How to Attract Farm Customers Online (Case Study: A Farm CEO’s Interesting Facebook Post on Human Salmonella Outbreaks Resulting from Backyard Poultry Practice)

I recently stumbled on a facebook page run by a Farm CEO, that offered an interesting perspective in a piece about recent Human (yes HUMAN!) Salmonella outbreaks and their link to backyard poultry practice which is becoming quite common.

I excitedly clicked to read the rest of the piece. Suffice to say that I was NOT disappointed.

It turned out to be a nice piece: both informative and educative. The kind of useful content I would readily recommend to others I identify may need it.

Click here to request the link to the above mentioned Farm CEO’s article on Human Salmonella outbreaks, as it relates to backyard poultry practice.

My interest here is due to the fact that I serve Farm CEOs (e.g. with my Custom Excel-VB Software, Information Products, Web Marketing Support, Learning Events etc)….

What I’ve found over the years is that many of them are yet to understand why I keep telling them they need to use the web for marketing by creating original content like this Farm CEO is doing on his Facebook page!

That was why I was quite pleased to read the article he’d written.

It showed that he was thinking along the lines I’d been advocating i.e. about using information and education to SERVE his/her target audience.

I instantly knew he would be a useful model to showcase towards challenging other Farm CEOs, so they SEE how to do it, and the benefits of doing it.

You see, most people in business, in my part of the world have a habit of focusing on ANNOUNCING the products and services they have for sale.

They believe it’s better to be DIRECT and relentless in telling potential customers to buy. They have little or no interest in serving useful information and education to potential buyers.

Yet doing the latter is a proven, reliable means of winning trust that ultimately converts strangers from prospects or potential buyers, to loyal customers/clients.

The “pushy” sales person (this-is-what-I-sell-buy-now) approach fails to build trust easily in the mind of prospects. Indeed, most potential buyers exposed to it tend to feel harassed by your messages – denying you an opportunity to really get to know what they want.

The above mentioned Farm CEO’s article showed he had the right mind set to win buyers’ trust

But I saw something he needed to do differently. So I sent him a message.

Basically, I loved everything he’d written.

Except the way he’d ended: specifically the final sentence which read thus:

“You can learn more about the signs, symptoms, and treatment of Salmonella infection online.”

By ending that way, he’d short-changed himself in terms of generating potential sales leads.

Here are excerpts from the Facebook message I wrote to him offering tips about how to correct that defect in his copy.

I share them here in the hope that others may find them useful:

====Starts====

Hi,

Just read your piece on Salmonella and found it quite interesting.

<Deleted preamble>

I however have an issue with your final sentence.

=

You can learn more about the signs, symptoms, and treatment of Salmonella infection online.

=

No, don’t do that.

Don’t send your reader away to learn more elsewhere.

You can offer specific links to 3rd party resources, but not too often, and not this early.

It’s better to build credibility in the minds of your readers so as to develop what is called Expert Authority Status.

You started the good job of educating and informing him/her on this subject/theme.

It’s an interesting perspective that most people rarely consider. My thought is that you can continue it as a special educational series. Doing so would make people come back for the latest one!

That process inspires trust that can lead readers to decide to LIKE your page, visit it often, share your content to their networks/tell others and at some point possibly buy from you, and even refer others to do same!

I recommend that rather than tell readers to “learn more online”(which could be anywhere AWAY from you!), your business marketing goal should make you setup your brand so you can end your articles by saying something like:

=

Learn more by visiting our website or blog at www.xyzfarms.com to read other articles – and don’t forget to signup for our weekly newsletter before you leave.

=

That will help you build a growing base of followers and a mailing list of potential buyers.

The foregoing (I.e. generating sales leads) should be your ultimate goal for posting useful write-ups like this, as a profit focused Farm CEO!

Cheers,

Tayo

Final Words

In writing to the owner of the featured page, I mentioned that I would use what I saw him doing on his page as a case study in a new article on how to offer useful content to connect with potential buyers.

That is what I have now done above.

