To succeed in selling ANYTHING, you must develop the discipline to smartly convert sales leads to money you want. In this second bonus commandment, I share another true story to illustrate how to use a WMS to achieve selling success.

Like I said in my 10 Commandments of Web Marketing for Business Success, the WMS designed and implemented the way I recommend, will often attract “Motivated Buyers”, to contact you about what you sell. At that point, it will then be up to you to do what is needed to close the sale,

That’s exactly what I did with this Farm CEO, who has now become the newest member of my Cost-Saving Farm Business Ideas club.

The screenshots below tell the story about how I led him to the final point, by empathizing with him.

 

This is where Psychology comes to play in selling. Your selling instincts need to be finely honed to accurately assess the psychological state of prospects and clients, when they come to you.

For instance, in the case of this Farm CEO, I immediately saw that he had conviction that my software could help him. This was why he still returned to ask for it, despite having only just suffered considerable material loss.

He was yet to buy a new smartphone and only had a small N3k phone he’d picked up after he got robbed. It lacking browsing capabilities and so he was not yet able to do mobile money transfers.

The truth was however that his priorities could change at any point in time. Apart from the need to replace the stolen items, other pressing money demanding tasks or events could force him to DELAY his plans to spend money on such a solution. A good example is if a medical emergency suddenly came up in his home.

The above considerations – and the fact that I’d also been robbed of similar devices less than a year ago – prompted me to send him a revised version of the promo offer he’d come back to enquire about. And I added zero cost bonuses as a gesture of goodwill, as my own small way of empathizing even more, with him.

But it was slightly higher priced – because, like I have told others who came to me (and as I stated in the 10 Commandments Series), I strive to make my offers with integrity.

I do this (making offers with integrity) by ensuring they are reasonably unique in terms of pricing, bonuses and other features. That way, the buyers knows that s/he is getting what is promised, and which differs from what came before, or what will come afterwards.

 

After I sent out the offer, it occurred to me that he might not see the email early enough, since he did not have ready access to Internet connection. To be fair to him, so as to give him the best opportunity to take it up, I called him up, and was not surprised to learn he had yet to check his email.

[TIP: Do you see how acting with due diligence can help you avoid losing useful selling opportunities? My advice: Don’t be too laid back and depend exclusively on indirect methods of communication like email, messenger etc. Sometimes it makes more sense to simply pick up your phone and CALL THE PROSPECTIVE BUYER so as to tell him/her about the juicy offer you’ve cooked up!]

So I read the email offer out to him on phone and asked if he wanted to take it up. He said he did, and wasted no time in asking me to text him my account details.

But he noted that he would only be able to make the payment on Monday (we were speaking on Saturday p.m). This was because he had no means to make payments from his phone or via online banking.

For my time limited promo offer, this would not work – and I told him so. You see, the buyer ALWAYS has to make a commitment to tie down the offer as given.

Otherwise it would be revised upwards in price, and possibly the accompanying bonuses modified.

I made this clear to him, and suggested he talk to a trusted other (friend, colleague, relative or partner) to send in the payment on his behalf.

He initially said he could not immediately think of anyone. I replied that other buyers had often said the same, but after doing a little checking, were able to find someone to help.

NB: As long as they can trust you to refund the money to them, people who know you well will often accept to help you send payment to a 3rd party, if you ask them the right way. I know this because I have done it countless times – several of those involving having clients who have NEVER met with me, helping to send funds to 3rd parties they’d never met, on my behalf!

At this point he agreed to explore the alternative payment option I’d suggested, in order to take up the attractive multi bonus offer I made to him, before the deadline.

Sure enough, he got a friend to help make the payment – she did so twice

[TIP: To make things easy for him to convince the helper, I told him he could make the payment in 2 installments. That way, the person would not worry that the sum was large. By Monday, he would be able to get cash to the helper and she could then pay the balance. And that was how it went].

I am NOW preparing the products he ordered, by personalizing him using his name, business name and contact/other details he’s sent to me.

Those of you familiar with my work, most likely recall I ALWAYS personalize my products for each buyer. This is so as to better protect their investment in solutions I deliver to them.

I have shared this true story to illustrate the importance of taking timely action to close sales leads:

Act Decisively. Avoid  Hesitating or Procrastinating.

To paraphrase a common saying “Delay can be dangerous”.

