PII 119: Shine Your Light: Succeed Without Apology [Verbatim Video Transcript of “Shine Your Light” – Powerful Speech by World-Renowned Motivational Speaker and Bestselling Author, Lisa Nichols]

In this week’s issue (28th May 2018) of my newsletter, I share the verbatim transcript I’ve typed from a 3.5 minute video clip of World-renowned motivational speaker and bestselling author, Lisa Nichols delivering her powerful speech on how to keep shining and blinding those who cannot handle your light.

Notice that I’ve DELIBERATELY retitled it “Shine Your Light: Succeed Without Apology”

Reason: To better drive home the message from her speech.

This is a message so MANY adults need to hear today.

I meet too many as I move around, who have been sooooo psychologically battered by society to believe they need to act “humble” and not “show so much of what they can do”.

This makes them go through life UNDER-ACHIEVING.

Very wrong.

The Creator is NEVER pleased with that kind of lifestyle, because it does NOT glorify Him!!!

I’ve explained why this is so, in past articles on this blog – including a popular one (click here to read it in a new window) about how Muhammad Ali achieve legendary status while alive by shining his light brightly and blowing his trumpet loudly!

BELOW: Shine Your Light: Succeed Without Apology [Verbatim Video Transcript by Tayo K. Solagbade, www.tayosolagbade.com of “Shine Your Light” – Powerful Speech by World-Renowned Motivational Speaker and Bestselling Author, Lisa Nichols]

=Start of Transcript=

“It’s a life of hustle and survival.

I remember when my 9th grade teacher asked me:

‘Lisa what do you want to be when you grow up?’
You see I had to fight the Harlem Crip 30’s every day to get home from school, so I looked at her and said “Alive.”

I took an English class, and I got a FAIL in English.

And my English teacher said, in front of the entire class:

‘Lisa, you have to be the weakest writer I have ever met in my entire life.’

Don’t worry, my story ends good.

Don’t feel sorry for me.

I got seven under my belt.

And then the same year, my speech teacher said – after giving me a “D minus’

I knew I had an A in speech, like, come on…

He obviously didn’t agree with me. He gave me a D minus and said:

‘Ms. Nichols, I recommend that you never speak in public. That you get a desk job.

So here’s the beauty of that story:

Other people’s perception of you, ain’t none of your business.

Everything you’ve ever been through, set through, rose through, cried through, prayed through…everything is a setup for your next best season.

In the way you forgive the perceivably unforgivable; the way you love the perceivably unlovable; the way you accept what seems to be unacceptable; the way you embrace after you’ve been betrayed; the way you do that, is the way you will lead us.

Your light belongs to everyone who’ll be illuminated because you were bold enough and obedient enough to let your light shine.

Yes, Yes. Yes, Yes.

And every time you cross someone’s path and they can’t handle your light…

You know those people. They try to give you reasons why you should tone it down a bit…

That they will tell Sheryl not to sing so loud.

Right, right, right.

They would tell me to shut up in class.

They tell you, ‘You kind of strange’

You know those people.

Dream snatchers. Vision busters.

Don’t be mad at them. They can only love you to the capacity to which they are able to love themselves.

Don’t be mad at them.

Don’t be mad at them.

Pray for them. Love them.

Because they’re dealing with themselves, like we’re dealing with us.

But, I want you to remember that your 70 watts…your 70 watts had to be turned way up.

Because you got way more to give us.

It ain’t over yet.

Don’t put a period, where God put a comma.

And when you turn it up to 159 watts, you know you keep turning it up.

You like you stop dimming your light. You say ‘Today is the first day of the rest of my life’ and you turn it up…

You’re going to find people that can’t handle your light.

And before today you might have dimmed your life. You might have shrunk a little bit.

You might have tempered it down a little bit.

But after today, I want you to see this.

After today, turn the lights up.

After today you don’t dare dim your light.

As your light gets brighter…As your light gets brighter…you’re going to disrupt some people, and they’re going to tell you:

‘Your light’s too bright.’

‘Your light’s too bright.’

‘Your light’s too bright.’

