[RECOMMENDED] Why are Nigerians fleeing Nigeria? – Quora.com responder says “Nigeria is the land of cunning people. I can’t cope because I have no cunning bone in me”.

This Quora contributor’s additional responses to the question of “Why Nigerians are fleeing Nigeria” perfectly captured my sentiments – especially number 2:

“Nigeria is the land of cunning people. I can’t cope because I have no cunning bone in me”.

In addition, the points made by 2 other contributors, one of who still lives in Nigeria (and therefore should know), are in agreement with the views I’ve expressed about the country’s future prospects.

It’s sad, but true. Unless a miracle of unprecedented proportions happens, there is NO HOPE for Nigeria or those who live in it.

In other words, I honestly do not believe they simply can ever change, for the better.

PII 140: True Story – “Tayo Solagbade – Steroid Man” [Authentic Success Leaves a Trail – 3 Key Attributes You Need to Achieve It]

This week, I share a verbatim reproduction of a “news report” that was “published” on notice boards about me at the end of my final undergraduate year, by a member of the PRESS team in my university campus hall of residence. This was after I’d led the hall’s Handball team to a first ever victory at the 1992 edition of the University of Ibadan’s Annual Inter-Halls competition.

Now this may appear self-serving, but my ultimate purpose for reproducing this piece (see photo below of photocopied version I obtained before leaving campus) is really to highlight key attributes I possessed back then, which helped me succeed.

Examples:

  1. works like a “steroid user”
  2. resilient attitude
  3. determined to hit the top, trained extra hard

  3. determined to hit the top, trained extra hard

The above were what the author commended me for in that report, and they have since helped me succeed repeatedly in every other area of endavour I have ever ventured, since leaving the university.

My message therefore is for YOU to understand that not only does authentic success leave a trail, but that achieving IT it in ANY field, will often require that YOU develop and actively use similar attributes.

====Start of 1992 News Report published on Independence Hall’s Notice Board=====

TAYO SOLAGBADE – STEROID MAN

[NB: U.I. = University of Ibadan]

He was once summoned by the Chief Coach of U.I (Handball) for drug test, but it was all a joke. Yes, he works like a steroid user, he is a final year Agricultural Extension “first class level” student, Abeokuta indigene of Ogun state. He is of the twenties bracket, a demagogue, pedant, patriot, agnostic, a primus-inter-pares, and he is not impious.

This young man, ever since he got admission into this citadel of learning, some five years ago, and out of his love for handball joined the Indy (Independence Hall) Handball team and was consequently invited to join the U.I Handball team (that was in his first year too). From them on, he has been consistent in the team and in his training too.

Due to his resilient attitude (after losing form for some years), and determined to hit the top, trained extra hard in camp, and this attitude towards success of his, earned him the (nickname) – STEROID MAN. His colleagues in camp, due to their laziness (would) not allow him lead any of their training sessions. Watch him in training and you’ll understand!

During the Inter Halls Competition (which Handball is an entry), Indy Hall has participated and never won despite having some U.I. stars amongst them. And this year was about becoming the one of those years until TAYO (SOLAGBADE) being in his final year, and determined to make lifting the cup for Indy a parting gift, and out of sheer determination, assembled some players together for early morning session trainings (constant early morning whistling heard by Independites is by him). This was consistently done for days and the end justified the means, as Kuti Hall was battered, Zik Hall (our terrorist for years) fell into the hands of Tayo (in fact, he scored the fastest, most spectacular “shocking” goal during the Indy-Zik meet) the hall of “LAME” inhabited by “Tedderats” refused to show up for the finals and so Indy won the Handball tournament (the only tournament won during the Inter Halls competition).

U.I Chief Coach Nwosu even commented about the Indy-Zik match saying (quote) “Indy played the match of their lives and Tayo was in his best” unquote.

[Note to reader: See my 2007 article titled “Become A Habitual Peak Performer – Learn How To Get Into Flow Or – The Zone More Frequently” – in which I narrate details of an experience I had while playing that match]

tks-flow-storyOK

Despite Zik’s delay tactics and importation of Papa (a good player from Lagos), Zik fell. Tayo was seriously “cut-out”, but due to the match plan he had previously, the job was left for Collins, Yomi Oduguwa, Kayode Abbas, Deji, Dicta and Bambo, not forgetting Bammy (Oh he was good), and they had the job perfectly done.

