How the Excel-VB Driven Poultry Farm Manager is Used (True Stories)

In this article, I share some examples of how my Farm CEO clients use my increasingly popular <a href=”http://tinyurl.com/15pfmVideos” target=”blank”> Excel-VB driven Poultry Farm Manager software</a> I sold them, with my guidance. I do this here to provide potentially useful insights for prospective buyers who may be concerned about how well it meets their unique needs.

In a separate post to follow this one, I will feature excerpts from an email conversation I had with a Farm CEO who is now a client, several hours before he purchased this same app from me.

He’d written in to ask 2 questions about data integrity protection which I replied required extending the app for a standard development fee. He’s since bought the app on the understanding that he’ll order for the extension when he’s ready via an arrangement in which I hope to get other Farm CEO users to share the fee payment, at a pocket friendly rate.

Having said the above, it so happens that there are ways in which the app is already being used by existing clients to get around some of its seeming limitations – which I’ll be telling him about.

You see, I did not build this app for use in the manner being requested by some clients (e.g across an intranet), because I felt most of those who would need it would want use it alone, or with a few trusted persons they shared a PC with.

<H3>As a result, here’s what my clients do, based on my thinking in developing the app:</H3>

1. The Farm CEO/owner or someone s/he trusts to use it right gets assigned the username and password to exclusively post data into it.

2. S/he is advised to use the app on a computer preferably not shared with 3rd parties.

3. Typically s/he prints and makes photocopies of the daily record form (that comes with the app) weekly, for issue to the supervisor or manager, who shares them out to farm operatives.

4. I recommend that the client try to post entries daily using data hand filled into the paper record forms. However, the logistics of getting the filled paper forms back from the farm can sometimes make it hard to do. So that makes them post what may be several days backlog or at weekends – which is still okay.

5. The various Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) auto-computed by the app and presented in dynamic report summary tables and trending charts, are meant primarily for exclusive use of the business owner/decision maker.

Once s/he completes posting of the data, s/he then sits back and carefully reviews the autogenerated reports, to establish/follow trends, with a view to identifying areas that need intervention – or opportunties to replicate pockets of success etc.

<H3>By way of interest, I always recommend that the CEOs get their manager/supervisor to snap clear photos of (or scan) the filled and signed Daily Records Form, and send (e.g via email or Whatsapp) to the CEO at the end of each day, making it unnecessary for him/her to come down daily, or to wait till weekend to pick them up in bulk.</H3>

I do not know if any do this, but they tell me interesting stories about how they use the app to identify areas not doing well and then use that to challenge and guide the farm manager/supervisor to establish the root cause and take corrective action.

<b>A few days ago, one CEO told me how his Farm Manager later asked him how he (the CEO) had been able to discover a cage line of birds were getting higher than the farm’s average feeding rate, but returning the lowest Hen Day Percentage in the flock!</b>

He said he replied by making a rhetorical statement saying “What do you think I’ve been doing with the software I post data and records I get from you!

The above scenario provides an example that justifies the thinking I adopted in building this app.

Simply put, it was built for use by a decision maker or owner with the motivation to use it with integrity.

It so happens that the Web Marketing System I use to attract clients or buyers is designed to repel most people lacking the above qualities. As a result I continue to have a growing number of serious minded and results focused Farm CEO purchasing this app and making diligent use of it.

Learn to Please Your Clients Without losing Productivity or Profits

As Burt Dubin one wrote, youu are a marketer first and an expert second. It does not matter what field you specialize in – this truth always applies. I have profited greatly by acting based on this truth in my business, and I always recommend it to my clients and others I coach.

The main reason is that it keeps you focused on ensuring you stay profitable while working to meet your client’s needs.

Below is an example from a real life case study based on work I do serving Farm CEO users and prospective buyers of my Excel-VB driven Poultry Farm Manager software.