Then you just look at them and say:

‘Well I’m not dimming my light.’

‘I’m just going to hand you some (sun) shades.’

I’m just saying…

Why don’t you start carrying around an extra pair of shades!

Stop Being Shy About Manifesting Your God-Given Potential.

Lisa’s message simply put is that…

The world needs you to be yourself – YOUR FULL unadulterated self. You have so much to TEACH others, based on your God-given Genius and Talents.

And like someone once said: You do NOT need anyone’s permission to succeed.

If you’re still in doubt, here’s a famous quote that communicates the same truths:

“You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure about you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.” Marianne Williamson

PII 118: You Need a Smart Marketing Action Plan to Attract Quality Sales Leads [Preview of a Smart Web Marketing Action Plan for a REAL LIFE Client]

“I just know there is something I’m doing wrong. It doesn’t make sense that we should be struggling to stay afloat in terms of covering our expenses.”

The above is a paraphrased version of the words spoken to me by the CEO of a non-profit organisation during a conversation we had sometime ago.

Despite growing successes achieved in terms of value adding impact on attendees of his organisations series of events, it had been a struggle in terms of access to funds to keep the outfit going.

So much so that sometimes he had to reach out for help to partners, more often than agreed.

This was not a healthy way to operate, and he knew the cause was that he was NOT generating enough income on his own, to complement what he was getting from donors.

So, our discussion centred on what he could do, to generate reliable income streams to complement donor sources.

My response was that he needed too find ways to monetize the growing follower base his events were generating for him. Many attendees of his outfits various vocational skills training events  eagerly provided their contact details, but he and his team never followed up.

The Peter Drucker quote below perfectly captures the core reason for the problem faced by the NGO i.e. there was little innovation and marketing being done by the CEO and his team…

“Because the purpose of business is to create a customer, the business enterprise has two – and only two – basic functions: marketing and innovationMarketing and innovation produce results; all the rest are costs. Marketing is the distinguishing, unique function of the business.” – Peter Drucker

The fact that an NGO is not profit making in focus, does not mean it does not need to follow good business practice.

Donors may not always be able to meet up, so the ability to manage funds available and create avenues to generate additional income to complement what exists will be crucial to its long term survival!

Like I told the CEO, many of those who attend the events organised by his outfit, would be interested in getting some information product or other learning resource in PDF, Video or Audio format to study further, so as to build on what they learnt at the event.

Not just that, most of them are likely to show interest in future events, which he and his team could choose to charge a token fee for, and/or offer branded learning products for sale on CD/DVDs etc.

But to succeed with doing any of the above, I made it clear he needed to develop and implement a SMART MARKETING ACTION PLAN.

Among othet things, I told him that publishing clips from the successful out-of-state event he’d just returned from, on Youtube, for instance, would not work, if not done right.

You don’t just go and publish video after video in your channel. Instead, you need to:

  1. Come up with a clearly defined Web Marketing Strategy.
  2. Based on that strategy, you will develop a step by step Action Plan, to achieve the outcome you want.
  3. Next, you implement the Action Plan, while reviewing it based on the results you observe from the market, tweaking where needed, to improve performance.

Now, the above cannot be done by just sticking with Youtube – you will need to use as many channels and platforms as possible, to achieve maximum marketing reach and impact.

Like I told him, even a non-profit organisation will need to operate in this manner, if it is to succeed in generating the kind of results it wants from marketing.

The difference would be that, unlike a profit making outfit, the offers from his non-profit organisation would be made more modest and pocket friendly – and the target audience would be invited, most times, to DONATE or SUPPORT or SPONSOR by buying one or more of the products/services put up.

Below is a screenshot from a Generic Action Plan document I sent out to a Web Marketing client sometime ago.

wms-action-plan-shot

It shows examples of tasks that will be carried out at regular intervals – AFTER the client’s Web Marketing System has been setup.

That kind of Action Plan is what I will be preparing and implementing for the non-profit organisation in the near future, once the CEO makes payment to take up a special promo offer I made to him.

My purpose is to offer my support by providing my Web Marketing service to help him begin generating useful income to complement what he gets from donors.

