It\u2019s strange how many people know the above proverb for instance, and yet lack the capacity to see BEYOND the present or to think deeply about issues\/to be better judges of character! <\/em><\/p>\n

They generally prefer to LEAN on what OTHERS think and\/or say, to decide what their own personal thoughts and actions should be at any point in time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a result, they readily write others - even themselves! \u2013 off.<\/p>\n

I recall several people who pointedly stated \u2013 when I still struggled to establish my brand - that I could not achieve my goal of attracting paying clients for my products or services 80% of the time via online channels, while based in Nigeria\/West Africa [NB:<\/strong> I do that regularly today, as a Location Independent Multipreneur]<\/p>\n

They said \"Look Tayo, this is Nigeria\/Africa, and NOT America. All those your ideas are from Americans. You have to understand that over here things don't work the same way<\/em><\/strong>!\"<\/p>\n

What they failed to realize, and which I tried without success to get them to understand was that IDEAS will often not work if used EXACTLY the same way they were used in another socio-cultural environment.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On the contrary \u2013 and history attests to this fact \u2013 most times YOU will have to take an idea you like and ADAPT (i.e. modify) it to suit the unique peculiarities extant in the society you wish to transplant and use it.<\/p>\n

All over the world we see evidence of it.<\/p>\n

Yet in Nigeria\/Africa, especially those of us who travel little or not at all, there is this unwillingness to recognise this important requirement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Japanese are today considered leaders in car making with special emphasis on ergonomics, durability\/longevity, and fuel economy, among other benefits.<\/p>\n

But a look back in time will reveal that when they began, they basically studied and then copied what car makers in Europe and America were doing, making intelligent improvements, to suit the needs of their intended target audience, until they got it right, and over time won the market over.<\/em><\/p>\n

As an expert in your field, your ability to \u201cborrow\u201d ideas from ANYWHERE, and creatively apply them to achieve your goals in the market you serve, will determine how much impact you make, and ultimately how successful you become.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I say this as one who has done \u2013 and continues to do \u2013 just that.<\/p>\n

Everything you see me do offline, and on this website \u2013 www.tayosolagbade.com<\/a> \u2013 is based on over 10 years of hard work studying highly successful experts from across the world, and incorporating ideas from what I saw them doing, to boost my own efforts.<\/p>\n

From how I talk or write about what I do, to how I think about it, and who I choose to offer my solutions to, I have borrowed countless ideas from countless successful experts, and adapted to my own purposes. <\/em><\/p>\n

One expert, whose work has most greatly influenced me is Burt Dubin. What\u2019s most exciting for me is that today, he and I are business partners!<\/p>\n

For those who may miss the significance of the foregoing point, it has to do with what Napoleon Hill called the Power of Association in his classic bestseller \u201cThink and Grow Rich\u201d.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You see, the QUALITY of minds you expose your mind to, will often greatly determine how much personal growth and success you are able to achieve in life.<\/p>\n

If you spend your time rubbing minds with people of LOW QUALITY thinking (and I KNOW I do NOT need to give you examples of this!), you will not make much quality advancement towards any tangible success in your personal or work life.<\/p>\n

But if you devote your quality time to INTERACTING purposefully with people of great MENTAL CAPACITY (and I do NOT mean \u201cbook worm\u201d or academic types), you are likely to eventually begin to record exception successes consistent with what those great minds you associate with are known for.<\/p>\n

Many people who tell me they\u2019ve read Think and Grow Rich often express surprise when I tell them that THAT Henry Ford started out in life as a stark illiterate, working for Thomas Edison, before leaving to build his car-for-the-masses manufacturing empire!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Yet the story of how Ford began is told in a chapter in Think and Grow Rich (Which makes me wonder, as I\u2019ve said in past articles, if they really read the book as they claim)!<\/p>\n

That book explains the impact of the Power of Association with great minds (like Thomas Edison, Luther Burbank and others) on Henry Ford.<\/p>\n

Since he was illiterate, it was not his IQ or academic abilities that led him to success. Instead, it was the QUALITY of great minds he was opportune to associate with that stimulated his creative insights till he conceived his own magnificent obsession and achieved it.<\/p>\n

In the same way, YOU need to understand that what people say or think about where you are or how far you can go with your dream should NOT matter to you.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

What you need to do is seek out people of GREAT MENTAL CAPACITY like those Ford courted in his start-up years, and it will only be a matter of time before you begin to manifest your full potential.<\/p>\n

In my case I can confirm that years of reading works by Burt Dubin, Napoleon Hill, James R. Cook, Zig Ziglar, Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Patrick Meninga, Jim Rohn, Michel Fortin and so many others, helped me in no small way BUILD myself into the relentless force of personality that I am today.<\/p>\n

So, the above is one proven way of connecting with great minds and learning to succeed from them i.e. reading their works. <\/em><\/p>\n

But if other opportunities present themselves, to get even closer, I recommend you SEIZE them with both hands (Two Examples\/True Stories)<\/strong>!<\/h3>\n

For instance, about 4 or 5 years ago, I got the unique opportunity to partner with Burt Dubin<\/a> and relate one-on-one via multiple channels with him.<\/p>\n

That relationship continues to evolve in multiple dimensions today, and my growth has jumped up several notches in a manner that\u2019s obvious to those who have watched my progress. <\/em><\/p>\n

Incidentally, the opposite is also true: <\/em><\/strong>when you stay too long with mediocre minds, THEY also tend to rub off, till you begin to manifest mediocre outcomes like them as well!<\/em><\/p>\n

Like I said at the start of this piece, Africans have so many wise sayings\u2026<\/p>\n

So, it is not surprising that Yoruba people (of which I am one) have a proverb that perfectly illustrates the above final point, providing a fitting end to this write-up:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cTi ewe ba pe ni ara ose, o ma ndi ose ni.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Translation:<\/strong> \u201cWhen a leaf stays for a prolonged period in contact with soap, it will eventually become soap<\/em>\u201d (In Yoruba culture, traditional\/locally made soaps are wrapped in leaves, which - as they age in storage - blend into the body of the soap, becoming one with it).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In my case, the longer I stay in contact with Burt Dubin<\/a>, Patrick Meninga<\/a> and other great minds, the more LIKE THEM I will become!<\/em><\/p>\n

The Moral: <\/strong>Watch the kinds of minds you choose to have prolonged association with, as that will influence the kind of mind you BECOME<\/span><\/strong>, which WILL in turn determine your ability to achieve your God-given potential, especially when others have written you off<\/span><\/strong>!<\/p>\n
