Used Correctly, the Internet Can Help You Defeat Failure Repeatedly

Anyone who has been following my writing for a while will most likely have read the stories I’ve told (like THIS one – click to read) about how I’ve used the web for years to achieve income generating name and brand recognition, despite boasting zero capital.

In the process of achieving the above, one reality I have come to accept is that NOT everyone will be pleased that you’re succeeding.

Especially when they know your past.

In my case, every now and then I have encountered naughty, sometimes outright malicious attempts to bring me down – in some cases from the most unexpected quarters.

Truth be told, life is like that.

Many stories abound that attest to the accuracy of the above statement.

I mention the above in relation to what many who pursue success will experience in terms of advancement and setbacks they will find themselves going through in their journey toward success.

There will be a time when you choose to share your plans with persons close to you that you trust, only to discover that they’ve used what you told them to plot your downfall, and ensure you do not achieve the lofty goals you told them about.

People act in this way out of fear, jealousy envy etc.

You will need to LEARN from every such experience so as to avoid repeating the same mistake as you continue in your journey.

For me, I must admit that my entrepreneurial passion made me wear the proverbial rose colored glasses  of newbie entrepreneurs many times, causing me to make those mistakes many more times than I really should have.

As a result, I got burnt so many times that I got to a point at which I almost become totally negative about relating with others. It took me time to learn how to identify – accurately – those persons I could trust and safely relate to.

But by then I’d become just too tired of doing all the hard work needed to screen people to find good ones!

I felt there had to be a safer and less painful way to do the work I loved doing, without needing to worry about getting used and dumped, stabbed in the back etc.

That desire was what led me to adopt the use of the Internet as my primary platform for doing my work.

I took that decision in 2011, after a particularly nasty experience with a long term client whose abusive tendencies I decided I would no longer put up with.

People told me then that I could not work that way in Nigeria/Africa.

To them our societies out here still lacked that trust element to make working 100% online to make money profitably, a realistic possibility.

For me however, my gut level instincts told me it could be done. I did not care that no one seemed to be doing it. I just knew that I could find a way to make it work for myself.

And I eventually did. Though I must admit that it took some time, and got quite messy. A key change I made to really get it right was to relocate from Nigeria’s Lagos to Benin Republic’s Cotonou.

There I gained access to 24/7 electricity at affordable rates that enabled me build my online presence the way I knew it had to be, to generate the leads I wanted.

NB: Like I said above, it got quite messy, before I got it right. For example, THIS article (click to read) narrates the true story about how I slept on the streets of Cotonou and Porto Novo in my first weeks in that country, before eventually finding my feet!).

Today, it is on record that I’ve build my brand selling – repeatedly – to total strangers who have since become clients/friends, using ONLY my Internet presence!

The URLs below will take you to the different aspect of my online presence, through which I have over the past 5 years in particular, delivered custom digital products and services to buyers within and outside Africa at low to zero cost.

The Internet has truly been a blessing to me!

Without it, I would NEVER have achieved anything worthwhile. I would not enjoy the attention and recognition of serious minded business owners, experts and professionals from different parts of the world like I do today.

I have lost count of the number of times total strangers have reached out to me via Google searches they conducted, calling me by name and expressing appreciation for the quality of content I offer via my websites. Then quite often they ended by making a sales enquiry about at least one of my products.

Read true story examples in this article (over 25k views since I posted it on 9 December 2013): No. 119: How to Achieve Success in Any Field (True Story)

All of these have happened despite the fact that I never paid for advertising of any sort.

In other words, just my smart use of the web led to those sales leads. This is why I am such a strong advocate of smart Web Marketing for use in money making by ANYONE who claims they do NOT have money or capital.

I am living proof that you can use the web to achieve repeat business marketing and selling success, even if you have NO MONEY.

As long as you’re willing to learn, and to keep an open, flexible mind, the web offers you limitless opportunities to succeed, no matter the adversity you encounter – and no matter how many times you encounter it!

Central to the successful use of the Internet to succeed in the manner I’ve described above, like I have done, is the use of what I call a Customizable Web Marketing System.