Another thing I will be doing is to SHOW him how to use the Web Marketing System I develop for him to DRAMATICALLY cut down the SPENDING he does in running the outfit, especially in terms of marketing. This will reduce the rate at which funds are expended, minimizing chances of cash shortages occurring.

I’ll do this – and MORE – at a token, because I believe in the work he’s doing and I want to be a part of it.

Indeed, I am keen to support organisations and individuals doing work in the area of Vocational Skill based Education (click here to read about my 62 page paper challenging parents, teachers and policy makers to focus more on Vocational Skills Based Education).

PII 117: Top 2 Articles On How to Defy Adversity to Succeed With Web Marketing (True Stories)

I am living proof that you can use to web to achieve powerful name/brand recognition at zero cost, even if you start out as a complete nobody.

My achievements are verifiable: over 90% of my clients today came to me as total strangers, who sent me money for products/services I offer but have yet, till this day to meet me in the flesh.

The above qualifies me as a competent expert authority on this subject.

And this is why I write about web marketing for smart sales leads generation with such passion: I KNOW it works.

Today, from over a hundred articles I’ve written on web marketing, I’ve picked out two articles that I published in May 2014, to feature SPECIALLY in this issue of my newsletter.

Why?

Because they were written during a period when I was putting my money where my mouth was, by applying my Web Marketing expertise, to revive my client atracting online presence, after my 9 year old domain (spontaneousdevelopment dot com) got hijacked by my former host.

This is yet another effort to inform, educate and possibly inspire others to use my ideas to do what I have done – and continue to do – to achieve superior web marketing success in their chosen areas of interest and expertise.

During that period I had to work nearly 22 hours daily over a period of 2 long weeks!

I did so to move the contents of my domain-less hosting account, to the hosting account I’d purchased for use with my 1 year old personal domain name – TayoSolagbadeDotCom.

But that was only the beginning – there was much more to be done AFTER that!

You see, ALL the search engine visibility I’d built via spontaneousdevelopment dot com had vapourised in an instant with the lost of that domain.

Every single URL bearing spontaneousdevelopment.com that got clicked in a Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) took the searcher to an error page.

It was a massively negatively impacting situation for me and I knew I needed to take rapid, relentless action to do as much damage control as I could.

So, I set to work on churning out multiple articles on a daily basis from my new domain name – so as to quickly generate activity to attract the Google robots to begin indexing the new URLs, which had a domain name that tallied with my own name

It was serious potentialy back breaking work, but my anger about what had been done to me by the hosting company gave me the motivation I needed to dig in and do what was needed for as long as it was necessary.

Never had I worked that way before on my online presence.

Articles, PDF reports, Videos and other forms of content were created again and again – sometimes 3 or 4 in a day, even as I checked to see what responses I was getting, from visitors, and tweaked what I published to boost the leads generation potential of the content.

Eventually, the results began to show. Web form enquities, phone calls and emails began to come in over time – and as time went on, I began converting some of them to clients i.e. making them buy.

These 2 articles featured via linked previews/lines below, offer some insights into what I did and how I did it – especially the THINKING behind use of my unique Web Marketing System, to build my online presence from the ground up ALL OVER AGAIN from a totally new domain.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of looking back after that experience to see that you’ve indeed defied the odds and the adversity thrown at you, to achieve what you set out to do.

THAT was exactly how I felt. And it was a great feeling!

I share this story and the articles below, to both inspire and educate you. Challenges will come, but if you arm yourself with the right mix of knowledge, skills and attitude, you WILL ultimately be able to emerge triumphant.

I KNOW this because I have done – and continue to do – IT!

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts he’s published.

If you experience any difficulties finding a page or document, email Tayo at tksola dot com.

Click “Tayo, What Happened to SpontaneousDevelopmentDotCom ?” to read a detailed narrative about how the above event occurred :-))

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

Haters Cannot Change Your Destiny!

This post was first published (along with THIS one) on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 – on the temporary blogspot dot com channel (click to see) I setup in May 2014, after spontaneousdevelopmen dot .com, my 9 year old domain got taken over by a former hosting company.

