an appointment for a short (15 to 30 minute interview) that I will be using to gather details for my database.

Now, I feel a need to offer you some feedback based on our visit to your gym.

This is based on my experiences, observations and review of similar outfits to yours, with regard to their marketing operations - both within and outside Africa.

I noticed 2 important things missing from your operations today, based on my personal experience while visiting

1. NO Gym Sales Lead Database Generation

Marketing is the lifeblood of ANY business. Sales conversations must constantly be happening, for sales conversations to take place. The instrument for creating sales conversation opportunities is a SALES LEADS DATABASE - it's a list (with details) of potential clients you can contact based on their interest in what you sell.

Whenever people walk in to a gym (or indeed any other enterprise), it can be quite useful to get them to fill a form that captures information you can use to reach out to them later on. Some may signup and become members, but others may not. Both will however be useful to contact, as a way of not just keeping in touch/reminding them to visit the gym, but also to follow up with them to join up.

I did not see any such form on your reception desk, neither did I see it being handed out to. or filled by clients that were in the gym.

This is different from a Membership Records Database - it is for PROSPECTS who have yet to signup as members. Experts in the fitness business recommend that gyms make it a rule to get WALK IN prospects to fill such forms before they leave. There are ways to use that information that can yield massive benefits

2. NO Needs Analysis BEFORE Giving A Gym Tour to a NEW Prospect/Lead

Again, I refer to this as a recommendation widely made by successful fitness gym business owners. They noted that it is never wise to take a potential client on what is called a "Disney Tour". This is because quite often, the individual will have unique needs that s/he is looking to meet at the gym.

If you want him/her to feel YOUR gym is the right one for her, ALL the communication you do with him/her MUST let him/her see that you UNDERSTAND his/her needs and are prepared to tailor the solution you offer to meet it.

You can TELL him/her that, but it is always better to SHOW rather than TELL. And the best way to SHOW is to ASK QUESTIONS, preferably by getting him/her to fill a NEEDS ANALYSIS form that will then be reviewed by your fitness expert as a basis for deciding what kind of TOUR of your facility is needed!

I am able to say the above, based on the personal experience I had during my visit today, with my son.

I came in with a specific set of needs in mind, mainly relating to the goal my son and I have agreed he is to aim for by usuing a gym we settle on.

In order to establish if your gym would help us in that regard, I asked your instructor, who you asked to take us round, a set of pointed questions about what facilities could be used to achieve what outcomes.

However if a Needs Analysis form had been designed for your gym, based on a review of the past experiences you've had as a team, providing fitness solutions to your clients, it would have simply been given to me,.

Then I would simply have completed it, giving your man a better idea of what to SHOW me (or indeed other leads/prospects) who visit your gym and where to focus in providing explanations etc.

Note that the 2 points I've made above, apply to SALES LEADS generation BOTH off and ON the web. In the latter case (i.e online), a variety of methods can be exploited.

By way of interest, if your company becomes my client, I WILL actually do 1 and 2 for you, and more of that kind of sales leads generation strategies, at no extra charge, as part of the implementation of a comprehensive Web Marketing System.

I hope you find these ideas of some use.

They are offered to you with my compliments as a gesture of goodwill.

However I do believe I can add greater value to your company by developing a comprehensive Web Marketing Strategy that enables you achieve 1 and 2 on and off the web, and more.

With kindest regards,

Tayo

[RECOMMENDED] Do You Know How To Deal With People Who Mock And Ridicule You? (Syndicated Version)

I wrote this article over a decade ago, less than 5 years after I quit my job to become self-employed. It was a period when I was experiencing a lot of repeat rejection from potential clients, especially as I tried to find buyers for my Excel-Visual Basic Automation solutions.

Many people simply ignored me (or my letters/flyers) while some walked me out of their offices.

But some went out of their way, to mock and ridicule me in ways that remain so painful for me to remember even now.

I will however add that what they was what I ended up using to inspire myself to succeed in creating a lucrative niche market for my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation products and services – which have since been purchased by clients within and outside Africa.

