How to Make Drinks You CAN SELL, from Peels of Pineapples & Nine (9) Other Fruits!
If you’re someone looking for a viable business venture to start, this is ONE I assure you cannot go wrong with.
Over the past 2 months, I’ve watched with growing frustration huge quantities of pineapple rind get thrown away by vendors who sell the fruit here in Calavi.
And I’ve often imagined that the same thing happens across the country.
Yet, a little knowledge about what can be done with these leftovers can easily create useful income generating employment for others – or enable the vendors earn additional income.
That’s why I’m really excited about this new service I’m launching!
Finally, I can offer ideas and support to people interested in making use of wastes from fruits like Pineapples and others, to earn decent income.

You see, when I left Guinness to start my own outfit, I always planned to use my brewing background to complement my Agro-based activities. I’ve always wanted to launch my own range of “home brewed” drinks.
What I Offer
I intend to share elaborate details of how to setup different fruit based drinks production outfits on this blog. There will also be recipes of all kinds based on trials I’ll be conducting.
My purpose is also to encourage interested persons to consult or hire me to help them setup production units, or prepare feasibility studies for them.
And, I’ll also be helping myself in the process.
For instance, I’m already approaching potential investors to partner with me to start my own Pineapple peels-based drinks production outfit (with a unique twist I’m keeping to myself for now) here in Benin Republic. It’s going to happen soon.
So take a look at the flyer I’ve created below, and follow the instructions in it to take advantage of my offer.
Finishing My Commercial Rabbit Farming Guide: Between Samuel Agossou, & Benin’s Songhai Integrated Farming Centre
It’s been an interesting experience trying to implement my plan for finishing off this guide. So far I’ve only established working relationships with micro operators who have backyard rabbitries they run. (I’ll confess though, that other activities have eaten into time I could have put into following up more effectively).
I already have videos and photos following the ready access they’ve granted me to their facilities. I’m currently helping one look for restaurant and hotel operators interested in placing bulk orders from him.
For my purposes however, I need access to much larger operations, to make this guide more useful for those who will use it.
That’s why I’m keen to connect with Agossou and Songhai.
1. Samuel Agossou
One aspect of my plans that’s not progressing well is my search for Samuel Agossou, a Beninese farmer who reportedly bred 700,000 rabbits in 7 years, bought a house for his family from profits, and pays each of his 12 employees $25 US Dollars monthly.
Watch this video about him:
I found out about him 4 months ago through some foreign NGO’s website.
I’ve read about the 2011 IFAD workshop held at Cotonou’s Palais Du Congress (Google it), where he was discovered.
And I’ve also read this PDF TerraViva report published by IFAD which proves (?) he’s based right here in Benin Republic.
In my article, I mentioned meeting with members of an NGO based in Cotonou (CINC), who were also featured in the above mentioned TerraViva report.
However, they also did not know Agossou.
Why I Want to Meet Agossou
My purpose is to request an interview with him to be published as a special feature in my Commercial Rabbit Farming Guide (see http://www.tayosolagbade.com). He gets a FREE complimentary PDF copy of the finished guide.
I also wish to offer him ideas (e.g. income generating uses of rabbit pelts and other by products), and support, to prepare learning resources to train interested others.
It is my considered opinion, that this amazing gentleman’s expertise can be used to boost agro entrepreneurship and related income, not just in Benin, but across the entire continent of Africa.
I’ve Written Emails to IFAD & Gotten No Responses
And after my last post in which I mentioned reading an IFAD TerraViva report about him, I’ve written emails to IFAD.
I requested their help in retrieving contact details he must have submitted as a participant in the 2011 workshop.
A. Ms Abelle Dossou Houessou – Consultant, Acting Country Programme Officer,
IFAD
Below: Screenshot of e-mail I sent to her
I basically requested possible data to contact him. No response came back to me.
b. I then decided to write directly to IFAD, using the details on their website.
Below: Screenshot of e-mail I sent to IFAD
Again, I got no response to my email.
It’s All So Strange – This Silence In Spite of Volumes in Web Pages and PDF
This makes me wonder what exactly to think. Could it be that the people who told me Agossou does not exist are right?
If yes, does that not by implication make IFAD look bad, considering all the elaborate coverage they have given this guy on their website, and publications?
2. Songhai Integrated Farming Centre in Porto Novo
During my very first week here, on the 4th of April to be specific, I travelled from Cotonou to Porto Novo, to drop off my proposal to the director of the popular Songhai Integrated Farming Centre.