It is my surprise that after years of playing Handball for Indy and U.I., and being the only event won this year, due to the patriotism shown by Tayo (and the dedicated efforts of his colleagues) the Sports Commissioner and Indy exco refused to accord the Indy team its place during the annual dinner, making it a point for all Handballers to boycott the dinner. So that explains why Tayo and his colleagues were absent during award/recognition.

I look forward to a situation whereby Indy Hall exco should not be ingrates (especially Sports Commissioner), by at least making him realize his worth by organizing a send-forth or make sure that of the N30,000 generated by the exco, he is given a parting present.

I learnt he may come back for his Masters programme. By then Awo or Balewa should be watched out for. With him leaving us now (and maybe “as I heard” his eventually playing International/professional) Collins will now be bestowed the opportunity of seeing Tayo’s pet to constant fruition and maturity. Bammy too is not left out. Handball is now gaining prominence, being world’s second fastest game. TAYO (SOLAGBADE), Indy Press wishes you the best in your future endeavours. BRAVO.

[RECOMMENDED] Education that can’t create jobs is useless –Ngige

This news report quoting Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, resonates greatly with me, because the minister’s expresses a view that perfectly captures the sentiments I have repeatedly expressed about today’s conventional schooling system.

It uses an obsolete curriculum which does VERY little to prepare learners to achieve income earning success post-schooling. Thanks to Adebowale Temitope for sending me the link to this report.

Like I have told anyone who cared to listen, THIS is why I temporarily pulled my kids out of the schooling system and immersed them in various vocational skills based training experiences, to complement their academic education. I believe today’s schools need a total overhaul of their curricula, to include at least 50% vocational skills training on a daily basis for learners.

Read: [BPP] This 2016 Viral Video Sues “School” for Killing Creativity, Individuality and being Intellectually Abusive

Enough of the time, money and effort wasting excessive focus on exclusive book based learning. Education needs to be customized for each learner. Our schools need to accept this, if they want to produce “graduates’ who don’t end up unemployable, and incapable of self-employment.

Education that can’t create jobs is useless –Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, says education that is not directed towards job creation is useless.

Ngige, therefore, said there was a need for schools to revise their current curricular to reflect modern challenges and development, according to a statement by the Director of Press at the Ministry of Labour, Samuel Olowookere.

PII 138: VIDEO – Ugandan Lawrence Okettayot’s Garden Waste Powered Dryer Boosts Farmer Profits by 400% and Reduces Food Waste by 75%

This week, I offer a verbatim text transcript of a BBC News series report about an excellent invention by a young Ugandan, which has serious potential to solve Africa’s severe food waste crisis. If you are a crop farmer, this is one video you MUST watch.

sparky-bbc

==STARTS===

[Video Text] Could Lawrence Okettayot hold the answer to Africa’s food waste crisis?

sparky-dryer-first-slide

He’s on a road trip across Uganda to find out.

Lawrence Okettayot: “When you talk to someone they’re like, ‘Man, how do you think you’re going to accomplish this? There are European white people out there who have done a lot of technology. And you’re just a mere African. How do you think you are going to make this thing go big?”

[Video Text] There’s a lot of food waste in Africa. Enough to fee 300 million people every year.

So this is Lawrence’s solution.

It’s called a Sparky Dryer.

Powered by garden waste, it dehydrates fruits and vegetables, extending the shelf life from two days, to two years.

Lawrence Okettayot: So, this is our very own first prototype of the Sparky Dryer.

This is our heat source here.

Then this is the drying chamber, where we dehydrate all our products from.

[Video text] Lawrence is now taking the Sparky Dryer to the world.

Starting in remote northern Uganda.

The people here are still recovering from 20 years of brutal conflict that almost destroyed their farming way of life.

Lawrence Okettayot: We have lost quite a lot of people. So basically we lost how to do a lot of faming and agriculture.

[Video text] The problems here sparked the Sparky Dryer idea

So it happened when I was discussing with my uncle, and I asked him “What is really the problem with agriculture? Because you are telling me you wanted to leave farming and do some other things like building.”

Then he was like “You know the main problem is when we harvest our product, it’s quite hard for us to store all of it, because we don’t have any other means of storing it, like preserving it.”

[VIDEO TEXT] Browsing the market in the town of Kitgum reveals that more than a third of everything grown here goes to waste.

Lawrence Okettayot: When I see rotten vegetables like these…these quite inspire me to keep on going, so that next time when I get here, I don’t see anything like this. I only see nice fruit, dried fruits and dried vegetables around.

[VIDEO TEXT] But so far Lawrence has only sold seven Sparky Dryers. And one of those was to his uncle. So far has the Sparky Dryer has helped Uncle Joe?

