As long as you keep a person down, some part of you has to be down there to hold him down, so it means you cannot soar as you otherwise might.” – Marian Anderson
Everybody wants to be successful. But we all define success in different ways.
For some, MONEY is everything. And some of such people want to make – sometimes STEAL! – and KEEP as much of it as possible.
For others, balance is what matters to them.
They want money, but they don’t nurture extreme emotions about getting and keeping it.
In my case, I want enough money to meet my basic needs, BUT I also intend to have UNLIMITED amounts of it, so I CAN always be in a position to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the lives of others – thereby glorifying the Creator further, in my life.
You see, I have a BIG grouse with certain people I see, who:
a. have what they think is a lot of money, and use it to harass, intimidate and abuse others…as a way of “showing” that they are successful or superior.
b. come around others to take anything and everything they can, materially, intellectually or any other possible way – to achieve what they consider “success”.
With regard to the latter, for instance, there are well educated people, some business owners in their own right, guilty of “stealing” from others…
These people habitually seek out their “target” person (who could even be a relative or loved one) and engage him/her in conversation to obtain unfair access to the person’s superior insights. Then they turn around hours, days or later to represent/use what they got as theirs – without giving ANY credit or compensation to the originator!
In my line of work as a knowledge professional, I am primarily engaged in coming up with new ideas for getting ahead in various fields.
For instance, my Web Marketing Systems development strategy is unique to me, and works for me, and those of my clients that use it as I recommend they do.
What I’ve found is that some business owners who are unwilling to acknowledge me openly for my expertise, after learning about what I know/can do, seek me out hiding behind phones and email addresses, trying to pick my brains for ideas they can use to serve their own clients, or their personal interests.
I always respond to them with the same pure thoughts that I relate with others, even though I often “sense” their insincerity.
Indeed, I deliberately overwhelm them with MORE than what they request, but in a manner that makes it VERY difficult to justify coming back to ask for anything else.
In this way, I am able get rid of them quickly, and focus on serving those with whom I can enjoy more EDIFYING (read: win-win) relations!
Whatever your definition of what success is, it is important to ensure that you go about the business of achieving the success you desire, the right way.
And what is the right way?
It is that which does NOT involve hurting or exploiting others to get what you want, or where you want to go.
It is also that which does NOT involve using what you have to oppress or intimidate others.
Indeed, to succeed authentically, for the long term, you must conduct your affairs in your personal, or work life, with kindness and consideration for others.
Simply put, you need to relate with others with positive intent…
With a deliberate desire and effort to leave them better off than when you meet them.
With a passion for going out of your way to helping them get what they tell you (or that you sense) they want or need to advance in life.
By doing that, you align yourself with forces in nature, setup by the Creator, that will ultimately channel streams of material/spiritual benefits to you, as reward.
Note that I say this as one who enjoys such rewards on a regular basis, and at an increasing rate as I become MORE proficient in living this way!
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again – because my life is proof that it is true…
There are laid down laws that govern the universe we live in. Those laws are applicable to ALL of us who live on this planet, as designed by our Creator. Anyone who fails to act in consonance with those laws, effectively incurs negative consequences or penalties.
The mistake many make is that because those penalties do not occur instantly following when they do those wrong things, they assume the penalties do not exist.
In their daily interactions with others, such people routinely, habitually seek to take without giving.
They constantly scheme and plot to dispossess others of material, as well as intellectual property they own. Even when dealing with loved ones or family, they adopt emotionally abusive/exploitative dispositions, that often leave others feeling “used and dumped”.
What they fail to notice is how, over time, they find themselves experiencing seeming inexplicable series of misfortunes, at later periods, when they have long forgotten about what they did wrong.
I am reasonably certain that you have come across one or two persons who interact with negative intent (typically to cheat, or exploit others)…
Years of hardship imposed on me by exposure to such individuals have honed my sixth sense to detect the insincerity such people harbour, within minutes of interaction.
Even when dealing with them remotely, via email or phone, I AM able to correctly detect such negatively motivated people most of the time – using the content and TONE of their enquiries and responses. I mean this!.
In the end, what I feel for such people is mostly pity, because they act the way they do, thinking others are not aware of their insincere motives and actions.
Yet, in reality, they are simply what I like call “Human Ostriches” engaged in the silly game of self-delusion!
The fact is others will eventually come to know them for what they are, and those wise/courageous enough will AVOID being around them.
Indeed, in progressive societies, people who network with such NEGATIVE intent often get called out or shamed/named!
However, even if you’re in a society where such people are seemingly “not penalized”, emulating them would HURT you more than (if at all) help you!
In line with the philosophies of Personal Success Achievement, I have always lived my life as an Increasing Personality i.e. someone who creates an impression of increase everywhere s/he goes. As a result, people often want to have me around.
In contrast, the person who networks with negative intent, is often not one that others eventually decide they would rather not have around them!
Now, here’s what is most noteworthy: People who stick around such negatively motivated people rarely achieve useful personal advancement, and rarely ever GROW, talk less of flourishing, compared to THAT individual!
This is because such persons never want others to surpass them.
They always look for ways to keep others around them DOWN.
Unfortunately, for them, as the quote I began this piece with points out, the efforts they exert to deny others advancement, equally impedes them from progressing as far as they have the God-given potential to go!
This is why I ACTIVELY weed such people out of my Circle of Influence as quickly as possible.
I recommend that you do the same thing, in your personal, work or business life, IF you want to achieve true Self-Actualization!