The prospect had emailed me following our phone conversation that took place when he called me, in response to detailed notes I sent to him. Note that I also made him a promotional offer of some bonus gift products if he paid before a deadline of about 36 hours from the time the offer was made:

Hello Tayo
Thanks for the series of articles you’ve issued providing an insight into the importance of record keeping and cost savings.
I also acknowledge receipt of your offer for the purchase of the software. However, I have 3 questions before reaching a final decision on the software purchase.
Firstly, can the software be remotely view from anywhere in the world. In the event of travelling outside the country and being able to monitor activities / performance on site?
Secondly, can 2 users be on the system at the same time. That is the farm manager carrying out the input whilst I await for the output at the other end, at a different location? Or do I need to log out and log back in after he is done with the input.
Thirdly, would you be providing basic record keeping forms that farm staff will need to complete on a daily basis before the actual input is made on the system by the farm manager?
I strongly hope you can respond within a resonable time frame in order to avoid me breaching the offer time frame period.
Thanks in antipicipation of a prompt response.

Here’s the response I sent to him

Thanks for your message,

My responses to your questions begin with “>”:

1. Firstly, can the software be remotely view from anywhere in the world. In the event of travelling outside the country and being able to monitor activities / performance on site?

> No it cannot. However I can add such functionality in a manner that enables cost-effective use in that manner if you wish. For instance I can make it generate a special web page report or PDF that will be automatically emailed to you.

Several other options exist. I will tell you what they are, with pros and cons, then recommend a way forward based on the uniques needs I identify you have from asking you questions.

2. Secondly, can 2 users be on the system at the same time. That is the farm manager carrying out the input whilst I await for the output at the other end, at a different location? Or do I need to log out and log back in after he is done with the input.

> This app can be used across an intranet via 2 or more terminals. However only 1 person will be able to save changes made, and that’s the person who opens it first on the network. However all other persons will be able to view the entries and generate any reports they want from any other terminals.

Having said that, I did not build this app for use in that manner. If this kind of usage is important to you, a different architecture is likely to be needed to make it happen – like that used in the network based Hotel Records Management System I built for a Lagos based hotel that used it for 6 years.

Again adding this functionality requires a development expense. I have ideas of cost-effective ways to get it done. To make it easier for you, I offer to peak to other Farm CEOs using the app to find out if they would like to share the cost of adding that functionality with you – along with that mentioned in 1 above.

3. Thirdly, would you be providing basic record keeping forms that farm staff will need to complete on a daily basis before the actual input is made on the system by the farm manager?

> The app actually comes with an interface containing a customizable farm operations daily records form that you will print out and make photocopies of for each day of the month. The PDF userguide that I will send along with the software contains details, but it’s quite straightforward. Rest assured I will be available to support you anytime.

Important Notes

You first have to buy the app.

The good thing is that once you buy the app you become a member of my Farm Business Ideas Club and that entitles you to a lifetime discount of 40% on all my other products and services.

Adding the functionalities mentioned in 1 and 2 above will however require additional investment on your part. Development fee starts from N100k depending on nature and scope of work to be done.

Another thing I can do is to speak to other Farm CEOs using the app to find out if they would like to share the cost of adding those functionalities with you.

Hope this helps,

Tayo

Summary

This conversation is yet to be concluded. However I have shared these excerpts here to illustrate how I respond to requests that fall outside the scope of the solution I offer. It’s important to always put the client’s needs first. However it is not wise to do so at the expense of your productivity or profitability. The foregoing informed the offers I made to him above. I hope you find this of some use.

No Country Can Really Develop Unless its Citizens are Educated: But What Kind of “Education” is Needed?

“No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated.” – Nelson Mandela

I believe it’s safe to say we all agree that the above quote is accurate.

What I’m not so sure about is how well we all agree on the shape and form this so called “education” should take, to equip those exposed to it, to emerge with real world relevant competence to “develop” their respective countries.

This is why some societies push millions of people through their “educational systems”, who on completing their programs arrive larger society unprepared to deal with realities of fending for themselves, talk less of influencing change to develop society.

