To Succeed, Expose Bad Employees: Don’t Abuse Them!

About 4 years ago, I resolved to begin selling my custom Excel-VB Software products and Web Marketing Systems Development services remotely – 100% online.

I did this because in working offline, I periodically witnessed the unpleasant situation in which some clients chose NOT to pay their employees what was due and just – and I DID NOT LIKE it one bit.

When I casually inquired to know why these CEOs did that, many indicated they perpetually suspected their employees of stealing from/cheating them in one or more ways they had yet to uncover.

So they used that “feeling” to justify delaying or denying them payment as often as was possible to explain away.

One particular client once traveled for holidays with his family and let over 100 employees without salaries paid from end November till mid-January of the New Year.

I was there, working all through that period as a consultant, developing a custom Excel-VB app for the company.

The conversations my ears overheard during that time there made me weep and at the same time rage.

You see, I found that some of the workers were indeed cutting corners in the workplace, and actually stealing from the company.

But I also saw that MANY more were honest, hardworking easy going persons just trying to support their families.

This latter group ended up being made to needlessly suffer for the sins of a naughty few, not because it was unavoidable, but because the CEO was too intellectually lazy to develop a system to “catch” the bad eggs and also close loop holes they could exploit.

That laziness ultimately costs such CEOs for the long term by way of a prolonged LACK OF PEACE OF MIND/FULFILLMENT.

Personally, I would rather not live life that way. No matter how much money you make, you are most likely to feel miserable most of the time.

The articles below offer ready-to-use ideas CEOs can use to eliminate worries they have about employees, so they can feel happy paying them what is due and just.

Back in 2000, when I first encountered his newsletter while I was working in paid employment, Terry Dean was already living the digital lifestyle earning income 100% online as a Digital Marketer/Publisher.

Today, Terry – as the person introducing him in the video I feature in this piece rightly points out – is widely recognised as a living legend and pioneer of the Internet Lifestyle. He has coached thousands of notable achievers to success in earning a living online.

In this video recording showing excerpts from a LIVE event he spoke at, Terry shares insights about how he got started from working a job, to working from home and never needing to work for anyone again.

Below, I have transcribed aspects where he shared his deep wisdom about how to develop the writing proficiency you will need to make a living online.

Your ability to write convincingly, in the manner described by Terry (and which I’ve touched on in several articles and books I’ve written over the past 10 years) will be a crucial determinant of your success or otherwise.

Click here to watch the video.

Read the excerpts from Terry’s talk, that I transcribed for your benefit. But don’t stop there: APPLY them and make them yours, so you can achieve the success you seek in selling online!

Do you want to know how you become an expert? In America?

You Write a book! That’s how you become an expert.

It doesn’t even have to be a good book.

The basic principle about writing, is that you have to write and then edit later…because we’re still under the perfectionist complex.
Create a basic outline of what you wanna write:

A working title, which will change later most likely.

Some basic points that you wanna talk about.

And then start writing…and don’t quit writing, until you’re done.

Lock yourself away to do it, if necessary.

If you have a week’s vacation from work coming up – that’s when you do it!

And you do it all…until you don’t wanna write anymore.

And here’s what your mind will constantly say: That’s not perfect – delete, delete, delete, delete…

Type, type, type…I don’t like that either….delete, delete, delete…

And if you do that for 2 hours…what do you have after those 2 hours?

Nothing!

You have nothing. You stare at a blank page.

A principle of copywriting, that applies to all types of writing, is that…

New writers/new copywriters: The first few things they write, you end up deleting all of them anyway, because you’re just getting warmed up, just getting into the groove.

But that takes place during the editing process.

And if you write and delete to start over, you never get to the good stuff.

So, you wanna sit down and write quickly.

Write it all out – no matter how bad it looks right now.

….

If you’re writing an email…customer, list, pre-list, it doesn’t matter….

I want you to pick out one person in the list that you know well and I want you to write your email as if you’re sending your email as if your were sending just an email just to them.
No matter what you’re doing.

