Get Tayo Solagbade’s Excel-VB Membership Records Manager (for Clubs, Associations, Institutes, and other social groups) – FREE!

The Excel-VB driven Membership Records Manager (N50k value) was originally built – in late 2007 (back in my pavement pounding days!) – for a pioneer health and fitness club in Lagos, which was established in the ’80s.

Members of the club included a famous Nollywood actor who later became a commissioner in his home state, as well as a External Affairs Minister of Nigeria.

I greatly enjoyed working with the club owner and the manager, to build this custom Excel-VB app.

It’s one of so many in my archives that I’m keen to showcase for others to be inspired about what they can do with MS Excel Visual Basic.

Watch a screenshot demonstration of the app in my Youtube channel at the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBaxEHq9UkY

This application is a 100% customizable software that allows a club, association, or group conveniently record — and retrieve/compute — members’ personal and other data (including financial status) in a manner that facilitates accurate management evaluation of the business’ performance for timely and profitable decision making.

It can handle records for up to 5,000 members for a period of 5 consecutive years.

1. Member information can be readily retrieved using Member Registration No, or Full Member Name.

2. Automatically displays member pictures (including those of his/her spouse and kids), as long as they are saved in a folder on the PC, according to a naming convention (e.g. surname firstname.jpg).

3. Current version is BASIC. It can be upgraded and customized to incorporate use of automated data entry form, to make usage easier, and data entry quicker.

4. To see an example of our custom automated modeless data entry forms at work, you can watch of video demo of our GAM 1 application, built for a Lagos hospital on Youtube : http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUl4_RAja-g

[FLYER] The Key Performance Indicators It’s Renowned For, Convince Me Educators and Parents in Nigeria/Africa BADLY NEED to ADAPT Tried and Tested Ideas From Finland About How to Create a Successful Education System!

This post is a follow-up on the preceding piece recommending a BBC report about Finland’s education system. I highlight specific examples of this country’s unique system – for the benefit of many in my part of the world, who clearly do NOT know anything of the sort exists e.g kids who do not start school before 7 years, who take NO EXAMS (Yep. You read THAT right!) etc.

Finnish kids do not start formal schooling until 7 years & they get:

1. Short school days

2. Long holidays

3. Relatively little homework

4. No exams

Finland’s education system has has “long fascinated experts” around the world…because it ”produces high academic results in children who do not start formal schooling until the age of seven (7)”

PROOF IT WORKS:

Finland’s 15 year olds have, for 2 decades, regularly scored amongst the highest in the global Pisa league tables for reading, maths and science.

My Question: How do Nigerian kids (who commence formal schooling from as early as 6 months, often staying morning till evening and taking assignments home) perform on those SAME international league tables?

The truth is Nigerians do NOT even appear there…if they did we would have heard their (expensive!) schools screaming it from the roof tops!!!

So it means the Finnish kids get to have so much free time and fun, only to outperform our over worked kids!

Nigerian educators and parents stop wasting kids’ time in a system that does NOT work, and borrow adaptable ideas from one that DOES work – like Finland’s.

This is especially important NOW, that Finland is “shaking up the way it is doing things – a move that it says is vital in a digital age where children are no longer reliant on books and the classroom to gain knowledge.

[RECOMMENDED] BBC NEWS: Could subjects soon be a thing of the past in Finland?

I believe the rest of the world, if they are smart, should pay CLOSE and SERIOUS attention to what Finland is doing with its Education System.

My instincts with regard to the homeschooling I’ve been doing with my kids have been along this line – and that’s why this news from Finland resonates so much with me.

They are just starting out, so teething problems are likely inevitable.

BUT I strongly believe THAT is the way to go in the 21st century for best results!

Below is a preview of the article, ending with a link to the full piece:

BBC NEWS: Could subjects soon be a thing of the past in Finland?

Finland has long been renowned for the quality of its education and always scores highly in international league tables.

Now it is rethinking how it teaches in the digital age – seeking to place skills, as much as subjects, at the heart of what it does. But not everyone is happy, and there are fears it could bring down standards.