[Uncle Joe] Before the Sparky Dryer, we were wasting a lot of our income. And we were so really poor because of that thing. We could not even take our children at school, because there was no money.

[VIDEO TEXT] But now Uncle Joe can dry his crops in just a few hours, every day. Come rain or shine. So he no longer wastes 75^ of his harvest. In fact, he wastes nothing. And he’s made enough extra money, to pay for this new building on his farm.

[Uncle Joe] When you take these two mangoes in the market, you will get only 500 shillings. A mango like this one, when it is dried, you will get 1000 shillings out of it.

[VIDEO TEXT] So the Sparky Dryer has increased Uncle Joe’s income by 400%.Just what Lawrence wanted to hear. And on the way back to Kitgum there’s more good news. Another order for a Sparky Dryer.

So the product works and demand is growing.

But will that be enough to make the Sparky Dryer a life-changing African innovation?

[Dr. Roy William Mayega – Resilient African Network] People in Uganda tend to prefer products made elsewhere, trusting that this thing really works better, if it comes, let’s say, from outside of Africa, or from some other country that they consider credible.

So that is a real issue that we need to change.

[VIDEO TEXT] But maybe that change has just begun…with Lawrence and his Sparky Dryer innovation.

Lawrence Okettayot: We want to scale this up to reach East Africa, then South African and other parts of the world. And by doing that, I’ll be the happiest man on Earth because I would have saved quite a lot of people going hungry every day.

TOP QUALITY READY MADE SHOES AT UNBELIEVABLY LOW PRICES – From Emeka’s Handicraft RESELLERSHIP

I bought a brand new pair of these Flip-on Leather Ankle Boots for N15,000.0 on 27th September 2018 and wore them to a dinner event I was invited a night later at Excel Events Centre, Oregun, Ikeja – Lagos.

Not only did they fit perfectly, and match the Full Ready Made Traditional Outfit I purchased for N19,500.0 (Aso Ofi cap included), but I also got lots of compliments and questions about where I got them.

So I decided to meet and discuss with the company that makes them, about getting my 17 year old son, who sells his custom handmade shoes, a reseller arrangement with them.

Now, he offers shoes like mine, (and others shown below) in addition to his hand made creations to single & bulk buyers.

PII 137 – Commandment No. 8 of 10: You Shall NEVER be Satisfied With Whatever Web Marketing Success You Achieve

My experiences have taught me that it is when your WMS is working well that one MUST actively seek newer and better ways to succeed with it.

In this commandment, I propose something that’s likely to initially sound improper but is actually EXPEDIENT for your success. NEVER being satisfied with Web Marketing success you achieve means you MUST NEVER stop Researching, and Investigating New Ideas & Strategies to succeed MORE than you already have.

Generally, especially in the spiritual sense, contentment is regarded a positive attribute that one would do well to cultivate. However, where BUSINESS MARKETING is concerned, especially as it relates to generating sales leads, being contented would be an UNWISE state of mind to develop. This is because in business you will be in constant competition with others who do what you do, so complacency will NOT benefit you!

There are 2 areas of what you do, that this commandment addresses:

(a). Delivering the product/service/solution to clients you recruit using your WMS such that they express SATISFACTION

(b). Using your WMS to find, and attract MORE potential buyers to win over in a manner that yields useful profits.

These 2 things seem straightforward, but doing them can prove to be quite challenging for most people.

Ignore the Macho Myth™: Asking for Help Means You’re Truly Strong [Advice for Battered MEN]

Below is an excerpt from my recent report on the symposium I attended on Domestic Violence, which I’ve turned into a special one page image flyer offering ADVICE for battered men. Download and share to any person(s) you feel will find it useful.

“Even the fictional superman gets helped every now and then – and by little kids too (because unlike him, they are immune to Kryptonite). Refuse societal pressures to endure abuse to prove you’re strong, or because it’s what a man does. Nothing could be further from the truth. This quote, by a moderator at the 2018 Symposium organized by the Lagos State DSVRT puts it better:

“If boys were not meant to cry, they would not have tear glands.”

Understand that YOU, being male, are a human being, with feelings and emotions – just like women and children. The longer you stay exposed to abuse, the more damage it does to you. It will take its toll, wearing you down, until you crack. So, if you’re experiencing abuse, be it physical, emotional or psychological, from someone who refuses to stop, GET AWAY NOW, and seek help FAST.