====

Haters Cannot Change Your Destiny!

A great man once said:

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, but of choice. Not something to be wished for but to be attained.”

Shina Peters also once sang in his native Yoruba:

“Aye o le pa kadara da. Won kan le fa owo ago pada si eyin ni.”

Contextual Translation: “Haters cannot change a person’s destiny. They can only turn the hands of the clock back i.e slow him/her down.”

This afternoon, I had a chat session with my current web hosts about the issues with my primary domain now locked off by my former host, Aplus.net

From the feedback Hostgator have given me, it’s obvious there’s lots of work I have to do, to modify my hosting account and entire website content to work with a different domain name I have control over.

I’m now awaiting a quote from them, for the configuration that may be needed.

I am also still pursuing a response from Aplus.net to my request that they supply at least the name on the credit card they claim the charge back happened on.

But even if I get the domain freed, I will still carry out my plan to NOT use spontaneousdevelopment.com as my primary domain anymore, until it’s no longer with Aplus.net.

These unexpected developments, and the new plans I just began implementing now make it apparent to me that it’s unlikely I’ll be able to find the time, and resources, to really do what is needed to honour an invitation I got (along with a professional colleague) to attend an event for public speakers in the USA in June 2014.

I’d intended my new marketing plan targeting Farm CEOs with speaking and coaching solution to serve as the “driver” towards achieving that goal.

But the current realities now make it obvious that my prorities need to change.

And so tonight I begin a long overdue process of re-inventing my massive library of web content, based on my personal brand. Www.tayosolagbade.com got renewed using my reseller account for a second year today at $9.99 US dollars.

If the GT Bank Naira Mastercard I used had been accepted by the payment processing system at Aplus.net, I would easily have renewed spontaneousdevelopment.com by myself. Instead I have to depend on friends or relatives based abroad to use their cards on my behalf to pay Aplus, and hostgator. Very awkward and sometimes humiliating.

If I’d been able to pay with my own card, this ridiculous excuse they’ve used to lock down my primary domain may not have worked.

But then again, I’ve been conflicted for months about how to make tayosolagbade.com lead people to my content online via search engines.

Spontaneousdevelopment.com at over 8 years old had always looked too big to replace.

And yet I knew my goal of using speaking and coaching to promote my offers in my travels, would benefit much more from use of tayosolagbade.com.

As luck would have it, those aiming to hurt me have inadvertently helped me. Now I’m taking the excuse of this situation, to carryout the long overdue re-purposing of the web content I’ve been creating since 2005.

I’m going to really enjoy using this as an object lesson to the haters who foolishly keep thinking they can stop me.

Shina Peters’ words of wisdom reproduced above, accurately captures my message here.

Let me quote him again:

“Aye o le pa kadara da. Won kan le fa owo ago pada si eyin ni.”

Translation:

“Haters cannot change a person’s destiny. They can only turn the hands of the clock back i.e slow him/her down.”

From tomorrow I launch a temporary alternative platform to publish my new DAILY content, while I work on the changes to my site. I estimate it might take most of this month of May 2014 to finish.

There’s lots to be done, but I intend to continue my online publishing as normal.

So here we go!
UPDATE (11th May 2018): You are reading THIS post 4 years AFTER I published it on my Blogspot channel – here on my TayoSolagbade.com SD Nuggets blog that I’ve built since then. In other words, I succeeded in defeating that wind of adversity that came my way – and I’ve done even more!

The World Needs Problem Solvers – NOT Inept People With Qualifications!

This post was first published on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 – on the temporary blogspot.com channel (click to see) I setup in May 2014, after spontaneousdevelopment.com, my 9 year old domain got taken over by a former hosting company.

I’m moving it NOW, to THIS SD Nuggets blog – on TayoSolagbade.com which I used to replace the lost domain within days of the loss of the old domain.

=====

Do you want to be valued and respected? Do you want to immunize yourself against failure? Would you like your child to also enjoy the aforementioned benefits?

If yes, you need to start deliberately developing real world relevant problem solving skills, and abilities, to complement any academic qualifications you pick up via exposure to formal schooling.