I hope you find it useful.

Excel-VB Apps Can be Made Networkable, to Enable You Remotely View & Generate Timely Reports for Decision Making

I’ve recently noticed a gradual increase in the number of enquiries I’m getting from online prospects, about my Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager app.

Interestingly, more of them now ask if the app can work across an intranet. In other words, for those who have a network of interconnected offline PCs, or those who use apps that send and receive live updates via the web, the Farm CEOs ask me if my app offers similar functions.

Now, I could be wrong, but the more I get asked this question after I answered someone else not too long ago, in the affirmative, the more I cannot help feeling that the same people are the ones coming back through proxies to ask me the same question again.

Why would they do this?

Well I suspect it’s the same reason some of my past clients did so. Knowing that my app is built using MS Excel, which is NOT designed to be multi-tasking, they find it hard to imagine how ONE app like mine can possibly be used at the same time on multiple terminals across a network.

Rather than argue, I will simply tell the reader that I have done it more than once, and for GOOD pay too. Way back in paid employment I developed a Training Records Database application for use by departmental heads across the brewery via the intranet.

Each head was able to launch the app from where I’d placed it on the server, using the shortcut I’d placed on their PC desktops. They then quickly/easily generated training reports for individual employees in their departments, for printing.

Now, despite the fact that the above happened, it was only good for VIEWING and report generation/printing.

If data entry needed to be made, that had to be done by posting into the app on the server, and then advising ALL users to close and re-launch the app to view the latest updates.

As you can imagine that option did not appeal to the CEO of a hotel I got invited to build a Hotel Records Management System (HRMS) for.

In his case he wanted the different sections of the hotel where data recording happened (e.g. Accounts, Reception, and Bar/Restaurant) to post their data as and when needed in a way that would promptly reflect in the report generation interface of the app, once it is REFRESHED.

In my usual way, I thoroughly investigated the possible options available online until I found a perfect solution described by an Excel-VB developer named Pierre LeClerc.

Even though his method did not suit the hotel’s purpose, a little creative thinking quickly helped me develop an adaptation that did.

2 months later, I’d successfully trained the staff in the different hotel data entry sections, to use the app across the company’s intranet.

After overcoming the usual teething problems, they soon got up and running using the app. I still recall being asked by the CEO to call up the app on his laptop so he could view latest reports drawing from data being posted in the different sections.

It is the same method I used for the hotel that I would use as a guide for developing a network-able version of my Poultry Farm Manager app.

I cannot give details of how I would do it, but once completed, it would enable a Farm CEO readily access any latest posted data updates the staff may have done, from ANY terminal – including the web.

If you’re interested in using my Excel-VB driven Poultry Farm manager across a network, click here to send me details of your needs, and how you’d like me to help you.

In my response, I will send you a one page annotated diagram that depicts the approach conceived by Pierre LeClerc, which I modified to develop the HRMS mentioned above.

Below is a small version of the diagram:

1 of 2: PUBLIC SPEAKING – The Key to Sales and Marketing Success

“Talk to a man about himself and he will listen for hours.” – Benjamin Disraeli

The foregoing quote offers potentially useful insights into how to make your sales and marketing communication successful in winning buyers. I explain below.

Quick Take-Away: You want to read this piece if…

A. you need ideas to get started selling your products/services.

B. you’re already making sales but would like to sell more, with less effort and at less cost.

What I share here I learned the hard way – as a struggling entrepreneur who could not support his family, talk less find funds to pay for marketing or advertising!

In other words, all I had was the opportunity to access the web at N100 to N250 per hour (depending on the café I used), and to try promoting the solutions I offered via self-taught web design and web marketing skills.

Things did not work out for A LONG time, for me.

I recall in 2005 or so, I got to a point where after exhausting my own funds, I would sneak into my wife’s purse and take N100 from the little she’d kept saved there, so I could work one extra hour in the café to try a new idea I had.

Most times after doing that bad deed, I came home with nothing to show for it, and to get some MAJOR LIP from my wife, for taking her money!!

