So, stay with me here!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>This Applies to Solo entrepreneurs As Well As CEOs of Large Multinationals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/tayosolagbade.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">I spent seven very useful years in Guinness Nigeria<\/a>. During that time I saw how a deliberate strategy of Variable Costs Reduction, was used to turn the company\u2019s fortunes around within less than 3 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>But it took changing the way people worked to achieve that. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Even when we could afford to buy new plants, the decision makers challenged us to aim for savings in the production process, towards financing our planned purchases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/articles\/appln_of_xl_automation.htm\" target=\"_blank\">They made us implement the workplace organisation and best practice systems we were trained on, to churn out the same or better output at lower costs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong><em>The results were amazing. What we initially thought impossible became daily realities we took for granted.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">At a point, we achieved the year\u2019s target volume output in 6 months!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">In case you don\u2019t see the link, that translated to doubling the company\u2019s profit\u2026ultimately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong><em>The lesson I learnt was: Rather than dip your hands in your pockets, every time you need new inputs in your business, make the business generate the needed funds. You end up far better off that way.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>The Same Philosophy Can Be Applied to Other Areas of Endeavour<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Even in running the home. I know this from doing it myself. It\u2019s just the HOW that differs a bit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>For persons in business, I discuss two examples below\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>1. Writing for Money (and Marketing Exposure)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">You\u2019ve probably had moments when you\u2019ve considered writing a book \u2013 or a special report - based on your unique knowledge and insights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>You do know you have knowledge, and especially insights, that others lack\u2026don\u2019t you? If you did not know it before now, then take it from me \u2013 you DO. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>If truth be told, you probably know it, but are scared to own it. That\u2019s the way most people are wired.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">For instance, you\u2019ve probably read stuff written by your peers that you<strong> privately<\/strong> consider \u201cincomplete\u201d or \u201cinadequate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong><em>But you hesitate to voice your own opinion by writing or speaking on the same subject.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Stop doing that to yourself!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Make your views available for your target audience to read. They need to make better sense of the subject. You can help them do that, and reap useful benefits in return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">And if you do a good job, many will gladly pay to read what you write.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>2. Speaking for Money (and Marketing Exposure)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Closely related to writing is the business of speaking for money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">I\u2019ve written a lot about this over the years. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spontaneousdevelopment.com\/blog\/index.php?m=10&y=12&d=15&entry=entry121015-044435\" target=\"_blank\">With proper packaging, promotion and presentation<\/a> of your \u201cexpert\u201d self (to paraphrase <a href=\"http:\/\/burtdubin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Burt Dubin<\/a>), you can get paid to speak to individuals and groups.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3\"><strong><em>You can also use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spontaneousdevelopment.com\/articles\/psbm.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Public Speaking for Business Marketing<\/a>.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">With individuals, you would \u201cspeak\u201d as a coach, mentor or consultant. With groups or organisations, you would act in the forementioned roles, and also a \u201clecturer, facilitator, seminar leader\u201d etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>Just as with writing, people will see you as a valuable provider of useful knowledge and information.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Enquirers about certain services I offer are asked to pay N10, 000 (about $60 USD) to speak with me for thirty minutes to one hour on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Now, some experts would call that peanuts. <strong>But in my local market - and to the audience that seeks that service - it's proved just right. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">What\u2019s more, I use it mainly to ensure I do not have my time wasted. That\u2019s why if they go on to hire me, they get the N10,000 refunded to them, via a deduction from fees they pay me for the full project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>Anyone who refuses to pay that fee has to go elsewhere. <\/strong>Those who take the leap of faith always get value for their money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>Note that most times these people find me via my written works e.g. articles, PDF e-books and reports. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">In my write-ups, I mention the fact that I offer a speaking service. Likewise, in the promotional material for my talks, I announce the fact that I offer freleance writing (and other) serveces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">At speaking event venues I offer information products on CD\/DVDs, and in print form in \u201cback rooms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>See how this works? <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>You Can Use Writing and\/or Speaking to Directly or Indirectly Earn Income <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Do a search online and you\u2019ll see that people with similar expertise to yours already write in your field. Some author books reports (e.g. PDF, Epub mobile format) for free or a fee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Others get paid to write for print magazines or websites. Many of course write for themselves on their own websites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">They also get invited for paid speaking gigs. Many times meeting planning decision makers use their writing to assess the potential value such experts can deliver as speakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>That\u2019s why to boost your chances of making money from speaking, <a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/category\/writingblogging\/\" target=\"_blank\">you <strong>really <\/strong>want to do lots of writing<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>Avoid Fooling Yourself Into Thinking You Don't Have Time to Write<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>The problem you\u2019ll have will rarely be a lack of time. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">Believe me. Every month, <a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/how-to-use-the-self-development-nuggets-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">I publish a new article on my Self-Development (SD) Nuggest blog daily from Mondays to Saturday (sometimes Sundays)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">During that same period I often write for clients on widely differing themes like education, legal consulting, poultry farming, hearing and speech improvement etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">For myself, I also write and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/sdaproducts\" target=\"_blank\">sell information products on different subjects\/themes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>Yet, not once have I ever been found wanting by any client.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\">The key is proper self-management, planning and discipline \u2013 backed by passion for what you do.<\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">The marketing exposure I get from doing all the above, increases the appeal of my range of products (<a href=\"http:\/\/excelheaven.spontaneousdevelopment.com\" target=\"_blank\">custom spreadsheet software<\/a>) and services (<a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/why-you-need-a-web-marketing-system-wms-part-1-of-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">web marketing<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/iff.spontaneousdevelopment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">farm business support<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/sdnuggets\/writing-service\/\" target=\"_blank\">freelance writing<\/a> etc).<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">That enhanced appeal got me chosen to be <a href=\"http:\/\/tksola.spontaneousdevelopment.com\/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=60&Itemid=72\" target=\"_blank\">guest Speaker at the 2012 edition of the Annual Entrepreneurial Lecture, organised by Yaba College of Technology\u2019s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>The above ideas can enable you make more money faster, with less effort\/expense, doing what you love!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>Final Words: To Get Started, Do What I Did<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">I made a habit of visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/speakingsuccess.com\" target=\"_blank\">this guru's website<\/a>, and reading ALL his articles on speaking, writing and marketing. He's been around for over 3 decades, and is recognised worldwise as an authority on all those topics (<a href=\"http:\/\/spontaneousdevelopment.com\/uploads\/bdubin-mastery01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">read what accomplished experts say about him in this PDF<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">By creatively adapting what I learnt from reading (and listening to) his - and some other people's - stuff, I developed the ideas I've shared above.