[RECOMMENDED] 27 Ways to Make Money From Your Small Farm

Over the past decade, working as a Digital Multipreneur (click to see my book), one message I’ve hammered on to clients in various industries, is the need to make generation of MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME a habit they adopt and NEVER grow out of.

The World's Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™
An objective look at those who achieve income earning longevity in any area of endeavour in today’s world makes it crystal clear that THAT is the secret to ensuring you achieve and maintain long term financial success and independence.

Even footballers and other sports persons understand the need to live a life based on multiple income streams generation.

That’s why we hear of many famous athletes who own businesses they run in their spare time (or that they hire trusted others to run for them). Many go on to retire into those established businesses thereby ensuring the income earning capacity needed to maintain their preferred lifestyle long after they stop competing.

Farm CEOs need to understand that many valuable opportunities exist for them to add to the base income they earn from selling their main farm products.

Too often I have found many of them excessively focussed on making money from their main farm ventures, so that they completely miss the glaring opportunities to reap potentially lucrative financial and other useful benefits from exploring alternative ways to generate income from the SAME farm business.

And that’s why I find this article, that I recommend via a linked preview below, quite instructive.

The money making ideas suggested are readily adaptable for use in farm businesses in more or less any socioeconomic environment – be it in a developed or developing society.

I therefore urge you to read it with an open mind, and let your creative mind kick in to think up ways you can apply them to meet your unique farm business needs.

You have NOTHING to lose, and so much to gain by doing so!

PII 116: Why Poultry Farming May be Too Risky For Most Nigerians Today

The excitement created when stakeholders discuss the lucrative nature of poultry farming business, can sometimes be misleading.

Truth is, poultry farming, despite being profitable, can be quite challenging to startup – and run = successfully.

It takes lots of hard work!

This accuracy of the above statement is apparent, when the painful realities facing most poultry farm businesses since late 2016 till date (April 2018) are considered – as captured in the interview granted by a Kano based Poultry Farm CEO – Alhaji Aminu Adamu (see below).

For those familiar with developments in Nigeria’s poultry industry, the fact that many businesses have suffered major setbacks due to a combination of negative socioeconomic factors is not new.

Unfortunately, the situation has generally been grossly under reported, making many people unaware of just how bad things have been for poultry farm businesses.

Due to the nature of my work, which involves providing a range of unique products and services to livestock farm CEOs, over the past decade or so, I have been priviledged to get timely and detailed access to most of the relevance news.

What’s more, I have actually known several cases of farm business that have since shut down as a result of the unfavourable developments that have occurred in the poultry industry.

News report interviews like that done by Daily Trust newspaper (see below) which was published at the early stages of the crises back in April 2017, if given the widespread circulation it deserved, may have alerted stakeholders and government to the problem that was brewing at the time.

The Farm CEO interviewed in that report was Chairman of Kano based Nana Farms, Alhaji Aminu Adamu – and he was crystal clear in giving his warning about the dangers ahead, which have now become our reality today

Hers’s a quote from him that I feel aptly captured the seriousness of the problem:

“What we have experienced in poultry business from the end of 2016 to date, we have never experienced it before. One, there was unprecedented increase in the price of raw materials for the feed with amaze selling as high as N150,000 per ton. A bag of 25klg of layers’ feed that is used to be sold at N1,300 is being sold at N3,600 and this bag can only feed 200 birds per day.” – Alhaji Adamu Adamu, Chairman of Nana Farms,

Alhaji Adamu noted that the problems being experienced were threathening the livelihood of over 15 million Nigerians who earn their living from poultry farming.

He then – rightly – recommended that all levels of governmnet work with poultry farmers to solve the problems before things got out of control – causing avoidable collateral damage to the industry.

‘Why poultry business faces bleak future in Nigeria’
https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/agriculture/-why-poultry-business-faces-bleak-future-in-nigeria/195208.html

poultry-bi-bleak
3 key problems he identified  were as follows:
1. Crazy hike (over double) in prices ofpoultry feed = this was due to combined scarcity and increased prices of key ingredients like Maize and Soyabean among others.
2. Uncontrolled importation of frozen chicken which continued to deny local producers the needed patronage from consumers.of poultry meat
3. Poor purchase of eggs leading to severe glut that forced farmers to sell below cost price just to keep going.