That’s all way back in the past now. But I share these details, because today when I create promotional stuff that I use online people who watch me do it, comment that I do it effortlessly.

I tell them that’s because I learnt to use Photoshop to create graphics and Macromedia Dreamweaver (today I use Joomla! and WordPress) to build websites, NOT because I wanted to, but because I did not have the money to pay a web designer I’d approached to do it for me.

What was more, despite my best efforts, nobody I knew and talked to was willing to give (or lend) me the money to pay the guy.

But being the self-driven independent minded thinker I’d always been, I ignored suggestions that my business idea was bad, and resolved to learn to do it myself.

Some experts believe that it’s best to focus on what you are best at, and to sub-contract the rest to others. I argue that THAT depends on what part of the world you are in, and how reliable the people you have to do that with are.

In my part of the world, the idea of using Virtual Assistants and the like for building my kind of knowledge based business is often an invitation to trouble. Quite often, it’s either you get lots of disappointments or worse, your material could get “stolen”.

I exaggerate NOT. It almost happened to me: TWICE!

So that’s why/how I learnt to create my own promotional materials for use online.

But acquiring the skills only addressed one dimension of the problem. By the time I began using those skills, I soon realized I needed to find a way to get my target audience the pay attention, and at some point RESPOND to my offers (e.g my Excel-VB Ration Formulator, and the popular Feed Formulation Handbook).

Which brings me to the major mistake I see lots of people making when trying to sell.

They are always too focused on themselves, and what they want you to buy. The rarely invest time, effort or energy to INVESTIGATE and accurately identify what you need – or how best to communicate with you (i.e their target audience).

For instance, every now and then I get emails, phone SMS messages, facebook messages etc, in which some product or service offer is made to me.

What always strikes me as odd, is the fact that those who send such marketing messages do so as if they assume they are the only ones, who do what they do and that their offers are irresistible.

Yet when one checks, they offer no compelling reason to choose them over the other providers who sell (what often appear to be) the exact same thing.

Little or no attempt is made to build a relationship or establish some trust. They just write and ask you for business without preamble.

To borrow an expression from Fela Anikulapo Kuti: JUST LIKE THAT!

And that’s the mistake many make.

Even when YOUR offer is free, that approach will rarely work with a discerning prospect.

Smart business persons who are clued up about what it takes to win buyers over, know that the most important thing your sales and marketing communication MUST do is answer the question: What’s In It For Me (WIIFM)?

When conceiving your sales and marketing message, you MUST focus on giving a compelling answer to the WIIFM question in the mind of your target audience.

People often make the mistake of thinking they need to talk about themselves, and how good they, their products, and their certifications are, to convince buyers.

In reality however, if you want to attract high profile buyers who will spend good money to buy from you, the KEY is to tell them how you can help them solve a problem they have!

To do that you must develop a system to discover what problems they seek help with. Then using that information you get as a guide, you will tell them what your product/service can do for them along the lines of interests you know they have.

Quite often this process will not happen instantly or overnight. Instead it will take time and effort, possibly over a period of hours, days weeks or even months.

But the good thing is that once you succeed in gaining the right insights into what the prospect needs, you will be able to repeatedly use what you learn to sell and resell to them!

In fact, as long as you continue to create solutions that work, to meet the needs you identify your prospects have, selling to them will often be near-effortless.

This is what many people trying to sell tend to miss – because they are often in a hurry to sell.

However, unless you have a captive audience and a product/service that no other person offers, you simply cannot succeed by “hurrying” prospects to buy.

If you want cost-effective and sustainable success in selling, you cannot work that way!

What you can do…

I once came across a quote that read:

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care” – Anonymous.

The above words underscore the point I’m trying to make here. But it’s not just the quote that convinces me of what I say here.

It’s the repeat success I continue to record in selling a growing range of mostly digital products and services, to an increasingly global audience that tells me it works!

Let me illustrate based on what I do…

When someone who came to you 2 weeks ago, and asked for details and prices for 2 products s/he discovered on your site via a Google search, goes silent after you’ve responded with details (and a phone call), one would be tempted to assume s/he has moved on.