You see, people often have a variety of expense channels competing for the money in their hands, pockets and accounts.

Make up your mind what profit margin to aim for with each product or service, BEFORE you start generating sales leads.

That way, when they eventually come to buy (and they will, if you use your WMS like I recommend), you will be ready to make IRRESISTIBLE offers that motivate them to make payment before they consider any other things they wish to spend their money on.

Fail to act as recommended above, and you could see potential sales fizzle out right before your eyes. THAT, is not something you want to happen, if you seek authentic selling success!

PII 151[TRUE STORY]: Use Relentless Web Marketing to Achieve Selling Success Inspite of Adversity – Bonus Commandment No. 1

Everything I share in this 10 Commandments of Web Marketing for Business Success series is experience based wisdom – insights from the University of Hard Knocks (UHK) aka LIFE – and NOT textbook theory.

Far from being something I picked up from ANY textbook or classroom, it’s something I conceived by applying myself diligently to thinking about and intelligently, analyzing failures and successes I experienced over years of marketing my multidisciplinary range of products and services.

Then I distilled those experiences into a system that I could put to use practically, to solve the problem of finding prospects or potential clients/customers and making them buyers.

Let me begin by stating an important fact you need to keep in mind, if you want to succeed in winning profitable paying clients using MY Web Marketing System.

You may be doing your marketing, but it may not immediately give you the kind of results you want.

Then again, even when it is giving you the results you want, it may not continue to do so indefinitely, Typically, you may get to a point when it suddenly stops doing so as well as it used to, or even stops doing so completely – for a time.

As you can imagine, this would feel like a total disaster happening in your business life and you would wonder to yourself saying “I thought I had this all worked out before?”

The truth is sometimes the lessons we need to learn are not given to us at once.

Sometimes we need to learn in phases. Success happens in levels or to put it differently, there are different levels of success.

You may be at a certain level of success, and assume you’re home free or made, when in reality there are still other lessons you need to learn. By the time those lessons become necessary; some people wrongly assume that it’s something entirely negative.

The wrong mental attitude they’ve adopted makes them think they’re subfreezing needlessly.

But the truth is that such an experience will often be an opportunity for growth.

It will equip you to deal with adversity mentally.

So your success in marketing is unlikely to simply be continuous and uninterrupted. Nothing in life is ever that way.

What is more likely to happen is that you will experience what are called PEAKS and TROUGHS in your marketing.

The PEAKS are the periods when you rise high and you achieve and things are going well.

But there will always be TROUGHS in the life of an entrepreneur. Those are the down times you have. But those down times usually will come because there is something you don’t yet know, that you need to know to add to the body of knowledge, skills and abilities you have.

So you need to maintain a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) during those periods when things are slow, when things are not looking good, because those are the periods when the lessons are there to be harvested.

It is very important to have the right mindset towards your marketing, so that you can make the most of the experiences you are going to have, because nothing is ever going to happen in a straight line.

In life, you cannot avoid adversity. Instead it is how you respond to adversity that determines how you succeed in the long run.

So, you need to make adversity your friend. Embrace it. Jim Rohn said “Adversity forces the human spirit to grow”.

I agree.

I’m a product of adversity – and every day I remain a student of adversity, learning continually.

It’s NOT easy, and it can be very psychologically an emotionally challenging, BUT I have found that I always emerge wiser and stronger afterwards – and that makes it worthwhile!

Now, here’s why I had to give the above admonition as a preamble…

It’s because if you do not have mental attitude described above, it will be near impossible for you to achieve the kind of authentic success I will now go on to describe, based on a recent true story, about the use of my Web Marketing System (WMS) to attract and win over buyers.

Late last year – specifically, on the 27th Nov. 2018 (2 months ago today) – I got an email from a Cameroonian gentleman based in Ghana, regarding my Excel-VB Poultry Farm Manager Pre-Built Custom Automated Workbook software Application.

As he stated in the email screenshot below, he was looking to purchase the app in preparation for a Poultry Layer Farm Business Start-up in Ghana.

Now, he’d gotten my email address (tayo at tksola dot com) from the demonstration video I’d published in my YouTube channel, announcing the PFM app to potential buyers searching for solutions of that kind.

Members of my Web Marketing for CEOs club will recall I’ve mentioned several times, the need to create promotional materials that include what is called a Call To Action – CTA.