I’ve known Father Godfrey Nzamujo since 1987 or so, when I read about the Hunger Project Award given to him, in the monthly African Farmer magazine I subscribed to at the time.
Back then I was a student of Agriculture in the University of Ibadan.
People who know me well will easily attest to the fact that once I develop solid interest in anything, nothing – absolutely nothing – can make me drop it.
Right through my five year stay in the university, as well as during my 7 year sojourn in paid employment in Guinness Nigeria, I tracked progress made by Nzamujo. Word spread about his work. Newspapers did feature reports on him/the centre. At a point, transcripts of speeches he gave began turning up on some websites.
Songhai eventually put up a website.
However I remain quite dissatisfied with what they currently do with that website. This is not about web design or technology. It’s the USE to which they put it that I refer.
They can get more tangible value from it. In my letter, I offered NO FEE learning events to help them make their website generate reliable passive income streams for them.
There is so much they do they can monetize digitally – including their “information and expert know-how or expertise”!
Not everything has to be done physically and in person.
A well conceived Web Marketing Plan can help this wonderful organization serve many more people.
Some people cannot afford to travel to Benin, but they need access to the amazing wealth of information and education the Songhai centre offers.
Such people can be effectively served what they need via the website. And the centre can reap financially rewarding benefits in the process.
People do it every day on the web. Songhai has everything it takes to do the same. And their graduates can learn how to use the web in the same way to reap MORE rewards as experts in their fields.
I’ve been doing it since 2007 with my Cost-Saving Farm Business Support Website, where I offer my feed formulation handbook and sofware for sale. And I do not even have a farm business on ground yet!
I met with key officers at the centre, who advised me on how to drop off my proposal to the Director (who had travelled). They made it clear that he alone can review my offer.
Below: A screenshot of the letter I dropped off with the secretary in his office:
Since then, I’ve tried calling by phone, but each time I’ve been informed he travelled.
Under such circumstances, very little looks possible for the moment. So I’m thinking of a stunt I can pull to get the director’s serious attention 😉
Got any ideas I can use?
F-Y-I: Google Confirms Hacker Attacks On This Website
I’ve periodically announced the fact that I believe that – this website (spontaneoudevelopment.com) – is a target of selectively orchestrated online attacks. Well, this past Wednesday 22nd May 2013, I got a detailed email from Google Web master Support confirming some of my suspicions.
Below is the detailed hacker email alert sent me by Google, and also the email I’ve since sent to my web host – in line with the advice given by Google.
I’ve also already commenced taking action to clean out the mentioned sites.
(Yesterday a power blackout lasting from about 8.30a.m till 10pm across Benin Republic meant I was unable to start earlier).
|
Here’s My Understanding Of The Discovery Made By Google About Attacks On My Websites
I’m sharing all this information to help others, who now, or in future, may have similar experiences. It always helps to read about what others faced, and measures they took to recover.
The malicious code discovered on my websites by Google, was found to be (selectively) redirecting people who visit my website to possible scam – or spam – websites.
So, when someone visits my website from Google, they may even get a virus or malicious code warning about my website. And this will make the intending visitor quickly leave! They never arrive at that page. But I won’t know its happening.
In the meantime, Google will exclude that page from their searches – and I will receive less visits, enquiries and subscribers. That’s been happening – but my consistent blogging has helped cushion the effects a little bit.
See how complicated this whole issue is – and it’s devastating effect on my ability to earn more income?
Additional Insights Into The Negative Impact Of This Hacker Attack
It’s with this Google confirmation that I’m now able to put 2 and 2 together, to make sense of the strange experiences I’ve been having.
Burt Dubin has – as usual – kindly written in, on learning of this new development. My thanks to him – and my friends/family – for all the moral support, as I tackle these different efforts to pull me down (and they are MANY I tell you – without exaggeration).
There’s a consistent odd/tell tale trend I’ve noticed in these attacks. And those I’ve pointed it out to agree with me, that it is a good sign that these attacks are being done (or sponsored) by people who know me, and who want to discredit me. They are not the usual random attacks.
For instance, specific pages and documents on my website (e.g. my PDF resume, learning event PDF flyers and other pages specifically used to showcase my products and services for sale) are selectively attacked – not the entire website!
They also attacked my popular articles (which I still have on HTML pages) that attract a lot of readers. Those pages used to come up in Google, now they don’t.
The obvious purpose is to prevent me from gaining enough credibility to convert more visitors into buyers (like I did with the Canadian Farm Project Manager priest – to their surprise I’m sure).