Yet, time and time again such enquirers have returned weeks, months (even years!) later, to buy those same things they asked about, from me, as if they never left.

I have written several true stories about this in the past – including one that mentions Oladipo Mann who came back about 3 years later!

The key to my success in winning buyers over this way has been my ability to communicate along the lines of what interests them, even when they seemed to have “gone”.

How do I communicate with them when they go away- you wonder?

It’s simply by using a Web Marketing System (WMS), which has at its heart a routine of regular publishing of useful content, that continually invites those who interact with it, to part with their contact details – email addresses and phone numbers especially – via a web form (like this one).

When they do that, they get added to my mailing list database, to which I routinely send broadcasts about my new content as it is published online.

Due to the fact that most of my content is often designed to inform, educate and empower my target audience (i.e. answering the WIIFM question, the subtle effect over time is they begin to LOOK FORWARD to it.

And since I creatively insert references to solutions I offer, in the body of the content I send out, THAT keeps the interest they have alive – in their subconscious.

Over time, they begin to TRUST me, because I am telling them things that interest them, and which they find potentially useful.

Since my focus is never on selling, but on educating them, to do what they do better, including seeing why they’re better off buying from me, I feel no need to chase them…

As Jason Leister so often warns in his newsletter, “chasing” prospects or clients to buy often causes them do the exact opposite (i.e run away!).

Many people who want to sell fail to get this!

The approach of communicating to answer the WIIFM question eliminates the need to chase – and it is the key – the secret! – to sales and marketing success.

You simply keep doing your thing as described above, till your target audience arrives at a psychological point of conviction where s/he decides to ask YOU for payment details.

As long as you make sure the content you send to them is relevant and of high quality, it’s only a matter of time before this happens.

Final Words: To end, I reproduce the quote I began this write-up with…

“Talk to a man about himself and he will listen for hours.” – Benjamin Disraeli

From what I’ve shared above, it’s obvious that this quote explains why answering the WIIFM question in your marketing communication, works. You may therefore want to keep it in mind, when carrying out your sales and marketing tasks in future!

Question: But who is Burt Dubin, and why do I (Tayo K. Solagbade) think you should you learn from

him?

Answer: Burt is a 3 decade veteran in the professional speaking business. After achieving top level cross continental success as an

expert-speaker, he has established a reputation for mentoring some of the highest paid speakers in the world. He owns SpeakingBizSuccess.com, SpeakingSuccess.com and BurtDubin.com.

Burt helps those he mentors (experts-who-speak) to Position, Package, Promote, and Present* themselves successfully to clients (*He calls

them the 4Ps). That’s why it’s no surprise that on Burt’s website, considerable space capital is devoted to useful business marketing articles as well as products.

It might also interest you to know that MANY years back, Burt established himself as one of the best marketing minds in the world. To really put this FACT in

proper perspective, I’ll provide more specific details in form of an example.

A few years ago, Burt contributed an article to a powerful publication titled “The Most Effective Articles Ever – By The World’s Top Marketers“. That 574 page ebook features timeless marketing advice from 71 of the world’s top marketers – including Jack

Trout, Joe Vitale, Yanik Silver…and Burt Dubin.

That’s ample proof that (in addition to Public Speaking), Burt would be a great resource to learn business marketing from!

Full Disclosure: I represent Burt as Sole Agent for his products/services, which means if YOU buy from him, I get paid.

But that’s NOT the main reason I represent and recommend him. I have benefited in many ways by learning from Burt. Through his writing, his audio recordings,

and from directly relating with him.

Before we teamed up in 2011, I’d been studying his work and adapting it to succeed in my work from way back in 2002. It does not matter what part of the world

you’re in. If you know how to adapt them to suit your peculiar local needs, Burt’s ideas and strategies WILL work for you. I am living proof of it!

That’s why I never tire of CONFIDENTLY recommending him to others.

If you need help putting the ideas shared above to use, let me know HERE.