You’re giving out free information? Same rule.

You’re writing ad copy? Same rule!

Write it as if you’re writing to someone who is your friend.

And do you know what will happen?

Over time, after getting the communications, if you’ve done a good job of it, they’re going to feel like you’re friends.
You might not have a hundred thousand subscribers, but can you find someone who does in your niche?

And you don’t that many…that’s why I mentioned that you might not have 5,000 buyers, but can you find someone who does?

And if you can, we now have the potential to reach this niche, because we now know what they want – because they already told us.
Your direct response website is simply a sales letter.

Pretty websites win awards.

Plain websites with good copy make money.

A website that makes money is never going to be the same one that wins awards.

This Zero Cost Marketing Strategy Will Make Total Strangers Confidently Send You Money

If you’re like most people, you believe in spending money to make money in business – which is not a bad strategy. However, history attests to the fact that viable zero cost alternative ways exist to make money, if one would only learn to use them. In these times when advertising funds are harder to find, if you want to keep your profits up, you need to add “Marketing Without Advertising (MWA)” to your business promotion arsenal. Read on to learn more in this experience based article.

TIP: If you already practice MWA, I ask that you forgive me for being presumptuous. But then again, what exactly is it you do, that you believe qualifies to be called “Marketing Without Advertising”?

In the rest of this article I offer introductory insights, to guide any persons interesting in using MWA to promote products and services they offer.

First let me say I make no claims to knowing it all. I do not wish to create the impression that I have superior knowledge or monopoly of it.

However, my interactions both on and off the web with lots of persons engaged in business marketing at various levels, have consistently revealed to me that most of them lack a sound understanding.

I mean they do NOT know how to SUCCESSFULLY (and for the long term) promote the solutions they offer, to those who need it, without coming across as being too “pushy”.

For me, Marketing Without Advertising means: communicating the fact that a solution you offer can help your target audience in a manner that makes the latter feel you can help them solve a problem they wish to be rid off, and NOT that you’re just trying to get money off them.

Recall the “pushy salespersons” strategy in which sales personnel and entrepreneurs go after potential buyers they identify with die hard determination?

Yes – the one that often involves near literal arm twisting of the latter into buying-submission?

Well, none of that happens during the process of Marketing Without Advertising. So if you do THAT, you are definitely NOT practicing MWA!

In MWA…instead of a push mentality, a pull philosophy is adopted by the intending sales person/marketer. Rather than aim to pressure prospects to buy, emphasis is placed on providing valuable information and education in a no-strings-attached manner that inspires trust and confidence.

At that point the prospect tends to take ownership of the process and begins to push to get more specific details from the intending seller. By then the relationship tends to be one in which the seller is viewed as an expert authority with the reliable competence to provide a solution that addresses the buyer’s needs.

One of the most powerful tools for practicing MWA, based on my personal experiences, is information publishing (done via writing, where possible in combination with public speaking).

But I LOVE writing more because it allows you to leverage the potentially unlimited reach of the Internet.

Through that channel you can get your message considered by a global audience without being limited by distance.

This is especially important when you consider how public speaking requires that you get invited by an audience in a location that you can reach. Not all audiences and locations will be easily reachable in that manner.

But with writing, a variety of possibilities become available to you. All of them at more or less zero cost, when you choose to use the web.

You can write articles, case studies, white papers, eBooks, paperback/print books, magazines etc. The web offers myriad low to zero cost platforms you can use to achieve your marketing purpose.

However it takes some doing, and even more know-how to succeed with this approach.

Especially where it concerns knowing what to write, how to write it, to whom you will write it and when/where you will write it.

Believe it or not, the answers to each of the foregoing will often differ over time, and depending on what you’re trying to sell.

This is why you need to LEARN how to succeed at Marketing Without Advertising.

You need to read the works of those who have used it successfully, and who are willing to share their wisdom about how to get it right.