It’s even affected my efforts to gain marketing traction for my learning events and new products here in Benin Republic. I’ve had so many in-person meetings that started out looking promising.
Then we would part by exchanging cards, and the prospects would promise to visit my website as agreed, in readiness for a follow up meeting.
As you can imagine, a visit to the website that results in a virus warning or a scam offer will NOT inspire any confidence in a prospect to pursue furthr relations with the owner!
Now consider the REAL possibility that ALL those I’ve been sending my Guest Posts, English-French Guide CDROMs and Seminar proposals to have been having that experience?!!
Our Websites Need To Be Protected – And We Will Often Need All The Help We Can Get
I’m not giving details of the solution I’ve settled on.
But the trends I’ve noticed in these attacks strongly suggest implementing it will make a lasting world of difference. Where I’ve been using this planned solution, I’ve NEVER had this problem, so I intend to simply extend it to the rest of the website.
Sadly, all this has prevented me from building on my success from a few months back.
It took a lot of work to get that far. I’d continued work to build on it. But I found it so strange that everything just came to an almost complete halt.
Google has now helped show why this happened, with this email advice they sent me. I’m now working hard to clean up the entire website to (as they correctly put it) protect my visitors/users.
Most of what I’m trying to achieve in my business (online and off the web) depends on how my website presents me.
That’s where I put up most of my marketing material to support even my offline efforts. Today, people readily Google you, and check your website out to make up their minds.
Mine has helped me earn decent income (and achieve great marketing mileage/exposure) while spending VERY little – even from Nigerians who find it hard to trust themselves talk less of others.
They’ve sent me money from different parts of the country. I have CEOs in Lagos, Niger, Kano, Ibadan and other places who own businesses (e.g. farms, and other companies) that have bought my handbook and subscribe to my newsletter, and are now friends but we’ve never met!
Someone I’d never met before even sent N35,000 (approx. $230 USD) into my bank account, two full weeks before travelling from over 8 hours away in Akwa Ibom, to meet me in Lagos. It was on a Saturday, and I spent about 4 hours putting him through practical Feed Formulation at a feed mill in Oko Oba, late last year.
Why Would A Stranger Send Me Payment 2 weeks Ahead For An In-Person Training? It Was Simply Based On What He Read On My Website.
And That’s How Powerful Your Writing Can Be!
If you own a website, you probably depend on it to achieve similar goals.
That’s why when your website is not in a good state of health, your chances of making useful progress are limited.
So, this kind of attack is something we all need to protect ourselves against. And we will often need all the help we can get to do so successfully.
When focussing on the serious business of attracting clients for your services, it can be annoying to discover “hidden”
attacks like these diluting one’s efforts. This has been an on-going battle for close to 2 years now.
Everytime I
clean it out, they come right back. I’m determined to make this
the last.
I’m grateful for the support provided by Google via their Webmaster tools email alert, and for my web host (Hostgator)’s usual amazing support.
PS: Oh, by the way, I know the “bad guys” are on my newsletter mailing list, and also possibly tune in via RSS etc. So they’re always lurking, with malicious intent.
Well, Here Are Some FINAL WORDS for Those Haters to Chew On…
A proverb in my language (Yoruba) says:
“Ota o le pa kadara mi da. Won kan le fa owo ago pada si ehin ni”
Literal translation: Enemies/haters/evil-doers cannot change my destiny. They can only pull the hands of the clock backwards”.
Contextual translation: “People who try to hurt/stop you can never succeed unless you let them. The best they can do is to slow you down. Eventually, if you don’t stop, YOU will wear THEM down.”
And of course, I hope you know that your “destiny” is what you make of it?
Yes it is!
Like Williams Jennings Bryan said…
“Destiny is not a matter of chance, but of choice. Not something to wish for, but to attain.”
Sigh. If these guys knew where I draw my inspiration from, they would have quit long ago. But becasue they are so DAFT, they persist in wasting their time.
How do you stop a guy who simply does not understand how to give up?
Your best bet is: Shoot him…and make sure you don’t miss!
The problem you will have is MY creator will not let ANYONE succeed in doing that to me.
Evil can never triumph over GOOD. Falsehood can never defeat TRUTH. Period.
So “haters”, if you can find better things to do with your time, I’d really advise you do SO NOW. You will NOT win this war. I’m in this to the end – and by then I’ll be the last one standing. Believe it.
FYI: Orchestrated Sabotage Campaign Against This Website
The email (in the screenshot below) is a 419 – that is scam – message being circulated disguised as if it’s from my website email (tayo at spontaneousdevelopment.com).