Since most farmers lack the resources, financially and otherwise to meet their needs for the feed ingredients required for feed production, most of them who were unable to cope had to either cut down their output or shut down their operations completely.

The poor response of government to the problem as it got worse through 2017 is what has now led to the situation we have today in the poultry industry – despite the potential we all know it has.
Several clients in my network have been so disillusioned and told me they no longer wish to engage in poultry farming, following this bad experience.
And that is why I believe it would be VERY unwise for any persons who do not have the means to ensure access to all the needed resources in adequate amounts at the right time, to venture into poultry farming at the moment. Things are simply  not right for small players, even medium ones, to do so for now.
For those already in the business, the key to survival will be paying close attention to cutting down costs in terms of time, effort, money and resources used. Best practice at all levels must be enforced. Otherwise, you may have little to cheer about at the end of your production cycle.

It goes withou saying, however, that if the needed support is provided to boost supply of key ingredients and inputs needed for poultry farming, this business is one that interested persons can definitely look to  profit handsomely from.

Many have done so in the past, to the extent of even passing their ventures down across several generations. It’s a business that is self-sustaining when the conditions are right.
The onus is on the Nigerian government to create those conditions in the industry, especially if it wants to make poultry farming truly attractive to millions of youths looking for worthwhile work to venture into!

[RECOMMENDED] The A-Z of making your own quality chicken feed at home to cut costs

In this recommended article, the author makes the case for farmers to formulate their own feed based on the fact that many feed makers fail to produce livestock feed that conform to the required standards.

This is an argument I have used (along with the cost-saving benefits of making your own feed) for years to encourage many of my Farm CEO clients in and out of Africa to stop buying commercial feeds and start formulating/compounding what they can be sure will deliver the right nutrient profile to their animals.

My popular Feed Formulation Handbook and Excel-VB Driven Ration Formulation Software were developed to help interested Farm CEOs safely explore this option.

Practical Livestock Feed Formulation Handbook

Practical Livestock Feed Formulation Handbook

Sadly, developments in the recent past in the Nigerian market have seen prices and availability of key feed ingredients like Maize and Soyabean go so crazy and unpredictable that small producers have found it impractical to continue making their own feed.

As a result many have gone back to buying from commercial feed manufacturers. And some have been forced to shut down their operations – especially those in the poultry sector.

Several of my clients have confided in me that things got so bad that they could not go on – especially when it became apparent that little or no support could be had from the government.

What upset me even more was the fact that all this was allowed to happen at a time when the government was supposedly trying to attract young people to farming by showing that it can be profitable to invest in!

Imagine what the average youth would think if/when s/he sees or hears about farms closing down due to such unfavorable environmental circumstances as those that have plagued the farm businesses described above?!

Sometimes I feel that Nigeria and her leadership simply do not want the best for the country – inspite of what they say. Otherwise, why on earth should this happen to farm CEOs at this time?

Notwithstanding the above, however, the wisdom offered in the article I recommend via a linked preview below, remains VALID and VALUABLE for adoption by any livestock farm owner. I urge you to read and put it to use.

The A-Z of making your own quality chicken feed at home to cut costs

Except for a few feed manufacturers who keep to the standards in poultry feed formulations, many feed companies in the country make very poor quality feeds, a situation which has led huge losses.

Poor quality feeds lead to a slow growth in chickens, low egg production, diseases or even death. Making poultry feeds on the farm is one of the best ways to maintain quality and cut the cost of production.

The common ingredients are whole maize, maize germ, cotton seed cake, soya beans, sunflower or fish meal (omena).