Read this article (which has been widely syndicated online – see examples here) to learn the exact ideas I used to enable myself to succeed inspite of ANY mockery and ridicule directed at me. Apply them as recommended and you WILL become UNSTOPPABLE, like I am!

[DVAM] Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence. by Edward Rhymes]

I continue my STOP Domestic Violence Against Men (DVAM) Campaign by featuring this powerfully eye opening report about a serious aspect of the Domestic Violence epidemic that most of society is missing – but thankfully, MORE and MORE experts are beginning to identify and call attention to i.e. that women have been found, many times to BE the abuser in cases of DV, and we need to address SUCH situations!

Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence.  by Edward Rhymes]

Let’s put this into perspective: a significant amount of the findings regarding male-as-victim intimate partner violence came about as the result of studies and surveys that were aimed at understanding domestic violence against women. These are not studies conducted by rabid anti-women men’s groups or right-wing think tanks. They were conducted by organizations like the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, the American Sociological Association, Psychology of Women Quarterly and the American Journal of Public Health, to name a few.

Last Friday (23rd March 2018), like I hinted I would, in the blog I posted about the invitation I got to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, I submitted a follow up letter on the theme of my 62 page paper (Schooling is a means to an End and NOT an End in Itself) to the Deputy Governor.

In that letter, I put forward my thinking about how the Ministry of Education (MOE)and Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD) can collaborate to better equip learning institutions to deliver EDUCATION that empowers learners to enter society with reliable competence to fend for themselves.

Like I did in writing to the MYSD, I included a full printed copy of my 62 page paper as a reference.

Having said/done the above, the truth is that I really do not care if I hear back from them or not, at this point.

What matters to me is that I have gone beyond grumbling about how things are not right with our schooling system, to OFFERING my own ideas for consideration, even as I put them to use for my kids.

It’s worthwhile to note also that more and more people continue to reach out to me, requesting their FREE copies of the PDF version. So, for me, progress is happening. It’s up to the policy makers to do what they will with what I’ve sent them.

If you need the paper, click here to fill and submit a form request.

“To be well adjusted to a sick society is no sign of good health” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

The annoyances in Nigeria (like the broken & corrupted schooling system) never stop bothering me.

I find it hard to accept them as normal and inevitable. Some people have told me it’s best to get used to them since they are not likely to change.

I think THAT is not a healthy way to live life. But that’s me. I believe I CAN change my reality. And that’s why the annoyances of Nigeria’s schooling systems drive me to find a solution I can share.

The ideas I advocate for adoption in this report are borne out of YEARS of painful struggling and suffering trying to find my true purpose in life, since I left the university, and especially since I quit my high paying job in a large multinational manufacturer, to pursue my long standing dream of running my own business.

I was NOT happy doing my salaried job, despite the good pay. I longed to do something that allowed me the freedom to explore my creativity, and maximize the potential I knew I had.

The need to do this became more apparent to me, and more urgent, when, one day, in my office as Technical Training and Development Manager, an old, retired ex-employee of the company, who we as young graduate trainees had heard retired after over 2 decades of service, BEFORE we joined, came asking, PLEADING actually, that I award him a training contract.

Among other things, in response to my explanation that my
expatriate boos and I were committed to only engaging accredited trainers, and only in response to REAL training needs among our staff, he pointed out the fact that he had done my job during his time in the company. I was aware of this and told him so. But I made it clear I could not help him.

After he left, I told myself I did NOT want to leave the company at retirement age, of say 65, when I would have lost my youth and most of my energy and drive, to do the needed hustling required to deal with life postpaid employment.

I wondered how it was possible that he’d ended up the way he was despite what I’d heard about the millions he’d been given in his retirement cheque.

Later, discussing with others, I learnt how bad spending habits cultivated from time in paid employment, are often difficult to curb post-retirement, leading many who leave the company to run out of money quickly. Then those who try to venture into business of some sort, having no prior experience, most times, often get swindled (sometimes by close relatives) and/or just do the business wrong and end up failing.

All of this told me that despite the schooling we had all received, our jobs paid employment insulated us from the harsh realities of life in self-employment or business.