Believe it or not, this one came right into my inbox yesternight – got me wondering why I would send myself an email, till I read the contents…
Click the screenshot below to view my detailed illustration
This is the 1st bit of proof I’m getting to confirm the suspicions I’ve had that my work online is being sabotaged.
2 days ago, I discovered one of the websites I’ve earned income from had deleted my account without notice*
*******!
NB: Just this evening, I got a response from the above mentioned website to my enquiry saying my account had been reactivated. (See screenshot below). So that’s ONE less to worry about. But the big matter of the scam emails above remains…
*******
Earlier LinkedIn.com locked my account accusing me of “suspicious activity”.
This has been a serious running battle for me for a while.
A group of people are orchestrating these attacks to stop the obvious growth of my website traffic, and my profile.
These are mostly sponsored attacks. And it’s difficult to trace them
See (below) the links to articles I’ve had to publish on my website each time I’ve been punished for what I did not do as above.
Below the links is a message I included in an application I just submitted to a network. It gives details.
1. http://spontaneousdevelopment.com/sdnuggets/if-you-cant-find-me-on-linkedin-com-heres-why/
2. http://spontaneousdevelopment.com/sdnuggets/how-to-unmask-defeat-blood-sucking-vampires/
One thing is certain. They can never stop me.
==BELOW: The message I submitted to an online forum in which I had to warn the owners about the above situation==
I need to say this.
I’m having a running battle getting some bad guys off my back with regard to my website and blog. It’s costing me access to income earning and reputation building networks.
If you accept me into this forum PLEASE know that I do NOT do any kind of spamming, scamming or illegal stuff online.
LinkedIn.com and now constant-content.com (where I used to earn income as a writer) have recently locked me out of their websites.
I still do not know why – but LinkedIn replied to say they noticed “suspicious activity” in my account.
Just this evening I got a fake lottery email I apparently sent to myself from my domain based email (tayo at spontaneousdevelopment.com)!
Then it began to make sense!!
Basically they use my emaill address in place of the name for the sender.
Except for Internet savvy recipients, who think to check the email BEHIND the sender name (which they used my email to replace) most people will conclude the scam message came from my email, click to label it spam – and my website gets whacked by Google and co.
The problem is I don’t know how to stop them from sending those messages out to others – who will naturally think it’s me.
I’m saying all this here UPFRONT to help you decide if you’re comfortable having me on. There are orchestrated attempts being made to destroy my work online.
This is not the first time. I remain focussed on my goals.
And it’s even one of the reasons I relocated from Nigeria to Benin Republic.
Each time this problem has cost me tangibly (E.g. linkedIn and constant-content) I’ve written a blog post about it.
It’s the only form of defense I can think of. If after reading ALL this you’re OK with having me around, I’ll be glad to be a useful contributor to your forum – as (name of ebook) is one reason why I’m still alive and kicking despite the concerted efforts of people who want to pull me down.
Sorry about the epistle.

If You Can’t Find Me On LinkedIn.com Here’s Why
and
Why I’ve Told LinkedIn to Delete My Profile (Talk About Trying to Give a Dog a Bad Name to Hang It)
UPDATE: Isn’t it just amazing? I sent the request for linkedIn.com support to delete my tayo@spontaneousdevelopment.com profile at 13.05pm on 19th April 2013, and after failing to reply my previous email sent more than 24 hours earlier, I get a response confirming my request has been carried out at 13.11pm on the SAME day.
Wow! Talk about SELECTIVELY speedy response. Oh, by the way, she also added: “If you change your mind, just let us know”. Sigh…what a pity!!!
=====
It’s unfortunate, but this post has to happen – because the guys at LinkedIn.com seem unprepared to be fair and impartial in their dealings with me – for whatever reason. I’ve never been shy about voicing my opinion. And the last thing ANYONE can ever succeed in doing is put me down or intimidate me. Those who have had dealings with me know this for a fact. I also have a habit of going out of my way to help others I discover to be on the receiving end of any form of abuse, or unfair treatment.
As I type these words, I have not heard from them with regard to my request for details of the “suspicious activities” they claim they noticed in my account.
How difficult can it be to specify EXACTLY what it was they saw that was a violation of their terms of use?
I have asked them, they have not replied. I thought it had to do with the discovery I made this week – see below – but in the response they gave me, it is apparently not. Yet, they will not tell me what it is I did wrong.
Now what’s that about I ask???