[NB: This write-up is here temporarily. Once I finish work on my real website (with regard to developments described HERE – click to read), it will be relocated to my hosted WordPress SD Nuggets blog.]

People with problem solving skills – be it in the intellectual or physical realm – are frequently considered USEFUL, anywhere they go.

It rarely matters if they are formally schooled or not. My 7 year stay in Guinness Nigeria helped me see that great value is placed on people with problem solving skills. And that inspired me to become one.

Was just about to share this with a comment that I was taken on by a relative who questioned my deliberate skills based coaching of my kids, to the seeming detriment of their “formal schooling”.

I explained to her that life taught me that having problem solving skills is way better than accumulating certifications.

During my 7 year stay in Guinness, my degree in Agric Extension had little or no relevance to my work, initially as a brewer or years later, as Acting Production Manager.

Instead it was my self-taught skill of spreadsheet automation using programming to solve brewery data recording and report generation problems, that made me shine repeatedly like a thousand stars till I left to do it as a business.

And I met many support staff from foreign manufacturers of plants used in the brewery, who were often just technicians.

When they came down, they trained people with bigger academic qualifications to have the more important practical competence needed to get their jobs done…
What a massive paradox!!

The above insights made me resolve to put skill acquisition ahead of academic qualification.

That’s why I never went back for a Masters, despite narrowly missing 1st class as Best Graduating Student from my department in 1992, at the University of Ibadan.

It’s the reason I made a point of learning website development and marketing techniques. That skill has helped me repeatedly defeat efforts to sabotage my brand online, by attacking my website(like Monday’s event which has now made me decide to make major domain changes).

Imagine if I had to pay a 3rd party to do such work each time it’s happened. I would be at his/her mercy.

And s/he may not even deliver. Please note, that I say this with specific reference to my part of the worlds. People in developed societies face much better realities in this regard.

All of the above insights made me buy my 10year old boy a complete electrical toolkit, after noticing his flair for fiddling with and fixing things, on his last birthday.

My 10 year old son with his kit. Don't be fooled by the rough appearance of what you see. This young man actually makes stuff that work, and FIXES things too. I've written several articles with details of this.
My 10 year old son with his tools and a contraption he was building. Don’t be fooled by the rough appearance of what you see. This young man actually makes stuff that work, and FIXES things too. I’ve written several articles with details of this.

Today, he’s the goto guy for his mother (and the rest of us) when a plug goes bad, a bulb is bad, or even when an adaptor or phone charger won’t work.

I’m doing a special PDF feature write-up on him by Friday 9th May 2014 – based on a recent discussion session I had with him, to find out what made him “tick”: He is SO INTENSE!

Apart from that, since I developed my Pineapple peel based drinks and cakes made without oven in Cotonou last year, I’ve taught my 3 boys to make them, and they’ve been selling them in their school, making over 50% profits.

Over a year ago, I made the eldest (who turns 15 in a few weeks time) undertake a 6 month weekend practical manual typewriting course with a private instructor in Ikeja.

During this period, I would drive with him to the Lagos High Court area in Ikeja GRA, and make him watch the ladies who typed all sorts of legal documents for a fee, using beat up manual typewriters.

We would listen in on their conversations, as they negotiated with clients who came in to have affidavits, and others documents typed for various purposes.

Then, on eour way home, he and I would discuss what we’d seen. And I would often remind him that NONE of the women was ever asked to show her “certificate” – and yet some made well over N1,000 from an individual client. In just one day…!

I continue working with my kids to refine their know-how as it relates to handling and using money they make using the skills I’m helping them acquire.

I always try to share stories like this to challenge more people to go beyond paying lip service to empowering themselves, or their kids.

Look carefully around you, and you’ll discover that people who get ahead in life, and achieve long term authentic success often get there by doing the above.

You can – and should – emulate them, if you desire similar results!

Used Correctly, the Internet Can Help You Defeat Failure Repeatedly

Anyone who has been following my writing for a while will most likely have read the stories I’ve told (like THIS one – click to read) about how I’ve used the web for years to achieve income generating name and brand recognition, despite boasting zero capital.