There MUST be a purpose to your marketing. Your CTA will be used to effect that purpose.

Be it videos, audios or written materials/resources, you must ensure your message ends with a specific request, offer or invitation to the target audience that comes into contact with it. Something they have to do that will draw them into your sales process – resulting in a “Sales Lead”.

In my videos, I usually recommend at the end that the viewer interested in knowing more send me an email via tayo at tksola dot com or that s/he call me on either +234-803-302-1263 (in Nigeria) or +229-66-122-136 (in Benin Republic).

This was what led the Farm CEO to send me the email he did.

In response, I told him to call me on my Nigeria line, so I could ask him a few questions (see email screenshot below).

I make this request as a strategy to screen out potential time wasters.

Put in place a screening system to help you make effective use of your time.

My experiences have taught me that some people (especially out here) can be mischievous. Some people may just call to chat you up for the sake of it, just to see what you will say.

I used to call people at my own expense in the past. But after I discovered that a growing number of those I was having to respond to were just curious, I realized I needed to modify my strategy.

Then in Nigeria, there are people who habitually engage in the silly practice of flashing – they call your line, let it right briefly, then end the call, so that YOU feel drawn to call back.

I used to do such call backs, but soon learned it was not worth my while. So I stopped and focused on identifying serious prospects by requesting they call me.

Since 2013, I’ve had enquirers call me, as a prerequisite for getting a response from me. I estimate that I close over 70% of sales opportunities that come to me through this process.

It actually makes them see that I take myself seriously, and that boosts my credibility + makes them come to me believing I can really help them.

My argument is this:

The products I sell are not very expensive, but they are not dirt cheap either. If you’re unwilling to spend the little amount that would enable you speak with me for 1 to 3 minutes on phone, I don’t see any reason why I should believe you are a serious potential buyer for my products that cost MANY times more!

Back to the Ghana based prospect:

When he got my email asking him to call me, he replied that he would and did so about a day later.

I still recall that I was visiting my parents in their home when the call came in. Less than 5 minutes later, we were done. He’d given me the answers to my questions and had asked me how much the app cost.

In responding, I offered to make him a time limited discount offer.

He however declined, noting that he was still looking around, trying to make up his mind, and that he could not make any concrete buying decision until January 2019.

I encouraged him to take his time and we ended the call.

By this time, in line with my recommended best practice for Web Marketing, I had 2 important items of information from him, which equipped me to safely and cost-effectively follow up with him:

a. His Mobile Number:

This I plugged into my Phone Contacts and used to find him on WhatsApp

b. His Email Address:

This I added to my General Contacts who I periodically forward copies of my published newsletter

As you can see, there is a method to my Web Marketing “madness” :-)

My approach helped me check and confirm reasonably, that the prospect was to be taken seriously. Then I stored the 2 key contact details I would need to take him/her to the next level in MY sales process, and proceeded to WAIT for ideas to come to me.

As the year approached its end, I sent out newsletter broadcasts via WhatsApp and email.

One carried the download link to an Excel-VB Greeting Card Workbook that I’d adapted from a source version downloaded from the web.

I’d embellished the workbook with code that got it to do more, plus a floating form featuring my photo, logo and clickable command buttons – including one that opened an offer page for discounted signup for membership of my MS Excel Heaven VB Programming Club.

Just before the year ended, I sent all my past enquirers a GIFT PDF copy of the 4,000 word Case Study I got paid 2,500 Euros to write, by a European Union Funded NGO based in Holland. There was also an offer of a special MP3 audio podcast series.

All of these were sent out using a clear no-strings-attached approach.

Recepients knew they were not being pressured to respond to anything, even as they took ownership of the FREE gif

[TIP] It is instructive to note, at this point, that I kept sending out my broadcasts, regardless of whether or not I got any responses. This is critical to successful selling. Marketing is the life blood of any business and it MUST happen continously, for the best chances of sales leads generation to be had.

I did some thinking, early in the New Year, and decided to send out a special FLASH PROMO offer of my Feed Formulation Bundle at 50% off with a deadline that expired midnight of the same day.

Why?

Because I knew most of those on my mailing list were Farm CEOs, or those aspiring, who had yet to purchase my Feed Formulation products.