The above scenario is a common one, that strongly indicates that societies need to constantly review and evolve their educational systems to give learners the knowledge, skills and attitudes to function as competent members of society.

These persons would not only have the ability to flourish financially and otherwise, but also understand how to work with others to influence positive social change and progress in their society.

When that kind of educational system is in place in any society, the wisdom contained in Mandela’s above mentioned quote will become “harvestable” there.

Take a close look at countries we call developed or advanced today, and you’ll realize most strive continually to reinvent their “educational” systems to equip their learners to deal effectively with the evolving realities of larger society.

In contrast, less developed societies tend to be guilty of doing the exact opposite.

For instance there are countries where parents, education providers and policy makers mindlessly continue to place illogical preference on having youths attend universities to earn degrees, despite ample evidence that many of those instutions in their country offer mostly theoretical learning with little or no practical or real world exposure provided to the learners.

As a result, they continue to blindly operate outdated educational systems, churning out millions of “products” ill equipped to be useful to themselves or the society.

The developed societies on the other hand have various aspects of their system tailored to meet the unique needs and talents of learners, as well as the society.

As a result, learners get useful guidance to choose the best career path to follow, which sometimes would not require a tour of university academics.

For instance some learners demonstrate traits that qualify them to attend Vocational Skills Development programs or technical colleges, emerging with market ready income earning skills that make them unlikely to become a burden on those who support them after comnpleting their “education”.

The same cannot be said for persons who undergo mostly theoretical education.

PII 011: You Need to Coach Your Child to be Resourceful in Life [Watch video of 12 Year Old Building Battery Powered Toy Power Bike from Scratch]

Few weeks ago, I shared a video on my YouTube channel, of a battery-powered toy power bike built by my 12 year old son, using scrap materials he picked up from various places.

Since then I have shown the video to many people in Nigeria and here in Benin Republic, eliciting the same comments of admiration from them.

What most people who have seen the video on the web do NOT know is that I got him to record a 4 part demonstration video of himself building another such toy bike from beginning to the end.

His 14 year old brother helped to hold the Blackberry camera, while playing background music, as he worked.

I share photos and clips from the videos (with details of how to get them and also attend a FREE workshop facilitated by my son) in this article.

I told him to record the video of himself making the bike for 2 main reasons:

  1. I wanted him to have video proof to show that he actually made the first bike, and that he knew how to do it so well that he could make another just as functional, if asked, anytime. Not only did this young man deliver a /similarly functional mobile bike, this new one even ran better (without falling over) than the first one – he corrected the problem causing the instability.
  1. I could see a money making opportunity on several levels such as:
  • Putting nice finishing touches to the bike and selling it to kids, with a guarantee of FREE repairs for every buyer, to encourage more sales.
  • Offering FREE training facilitated by him, to other kids interested in learning how to make the bike themselves. These kids would be asked to buy at least one toy bike and the 4 part demonstration video of him making the bike, in order to attend the training.

NB: My determination to help him launch his toy product for sale grew stronger a few days later, when I saw a Made in China toy car with immovable wheels on sale for N200.0 in a shop.

Getting home, I promptly told Chika and his siblings that I would find a way to help him refine, brand and sell his battery powered bike to parents of kids like his siblings who all loved playing with it.

Believe me: we WILL do it.

By getting him to build another bike from scratch, I established the fact that he knew exactly what to do, and how to do it.

Even now, after seeing him create/build and fix stuff since he was 8, I am still I was awed that he did this successfully despite not having attended any formal learning event.

All he did was to watch a 3 minute video of an American chap, making the bike, and 48 hours later, the sister came running to me saying “Tayo, Chika has made the bike in the video!”

I’d downloaded the video for him and his siblings to watch (we do that A LOT as part of their real world relevant Personal Achievement Based Homeschooling). The American had used nice looking tools such as a hot glue gun, and a professional kit to make the bike.

As can be seen in our video, my son had only the simple tool kit I bought him last year, but he went out and got other scrap with which he improvised to build his own bike.