….

How Finland has shaken up teaching for the 21st Century

“Its ability to produce high academic results in children who do not start formal schooling until the age of seven, have short school days, long holidays, relatively little homework and no exams, has long fascinated education experts around the world.

Despite this, Finland is shaking up the way it is doing things – a move that it says is vital in a digital age where children are no longer reliant on books and the classroom to gain knowledge.”

PII 068: We Need to Stop Letting Naughty Females Succeed With False Accusations Against Men [Case Study: Woman Who Falsely Accused Brian Banks of Rape Ordered to Pay $2.6M]

One day Brian Banks was a high school football star poised to launch a promising career as a pro, and the next he saw it all go up in smoke when a former high school mate (Wanetta Gibson) accused him of raping her.

That happened in 2002 and he served over 5 years in prison – for a crime he NEVER committed!

But the story did NOT end there…

She later contacted him on Facebook and requested a meeting, at which she confessed that she’d fabricated the whole story – but refused to publicly admit it, for fear that her family would be asked to pay back money they’d been awarded.

Luckily, for Banks, he’d had the presence of mind to record her confession to him, and THAT was what the California Innocence Project, the organization that helped exonerate him, used to secure the reversal of his conviction on May 24, 2012.

banks-wiki

Ten long years. That’s how long this nightmare lasted for this young man!

I feature his story in this issue of my Performance Improvement IDEAS newsletter, as part of my Stop Domestic Violence Against Men advocacy campaign.

The story of Brian Banks is a perfect example of how a female can DECIDE to ruin a man simply by making a false claim, and succeed!

I don’t know about you, but reading Bank’s story, I could NOT help wondering about the psychological suffering he must have gone through, BEFORE this fortunate exoneration happened.

Banks had relatives, friends, colleagues and associates who would have looked at him differently when he got accused and ultimately sentenced to prison.

I cannot help thinking that he must have repeatedly protested that he did not do it, while others rolled their eyes heavenwards saying “Yeah, that’s what they all say!”

I also simply cannot help but wonder how he and all who identified with him must have had to ENDURE the embarrassment and humiliation arising from his false accusation ALL those years.

And I just cannot help but wonder if ALL those who heard that he got sentenced to jail back then, and who would have concluded that THAT happened because he was GUILTY of the crime the young lady accused him of, would EVER get to learn of the overturned court ruling that has since been given.

In reality, many may not get to hear that he has NOW been found innocent – so they will continue carrying those WRONG impressions about him in their minds!

And most importantly, I cannot help thinking that Banks LOST a HUGE opportunity to make it big in the NFL because of the action of this false accusation.

The damage to Banks simply cannot be erased by this reversed conviction, or the media publicity given to it and certainly not by the $2m fine imposed on his accuser.

banks-nbcla

All of that is good – but they will not change what happened to him. It is my considered opinion that it should never have happened to him in the first place!

And the fact that it did should enough cause for society to introduce controls to PREVENT naughty females from succeeding with false accusations in future!

To think that he had to get a recording of her confessing to him in private, was how he managed to get his conviction overturned, and NOT that she came out to confess it willingly, really shows just how self-centered this lady was.

The sad thing is that so MANY females in today’s world are increasingly like Bank’s accuser.

They have this entitlement mentality, and will do anything to have their way. But if they cannot have their way, then they’ll do whatever it takes to get back at you for NOT letting them have it.

In a way, one could say men in today’s world are doomed in the sense that if at any point, a female with the above kind of mentality happens to set her sights on you, chances are good that she will get away with anything she does to you – because society has been programmed to believe her over you, the man.

However, as Bank’s experience proves, we need to change that situation and put in place systems to STOP naughty females from taking advantage of society’s protective systems, to inflict such vicious abuse on men in their lives.

We MUST stop this current situation in which ALL a woman or female needs to do is to simply SAY “He did it” for the male person she accuses to be INSTANTLY considered guilty by the rest of society.

This is not to say that authentic cases of women who have been abused by men do not exist.

