If anything, he would probably have had to \"travel out\" of Nigeria, to succeed at anything close to this level!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>That\u2019s a statement of FACT. And I make it \u2013 without apology - as a full blooded Nigerian. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">It\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/update-checked-into-hotel-why-im-keeping-my-destinations-location-secret-for-now\/#.UVnAzBfE1n4\" target=\"_blank\">why I relocated from Nigeria to Benin Republic in April 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">The environment of erratic power supply, and some other issues made it difficult for me to function optimally in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Since arriving here in Benin, I\u2019ve been much \u2013 MUCH!! - better off. And it shows in both the quality and volume of work I\u2019m getting done daily. And in the results I\u2019m reaping as well!!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/arnaudfranklin\" target=\"_blank\">Nana Arnaud Franklin<\/a> rightly noted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10201756224443444&set=a.1317315689072.2048434.1116136884&type=1&theater&notif_t=like\" target=\"_blank\">facebook discussion<\/a> we had, Rex Stump, the Hendrick Engineering Manager who employed Richie gave him a chance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">In many other cultures, it's possible this may not have happened. Many people get denied \u201cfair and impartial\u201d opportunities to succeed in my part of the world every day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">And those are people who come complete with the right numbers of body parts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>Imagine therefore a person coming without arms \u2013 like Richie? His\/her problems really get compounded!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>If Richie Had Been UNPREPARED, When Given That Chance, He Would Have Failed!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>\u201cLuck is when preparation meets opportunity\u201d \u2013 Unknown <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"style3\">One could argue that Richie got a lucky break, but here\u2019s one more thought to ponder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>Rex Stump said he picked out Richie's resume, from amongst about 20 others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><a title=\"Rex Stump said he picked out Richie's resume, from amongst about 20 others.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/tayosolagbade\/never-let-anyone-tell-you-what-you-cannot-do-slideshow-version-of-espns-july-21-sportscenter-profile-video-about-richie-parker\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-style: initial; border-color: initial; color: #666633; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; border-width: 0px;\" alt=\"Rex Stump said he picked out Richie's resume, from amongst about 20 others.\" src=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/rex-stump.jpg\" width=\"430\" height=\"433\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">That means Richie\u2019s resume featured some attractive qualities that interested the Engineering Manager in the first place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">In other words, Richie had credentials that matched - even exceeded - those of others. <span class=\"style78\">Considering that he has no arms, that must have taken him lots of effort to do. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style31\"><em>Keep in mind that \"car racing\" is a delicate business, with people's lives sometimes at stake. So the \"vehicle designer\" position would not be one to take lightly! <\/em><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Richie obviously did NOT wait for the day to come, when he would meet \u201ca Rex Stump\u201d to give him a chance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style18\">What he did instead, was to take daily intelligent and focussed action to make things happen for himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">ESPN showed video clips from his teenage years, in which he demonstrated how he rode a bike specially built by him and his parents. And another showing how he kept a rope around a fridge's door handle, to open it with his armless shoulder!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style18\">He learnt (with the help of his parents) to believe he could do anything he wanted to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style78\">That mental attitude got him to\/through college, and helped him win the job at Hendrick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style78\"><a title=\"Richie learnt (with the help of his parents) to believe he could do anything he wanted to do.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/tayosolagbade\/never-let-anyone-tell-you-what-you-cannot-do-slideshow-version-of-espns-july-21-sportscenter-profile-video-about-richie-parker\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-style: initial; border-color: initial; color: #666633; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; text-align: left; border-width: 0px;\" alt=\"Richie learnt (with the help of his parents) to believe he could do anything he wanted to do.\" src=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hencrick-richie.jpg\" width=\"435\" height=\"467\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>But here\u2019s another perspective to consider on this matter of being \"given a chance\" to prove yourself:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Back in their time, people like Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr. were not really given a \"chance\u201d, to prove themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">They basically fought to get what they did, in most cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>And only afterwards did useful \u201copportunities\u201d open up for them \u2013 or their people.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>Life's not always fair. Each one of us will have to deal with what we're given.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">That\u2019s why we must constantly strive to IMPROVE, and never be SATISFIED with where we are.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>That\u2019s what Richie Parkers says drives him. And look where it got him. Wow!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>Many of Us Are Living Below Our Full Potentials <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">It\u2019s so simple that we keep doing it daily. Just look \u2013 possibly even at yourself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong><em>I\u2019ve found areas of my life where I\u2019m just as guilty.