Ever since I wrote my post titled “If You Can’t Find Me On LinkedIn.com, Here’s Why…” last month, I have patiently waited to hear from them about removing the restriction placed on my profile. This was after I’d sent the the copies of my passport as requested within 48 hours of receiving their email.
Guess what? A few days ago, I wrote to inform them I noticed I’d received a surprising email update via my olufeltks at yahoo dot com email address from LinkedIn.com.
As you will notice in the screenshot below, I noted that that was an account I’d opened over 10 years ago, and never used. It was therefore surprising that I was getting updates on it – it did not even have ANY data on the profile page!
Asking them to delete that old profile, I noted that the updates for that account and my real account at tayo at spontaneousdevelopment.com could have both been coming into my blackberry (since I setup my smartphone to receive mails from them).
I told them it was possible that was what they saw as “suspicious” activity in my account – since I may have clicked on a link on it accidentally before making this discovery that the notification was for a different address. Having said that, considering I’ve been using my blackberry with LinkedIn.com for over a year now, I expect a problem would have come up BEFORE now if the old account had been sending me messages like this.
The way I see it, this only began recently – possibly last month. I am VERY careful in dealing with such notifications – which is why in my first post on this last month, I was able to detect the scam LinkedIn notifications that I displayed in it.
Note that I also mentioned in my email to them, that in the 10 years since that profile was created I had NOT logged in even once – I did not even know it still existed and even if I tried I would be unable to recall the password.
More importantly, I only began trying to use LinkedIn for business about 3 years ago – via tayo at spontaneousdevelopment dot com
What really got me ticked off was the reply I got from the LinkedIn rep. She wrote back confirming she had deleted the yahoo! email based profile as I requested and then proceeded to REPEAT the same message they had originally sent me about the “suspicious” activity they claimed to have noticed in my real account.
What was worse, she then requested that I send a scanned copy of my passport to them: something I’d done and inserted screenshots of in my post dating back to 19th of March!
To cap it off, I’ve NOT heard a word from her since I sent an immediate reply. In that reply, I forwarded a copy of the mail I’d sent with the passport on 19th March, asking why she was AGAIN requesting me to send it, without even acknowledging the one I’d sent before!
Not one word from her up till this moment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When I sent that first email on Monday 15th April telling them about the 10 year old profile, I got (as I have always gotten) an autoresponse confirming the email reached them). But when I sent my second email in which I pointed out that I got autoresponse confirmation when I sent in copies of my passport on 19th March, and that I was sure it reached them, guess what happened? THE AUTORESPONSE FOR THAT EMAIL NEVER CAME TO ME!
The Yoruba’s would say “Ejo eleyi oni owo ninu O!” Translated contextually, that means: “There’s more to this than meets the eye!“
As you will find from reading the screenshot copies of the 2 emails I sent them this week, I made it clear that if I did not hear from them, by today 19th April 2013, that this matter had been resolved, I would want them to delete my profile PERMANENTLY from their website.
This post is therefore meant to notify visitors to this website not to henceforth bother clicking on the LinkedIn.com share icons provided. I’ll be exploring ways to get rid of it. But in the meantime, please do not bother clicking on it.
One thing I’ve learnt from using the web is that it’s NEVER smart to put yourself in a position where others can dictate what happens to you. That’s why smart people don’t set themselves up to be messed up by the next Google algorithm overhaul.
In my honest opinion, I believe these guys made up their minds I was guilty without even trying to verify if that was so. They took action without regard for the impact it would have on my image as a person promoting myself and my products for others to buy from me.
That’s unfortunate. Like they say in my language (Yoruba), there are many routes that you can follow to get to the market:
I no longer wish to follow the LinkedIn route. Period.
Below: Screenshots from the emails exchanged with the representative this week:
Final Words
Did you notice that in her first – and only – response above, she said she looked forward to my response in order to further assiste me.
Well, like I said above, when I responded this time around, protesting that I had proof that my email bearing image copies of my passport had reached them last month, no autoresponse came, and she has not replied since.
This is exactly what happened last month (see my first post on this), when I sent the passport images the first time. They never replied – even though I go the autoresponse. And they still did not reply when I wrote a follow up 2 weeks later , to which I also go an autoresponse. A screenshot copy of that follow up email is provided my first post on this issue.