But that would only last until we had to retire, or worse, when we got sacked (which has happened to a lot of people when they least expect it).

The thoughts I nursed made me spend 2 solid years trying
to gain experience by starting a business of some sort. I was restless. At a point it became apparent that I could not combine working my day job with the plans I had.

[Read Should You Quit Your Job or Start Your Business Part-time?]

When I’d been a shift brewer it had been easy to do other things – including travel to attend entrepreneurship workshops. So,
I put my 2 year old exit plan into effect, and quit my job in
December 2001.

When I started out in business, I planned to get hired as a trainer/speaker, and I expect my credentials and long list of achievements in paid employment would speak for me.

But I soon learned things were not so straightforward! Things started out VERY bad, as I was unable to earn any tangible income for the first year – save for a pitiful N10k honorarium from the Centre for Management Development.

Yet, I had countless meetings, wrote numerous letters, to organizations everywhere. My efforts to get hired as a trainer/speaker had for the most part met with very little financial success.

People seemed unwilling to invite or engage me, despite my testimonials from presenting my original management paper on Self-Development at the Shangisha Centre for Management Development, on the invitation of the Director General , Dr. Mayaki.

It took me time to understand (actually someone in the business for a long time had to tell me) why I was not getting called in despite what they said was my impressive resume from Guinness, and the original menu of solutions I offered.

Nothing worked.

It began to dawn on me that all my years of university study and time spent in paid employment had not prepared me to do business in my country –at all (just like I had been warned, in a 1 hour closed door session by one of my expatriate bosses, after I told him I quit!)

It took me over 5 years to get a sense of direction. I had to learn how to find the right people to market to, and what to offer to do for them. All the things I thought mattered from my experiences in paid employment were put aside.

I then did deep thinking about how to take what I knew how to do (my skills) and use them to SHOW potential clients how I could solve their problems.

This led me to begin creating demo Excel-Visual Basic software applications to which I used in presentations to decision makers of micro to medium companies I approached (the big names never let me through the gates most times, so I let them be).

Eventually, as I improved my methods, sales began to happen on a more regular basis.

For instance, in March 2007, I built an Excel-Visual Basic driven Automatic Pay slip Generator Spreadsheet software application for a large hospital in Ikeja, Lagos. They continue to use it, even today (in 2018) over a decade later, to generate salary schedules, personal income tax and printed pays lips for over 120 employees.

See one of the video demonstrations for an advanced version of that app at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG5Rtkgrthk

Another application I built for them was an Excel-VB driven
Automated Cash Book/Bank Reconciliation Software (See
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKOHXh4LKqE) .

About a month after I built the second application for that hospital, I succeeded in using demonstrations of both, to get another large hospital, also with over 100 staff to hire me to build an Excel-VB General Accounts Manager software that made use of formats/data from over 2 years of individual Excel workbooks they had store as weekly reports.

The second hospital purchased the Pay slip Generator and a year later (2008) hired me to build a Cash Office Payments Manager application.

The success I recorded with these companies was coming after years of struggling as a startup entrepreneur, to find clients willing to pay me to develop Excel-VB software for then.

So things began to look up for me when I decided to fall back on my spreadsheet programming skills, which I began offering to micro, small and medium sized bus9inesses – like those mentioned above. Today, I have clients in and out of Africa, who use my custom Excel-VB software (see www.excelheaven.biz).

And I also have experts in various fields who are paid members of my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation club, learning how to use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to automate their use of Microsoft Excel, from me.

Indeed, this past month (February 2018) the newest member of my club joined from Nairobi in Kenya.