Your manhood is not proven by a refusal to protect yourself from harm. That’s not bravery, that’s foolhardiness. It’s not strength, it’s stupidity. Asking for help will NOT make you any less of a man. Get help NOW, before something happens that you, and/or your abuser may end up regretting.” – Tayo K. Solagbade

[RECOMMENDED] 5 Ways Narcissists Compensate for Their Inferiority

“Some people try to be tall by cutting off the heads of others.” — Paramahansa Yogananda

The above quote is taken from the expert article I’ve previewed/linked below, written by Prof. Preston Ni (Author of ” How to Successfully Handle Narcissists”, and “A Practical Guide for Narcissists to Change Towards the Higher Self”).

The article in discussing 5 attributes of persons “Narcissistic Personality Disorder” has opened my eyes to the fact that I KNOW two people with this disorder.

And I NOW understand why they act the way they do – which has deeply bothered me for YEARS!

Sadly, with regard to author’s question “Can a narcissist change for the better? “, what I know about BOTH persons from over a decade and a half of interacting with each one of them, convinces me they are simply incapable of changing for the better.

One must therefore try as hard as possible to minimize contact with them, to avoid negative consequences that often result from doing so.

To put it another way: i consider both of them toxic personalities. My experiences tell me maintaining good mental health requires being able to identify persons with this disorder, so as to effectively manage their impact on oneself.

This is why I strongly recommend that YOU read it.

Good luck!

5 Ways Narcissists Compensate for Their Inferiority

Posted Jul 29, 2018

“Some people try to be tall by cutting off the heads of others.” — Paramahansa Yogananda

“However other people make you feel is always a reflection of how the world makes them feel.” — Anonymous psychologist

The Mayo Clinic research group defines narcissistic personality disorder as “a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.”

[BPP] This 2016 Viral Video Sues “School” for Killing Creativity, Individuality and being Intellectually Abusive

[NB: BPP = Best Practice Parenting]

This 2016 viral video (Over 10 million views & 25k comments between YouTube and Facebook in its first FOUR days!) perfectly captures the essence of the message I’ve been preaching about the SERIOUS FLAWS in our Modern Schooling System that make learners’ exposure to it, insufficient preparation for success achievement.

Click here to download the slideshow

I only watched it for the first time 2 days ago (on 2nd Oct. 2018), but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find key points, examples, analogies, and illustrations it uses are some of those I discussed in my 2018 published 62 page paper titled “Schooling is a Means to an End, and NOT an End In Itself” and the shorter sequel “Stop Letting Nigerian Schools Cheat You and Your Childe.g the quote about school “making fish climb trees” & references to Finland, Khan Academy, Montessori etc.

Click the link or the thumbnail image of the cover below, to download and read the verbatim text transcript slideshow I’ve prepared/watch the video at the end, to LEARN why you need to DEMAND TOTAL OVERHAUL of the School System.

prince-ea-on-schools-slideshow-cover

Click here to download the slideshow

TIP: Join my WhatsApp group to get download link to a mobile friendly MP4 version of the video you can watch offline (see instructions below)

Published as a Spoken Word Poetic rendition by the rapper Prince EA in 2016, this video boldly calls out the Modern Day Schooling System for its potentially “lethal” negative impact on learners.

This video explains why/how modern day schooling may hurt your child.

The compelling case made against today’s ANTIQUATED schooling system, uses a court room prosecution style against a symbolic representative of the schooling system (as defendant).

If your society refuses (or is slow) to eliminate those negatives, it’s up to you to protect your child from them and provide him/her what is missing from available schooling.

Only persons UN-willing to be objective will fault the arguments presented in this video… and in my White Paper/the sequel to it

Click here to download the slideshow

Like I’ve repeatedly said in my writing, on this theme, the harmful attributes of our schooling system, coupled with endemic corruption, drove me to (temporarily) withdraw my kids from the system, and develop/implement an alternative educational model, that I call a Vocational Skills Based Educational System.

My adopted approach involves use of a tool I call a “Life Skills Training Matrix” that enables me customize learning for each child, based on his/her unique needs, interests and talents/gifts, so s/he end up with useful competence to succeed in or out of paid employment.

Text me your WhatsApp Number via +234-803-302-1263 (not my WhatsApp no!) and I’ll add you to my Best Practice Parenting™ group where download links to my 62 page White Paper and the 17 page report sequel are accessible.

The Life Skills Training Matrix is a tool I developed to CUSTOMIZE education for EACH of my kids to ensure they actualize their full God given potentials in life by maximizing their unique gifts/talents.