In the process of achieving the above, one reality I have come to accept is that NOT everyone will be pleased that you’re succeeding.

Especially when they know your past.

In my case, every now and then I have encountered naughty, sometimes outright malicious attempts to bring me down – in some cases from the most unexpected quarters.

Truth be told, life is like that.

Many stories abound that attest to the accuracy of the above statement.

I mention the above in relation to what many who pursue success will experience in terms of advancement and setbacks they will find themselves going through in their journey toward success.

There will be a time when you choose to share your plans with persons close to you that you trust, only to discover that they’ve used what you told them to plot your downfall, and ensure you do not achieve the lofty goals you told them about.

People act in this way out of fear, jealousy envy etc.

You will need to LEARN from every such experience so as to avoid repeating the same mistake as you continue in your journey.

For me, I must admit that my entrepreneurial passion made me wear the proverbial rose colored glasses  of newbie entrepreneurs many times, causing me to make those mistakes many more times than I really should have.

As a result, I got burnt so many times that I got to a point at which I almost become totally negative about relating with others. It took me time to learn how to identify – accurately – those persons I could trust and safely relate to.

But by then I’d become just too tired of doing all the hard work needed to screen people to find good ones!

I felt there had to be a safer and less painful way to do the work I loved doing, without needing to worry about getting used and dumped, stabbed in the back etc.

That desire was what led me to adopt the use of the Internet as my primary platform for doing my work.

I took that decision in 2011, after a particularly nasty experience with a long term client whose abusive tendencies I decided I would no longer put up with.

People told me then that I could not work that way in Nigeria/Africa.

To them our societies out here still lacked that trust element to make working 100% online to make money profitably, a realistic possibility.

For me however, my gut level instincts told me it could be done. I did not care that no one seemed to be doing it. I just knew that I could find a way to make it work for myself.

And I eventually did. Though I must admit that it took some time, and got quite messy. A key change I made to really get it right was to relocate from Nigeria’s Lagos to Benin Republic’s Cotonou.

There I gained access to 24/7 electricity at affordable rates that enabled me build my online presence the way I knew it had to be, to generate the leads I wanted.

NB: Like I said above, it got quite messy, before I got it right. For example, THIS article (click to read) narrates the true story about how I slept on the streets of Cotonou and Porto Novo in my first weeks in that country, before eventually finding my feet!).

Today, it is on record that I’ve build my brand selling – repeatedly – to total strangers who have since become clients/friends, using ONLY my Internet presence!

The URLs below will take you to the different aspect of my online presence, through which I have over the past 5 years in particular, delivered custom digital products and services to buyers within and outside Africa at low to zero cost.

The Internet has truly been a blessing to me!

Without it, I would NEVER have achieved anything worthwhile. I would not enjoy the attention and recognition of serious minded business owners, experts and professionals from different parts of the world like I do today.

I have lost count of the number of times total strangers have reached out to me via Google searches they conducted, calling me by name and expressing appreciation for the quality of content I offer via my websites. Then quite often they ended by making a sales enquiry about at least one of my products.

Read true story examples in this article (over 25k views since I posted it on 9 December 2013): No. 119: How to Achieve Success in Any Field (True Story)

All of these have happened despite the fact that I never paid for advertising of any sort.

In other words, just my smart use of the web led to those sales leads. This is why I am such a strong advocate of smart Web Marketing for use in money making by ANYONE who claims they do NOT have money or capital.

I am living proof that you can use the web to achieve repeat business marketing and selling success, even if you have NO MONEY.

As long as you’re willing to learn, and to keep an open, flexible mind, the web offers you limitless opportunities to succeed, no matter the adversity you encounter – and no matter how many times you encounter it!

Central to the successful use of the Internet to succeed in the manner I’ve described above, like I have done, is the use of what I call a Customizable Web Marketing System.

[RECOMMENDED] 27 Ways to Make Money From Your Small Farm

Over the past decade, working as a Digital Multipreneur (click to see my book), one message I’ve hammered on to clients in various industries, is the need to make generation of MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME a habit they adopt and NEVER grow out of.