Sometimes people tend to be ready at different times, to take up specific kinds of offers. Timing matters, in making offers.

When I sent out my offer, I got some responses – and was NOT surprised.

One of them was from the gentleman in Ghana…

Another Selling Opportunity Opened Up…

In an interesting turn of events (which I’d actually thought could occur) he came back – see screenshot below – while still expecting his payment to reach me, to ask about the PFM app which he had originally reached out to me for!

You see, I’d offered him a different product (Ration Formulator software etc), which has a lower price tag, at a discount, to get my foot in the door, with the intention to them up sell the actual product he’d indicated interest t in to him.

Not surprisingly, he asked about THAT other product – the PFM – on his own.

This request from him gave me legitimate reason to then make him another offer, this time for the PFM.

Do you see now, why it always pays to keep an open and flexible mindset when marketing?

Never be too rigid in presenting your offers. Learn to watch the prospective buyer’s “body language” when you communicate with him/her. You can do this even when you are NOT physically with them. How they respond when you speak on phone, or even what they say in email replies or WhatsApp/Messenger chats can give you insights into how to get them to buy!

I’ve honed my selling instincts and skills in this regard for years and it has helped me get total strangers convinced enough to send me money from in and out of Africa, without EVER meeting me in person.

So this system I use, and recommend to you, works – if you know how to use it.

The first step is for you to ensure you have a solution that your target audience wants and which they will consider worthwhile AFTER you deliver it to them.

PII 150: Stop Ancient Schooling: Your Child’s Success Depends on Her School’s Teaching Method [VIDEO: Jack Ma says “We need to stop training our kids for manufacturing jobs”]

Today’s parents (especially those in Nigeria/Africa) NEED to understand and accept that the PC/Internet Technology Revolution has PERMANENTLY changed the way REAL EDUCATION can – and should – be done,

As a result the “formal schooling” you provide to your kids MUST be adapted to suit the new needs created in society, by the revolution, so that it can deliver real world relevant know-how to learners.
Otherwise it will continue to be a WASTE of your kids’ time, effort and abilities and YOUR money e.g kids will leave schools unable to meet employers’ requirements, and lacking the competence to function in self-employment – despite their years of formal schooling preparation!

One example of how PC/Internet technology is being used to effect new teaching methods is what is seen happening in the Math Tutorial video shown below – with a kid doing the teaching :-)

I NEVER knew this “Common Core Box” method for doing multiplication, yet in this short video a few minutes, I NOW DO. And I did so without leaving my home, at 5.20a.m right from my laptop.
 
The implication of the above, is that MOST of what is being taught in schools can, today, be effectively taught and learned via Smartphones.
Indeed, the FREE online video based learning website  – www.khanacademy.org already PROVES this to be possible, with millions of teachers, students and their parents using it to achieve top class quality (and VERY pocket friendly) learning, regardless of their location, anywhere in the world – including the poorest countries in the developing world.
 
Sadly, for MOST Nigerian/African kids, regardless of how expensive and fancy their schools are, their teachers are unlikely to embrace this approach to teaching – because they remain stuck in the past, holding on to archaic teaching methods that NO LONGER serve the world’s needs!
Little wonder that I am yet to meet ONE Nigerian teacher or school owner who was aware of www.khanacademy.org BEFORE I mentioned it to him/her. And that’s no surprise because their kind would feel threatened by such a platform that makes learners independent of teachers and empowers them to do more thinking rather than engage in rote learning (aka cramming), which the teachers favour!
 

China’s Jack Ma, 54 year old billionaire business owner (worth over $27.9 billion today) once earned as little as $12 per month as a teacher.

His inspiring classic rags to riches story about how he endured countless repeated failures to get where he is today, is well known.
Recently, Jack gave a speech in which he used his experience based insights to tell the world that WE NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY WE EDUCATE OUR KIDS.
It’s a speech I strongly believe EVERY parent, teacher, policy maker and even students need to hear.

Jack Ma is right.
More emphasis now needs to be placed by our schools, on teaching learners/kids especially, soft skills – thinking, creativity, innovation are qualities that will equip our kids to succeed in a world where KNOWING stuff is no longer enough, given the robot/automation/artificial intelligence driven nature of today’s societies.

The rest of the world is listening to Jack Ma…but Nigeria/(some countries in Africa) seem(s) NOT to be keen to do so!