PII 115:  To Kill Unemployment, Treat People With Vocational Skills With EQUAL Respect (and Remuneration) as Those With University Degrees! [True Story – Remi, a Lagos Based Entrepreneur, Shows Sapele Youths How to Make Ankara Bags and Shoes]

On day 3 of the 3 day Youth Conference on Vocational Skills Acquisition organized by. B.H.F Foundation (recall on day 2 of 3 I conducted my training on How to Make Drinks You Can Sell Using Pineapple Peels), we had a smart young entrepreneur named Remi  teach the over 230 youths how to make Ankara Bags and Shoes.

remi-2

remi-3

remi-4

Below: Beginning stages of the process of making Ankara slippers – notice the shoe last (or mould)

My phone battery shut down before this session ended. Luckily we had 2 photographer/video men who captured it all, so DVDs are to be produced.

remi5

remi6

Over a 4 hour period, this highly skilled young man painstakingly demonstrated the process of making what he called a “Box Bag” (see photos below) and also how to make smart slippers – both with beautiful Ankara fabrics.

We had been expecting him to join us since Monday, but he’d had to stay back to ensure the first half of a client order was safely dispatched to its overseas destination.

In other words, this chap actually produces his custom bags, and shoes for both local and export markets.

Further discussion with him revealed that he’s been in the business for about 8 years now.

Dropped out from Secondary School due to lack of funds. Found his way back to school via technical education where he learned the basics of shoe making. He however noted that he learnt the art of Ankara bag and shoe making by studying YouTube Videos -adding that ANYONE can do what he does today, if s/he is willing to invest the time and effort required to learn the same way – at more or less zero cost.

I have shared the above to underscore a point I’ve been making for YEARS that education needs to be functional.

This young man is not only gainfully self-employed, but he also offers a few people income earning opportunities to work with him.

On top of that, he offers training and coaching for interested persons to learn how to do what he does.

Many of our so called graduates carrying B.Sc and M.Sc degree certificates from local and foreign universities around looking for increasingly hard to find jobs fail to realize they can do much more for themselves by exploring entrepreneurship – especially via acquisition and use of income earning vocational skills that are IN DEMAND in their societies!

Rather than repeat myself all over again, in yet another “preachy” article, I feature below, previews and links to 2 news reports that illustrate VIVIDLY the fact that even those coming back home with “hot” university degrees obtained from foreign universities are NOT getting the jobs they thought they could get.

And they are certainly NOT getting the kinds of salaries they thought their expensively acquired degrees would command. Indeed, as the Sunday Punch report below shows, many are finding themselves being passed over for graduates from local private universities!

It’s so bad that many of them, in spite of the many millions they spent getting their degrees from abroad, have today put them aside and embraced self-employment via vocations like custom shoe making – and as the case of Agu proves, despite being initially mocked by colleagues, they are actually doing quite well.

The above reality – and the fact that many others who continue to venture abroad to study, face increasingly tough conditions to pay their fees and living expenses, resulting in serious and humiliating hardships, PROVE that pursuing paper qualifications NO LONGER works like it used to.

Read: I Am Now Depending On Friends For Food And Shelter – Nigerian Man Studying Abroad

Today’s society rewards people with skills more readily than it does those without them. At the least, you want to arrive in the market place with both academic competence AND market relevant skills.

Dashed hopes: Returnee graduates struggle as employers snub foreign degrees

returmee-graduates

This much was said by the graduates interviewed in the reports I feature above, as well as the HR consultants whose opinions were sought by the reporter.

The truth is that our conventional schooling system – the one that emphasizes near exclusive book learning – no longer works and needs to be totally overhauled.

The smart parent – and student – would do well to make the needed changes in what s/he chooses to learn NOW, rather than wait for the school teachers, lecturers, administrators or policy makers to do what needs to be done.

That’s what I’m doing for my kids and it is why I’m offering any interested parents, teachers or policy makers FREE download access to the PDF pre-publication edition of my paper titled “Schooling is a Means to an End and NOT an End In Itself”.

My PDF report features links to a video that compares Job Training in the USA with that done in Germany – and it points out a GLARING shortcoming of what is done in the USA and explains why Germany’s approach enables it boast one of the lowest youth unemployment rates in the world.

I believe Nigeria can LEARN a lot from that video -and that we can drastically cut down unemployment in our country if we adopt a similar model to Germany’s in which people with vocational skills get treated with EQUAL respect (and remuneration) as those with college or university degrees!

Remi, this young custom Ankara shoe and bag making entrepreneur who trained youths on day 3 of the Youth Conference in Sapele, is a model of what is possible. So many of our young people can be gainfully self-employed like Remi is, IF they would only embrace vocational skills acquisition.