What I’m saying is that their existence and the possibility of it happening is NO reason for us to leave innocent men at the mercy of naughty females looking for ways to use the protective systems put in place for women, to inflict abuse on men in their lives that they have an axe to grind with!

Learn more about my advocacy campaign on my page; Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying & Stopping It

A new generation of shrewdly manipulative and cunningly abusive women are using protective systems put in place by society to exploit males that are their intimate partners.

In other words, they are gaming the system and by so doing are making a mockery of the efforts to stop domestic violence by exploiting stereotypes about males being the only perpetrators, to abuse their partners at will while readily adopting the accepted posture of “victim in self-defense” when their actions come under scrutiny.

What they do, they teach other women and their own daughters, who rarely know better.

We need to fight and stop this trend. Our sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and other loved ones who belong to the male gender, remain at grave risk if we don’t.

That’s why I’ve launched this page.

[RECOMMENDED] Lagos State Commissioner of Police Reads Bribe Taking Police Officers The Riot Act

If the CP (Fatai Owoseni) can back up his words with action, Lagos will become a HEAVEN on earth – and will become a model for other states in this country to emulate in this regard.

“I am tired of hearing about shooting or killing of innocent persons. No one has the right to take another man’s life. It is only God that has the right to take life.

“It is your responsibility as a DPO to know those who are collecting bribe under you. If you refuse to stop them, they will stop you from being a DPO.

“It is embarrassing to see policemen collecting bribes and chasing yahoo yahoo boys for a DPO. I would not cover any DPO. I will expose you. Just leave Lagos before I get to your station. I cannot share out of your misconduct. I will give your photographs and details to journalists to expose you.”

“I am shocked to hear that some Area Commanders and DPOs are on the pay rolls of fraudsters. I am investigating. Just pray that I don’t get you. Just know that you are causing pains for taxpayers if you are intimidating them and collecting bribe from criminals.

“It is a curse to build a house with the money. The building would collapse on your head. Some of you even take people to the bank to collect money. If you train your children with the money, they won’t be useful to you.

“If those who were in the force before us bastardized it, we would not have the opportunity to be enlisted in the police. I am tired of pleading with police victims because you are doing what you are not supposed to do. Remember, one day, you are going to die and give account to your creator.”

“Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) should take note. I will not tolerate any act of indiscipline. Learn a lesson from DPO Ijeshatedo, who shot dead a fashion designer. He is in our custody and we are compiling charges against him. He would soon be arraigned in court.

“All DPOs in Ikorodu should use all resources within their disposals to fish out Badoo cult group that has been causing havoc in the community. I am giving you all 48 hours to decongest your cells. Nobody should be detained more than 48 hours. I will conduct checks on the cells,”

[DVAM] Domestic Violence: A male reader’s experience [“I feel ashamed to tell anyone. I don’t think they will believe me and she will never admit to it”]

[I said in an earlier post on this page: Even the most docile being will react when pushed to the wall. Below is text I’ve typed out of the full letter sent in by a male reader (see large size photo) of Gloria Ogunbadejo’s “Mental Health Matters” column on page 54 of Sunday PUNCH April 30, 2017]

=Starts=

Dear Gloria.

Thank you for your very insightful column that comes out every Sunday in the PUNCH. I have been reading your column for quite some time and I have been very impressed with your views. I was intrigued with the topic of violence against women which you covered sometime in the past and I wondered if you were aware that there were men who also suffer domestic violence.

I am a married man and $y wife and I enjoy a normal married life. It is very difficult for me to express myself on this matter as I find it very shameful. I am well educated as you might be able to tell, and am gainfully employed. I say this not to suggest that it is the uneducated or poor that experience this type of abuse. I am just giving you an idea of my background.

My wife has a bad temper and has always been aggressive. Before we got married, there were times she would engage in physical combat when we had disagreements, but I just thought it was her way of expressing the extent of her love for me. After we got married, she seemed to settle down and was not as volatile whenever she was upset.