My Proposed Not-For-Profit Best Practice Farm Business Support Centre for Farm CEOs: How to Get Involved

My Web Marketing System is really helping the not-for-profit “Best Practice Farm Business Support Centre for Farm CEOs” launch – I’ve been inviting potential contacts from my website database of past enquirers and buyers to make donations towards in Benin Republic.

I continue to marvel at the superbly time, effort and cost-saving manner in which using my Custom Web Marketing System (WMS) generates high quality zero cost leads for solutions I sell, and initiatives I launch.

It’s been so easy to get taken seriously by these Farm CEOs and other stakeholders, because my WMS makes them see the depth of my commitment, and quality of benefits I can deliver!

This approach makes it easier to quickly win funding support or patronage.

That’s why I keep harping on the need for any person with serious ambitions to learn to use the web the way I do. The Conversion Rates I record prove that a WMS is a timeless marketing strategy truly works.

At this point, to better cope with enquiries I’m getting regarding the Best Practice Centre’s funding, I hereby publish below a generic outline I send out to those who request details about getting involved.

It gives more information about the plan, and 2 possible ways interested persons can contribute.

=Starts=

1. The Campaign Strategy/Focus

Unlike a conventional crowdfunding campaign, which is thrown open to a potentially global audience, I’m focusing my campaign on my database of past enquirers and buyers within and outside Africa.

The initial broadcast will be followed up with each person, to clarify the details.

There are about 700 of them, and I estimate that I have had direct phone conversations with up to 100 of them between 2006 and now.

I believe such people know me, and the work I do, and are more likely to be interested in seeing it grow, and/or gain access to the benefits promised.

Sharing Your Culture and Traditions With Foreigners is REALLY Cool!

It’s strange, and sad – but true: Too many modern day Nigerians readily favour foreign cultures and traditions over theirs. Quite often they regard what is theirs as inferior to what obtains in developed societies.

NB: I happen to be a full blooded 45 year old Nigerian – born and raised in Nigeria. So I state the above based on VERY personal observation and experience, spanning over 3 decades.

Now, unlike us, the Asians have for decades often done the exact opposite.

For instance, people from across the world have embraced various versions of Martial Arts as taught in different parts of Asia, and readily adopt even the Asian language of the society in which they learn.

Same applies to Asian foods, traditional attire and alternative medical remedies and practices e.g. Acupuncture etc.

Here’s another thing: No matter where a Chinese national immigrates, anywhere in the world, it is VERY unlikely that s/he will go looking for paid employment

Instead what they are notorious for doing is STARTING their own businesses, no matter how small e.g. a noodles shop.

In contrast, the average Nigerian that immigrates to another country (especially Europe/America) is more likely to go in search of secure paid employment, and if successful, will try hard to hold on to it for as long as possible.

Having said the above, there are always exceptions to this trend – as it is with everything in life.

In the case of Nigerians, those of the Igbo stock are renowned for their trade and commerce acumen. Especially when they travel to other African countries. They have proven themselves to be especially gifted at establishing thriving buying and selling micro to small businesses.

One could argue that they act this way because most times those who follow this path lack the qualifications to seek and win well paying jobs. But that’s a subject for a separate discussion.

But back to the point I was trying to make about the Nigerian tendency to place more value on what is foreign over what comes uniquely from his/her society…

A person who is uninitiated could be tempted to think Nigeria/Nigerians act as described above, because they do NOT have anything original or unique to show off to the admiration of people from other nations.

I say this with regard to the way a South African, for instance, would give branded gifts from his/her country to a Nigerian, or American, regaling him/her with some historical anecdote relating to the item.

The recipient would excitedly show off the item to loved ones back home, and proudly recount the anecdote told to him/her by the South African. This happens all the time. We all love to own stuff that’s considered special, rare, unusual, unique, treasured etc.

The truth is however that Nigeria/Nigerians do have A LOT in our culture and tradition that can be proudly shown off to foreigners.

And those that visit us SAY SO all the time. I know because I interact with them.