I know this from studying trends in the evolution of education worldwide over the past decade – in line with my work on Best Practice Parenting.
Countries like Finland have been leading the way long before now, in this regard. Experts like Robert Kiyosaki have been screaming for decades that we need to change the way we teach kids and WHAT we teach them.
 
But Nigeria continues to lag behind. And out kids are leaving school often boasting few if at all any competencies that make them internationally competitive. And even locally, they struggle to find relevance.
 
I am a product of Nigeria’s schooling system and I know what it feels like to discover that what you learnt in school is NOT enough to help you excel or flourish to your full potential, outside paid employment in your own society.
This is why today, I earn a living using skills I never learne din school after I unlearned, and relearned a lot of the things I was taught in school.
It was a most painfully excruciating experience – especially due to the fact that I got mocked and ridiculed for years, by those with much less schooling than I had, for not being able to fend for myself and my family, inspite of my brilliant academic abilities, and qualifications.
That drove me to spend thousands of hours thinking about what was wrong in the education i’d received, and I also did lots of reading to learn what I was missing, until it clicked.
I realized what I lacked and proceeded to begin, slowly and painstakingly developing the needed competencies.

Today, my new self-taught abilities enable me earn income in ways that others have told me are ground breaking especially out here in Nigeria/Africa.

I am also able to repeatedly defy adversity and failure to bounce back to success, no matter what life throws at me – because I NOW POSSESS these abilities – none of which is taught in formal conventional schools!

“I literally dream about shoes, all the time.

I live, sleep, eat, drink fashion.

It’s not something I separate. I’m like always designing.

Historically, both in ready to wear and in shoes and accessories, it has been men.

I’m kind of the new garde, which is “wait minute, why shouldn’t a woman know what a woman wants when it comes to footwear?”

I’m always telling young designers, who are very creative coming out of art schools:

“You’ve got to learn the business. In the world we live today, you can’t just sit in the corner and draw shoes, for example. You have to know how to market the shoes. You have to know how to sell the shoes. You have to know how to cost the shoes. You know…you don’t design into a vacuum.

To be an entrepreneur, you don’t have to be like myself – the LEAD entrepreneur.

You know, the people who work for me, they all have to be entrepreneurs. So it’s really a way of thinking. It’s an empowering way of thinking. It’s an accountability. It’s you can make a difference. It’s going to your job and not just thinking that you’re a cog in the wheel. It’s thinking like you could affect the wheel. You can innovate the wheel. You can make it a better wheel. That kind of thinking is so important for any type of job, any type of career – and especially design.

I think having my entrepreneurship background gave me that confidence that I could go out on a limb and innovate. “

[DVAM] HIGH‐CONFLICT CONTACT DISPUTES: EVIDENCE OF THE EXTREME UNRELIABILITY OF SOME CHILDREN’S ASCERTAINABLE WISHES AND FEELINGS – Family Court Review | An Interdisciplinary Journal

This research paper’s findings speak for themselves. It was authored by “a child psychiatrist who acts as an expert witness within the family courts of England & Wales“.

Here’s an excerpt from his conclusion that I found powerfully compelling, and highly noteworthy:

I conclude that courts might exercise caution when evaluating the views of children and young people in this situation, and emphasises that assessors should consider including at least one observation of the child at a prolonged visit to the NRP. Because of the new orthodoxy some parents may be tempted to misuse their child’s right to a “voice” in court in order to achieve their own ends. Practitioners who advise courts may need to be more aware of these difficulties– Kirk Weir, Child Psychiatrist and Author of the Reviewed Paper

HIGH‐CONFLICT CONTACT DISPUTES: EVIDENCE OF THE EXTREME UNRELIABILITY OF SOME CHILDREN’S ASCERTAINABLE WISHES AND FEELINGS

Abstract

This article challenges an increasing orthodoxy regarding the weight which courts might place upon the expressed views of children in a specific situation—high‐conflict contact disputes. I am a child psychiatrist who acts as an expert witness within the family courts of England & Wales. I have conducted a statistical analysis of cases in which I have conducted assessments of children caught in such disputes between their separated parents.

Fifty‐eight children met the criteria for inclusion in the study—the child’s consistent opposition to contact with the non resident parent (NRP), despite the court having determined that there was no good reason to constrain contact.