He watched the video of my automated cashbook and then emailed to ask how he could learn. About 2 weeks later he had sent agreed advance payment to sign up for my 1 year One-On-One coaching in MS Excel-VB programming (see http://tayosolagbade.com/xlvb1on1.html )
[TIP: That year when I had my major breakthroughs (i.e. 2008) after reflecting on my experiences, I wrote the article titled “Is Your Child Learning for School or for Life” :
https://ezinearticles.com/?Is-Your-Child-Learning-For-
School-Or-For-Life?&id=1240561 ]

What I had gone through and the manner in which I’d emerged made me realize the formal schooling I’d gotten had NOT prepared me well enough for the real world. The desire to share my experiences for others to learn from drove me to write that article, as well as others published in the Best Practice Parenting category of my blog at http://tayosolagbade.com/sdnuggets/category/parenting/

That passion made me write THIS report you now read.

In 2006, I published a Whitepaper titled The World’s Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs.

It got so widely syndicated online that in 2015 I published it as an ebook (see http://www.lulu.com/shop/tayosolagbade/
the-worlds-future-prosperity-depends-ondigital-
multipreneurs/ebook/product-21951176.html).

The World's Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™

Subtitle: Sustainable Socio Economic Prosperity Worldwide is Achievable Through Creation and Proliferation of Digital Multipreneurs™ in All Societies This book is based on a White Paper first published online by Tayo Solagbade in January 2006. Tayo has since applied the ideas and strategies described in it to achieve the success he enjoys today as a Location Independent Performance Improvement Specialist and Multipreneur (i.e. a highly versatile/multi-skilled entrepreneur), with a bias for delivering Best Practice solutions to Farm Businesses and others – by providing solutions to buyers within and outside Africa. More…

Today, I live the life of a Digital Multipreneur, proving that my ideas from that book actually work.

The above background is provided here not to brag or make myself look good, but to show how I have moved from being confused and unable to make reliable progress to being sure of what to do, how, where and for whom.

All of this has happened without my needing to go back to school to get more qualifications. Indeed, when I was confused, I still had all my qualifications and paid employment experiences. But they were not enough. I had to sit down, over time, to do serious critical thinking to find the right formula.

Today, I argue that developing a critical thinking habit, coupled with a passion for self-education is MORE important for achieving success in ANY field, than whatever qualifications a person may possess.

This is why I recommend, in this report, that a vocational skills based approach be made the foundation of formal schooling that we give our kids. It will make them enter into society as well rounded competent income earning adults.

No matter what life throws at them (jobs or no jobs), they will be able to fend for themselves.

A well-schooled person may NOT necessarily be well educated.

This is apparent from the glaring fact in many societies that MANY finish the highest levels of schooling and still enter society clueless about how to make a successful existence – especially financially.

In other words, they leave school knowing little or nothing about money and how to get it, outside paid employment.

My experience based understanding is that an educated person is one who knows WHAT to do to get whatever s/he wants AND who when unsure what to do, knows WHERE to go (or HOW) to find answers s/he needs to achieve his/her goals!

This is why I argue that every parent needs to TAKE OWNERSHIP of his/her child’s schooling, to ensure the child gets COMPLETE, BALANCED education that is real world relevant, boosting his/her chances of success in life as an adult.”

Today, I can confidently call myself EDUCATED due to the process I’ve followed via trial and error, plus lots of self-study and deep thinking, as reflected in my story told above.

suli-lyrics-skul-vs-education

To add perspective to what I have said above, I will give examples of educated persons as:

He is an Associate Member of the UK Institute & Guild of Brewing, a 1997 National Finalist of the Nigerian Institute of Management’s(NIM) Young Managers’ competition, a Certified Psychometric Test Administrator for Psytech UK, innovator of Spontaneous Coaching for Self-Development™ (SCfS-D™), and Founder of the Self-Development Academy (SDAc).

[IMPORTANT NOTE:====

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts he’s published.

If you experience any difficulties finding a page or document, email Tayo at tksola dot com.

Click “Tayo, What Happened to SpontaneousDevelopmentDotCom ?” to read a detailed narrative about how the above event occurred :-))

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

Succeed by Emerging from Adversity Like a Phoenix

(TayoSolagbade.com launches extra Hosting plan with FREE Web Marketing!)

And he wrote the one below, to explain why losing a domain name, no matter how old, NO LONGER determines your online success or otherwise:

A Proven Strategy to Find Profitable Buyers Regardless of Your Domain Name