Like I said above: “Ejo eleyi oni owo ninu O!“
I’m done here
My Recommended Posts for W/E 23rd March 2013: Humanity And Corruption Are Strange Bed Fellows | 5 Ways to Use Google+ to Improve Your Search Engine Optimization |Why You Need “Bulldog Blood” (#1 Characteristic of a Lifelong Achiever)
Starting tomorrow, the countdown to the opening of a new, exciting – and major – chapter in my entrepreneurial journey begins. I still can’t let the big cat out of the bag yet. That will happen via a scheduled post at midnight (Nigerian time) of Sunday 31st March 2013.
Most people who read that post the next morning will suspect it’s part of an April Fool’s prank. But it won’t be. And many will probably be shocked by the news
Anyway, enough of the digression. Here are previews and links to posts I read during the past week, that I consider to be potentially useful:
1. Humanity And Corruption Are Strange Bed Fellows – A Rejoinder By Emma Nwachukwu
I was born and raised in Nigeria. This is my country. I’m determined to continue BEING the positive change I want to see in her. Not just for myself, but also for the sake of my 5 (five) equally full blooded Nigerian children.
This is why Nwachukwu’s piece about President Jonathan’s act of granting state pardon to an unrepentant looter of public funds resonates strongly with me.
I still don’t know how to explain it to my soon-to-be 14year old son, who I’ve always told that people who steal and get caught, suffer for their crime.
We need more voices to join ours to denounce this shameful act. Emma Nwachukwu’s piece says it all. Read it here.
2. 5 Ways to Use Google+ to Improve Your Search Engine Optimization
If you still wonder why some website and blog owners/writers have their photos appearing in individual search engine results, you need to read this article.
It explains all you need to do to achieve that and a lot more SEO benefits using your Google plus account. Read the full article here.
3. Why Have Bulldog Blood? – By Burt Dubin
In last Monday’s issue of my weekly Public Speaking IDEAS newsletter, I referred to this piece authored by Burt Dubin.
If You Can’t Find Me On LinkedIn.com, Here’s Why…
I wrote the post below last month, and promised to publish an update once any new development occurred. You can read this new post titled “Why I’ve Told LinkedIn to Delete My Profile (Talk About Trying to Give a Dog a Bad Name to Hang It)”
====
My name is Tayo Solagbade. Since 2002 (after I quit my job with Guinness to go into self employment), I’ve worked as a Performance Improvement Specialist & Multipreneur. If You Can’t Find Me On LinkedIn.com, this post explains why. I’m not sure how long this will last – or if it will ever go away, so I’m doing this post as a form of damage control. On Saturday 16th March 2013, I tried to login to my LinkedIn.com account from my Blackberry, but got an unusual response from the login authetication system. It basically said my account had been “temporarily restricted”.
Surprised, I tried going directory to my profile page, and got a page not found message.
I’ve only been using LinkedIn actively in the past 2 years or so, even though I registered and created a basic profile on it about 5 years earlier. So, I still feel there are things I may not know how to do well enough…
As a result, when I got that message from the LinkedIn.com website, I felt I was missing something. “Maybe they’ve changed the way the site works.” I thought.
And I had good reason to think that since the LinkedIn for Blackberry app I’d found useful for nearly a year suddenly one day stopped working. Each time I tried logging into my account using the app, I got a message from the LinkedIn.com website saying an error had occurred and that a message had been sent to LinkedIn.com.
The above happened a few months ago. So I began using the site from my Blackberry browser, but discovered I could not post updates from there.
Consequently, every time I needed to do an update, I had to visit the website from my Laptop to post my updates. I would then go back to working from my Blackberry.
Now, back to the website login and missing profile palavar:
When this new headache occurred I tried to think…
Then I recalled receiving a connection request just a few days earlier – Monday the 11th March 2013 to be specific – from Omowale Ogunrinde (See below).
I’d already accepted that invitation. So I tried going directly to my profile page from within that email. What I got was the same Page Not Found error!
Right now as I type these words – I just checked – and I notice it now leads to a “Service Unavailable” page, when I try to login and also when I try to view my profile page.
I cannot help wondering what people who click from search engines, and other places to view my LinkedIn profile will think…but there’s only so much I can do – like put up this post
By the time I tried doing the same thing from the laptop, I knew there was trouble. The system basically told me I needed to get in touch with the LinkedIn.com support department to sort out the issue.
So I went to the website form from the error page in the browser and sent a message to them. The reply came as shown below – saying my account had been suspended for doing things I have NEVER done before. NEVER!
I replied and told them and told them the only way that could have happened was if my account had been hacked – and that was possible (see phony LinkedIn invitations I’ve constantly received for over a year at the bottom of this post).