My assessment routinely included attempted observation of the child at a visit with the NRP. Despite their stated views most children had a positive experience in those visits that took place, and despite the fact that most had not seen the NRP for a long time. Overall there was a statistical association between increased resistance to contact and the greater age of the child and the longer the time during which no contact had occurred.

However, the responses of children and young people were unpredictable and it was impossible to conclude that apparent maturity or intelligence was a guide to the reliability of their expressed resistance. The possible reasons for this unreliability are discussed.

I emphasize that my sample of children is unusual as many of the cases had involved serious, though unfounded, allegations of abuse. In addition most of the children showed indications of having become “alienated” from the NRP.

I conclude that courts might exercise caution when evaluating the views of children and young people in this situation, and emphasises that assessors should consider including at least one observation of the child at a prolonged visit to the NRP. Because of the new orthodoxy some parents may be tempted to misuse their child’s right to a “voice” in court in order to achieve their own ends. Practitioners who advise courts may need to be more aware of these difficulties.

The article previewed/linked below – authored by a US based Parental Alienation Expert is powerfully educative and informative. It provides elaborate real life examples to support its valid argument that kids can, and do lie (often coached by a naughty parent in dispute with a partner) when asked to “testify” in matters relating to their quarreling parents.

My experiences strongly convince me that MANY experts in this part of the world, who have to work with disputing partners with kids, often invest little or no time to READ and LEARN about this aspect  of issues they have to mediate in.

Quite often they are clueless about the REAL possibility that serious problems – like LYING – could be happening. This is why many literally brag when discussing their work, that they KNOW how to get the kids they interview to tell them the TRUTH. They fail to realize it is possible for the kids they interview to be coached to tell lies by one parent, against a target parent. This makes them prone to being sometimes hoodwinked and used, by a naughty manipulative, vindictive parent against the other parent.

The above is why I consider such experts (I wonder HOW they are recruited to play sensitive roles of this kind!) a danger to those couples (and their kids) that they have to work with.

Aside from my personal experiences and observations, this problem of kids lying when testifying is something that reports have shown (See some examples in Google) happens quite a lot, making it imperative that experts take pains to check for it, before any decision is made in mediating disputes.

This is why I am compiling and promoting articles like the one below, as widely as possible, for the attention of disputing couples, and any experts or professionals working with them. Kids are fickle minded and LOVE their parents.

A manipulative parent can use them to hurt the other, even if the child does not like it.

Read the article below to better understand that things are not often as straightforward as they may seem, where so called “child testimony” is concerned.

Failure to put these considerations into use when dealing with disputing couples with kids could lead to villification of an innocent partner!

False allegations are a feature of family separation, especially when that separation is accompanied by high levels of conflict. Writing in the splendidly detailed and must have book for all mental health practitioners working with separated families – Parental Alienation – The Handbook for Legal and Mental Health Professionals, T W Campbell tells us

False allegations of CSA (Child Sexual Abuse) typically originate as rumours and can spiral out of control as the ensuing processes of rumour dissemmination gather greater and greater momentum. False allegations do not involve the malicious premeditation found in fabricated allegations (page 164)

Fabricated allegations however, are differentiated by Campbell as being

based upon premediated determination to direct allegations at an entirely innocent person (page 164)

Which is why, when we are working with separated families where such allegations are made, it is important to know how the allegation arose in the first place and then what impact the allegation had upon the concentric circles around the family. This allows differentiation and differentiation allows deeper understanding, of the nature of the allegations and why and how they arose.

Dispense with any rose colored glasses through which you may be tempted to view the world. Some people, including those you love, may choose to make things difficult for you, as they observe your progress.

What you need to do is PREPARE yourself for that possible eventuality. Otherwise you could just end up getting derailed from achieving your dream.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to eliminate all the negative people from your life. Your mother or father, a business associate, a best friend or even your spouse might be a negative influence. And since any of these people have known you for years, they probably think of you in terms of your past experiences and not in terms of who you are today, or the person you can become.

The saying “A prophet has no honor in his own home” couldn’t be truer, Sometimes it’s easier to find support from a complete stranger. A stranger doesn’t carry preconceived notions about what you can or cannot do…everyone needs someone to believe in him or her, and those who are closest to you may not be the best people to fill that role.