She had a very difficult time conceiving and I watched as her anger got worse again. I never used to hit her even when she slapped or hit me with all types of things. I could not take it anymore. Recently I beat her very badly. I think it was a build up of all the times I was on the receiving end. It was nothing compared to what I have suffered from her. However, her family acted as if the world had come to an end. Her brothers were threathening me and the family called a meeting to warn me.

I am very angry and frustrated because I have suffered a lot from her abuse but I feel ashamed to tell anyone. I don’t think they will believe me and she will never admit to it. I have decided that I will not let her get away with the physical abuse any longer even if it means the marriage will break.

This is not a subject that people take seriously in this country. It is only if a woman is experiencing abuse that anyone will listen. I know other men experience similar things but they either fight back or they keep quiet about it. I just wanted you to know that it is not only women who experience abuse.

Please Gloria, I require coinfidentiality to maintain my respect and dignity.

To my surprise, the 4 older ones protested that they would get laughed at by peers for wearing “strange” outfits, opting instead for their usual western themed attires.

BUT after I’d told them about the history of Adire fabric and its international reputation, they relented.

However, their initial reactions impressed upon me the need to make deliberate EDUCATION on African traditions, cultures, values and the History of Ancient African Civilization of my kids a MAJOR focus of my parenting efforts.

If someone told African kids all these things and taught them about THEIR RICH ANCESTRY- of which a lot is being re-discovered even now by today’s archeologists and researchers, the young African would stop feeling inferior !

[RECOMMENDED] REIC 024: Make Real Estate Investments Intelligently – Not Blindly | By Lanre Karim

A real estate professional, while speaking at an industry review meeting with other stakeholders early in 2017, made an interesting observation that I find especially noteworthy.

According to him, due to erratic performance of the Naira and the associated economic recession, buyers in the real estate marketing…

…became a little selective, so developers who met their needs in terms of pricing and creativity actually did well. Quality and price became king because money moved intelligently in 2016,

Human Beings Don’t Have On/Off Buttons Like Machines – We ALL Have Feelings & Will React Differently to Abuse!

[This article was first published, yesterday Tuesday 23rd May 2017, as a status update on my Facebook advocacy page: Domestic Violence Against Men – Ideas for Identifying & Stopping It]

I’ve read and heard about some men being blamed for fighting back against a female abuser. The commentators typically argued that ‘a real man walks away” – no matter what (…Including when hot water is poured on his body causing painful burning peeling of the skin in affected areas lol!)

The question however to ask is this:

How much training or preparation do we give our male members in society to expect this kind of controlled behaviour from them?

if none or little (as currently happens), how can we realistically expect ALL our men (not being programmable robots) to arrive adulthood with this wonderful ability to “walk away” everytime, no matter how badly they are abused by female partners?

It is my considered opinion, that if we’re honest with ourselves, “walking away” again and again is easier said than done.

You see, it would be nice if everyone exposed to protracted DV (Domestic Violence) could take it all without reacting (especially in a society that offers little or no support service for abused men that he can get, compared to what females enjoy).

Unfortunately human beings differ in terms of temperament, self control, endurance limits etc.

This is why some people choose to commit suicide or run away/abscond when they feel they cannot take it anymore.

But not everyone will accept to go that route. A man’s ego may make him decide against taking that route, even as he stays conscious of the need to avoid being guilty of committing abuse himself in the process.

This is often the reality that faces many abused men in society due to the widely held bias that men are always at fault in matters relating to Domestic Violence.

The truth is that it takes being in it to know how it feels.

Indeed many of us, male or female cannot be certain what we will or will not do should we find ourselves on the receiving end of DV on a prolonged basis!

Men, just like women have feelings and nobody is Superhuman.

We all have breaking points.

A man just can’t leave himself open to relentless abuse – especially the vicious verbal, psychological kind combined with physical attacks or provocation that tends to happen in DV situations.

No one can emerge unscathed from such battering.

The above is why the Mayo clinic article linked below really merits careful reading with deep reflection..

They apparently understand the real psychological atmosphere that prevails in these kinds of situations.

Human beings don’t have On/Off buttons like machines!

They have blood running through their veins, and no matter how gentle people are, when pushed to their limits (we all have limits!) they will – eventually – react!