The problem I see is that in today’s Nigeria, too many of us do NOT even know enough of anything about our cultures and traditions.

We have all sorts of wonderful arts and crafts that have beautiful histories behind their emergence. Those engaged in producing the Adire in Ogun state’s Abeokuta for instance have interesting tales to tell about how they have evolved, how they are made, what they are used for, who buys them etc.

A similar situation exists across the country.

But you’re unlikely to find many schooled Nigerians talking about them (if they know about them that is) as excitedly as they talk about the various famed Italian designer brand name clothes and shoes for instance.

Many of our modern artists know more about Western art sculptures than they do about our renowned Benin Bronze carvings.

When they visit us here, we try to impress them by showing off what often tend to be inferior versions of what we bought or copied FROM THEIR societies…rather than show them what we have here they are unlikely to find back home!!

Even in our preference for music, this problem shows up. The lyrics of our songs reflect little or nothing of our African heritage. Instead we continue to ape (often unsuccessfully) the originators from Europe and America.

Only artistes like Beautiful Nubia, Lagbaja, Asa etc offer us anything qualitative on the music plane, based on our original culture and heritage.

Now, just in case you find my comparison of this Nigerian tendency with that of Asians and South Africans too far fetched…

Let me inform you that just next door to us, in Benin Republic, I’ve found from 3 years of living amongst the locals, a FIERCE and unpretentious demonstration of LOVE for their culture and traditions.

This includes both youths and adults of both genders, regardless of educational level and perceived social status.

Based on 3 months I spent on the national university campus in 2013, I believe this love of their culture and traditions is instilled in them from very early in life.

The people of Benin Republic are exposed – like us – to Western culture and traditions through the powerful and pervasive influence Western media and the web, BUT they have refused to let it erode the fabric of their own unique cultural heritage.

I know this because I have seen it play itself out again and again. The youths in Cotonou (the economic capital) are often quite familiar with local songs, practices and dances. And they never betray any embarrassment in revealing that they are.

In fact, it comes naturally to them, and they often want to get you to LEARN their local language over French, their official language.

In Nigeria, the opposite tends to be the case. Not many Nigerians can speak their local languages proficiently. Even adults. But most of us pride ourselves on our perceived mastery of the English language!

Same applies to our demonstrated love for, and knowledge about sporting events and games.

The level of awareness about, and interest in our local games, and sports is very low. We perceive them not to be as refined as those from the white man’s land. So, most of us settle for the latter.

In case you’re wondering, here’s the point I want to make with ALL I’ve said above…

I have long resolved to NEVER be guilty of treating or regarding my culture and traditions as inferior to any other persons’, no matter who they are or what they do. That’s why I embarked on a journey of learning and discovery regarding exploring my Yoruba culture, tradition and ancestry.

In addition, since my wife is Igbo, I am also working on ways to learn useful aspects of her people’s way of life as well.

But it’s not just for myself I do this…

Using what I’m learning, I am progressively exposing my kids to the beneficial parts, so they can arrive adulthood with a more rounded view of who they are, and be proud to show up to others that way, instead of trying to be like them!

Here are 2 recent examples of practical steps I’ve taken to implement my plans:

1. My 10 Storyfied Yoruba Proverbs Audio Book – which I created in collaboration with my kids. Click here to watch/listen to them recite proverbs in a preview version of the Audio Book on Youtube.

2. Below are photos showing my 2 daughters playing the ancient board game of Ayo (click here to learn more about the game – how to play it etc)

photos showing my 2 daughters playing the ancient board game of Ayo

photos showing my 2 daughters playing the ancient board game of Ayo

photos showing my 2 daughters playing the ancient board game of Ayo

Ayo is played in societies across West Africa, bearing different names in each location.

The Yorubas call it Ayo. Other names given it are described in the article on this linked page (click).

I bought it on my way to the Seme border last week, and came home thinking I would be the one to teach my kids how to play it.

As it turned out, they already knew how to play it – having been taught by their mother. Within minutes of snatching it from me on the night I arrived, they were “playing away”!