For instance, while a lighter was used in the video, along with a hot glue gun, my son had to use LOTS of matches in conjunction with a glue stick he got from his mother. The result was that the finished product was not as pretty as that in the video he had watched, but it worked!

So why didn’t I just buy him the stuff he saw used in the video?

First of all, we did not know where to find a hot glue gun, for instance, in Lagos. Stuff like that are not used much in our part of the world.

However the main reason was that I have always trained my kids to try hard at all times to get as much as possible done, with as little as possible. As a result, they have learned to be very adaptable/resourceful in using what they have to get what they want (like I AM).

By so doing they are building a capacity for achieving their goals with little or no money (like I do).

This philosophy has been behind their use of our trademark no-over charcoal stove pot to make cakes, chin-chin, bread, pizza, cookies and our pineapple peel based drinks.

This is why, whenever they do ask for money to try out a new idea, I rarely hesitate to give them whatever they ask.

Below I feature short clips from Chika’s 4 part demonstration video which is now available for purchase for N1, 000.0 (One thousand Naira).

chika-part3

Note that ANY payments for his products will be made directly into his bank account.

The 4 videos are available for direct delivery/download via email, as well as on CD/DVD via courier.

Regarding the FREE demonstration workshop, a minimum of 10 attendees is required for it to hold. So, once the number of buyers equals or exceeds that number, a date and venue will be agreed and communicated to everyone. Click here to request further details.

I share the work I do with my kids as a Best Practice Parenting Advocate – and NOT to brag!

What are you doing to help your child discover, develop and actualize his full genius/potentials? Be warned that schools and school teachers are NOT equipped to help your child with this most important need.

It’s Important that I make that clear. This is NOT about me. Indeed, it’s bigger than me. The future wellbeing and success of many children depends on their parents’ understanding and acceptance of the truths I share here.

You need to be a Coach-Parent to your child. Do not leave him/her to learn via Osmosis from you or any other persons. If you fail to act as a catalyst in the life of your child, especially during his/her formative years, s/he may not forgive you for it later on in life.

How to Show True Patriotism That Can Make Nigeria Achieve Her True Potential

I fly the Nigerian flag high everywhere I travel by constantly striving to be an epitome of good ethical conduct and excellent performance at

You cannot show true patriotism with the words you utter alone. You need to act it out – with confidence, and conviction too. In other words you must walk your talk.

Too often we have people who say good things about Nigeria and profess undying love for, yet they readily engage in unbecoming conduct that gives Nigeria a bad name.

How to Show True Patriotism That Can Make Nigeria Achieve Her True Potential

Nigeria does not need adverts or jingles to tell people, especially foreigners, how great she is.

What she needs is simply for as many Nigerians as possible to form the habit of speaking/acting continually in a manner that gets Nigeria, and Nigerians talked (and thought) about in the best possible terms by as many people, especially foreigners, as possible.

If I can confidently buy clothes and shoes at pocket friendly prices in Nigeria’s Lagos for instance, where my family still lives, without being scared of getting cheated, I would have no need to wait till I return to Cotonou to buy those items(which is what I’ve been doing).

Unfortunately from my experiences over the past 3 years since I began shuttling between Lagos and Cotonoiu, I’ve found people I buy from in Benin to be more trustworthy and sincere.

They tell you the truth and give you what you pay for. In contrast many sellers in Nigeria do the opposite, often fleecing their customers for extra gain.

Late last year (2016) I had to return to Nigeria thrice in one week to replace laptop chargers sold to me by a vendor in Lagos’ Ikeja Computer Village.

The first time I came back to complain, the wonderful guy actually tried to make me pay for the replacement.

In Benin most sellers would gladly take back the problematic item and replace/fix it as may be necessary!

Why I say all this: My patriotism never makes me unwilling to point out and demand correction of any shortcomings I observe regarding my country or its people, whenever they occurs.