I explain with elaborate examples and illustrations, including true stories about my personal experiences and those of others, in my PDF report. Click here to learn more.

PII 114 [EVENT VIDEO & PHOTOS] How to Make Drinks You CAN SELL from Pineapple Peels – True Story

I was VERY PROUD  of my girls for doing this public service, using one of several skills they possess.

It is said that one of the best ways to one of the best ways to get better at something you know is to teach it. Teaching forces you go out your way to fill in any gaps you may in your know-how, because you’ll want to make sure your learner “gets it”!

I’ve found this to be true and I’m using it to help my kids to take their mastery to the next level (this includes their baking, hairstyling etc).!

In a few days from now (13th April 2018 to be exact), my “Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying and Stopping It” Facebook page will clock 1 year (12 months) old, since I launched it.

During the past year, it’s been interesting to see people following the page despite the fact that I have not gone out of my way to create ANY awareness about it, other than publishing new content every other month or so. More interesting has been the fact that those who have LIKED the page have been BOTH male and female!

The above tells me that this page’s message resonates with growing number of people.

On my part, as I note in the 2 audio podcasts I’ve just published in my SoundCloud.com channel, there are MANY men who are suffering in silence as victims of Domestic Violence, because little if at all ANY provision is made to address their needs where it relates to a situation in which their intimate FEMALE partners are the aggressors/abusers in the relationshop.

For those not aware of it, DVAM is a BIG problem that is hidden because few men have the courage to report it, and also because most of those assigned to tackle issues of Domestic Violence tend to focus on Women and Children to the exclusion of men.

My purpose is to influence a change in that narrative – and I AM using my platform here at TayoSolagbade.com to do what I can to draw attention to the need for a change in this trend that currently exists which puts men at a disadvantage.

These 2 Zero Cost Strategies Can Boost Your Gym Marketing Success [Partner with Solagbade’s Discover Cotonou Mobile Fitness Club]

This article is based on an email message I recently sent to the manager of a Lagos based fitness club branch, after I visited the facility and was taken round by one of her instructors.

In line with my passion for sharing my smart marketing insights with other business owners, I decided to send her this message in form of feedback about 2 things I identified could be done to boost chances of increased leads generation happening.

If you run a fitness club or gym, you may find the ideas I offer below of potential use and benefit. Click here to send me a message if you would like to partner with my Discover Cotonou Mobile Fitness Club.

Hey Madam,

Thanks for taking time to speak with me and my son when we came over earlier today.

I have a vision to PROMOTE a serious interest in healthy and fit living amongst Nigerians/Africans in particular.

As a result, my interest in building a relationship with your outfit goes beyond considerations of any financial gains that may accrue from doing business with you.

For instance, starting from this month (April) I will be adding names and details of as many health and fitness clubs I can find along the Lagos - Cotonou axis which I will then use as a basis for offering information and education to travelers who are fitness enthusiasts (my primary target audience).

To that end, regardless of how my offers to you end up, I will be reaching out to you at some point to schedule an appointment for a short (15 to 30 minute interview) that I will be using to gather details for my database.

Now, I feel a need to offer you some feedback based on our visit to your gym.

This is based on my experiences, observations and review of similar outfits to yours, with regard to their marketing operations - both within and outside Africa.

I noticed 2 important things missing from your operations today, based on my personal experience while visiting

1. NO Gym Sales Lead Database Generation

Marketing is the lifeblood of ANY business. Sales conversations must constantly be happening, for sales conversations to take place. The instrument for creating sales conversation opportunities is a SALES LEADS DATABASE - it's a list (with details) of potential clients you can contact based on their interest in what you sell.

Whenever people walk in to a gym (or indeed any other enterprise), it can be quite useful to get them to fill a form that captures information you can use to reach out to them later on. Some may signup and become members, but others may not. Both will however be useful to contact, as a way of not just keeping in touch/reminding them to visit the gym, but also to follow up with them to join up.

I did not see any such form on your reception desk, neither did I see it being handed out to. or filled by clients that were in the gym.