I’ve since sent them image copies of my passport as requested (see screenshot above) on 18th March 2013, but have not heard back from them. Up till this moment as I make this post – my profile remains unavailable!
Again I cannot help wondering what what people who click from search engines, and other places to view my LinkedIn profile will think…
It’s hard enough already that I have to deal with the issues arising from living and working online from Nigeria…what with all the 419 and online scam issues associated with this country!
SUMMARY
I’ve lost count of the number of affiliate programs that have rejected my application which I sent in an effort to use monetize this blog. Most simply do not respond. Some bluntly tell me they do not accept people from my country. It’s like a stigma – I honestly feel I know what it’s like to be a leper.
But a few have been willing to take a risk by relating with me. I’m determined to make sure they look good for doing so.
Sometimes I cannot help feeling I’ m being second guessed because of where I live and work from.
Last year a very popular web based marketing company responded to my request to know what conditions would make it possible for me to join their network so as to get clients through them. The simple answer was that I should relocate my business and operations to another country.
Anyway, the point of this post is simply to put on record details of why my LinkedIn.com profile has disappeared. If/when it comes back online, I’ll do an update here.

As a Performance Improvement Specialist, I diligently apply Continuous Improvement principles in my personal and work life, and have consistently achieved great progress as a result.
To this end I’m always keen on researching successful people in various areas of endeavour. I do this not just for myself, but also to improve the variety and depth of insights I can deliver to my personal improvement coaching/consulting clients.
This past week, my efforts yielded the following 3 articles that I thoroughly enjoyed reading:
1. The #1 Thing You Need to Be Successful in Life (That Nobody Talks About) – By Darwin
In this detailed article, Darwin highlights a fundamental ingredient (which he calls “Deferral Of Instant Gratification”) required for success, which too many people fail to identify.
As a result, they often end up sabotaging themselves in their pursuit of success. Interestingly, this ingredient is featured in Daniel Goleman’s bestselling book (titled “Emotional Intelligence”) as a key attribute of Emotionally Intelligent people – a group to which many successful entrepreneurs belong.
Goleman simply called it the habit of Delayed Gratification. Another little book titled “The Millionaire Next Door” by Stanley and Danko also identifies this willingness to put off instant gratification in service of an important future goal as a key strategy employed by majority of the wealthy Americans studied over 2 decades.
The above makes it obvious that what Darwin says in his article is known to work. And yet only few who aspire for success act like they understand that simple but powerful principle!
That’s why I believe this article is aptly titled. Too many people just don’t “get it”…that thrift, frugality and a generally conservative approach to doing things will greatly enhance their chances of success in any areas of endeavour.
Darwin’s article offers many useful examples and analogies…including an entertaining comments thread!

2. King of the Online Jungle: The Early Years of Jeff Bezos – By Evan Carmichael
Jeff Bezos needs no introduction. Everyone knows he created the modern day online book selling miracle known to us all as Amazon.com.
What many may not know however, is who he was/what he did BEFORE starting that company. And more importantly how he achieved his astounding success.
This is quite important when you consider the following famous quote credited to him about discouraging advice he received from those he turned to for guidance:
“Every well-intentioned, high-judgment person we asked told us not to do it,” – Jeff Bezos
This article offers very valuable lessons, and powerful insights. Most important being that if you are reasonably convinced of the workability of your ideas, don’t let anyone – no matter their qualifications, reputations or achievements – discourage you from following your instincts. Success may lie ahead of you, just waiting for you to act on your convictions!
3. How A Guy With A Full Time Job Built A $2,000 A Month AdSense Income Niche Site And Then Sold It For $200,000 – Patrick Meninga Tells His Story (Interview By Yaro Starak)
The title says it all. And from listening to the podcast (available as an MP3 download from Yaro’s website, I can tell you there’s no hype in there.
If you’ve not heard or read Patrick Meninga‘s story before, THIS incisive and indepth interview conducted by Yaro delivers the most detailed insights anyone could ever hope to get, on the amazing success story of the “Skinny Ninja” (as Patrick is known in some Internet circles)
The most noteworthy takeaway for me was Patrick’s emphasis on the fact that his success was far from being overnight. He worked many long hours for months on end, to make little progress in traffic and income.
For 2 years he was still working to get the formula for success right. And there were times when his massive work rate (e.g 20 to 25 articles per day – each not less than 600 words long) yielded seemingly no significant results.
He did all this while working a 9 to 5 job. He kept at it. And eventually his persistence paid off.