The World's Future Prosperity Depends On Digital Multipreneurs™
An objective look at those who achieve income earning longevity in any area of endeavour in today’s world makes it crystal clear that THAT is the secret to ensuring you achieve and maintain long term financial success and independence.

Even footballers and other sports persons understand the need to live a life based on multiple income streams generation.

That’s why we hear of many famous athletes who own businesses they run in their spare time (or that they hire trusted others to run for them). Many go on to retire into those established businesses thereby ensuring the income earning capacity needed to maintain their preferred lifestyle long after they stop competing.

Farm CEOs need to understand that many valuable opportunities exist for them to add to the base income they earn from selling their main farm products.

Too often I have found many of them excessively focussed on making money from their main farm ventures, so that they completely miss the glaring opportunities to reap potentially lucrative financial and other useful benefits from exploring alternative ways to generate income from the SAME farm business.

And that’s why I find this article, that I recommend via a linked preview below, quite instructive.

The money making ideas suggested are readily adaptable for use in farm businesses in more or less any socioeconomic environment – be it in a developed or developing society.

I therefore urge you to read it with an open mind, and let your creative mind kick in to think up ways you can apply them to meet your unique farm business needs.

You have NOTHING to lose, and so much to gain by doing so!

The excitement created when stakeholders discuss the lucrative nature of poultry farming business, can sometimes be misleading.

Truth is, poultry farming, despite being profitable, can be quite challenging to startup – and run = successfully.

It takes lots of hard work!

This accuracy of the above statement is apparent, when the painful realities facing most poultry farm businesses since late 2016 till date (April 2018) are considered – as captured in the interview granted by a Kano based Poultry Farm CEO – Alhaji Aminu Adamu (see below).

PII 116: Why Poultry Farming May be Too Risky For Most Nigerians Today

The excitement created when stakeholders discuss the lucrative nature of poultry farming business, can sometimes be misleading.

Truth is, poultry farming, despite being profitable, can be quite challenging to startup – and run = successfully.

It takes lots of hard work!

This accuracy of the above statement is apparent, when the painful realities facing most poultry farm businesses since late 2016 till date (April 2018) are considered – as captured in the interview granted by a Kano based Poultry Farm CEO – Alhaji Aminu Adamu (see below).

For those familiar with developments in Nigeria’s poultry industry, the fact that many businesses have suffered major setbacks due to a combination of negative socioeconomic factors is not new.

Unfortunately, the situation has generally been grossly under reported, making many people unaware of just how bad things have been for poultry farm businesses.

Due to the nature of my work, which involves providing a range of unique products and services to livestock farm CEOs, over the past decade or so, I have been priviledged to get timely and detailed access to most of the relevance news.

What’s more, I have actually known several cases of farm business that have since shut down as a result of the unfavourable developments that have occurred in the poultry industry.

News report interviews like that done by Daily Trust newspaper (see below) which was published at the early stages of the crises back in April 2017, if given the widespread circulation it deserved, may have alerted stakeholders and government to the problem that was brewing at the time.

The Farm CEO interviewed in that report was Chairman of Kano based Nana Farms, Alhaji Aminu Adamu – and he was crystal clear in giving his warning about the dangers ahead, which have now become our reality today

Hers’s a quote from him that I feel aptly captured the seriousness of the problem:

“What we have experienced in poultry business from the end of 2016 to date, we have never experienced it before. One, there was unprecedented increase in the price of raw materials for the feed with amaze selling as high as N150,000 per ton. A bag of 25klg of layers’ feed that is used to be sold at N1,300 is being sold at N3,600 and this bag can only feed 200 birds per day.” – Alhaji Adamu Adamu, Chairman of Nana Farms,

Alhaji Adamu noted that the problems being experienced were threathening the livelihood of over 15 million Nigerians who earn their living from poultry farming.

He then – rightly – recommended that all levels of governmnet work with poultry farmers to solve the problems before things got out of control – causing avoidable collateral damage to the industry.

Click below to read the full interview.