One good example is THIS writer – as are MANY of those from whose works I have learned over the past decade or so e.g. Michel Fortin, Burt Dubin, Dan Kennedy.

A proven way to establish yourself as an expert authority in the market you serve, so as to sell more, is to become a formally published author in your area of expertise.

Therefore if you really want to excel at MWA, you need to make getting published in as many ways as possible a major priority.

You need to get your original ideas published for sale to a global audience in both print (i.e. paperback/physical) as well as digital form

Today, it’s many times easier than it used to be. PC and Internet Technology have made it so much easier.

You can now ignore the brick and mortar publishers, with their prohibitive fees, and adopt instead the Print On Demand Publishing (POD) service provided by web based companies like www.lulu.com – where I’ve done what I recommend you do, since 2005.

A web based POD publishing company will typically be a Zero Cost publishing platform with global marketing reach, and multiple book contents delivery formats e.g. PDF, Kindle, and Print/paperback etc.

You pay nothing to get published in print or eBook format with them. They only make money when you do – and it’s your buyer that pays – NOT you!

Nothing beats marketing that yields income in form of monthly royalty payments!

In other words, even as you use your published work to command high profile marketplace attention from your target market, this system enables you earn income from sales of the books online.

I propose you aim to hit the ground running in January 2017, with www.yourname.com (?) and the rest of a custom Web Marketing System (WMS) I will build for you.

Your WMS will be a flagship multifaceted online presence branded to attract pre-qualified prospects you will offer high profile products and services to.

Your wealth of knowledge, insights, and experience can be monetized to offer a GUIDE BOOK of some sort for persons looking for solutions like those you offer.

Your target audience comprises people who currently seek RELIABLE providers of such solutions. They complain about wasting time with others they often end up discovering are not competent, or worse – are fraudulent.

Chances are however good that those who really need your help may not be able to tell you can “save them” just by seeing you/your photo, your flyer or your office!

If only they knew you were different. If only someone they trusted could tell them that YOU are not like the others – which you always deliver what you promise.

Sigh…if only they knew.

But they often will NOT know….that your knowledge and expertise is valuable and reliable.

However, once they trust you, those same people previously unwilling to trust, will gladly pay to have access to you.

I can help you create a platform via the web to make that happen for you on a regular basis. To the extent that total strangers will feel comfortable trusting you at first “contact”.

I mean complete strangers trust you enough to CONFIDENTLY send you money or hire you – like they have done with me for YEARS.

But they can discover that truth from progressive exposure to your MWA messages over time.

What makes this strategy great is that the written word can be accessed in various ways both on and off the web – especially online where most people today go to look for information and education.

Yep. Google.com and other search engines.

So, you just need to get your MWA messages found via those online search platforms, and you’ll be well on your way.

Of course, that will not be all.

Smart use of social media platforms, newsletter marketing, blog based publishing and other techniques used in intelligent combination is what will really deliver optimal marketing reach and impact that you need to make.

It’s NOT easy to do, but it can be done. I have been doing it with increasing success for years now, and I help clients do the same – using a custom WMS.

Those who are willing to do the hard work involved get the promised results.

If you are willing to do the same, click here to contact me.

This Scary Future Predicted for Your Car Is Closer to The Present Than You Know

If you like, you can bury your figurative head in the figurative sand, like a figurative (human) Ostrich – the future predicted below is ALREADY here – Tesla is just unveiling it on behalf of many others silently creating it. For those who love (or “worship”?) their cars and similar stuff, many are going to end up with “broken hearts”!

“Around 2020, the complete industry will start to be disrupted. You don’t want to own a car anymore. You will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination.

You will not need to park it, you only pay for the driven distance and can be productive while driving. Our kids will never get a driver’s license and will never own a car. It will change the cities, because we will need 90-95% fewer cars for that.