You’ll see the download link to the 28MB podcast MP3. Take it from me: you don’t want to leave that page without listening to that interview!

Below are brief previews and links to the full text of the above mentioned blog posts/articles I read online this week. Remember to apply due diligence before putting any ideas to use for yourself
1. A Summary and Review of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War for Thinking Executives – and Those Who Want To Be One – By William C. Bradley
(NB: When he wrote this piece in 2011, William Bradley, was a Business Administration student in Southeastern Louisiana University, USA.)
This is not the first time Sun Tzu’s ideas will be applied to business. Corporate executives have been doing it for decades. Entire books have been written on the subject. The popularity of Sun Tzu’s Art of War attests to the fact that it works.
Where I Disagreed With Him
There was one thing this author said in his review that I don’t agree with:
He opined that Sun Tzu would have done better NOT to have used so many proverbs in his book.
I’m African. In many ways we’re like Asians. Our language and culture have deep meanings to our everyday lives. And we know that many times the English language does not have the words to convey the full contextual meaning of all that we say in our languages.
In my language for instance (i.e. Yoruba) we have a saying that goes as follows:
“Owe l’esin oro. Oro l’esin owe.”
Literal translation: Proverbs are the vehicles through which words are communicated. And words equally act as the medium through which proverbs are communicated.
Contextual translation: One cannot exist without the other. To speak and be properly understood, proverbs must play an integeral part of the communication process. Otherwise there would be a lot of lost meaning!
Therefore when a book not originally written in English is to be translated, those involved must keep this in mind. Especally if such text is in an African or Asian language. This is why it is always advisable to secure the services of a native speaker of the language in which a book is written.
Languages evolve over time. Therefore the person chosen to translate, must have a deep understanding of the language as it was used during the period the book’s author must have lived. Only that way are you sure of getting the most accurate interpretation of the text as the author really intended to communicate it.
The late Afrobeat music legend – Fela Anikulapo Kuti – once told an interviewer (regarding his preference for communicating in his native tongue):
“English is not expression. Expression is in all other languages all over Nigeria.”
And to illustrate, he reportedly said:
“If you don’t believe me, translate ‘Eku ile‘ to English.”
That Yoruba phrase “Eku ile” is used by household members who have been out, to greet others – especially older persons – they meet in the home when they arrive.
There is no word or phrase in English that can accurately convey the same contextual meaning to a native speaker. Not one.
And that’s why only a native speaker (or a fluent, and culturally assimilated non-native) can help a foreigner/non-native speaker fully capture the intended meaning of text written in an African or Asian language.
Having said the above, Bradley’s review remains an interesting and compelling read, that I recommend you make out time for. Click here to begin.
2. Copying Web Content Isn’t Flattery – It’s Plagiarism – By Debra Gould
Also read an interesting piece on one of my pet peeves: Web Content Theft. So much of it is happening online these days, so it’s always great to see people speaking out against it like this author does. Click here to read the full article.
3. 6 Badass Ways to Walk Away from a Fight– By Steve Silverman
On Friday, I wrote a post in the “Parenting” category titled “I Fought ‘Iron Mike Tyson’ in School – And Paid the Price!“. To end it, I felt it would be good to provide a reference or two that reinforced the point I was making. Especially for the benefit of impressionable kids. An excerpt from Steve Silverman’s “6 Badass Ways to Walk Away from a Fight” proved to be just perfect).
4. A St. Valentine’s Day Card on the Occasion of Women’s March Against Connubial Corruption – By Wole Soyinka
Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka wrote a “First Ever” Valentine Message to the wife of Nigeria’s President i.e. Patience Jonathan. In it, he added his voice to those of the women condemning the proposed outrageous use of public funds for functions by a president’s spouse, not covered in the nation’s constitution.
Especially in these austere times, when millions can barely get food to eat! Soyinka called on wives of the leaders of all African nations not to entertain attempts to involve them in any such projects. Very powerful message, delivered in his usual articulate and straight-to-the-point manner. Click here to read Soyinka’s full message.
5. African Moms: Be Patient With Your Unmarried Daughters – By China Okasi (founder of Daily Mocha, and director of Women of Media)
And on a lighter, yet serious note, I read a seeming appeal by a high flying career woman of African descent for “African Moms” to be patient with their unmarried daughters.
Her core message is that African mothers, after having pushed their daughters to excel in their vocations, cannot now ask them to “pretend” to be less “smart”, in order to attract husbands. It’s an irony of life that presents a real dilemma for many successful African women today. Thought provoking piece! Click here to read the full article.