‘Why poultry business faces bleak future in Nigeria’
https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/agriculture/-why-poultry-business-faces-bleak-future-in-nigeria/195208.html

poultry-bi-bleak
3 key problems he identified  were as follows:
1. Crazy hike (over double) in prices ofpoultry feed = this was due to combined scarcity and increased prices of key ingredients like Maize and Soyabean among others.
2. Uncontrolled importation of frozen chicken which continued to deny local producers the needed patronage from consumers.of poultry meat
3. Poor purchase of eggs leading to severe glut that forced farmers to sell below cost price just to keep going.

Since most farmers lack the resources, financially and otherwise to meet their needs for the feed ingredients required for feed production, most of them who were unable to cope had to either cut down their output or shut down their operations completely.

The poor response of government to the problem as it got worse through 2017 is what has now led to the situation we have today in the poultry industry – despite the potential we all know it has.
Several clients in my network have been so disillusioned and told me they no longer wish to engage in poultry farming, following this bad experience.
And that is why I believe it would be VERY unwise for any persons who do not have the means to ensure access to all the needed resources in adequate amounts at the right time, to venture into poultry farming at the moment. Things are simply  not right for small players, even medium ones, to do so for now.
For those already in the business, the key to survival will be paying close attention to cutting down costs in terms of time, effort, money and resources used. Best practice at all levels must be enforced. Otherwise, you may have little to cheer about at the end of your production cycle.

It goes withou saying, however, that if the needed support is provided to boost supply of key ingredients and inputs needed for poultry farming, this business is one that interested persons can definitely look to  profit handsomely from.

Many have done so in the past, to the extent of even passing their ventures down across several generations. It’s a business that is self-sustaining when the conditions are right.
The onus is on the Nigerian government to create those conditions in the industry, especially if it wants to make poultry farming truly attractive to millions of youths looking for worthwhile work to venture into!

[IMPORTANT NOTE:====

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

[RECOMMENDED] The A-Z of making your own quality chicken feed at home to cut costs

In this recommended article, the author makes the case for farmers to formulate their own feed based on the fact that many feed makers fail to produce livestock feed that conform to the required standards.

This is an argument I have used (along with the cost-saving benefits of making your own feed) for years to encourage many of my Farm CEO clients in and out of Africa to stop buying commercial feeds and start formulating/compounding what they can be sure will deliver the right nutrient profile to their animals.

My popular Feed Formulation Handbook and Excel-VB Driven Ration Formulation Software were developed to help interested Farm CEOs safely explore this option.

Practical Livestock Feed Formulation Handbook

Sadly, developments in the recent past in the Nigerian market have seen prices and availability of key feed ingredients like Maize and Soyabean go so crazy and unpredictable that small producers have found it impractical to continue making their own feed.

As a result many have gone back to buying from commercial feed manufacturers. And some have been forced to shut down their operations – especially those in the poultry sector.

Several of my clients have confided in me that things got so bad that they could not go on – especially when it became apparent that little or no support could be had from the government.

What upset me even more was the fact that all this was allowed to happen at a time when the government was supposedly trying to attract young people to farming by showing that it can be profitable to invest in!

Imagine what the average youth would think if/when s/he sees or hears about farms closing down due to such unfavorable environmental circumstances as those that have plagued the farm businesses described above?!

Sometimes I feel that Nigeria and her leadership simply do not want the best for the country – inspite of what they say. Otherwise, why on earth should this happen to farm CEOs at this time?

Notwithstanding the above, however, the wisdom offered in the article I recommend via a linked preview below, remains VALID and VALUABLE for adoption by any livestock farm owner. I urge you to read and put it to use.

The A-Z of making your own quality chicken feed at home to cut costs

Except for a few feed manufacturers who keep to the standards in poultry feed formulations, many feed companies in the country make very poor quality feeds, a situation which has led huge losses.

Poor quality feeds lead to a slow growth in chickens, low egg production, diseases or even death. Making poultry feeds on the farm is one of the best ways to maintain quality and cut the cost of production.

The common ingredients are whole maize, maize germ, cotton seed cake, soya beans, sunflower or fish meal (omena).