Which brings me to a BIG confession I need to make:

Do you know the irony of this whole Ayo training that I had planned for them? It’s that I did NOT know how to play the game myself, and had NEVER once played it, in my entire life!

My plan had been to use the instructions I found via Google on a web page, about playing the game, to teach them. Instead I found myself listening to them TELL/SHOW me how to play it.

NB: Having said that, the little reading I’ve done tells me it’s meant to be a game of strategy. For now they play it rather mechanically, without putting much thought to it. So I’ll be taking out time to read up more of the fine details of how to play it, and then join them to see how we can make it more interesting.

I’m now confident my kids can play this traditional game: So if/when they have friends visiting from Europe or America, rather than playing a game of Chess or Ludo with them, they may choose to teach their friends to play AYO, so the latter can return home bragging about a new game they learnt.

Incidentally, the Ayo board is made of hand crafted wood, and one can get specially decorated versions suitable for use as gifts to such friends.

In our case, it so happens that we have long time family friends from Sheffield, visiting Nigeria for 2 weeks.

So, I and the kids have agreed that we’ll be presenting them an AYO board game as a gift, to take back with them. Every time they play it back home, we hope they’ll be reminded of their trip, and probably also teach their friends and relatives something new and interesting!

THE FARM CEO (Issue 15): Assessing Farm Record Keeping Behaviour among Small-Scale Poultry Farmers, Reducing Cannibalism among newly hatched African Catfish, Fry by Grading, Understanding African Farming Systems – Science and Policy Implications, On-farm research leading to a dynamic model of a traditional chicken production system, Fish Farming Investment | 5 Ways to Lose Money | Tilapia Fish Farm Guide – West Africa

[Tagline: If it can help your farm business, you’ll find it in THE FARM CEO™ Newspaper ]

Below is a preview of THE FARM CEO newspaper for this week (Issue No. 15):

This week’s feature is a publication that discusses findings from the investigation of farmer’s disposition to record keeping. If you’ve been following my writing on the subject of Cost-Saving Farm Business Ideas, you will know that I have written several pieces that stress the importance of farmers developing the healthy habit of data recording and analysis for timely and accurate decision making.

I found it quite interesting that the farmers interviewed asserted that they did not keep records mainly because it was “not beneficial” to them.

That, to me, is a clear indication of the need for proper education and reorientation of the farmers about the powerful Key Performance Indicators, they can quickly, and easily track to manage their farms more profitably. The immediate past Issue No. 14, of this newspaper (The Farm CEO™) featured several of my articles which discussed such KPIs and their methods of calculation in elaborate detail.

10. Deliver on-demand practical coaching for Farm CEOs (including on-site technical support) on the development and implementation of a Best Operating Process Management System (BOPMS) for Farm Business Performance Improvement.

[Updated 1st Oct. 2015, 1.33p.m, from Lagos-Nigeria] Below: Layout Plan for the centre (still work-in-progress)  – Now LIVE – read more here

This Best Practice Farm Biz Support Centre (FBSC)™ - tentative layout plan below - was first conceived in 2000 by Tayo Solagbade, to function as a creative Research/Extension Advisory Services provider.

I will be CROWDFUNDING this project, because it’s designed to be a Not-For-Profit initiative to make the products and services I offer more pocket-friendly and accessible by majority of my target audience.

That’s why YOU are getting notified about it – in case you (or your group/organization/association or club) would like to contribute/invest in it.

As a member of my Farm Business Ideas Club (which comprises persons who have purchased N20k or more worth of products from me) – you fit the target audience profile.

Why?

Because those interested enough in a provider’s products and services to PAY (or want to pay) money to access them, are the ones most likely to favour investing in its evolution or growth.