To accurately claim ownership of authentc leadership status, one must be willing to subject one’s self to the most ecxacting standards possible and meet/exceed them consistently.

You don’t verbally lay claim to leadership:

You must first of all demonstrate incontrovertible competence and proficiency. Doing so will help you command the recogintion of those matter (rhought leaders).

In the case of Nigeria as a nation, we must make the aforementioned happen before we can realistically expect her to be seen to be great.

To make Nigeria become the true Giant she has the (much hackneyed) potential to become, Nigerians must begin to act and speak in the ways prescribed above

Look around you. Regarding what is required to earn a decent living as an adult in society, the world has changed completely from what it was when your parents (and grandparents!) were young.

Back then, all you needed to do was “go to school, and get good grades” – and you were almost sure to get picked up to start a high paying job by a top company right from the grounds of your university!

That stopped being the case a long time ago.

Back then, all you needed to do was “go to school, and get good grades” – and you were almost sure to get picked up to start a high paying job by a top company right from the grounds of your university!

That stopped being the case a long time ago.

Today, PC and Internet technology has changed (and continues to change) all the rules about schooling, money making/income earning etc.

The new reality is that only those who avoid making the mistake of resisting the changes…who instead “adapt” what they learn and do (and how they learn and do it), to today’s constantly and rapidly changing world, will be assured of sustainable authentic successes.

What is most noteworthy is that most of what needs to be learned, for one to succeed in this new dispensation is still NOT being taught in our conventional schools.

The onus is therefore on YOU to go out of your way to learn as much of it as you will need out in the real world.

Take it from me:

All you need to get started on your way to success in life today is the ability to read and write competently.

With that skill, you can learn virtually anything you want, to earn a decent living – without necessarily going into paid employment. Or if you take up a job, what you learn will equip you to profitably engage in income generating activities in your spare time, to complement your salary.

PC and Internet technology has made (and continues to make) it so easy and convenient to get the multidimensional kind of real world relevant education needed to excel today. in virtually any area of endeavour you apply dedicated effort to.

The days when you could only get ahead by presenting “degree certificates” to get jobs/earn income are long gone – never to return.

You need to wake up to this reality and arm yourself to deal with its potential implications for your income earning prospects.

You need to do this, not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones – especially your kids.

Many of my Best Practice Parenting articles on this blog feature true stories, photos and videos showing how I’ve been doing just that for my kids through the Personal Achievement Coaching for Kids (PACK) program I developed.

As a result they are acquiring real world relevant knowledge, attitudes and skills designed to enable them emerge as competent, independent minded income earning adults in society, who can hold their own wherever they go!

So how exactly do you go about doing this I.e arming yourself to deal with its potential implications for your income earning prospects?

It’s simple.

Start paying more attention to learning and developing practial/tried and tested techniques and strategies to take what you learn(ed) in your formal schooling, combined with what you learn elsewhere, to solve real life problems you’ve established that others will gladly pay for.

If you’re honest with yourself, you will acknowledge that many people who lack formal education already profit daily from doing the above all around you.

The formal schooling you have may give you an advantage over such persons, but that is only if you make the effort to apply it to your purposes in a manner that works.

If you succeed in evolving into the above described mode of life, you will leave the leagues of those to be called “illiterates” in this 21st century – and beyond!

[IMPORTANT NOTE:====

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts

he’s published.

If you experience any difficulties finding a page or document, email Tayo at tksola dot com.

Click “Tayo, What Happened to

SpontaneousDevelopmentDotCom ?” to read a detailed narrative about how the above event occurred :-))

Here’s an article Tayo wrote, to inspire others to defy adversity, and bounce back to even greater reckoning at what they do EVERY time:

Succeed by Emerging from Adversity Like a Phoenix

(TayoSolagbade.com launches extra Hosting plan with FREE Web Marketing!)

And he wrote the one below, to explain why losing a domain name, no matter how old, NO LONGER determines your online success or otherwise:

A Proven Strategy to Find Profitable Buyers Regardless of Your Domain Name