I strongly recommend that other parents adopt a similar approach to ensure their kids get a truly balanced education that equips them to achieve financial and material success, with fulfilment in life.

For those looking for help, I offer a special Best Practice Parenting Coaching program for members of groups and organisations, in which I explain how to design a custom Life Skills Training Matrix for ANY child – or indeed ANY adult…and how to use it.

[TRUE STORY] Success Rarely Comes by Accident – You Achieve it Through Hard Work, Courage and Faith (With Persistence)

When man…is pushed, tormented, defeated, he has a chance to learn something; he has been put on his wits, on his manhood, he has gained facts, learns from his ignorance, is cured of the insanity of conceit; has got moderation and real skill.” – Emerson

The photo shown below, was taken at a time (September 2013 – 6 months after I relocated to Cotonou) when I had just emerged from one of the most challenging periods of adversity in my life as an entrepreneur.

I had been sorely tested…but thankfully, I got through it and achieved success, because I had been READY for the challenges that were thrown at me.

[TIP: I strongly recommend you read my December 2012 article titled “You Will be Sorely Tested” linked below. It offers elaborate insights into what I did to survive that trying period – including the powerful quotes from great achievers that kept me going when I had nothing left.)

You Will Be Sorely Tested [Over 8,900 views] click to read in new window.

When you go through hard times – especially one in which you lack access to money, shelter, food and friends/family that can provide help or support (as can happen to anyone when you find yourself in a foreign country, where you know NO ONE…like I did), it can be difficult to stay optimistic.

Your faith in yourself and in what you are doing (or trying to do) will be tested and you will be pushed to your wits end.

Ultimately, your ability to persevere, with courage, will be determined by the convictions you have.

This is often a time of true reckoning for many people that helps them gain clarity about whether or not they are in the right business or line of work.

For me, being able to emerge from that terrible phase of my life, with my vision for the future still firmly intact, was a major achievement.

I always knew I was on the right track.

Those experiences simply helped me confirm that my convictions were valid – and they even helped others, who had previously doubted me, become BELIEVERS along with me.

And some, today, are my most fervent advocates, who will go out of their way to give me support anytime I request it. Sometimes even before I ask them, they identify what I need and provide it.

But I strongly believe the story behind my being able to come out on top, from that potentially traumatizing experience is one that really needs to be told, because it can benefit a lot of people who may have to face similar adversity in their own pursuit of success, at some point.

Celebrating or remembering one’s breakthrough point is good, but I have learned to always offer to share experience based insights about WHAT I DID and HOW I DID IT, so that my audience can take something tangible away from interacting with me.

The TUNDRA jeep I was sitting in belonged to a Cotonou based Nigerian diplomat (now retired) who had hired me to develop a custom version of my Excel-VB driven Poultry Farm Manager for his farm in a South Western state back in Nigeria.

The driver had been instructed to take me down to Nigeria, to visit the farm for a few days and bring me back to Cotonou.

We had stopped on our journey from Cotonou to Lagos, to make a purchase, and I’d decided to have the photo of myself taken there (by him) as a kind of date/time marker.

It was actually my first visit back to Nigeria, six months after I first left the country to live  in, and work from Cotonou.

I had yet to see my family and was excited that we would stop briefly in Lagos, to drop off two full bags of shoes, clothes and edible goodies I’d purchased for them.

My fortunes had changed massively – from what had been my reality earlier in the year. But it had NOT been by accident.

How this opportunity (and others like it) came my way, just months after I’d had to intermittently sleep on the streets of Cotonou (and Porto Novo), as I repeatedly run out of funds in the initial weeks of my arrival in Benin Republic, is a story I’ve told ONLY few people.

I plan to correct that situation with a special PDF report giving a full account in the near future. Among other things, I will provide insights into how I kept an upbeat mental state, such that I as able to keep writing on my blog DAILY, even on an empty stomach for sometimes 4 consecutive days.

I made friends during that time, with total strangers, who had NO IDEA what I was going through. Today, most of them still DO NOT know I was ever in such dire straits.

I kept my own counsel. I knew what my goal was – and even hunger or lack of money or a place to lay my head could NOT make me lose THAT focus.

Blind, absolute/unquestioning faith, and a refusal to recognize failure (aka persistence), was all I had – and it eventually led me (as Napoleon Hill promised in “Think and Grow Rich”) to client-getting/money making success.

A few examples of notable successes I recorded are highlighted in the articles linked below:

1. No. 119: How to Achieve Success in Any Field (True Story) – this one, published on 9 December 2013, has been read over 26,000 times.