PII 038: To Succeed, Today’s Agricultural Extension Professionals Need Entrepreneurship and Spreadsheet Automation Skills

For success in this century and beyond, African societies hoping to profit from Agriculture MUST first of all accept the reality that developing Agriculture is simply NO longer enough. Deliberate and focused effort must instead be persistently applied to developing AGRIBUSINESS.

At the risk of stating the obvious, there is a MASSIVE difference between both concepts.

Here’s my way of illustrating the difference…

I like to think of “Agriculture” as: Farming the Old Way

This has to do with engagement in the activity of farming, with no conscious attention being given to whether or not that activity translates into – significant and sustainable – profit making, financially, and otherwise, for the practitioners.

There was a time when doing “Agriculture” the old way, even here in Africa, was not an unsafe way of life. Back then, things were not as complex and erratic as they are today. Pries of inputs were more stable and affordable. Ready markets existed for most farm produce, both locally and internationally. Most importantly, majority of the population in most African societies were still comfortable being openly engaged in agriculture/farming as a vocation.

Indeed, back then in Nigeria, schools had anthems that kids were taught to recite, which emphasized the importance of engaging in farming. One such anthem, in Yoruba, read in part as follows:

Iwe kiko lai si oko, at ada (Academic study without the hoe and cutlass)

Ko ipe o. Ko ipe o. (Is not complete. Is not complete.)

Ise agbe ni ise ile wa, Eni ko sise, a ma ja le (Farming is the work of our fatherland. Whoever does not work, will steal)

In the past 20 years of my life, I have NOT heard the above anthem sung in ANY school. During my time in school, we never got asked to sing it, but we heard adults who had left school before us recall the heady days when they did just that as they attended school.

Try getting today’s Nigerian youths at ANY level of schooling to sing that song, and I’ll be surprised if they show any enthusiasm.

Even their teachers will balk at the suggestion. Hey. Try it. Go out there and ask school kids if they’ll sing it in public – or ask school teachers if they’ll ask their learners to sing it.

Go a step further and ask the teachers to actually put what the anthem preaches into practice by having learners adopt physical farm work as part of their normal school curriculum. Not the fancy stuff they do in special uniforms that rarely get dirty – but the one in which they are made to really do the deed!

Chances are good that you’ll get complaints not just from the kids, but also their parents and the teachers themselves.

Why?

Well, that’s because a lot has changed in the value system upheld in the society today, compared to what obtained in the past, when that anthem reigned in school.

Following the economic boom that resulted from the discovery of oil in Nigeria, and general industrial development, white collar jobs became the vogue, mainly because they delivered heftier financial rewards in a shorter time period compared to most farm businesses and with much less physical exertion. It made common sense, for most people to follow the money. So the rural to urban migration happened, as it did in other societies.

The only problem was that in Nigeria, even though who did not have the training or competence to take advantage of the city jobs, also migrated. This latter group, were often those well equipped or gifted with the know-how to continue with farming. As a result, agriculture got neglected.

And I like to think of “Agribusiness” as: Farming the New Way

In other societies, especially in the developed world, rural urban migration also happened, with the advent of industrial development.

However, they were proactive enough to create a model that enables those with farming know-how to go beyond practicing just agriculture, to doing agribusiness.

It is instructive to note here that they’ve been doing this for decades: so it’s not really a new way in the true sense of it – but to the extent that we in Africa have yet to make it a way of life like they have, it remains relatively new.

The ability to do agribusiness enabled those not willing to migrate to the city, to continue farming because they were able to reap returns that made staying in that vocation worthwhile in the long term, even when compared to potential monetary rewards to be had from getting white collar jobs.

The best part was that those who practiced agribusiness got to be their own bosses, and therefore retained relatively more freedom over their personal time, than did those who chose to take up paid employment in the city.

It is for this reason, that one finds many farm business enterprises in places like Europe and America being passed down for 2,3, 4 and more generations – feeding, clothing, schooling and securing the financial futures of the offspring of their founders.

In contrast, out here, most enterprises, no matter how large, often fail and die out within a matter of years after the founder has passed on.