Here’s an apt quote that underscores the above point:

“The supporters of your crowd funding campaign are your customers. Crowd funding is basically a way to pre-order products before they are produced” – Elite Daily (See http://elitedaily.com/money/why-you-should-crowdfund-your-startup/)

Hundreds of past enquirers and buyers requests tell me this support centre is LONG OVERDUE…

I have received all sorts of requests from people within and outside Africa. since January 2006, when I launched my Cost-Saving Farm Business Ideas Website – now at www.boostyourfarmprofits.biz or www.iff.tayosolagbade.com

Most of them were Farm CEOs – while others were students of agriculture, farm support experts(e.g extension professionals), lecturers, feed makers, NGO operators etc.

In several cases they wanted me to give them the product at hefty discounts or even FREE, but I was unable to oblige them much as I wanted to.

For instance, last year (2014), one Farm CEO from Mexico contacted me about building a custom Ration Formulator app for lactating cows in his Dairy Farm. When I eventually sent him the quote for developing the app, he NEVER got back to me, despite the animated phone conversation we’d had before he asked me to send it.

I knew the fee I’d given him was the likely deal breaker, yet it was the best offer I could make him.

With crowd funding of this Best Practice Support Centre for Farm CEOs, I’ll be able to give MORE of such people what they want, and also CREATE quality time to develop new solutions they tell me they want.

The implication is that I’ll be able to HELP a lot more people that need it, than I’m currently able to – including YOU.

If this opportunity interests you, click here to send me a message requesting for details of how to get involved, and specific ways you’d like to benefit (e.g what you want me to do for you).

LEARN a Foreign Language to Give You More Options for Success Achievement

Less than a month ago, I wrote about Salifou Moumouni, a friend I have here in Benin, when he got married. Below is a photo we took about 2 weeks ago, after he’d returned from Parakou, where the wedding took place.

Less than a month ago, I wrote about Salifou Moumouni, a friend I have here in Benin, when he got married. Below is a photo we took about 2 weeks ago, after he'd returned from Parakou, where the wedding took place.

It was taken on the 8th September 2015, in the mobile phone shop he manages here in Cotonou. I actually stopped over on my way back to Lagos (having only just arrived the night before!) due to the sudden demise of my laptop charger.

The second photo below, was taken just 2 hours ago, this afternoon (Saturday 12th September 2015) in front of the BenAfrique transport company’s bus park, close to Etoile Rouge, here in Cotonou.

With Boco Mahousé - on Saturday 12th September 2015 - in front of the BenAfrique transport company's bus park, close to Etoile Rouge, here in Cotonou

The young man with me in the photo is Boco Mahousé – also a Beninese citizen.

He was one of those I shared a room with back in Calavi, during my first 3 months in Benin Republic, before I later found and rented a room back in Cotonou.

While we were together, he proved himself to be very consistent in character. We met today, for the first time since I left Calavi in 2013. He’d ridden down on his motor bike from Bohicon, to see me.

After a meal and conversations about our plans, we’ve agreed that I’ll be going down to visit him at home hopefully in the coming week, to explore an alternative strategy I’ve settled on regarding relocating my family, and starting a farm based business with my kids.

Now, here’s the main reason – apart from appreciating him – that I’m sharing this bit of news about Mahousé…

You see, he can barely say more than a few greetings in English. But he speaks smart French.

In fact, he has an accent and grammer comprehension of the language, that I consider superior to that of his peers out here.

As a result, if I could not speak the language proficiently, I would NEVER have been able to have the quality of conversation I had with him today.

More importantly, I would NOT have been able to tap from his wealth of knowledge and insights about possibilities, regarding the plans I have in mind.

My point?

It’s that anyone who wants to EXPAND the world of opportunities available to him/her needs to identify and diligently LEARN a foreign language

Back in 1999, I decided French was that language for me, based on the vision I had of becoming a Pan African solutions provider.

Today, the ability to read, write and speak French continues to attract wonderful friendships and opportunities for advancement to me. As things stand, I can competently find my way across West Africa, without problems.

As a result, I’m able to enjoy close to, if not THE BEST of multiple worlds!

I recommend that you do what I’ve done (learn at least one foreign language), so you can avoid being limited by your location, in terms of your achievements..