This is different from a Membership Records Database - it is for PROSPECTS who have yet to signup as members. Experts in the fitness business recommend that gyms make it a rule to get WALK IN prospects to fill such forms before they leave. There are ways to use that information that can yield massive benefits

2. NO Needs Analysis BEFORE Giving A Gym Tour to a NEW Prospect/Lead

Again, I refer to this as a recommendation widely made by successful fitness gym business owners. They noted that it is never wise to take a potential client on what is called a "Disney Tour". This is because quite often, the individual will have unique needs that s/he is looking to meet at the gym.

If you want him/her to feel YOUR gym is the right one for her, ALL the communication you do with him/her MUST let him/her see that you UNDERSTAND his/her needs and are prepared to tailor the solution you offer to meet it.

You can TELL him/her that, but it is always better to SHOW rather than TELL. And the best way to SHOW is to ASK QUESTIONS, preferably by getting him/her to fill a NEEDS ANALYSIS form that will then be reviewed by your fitness expert as a basis for deciding what kind of TOUR of your facility is needed!

I am able to say the above, based on the personal experience I had during my visit today, with my son.

I came in with a specific set of needs in mind, mainly relating to the goal my son and I have agreed he is to aim for by usuing a gym we settle on.

In order to establish if your gym would help us in that regard, I asked your instructor, who you asked to take us round, a set of pointed questions about what facilities could be used to achieve what outcomes.

However if a Needs Analysis form had been designed for your gym, based on a review of the past experiences you've had as a team, providing fitness solutions to your clients, it would have simply been given to me,.

Then I would simply have completed it, giving your man a better idea of what to SHOW me (or indeed other leads/prospects) who visit your gym and where to focus in providing explanations etc.

Note that the 2 points I've made above, apply to SALES LEADS generation BOTH off and ON the web. In the latter case (i.e online), a variety of methods can be exploited.

By way of interest, if your company becomes my client, I WILL actually do 1 and 2 for you, and more of that kind of sales leads generation strategies, at no extra charge, as part of the implementation of a comprehensive Web Marketing System.

I hope you find these ideas of some use.

They are offered to you with my compliments as a gesture of goodwill.

However I do believe I can add greater value to your company by developing a comprehensive Web Marketing Strategy that enables you achieve 1 and 2 on and off the web, and more.

With kindest regards,

Tayo

[RECOMMENDED] Do You Know How To Deal With People Who Mock And Ridicule You? (Syndicated Version)

I wrote this article over a decade ago, less than 5 years after I quit my job to become self-employed. It was a period when I was experiencing a lot of repeat rejection from potential clients, especially as I tried to find buyers for my Excel-Visual Basic Automation solutions.

Many people simply ignored me (or my letters/flyers) while some walked me out of their offices.

But some went out of their way, to mock and ridicule me in ways that remain so painful for me to remember even now.

I will however add that what they was what I ended up using to inspire myself to succeed in creating a lucrative niche market for my Excel Heaven Visual Basic Automation products and services – which have since been purchased by clients within and outside Africa.

Read this article (which has been widely syndicated online – see examples here) to learn the exact ideas I used to enable myself to succeed inspite of ANY mockery and ridicule directed at me. Apply them as recommended and you WILL become UNSTOPPABLE, like I am!

[DVAM] Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence. by Edward Rhymes]

I continue my STOP Domestic Violence Against Men (DVAM) Campaign by featuring this powerfully eye opening report about a serious aspect of the Domestic Violence epidemic that most of society is missing – but thankfully, MORE and MORE experts are beginning to identify and call attention to i.e. that women have been found, many times to BE the abuser in cases of DV, and we need to address SUCH situations!

Woman As Aggressor: The Unspoken Truth Of Domestic Violence [There’s something very important that we’re not talking about when we talk about domestic violence.  by Edward Rhymes]

Let’s put this into perspective: a significant amount of the findings regarding male-as-victim intimate partner violence came about as the result of studies and surveys that were aimed at understanding domestic violence against women. These are not studies conducted by rabid anti-women men’s groups or right-wing think tanks. They were conducted by organizations like the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, the American Sociological Association, Psychology of Women Quarterly and the American Journal of Public Health, to name a few.