The case for Extension Professionals With Entrepreneurship and Spreadsheet Automation Skills

If Nigeria/Africa is to reap the long term rewards of farming, those who engage in it MUST be able to not just turn out sustainable profits, but also setup systems to keep those profit making farms going long after they pass on!

This is why I argue that a new generation or breed of Extension professionals is needed in any society that wishes to succeed in making farming a reliable means of long term employment and income generation.

Traditional extension experts are often people who take up employment with government agencies or NGOs to support farm businesses in various areas.

The problem I have identified with this approach is that these people often approach their jobs with an employee mindset. Quite often they simply go through the motions of doing whatever is required of them as spelt out in their job descriptions or briefs.

Given the unique challenges found in the typical socio-economic environment of Nigeria/Africa, that kind of disposition generally means there will be little incentive on the extension personnel’s part to go the extra mile to do anything.

Yet, quite often, the key to succeeding in providing support to farm businesses will be the ability to do more than is required as the unique situations that occur on demand.

Entrepreneurial ability can be learned. A key aspect has to do with being able to visualize, and then take action with persistence, till a set goal is achieved.

An Entrepreneurial Extension Professional will be able to see beyond what EACH farm business owner s/he serves sees i.e. the big picture of where the business can go, what it can do etc.

S/he will be able to narrow down to the unique strengths that can be developed and weaknesses that need to be trimmed down, so as to ensure the longevity of the enterprise. Using these insights the extension professional will then act as a catalyst guiding the farm business owner to take the right steps to grow his/her brand over time, beyond the level of traditional farm operations.

In order to play the above role effectively and efficiently, the extension professional will find custom spreadsheet automation know-how to be an invaluable skill to possess.

This is because running an agribusiness enterprise profitably will depend greatly on establishing a firm ability to accurately and reliably carry out routine farm operations data recording, analysis and report generation for timely decision making.

Using spreadsheet automation, s/he will be able to help even PC-novice farm CEOs setup systems to reliably carryout data handling, trending and analysis that help the owner better understand the farm process’ potential, so as to inform more accurate planning.

Most importantly, however, a extension professional with this mix of skills will be able to help farm CEOs eventually see the bigger picture s/he is seeing, so they can then jointly work towards building additional streams of income beyond those from direct sales of farm products e.g. farm products processing, passive income streams from monetization of farm CEOs expertise in form of book sales, training, consultancy, etc.

I say this from over 10 years of providing multidisciplinary extension-type support for farm CEOs within and outside Africa, using the web, and in person. These people go through a lot, and are constantly in need of advisory, as well as resource support.

They come to me via phone, email, Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook and even Twitter, demanding, sometimes pleading for help of all kinds. Sadly, since I am NOT a charity, I find myself unable to offer most of them the support they need without requiring payment.

This is why I believe the state needs extension professional with my mix of abilities, to serve its farmers, if they are to excel (Hint: I hold a B.Sc degree in Agricultural Extension Services from Nigeria’s University of Ibadan).

Below, and on other pages of this website, I feature products I create and sell to Farm CEOs using my spreadsheet automation skills. There is demand from them for more, but I have found that most would benefit more from having in-house support to do it themselves, or the assistance of extension personnel with the skill.

So, How Do You Equip Your Extension Professionals With Entrepreneurship and Spreadsheet Automation Skills?

Sadly, space precludes my covering that in THIS piece.

But it would be my pleasure to formally elaborate on how to go about it, in a paper I’ve prepared on that subject. Click here to invite me.

[IMPORTANT NOTE:====

On 4th May 2014, Tayo’s 9 year old domain (Spontaneousdevelopment dot com), which hosted his website, was taken over by Aplus.net.

Within a few days however, Tayo used his advanced self-taught web development skills to build a SUPERIOR “reincarnation” of it the website http://www.tayosolagbade.com.

But updates are still ongoing to URLs bearing the old domain name in most of the over 1,000 web pages, and blog posts

he’s published.
