(If you wonder: YES, I insist that my kids call me my first name. The WHY, is a subject for a different write-up).<\/p>\n<p><b>S<\/b> had asked me that question thrice before I responded. When he asked again, I almost accused him of being  drunk, but quickly recalled that was a highly unlikely possibilityJ.  And that was when I turned to ask him what exactly he meant.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>Having gotten my  attention, he went on to explain as follows:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">\u201c<em>Ehm,<\/em> w<em>e saw a man in church last week who said he  was celebrating his 40th birthday. But one lady looked at him in  surprise and said \u2018<strong>You\u2019re 40, and you  look so old already?\u2019<\/strong> That\u2019s why I wanted to ask you if you\u2019re getting  younger, because you told us you\u2019re 42 \u2013 but you look much younger than that  man!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">As he said this, his brothers nodded in agreement. Now, I\u2019ll  be honest here, I simply could not help bursting out in laughter as he said  this. And they joined in too! <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">When I finally managed to regain control of myself again, I  assured them I was getting no younger, and that I had no idea why I looked  younger than my age suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">I should add that my kids were not the first - or only ones - to make the observation about my supposedly youthful looks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">I\u2019ve actually gotten  used to hearing people say \u201c<em>Wow, you don\u2019t look your age\u201d or \u201cYou haven\u2019t changed a bit since X years ago that I last saw you<\/em>\u201d. Most of those who said this had no reason to flatter me in  this manner. And many times they made those statements spontaneously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>At a point I    concluded that some kind of \u201cyouthfulness\u201d gene runs in my family. This is because my parents  have also always looked younger than they really are. What\u2019s more, they carry  themselves better than most of their peers \u2013 even now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">It would appear they have passed those genes to  their offspring. I say this because all my siblings display this same trait of <em>youthfulness <\/em>as well. I exaggerate not  \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>Me...As \"Benjamin Button\"?<\/strong> No way! <\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Certain people appear to be blessed with a kind of in-built  time machine that seemingly keeps turning time backwards exclusively for them. Every time  you see them, they look like they did in the photo you took of them five or ten  years before.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>I am sure you can  think of a few people who fall into this category \u2013 possibly you do too!<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">If you watch movies a bit, the movie titled \"<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Curious_Case_of_Benjamin_Button_(film)\" target=\"_blank\">The Curious Case of Benjamin Button<\/a><\/strong>\u201d  - who aged <em>in reverse - <\/em>would  probably have flashed across your mind at some point while reading the anecdotes I shared above\u2026 <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">If you have not watched that movie, you should. It's an American fantasy film that was directed by David Fincher. Briefly,  Button was born as an old, wrinkly, ugly looking baby who in an even more bizarre development went on to age by getting <strong>younger<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>No matter what anyone tells me about how young I still look inspite of my age, one thing  I\u2019m sure about, is that I\u2019m not ageing in that freakish Benjamin Button manner \ud83d\ude42<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style60\">Some People Grow Grey, While Still Young!<\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\"><strong>Here\u2019s an interesting paradox:<\/strong> Just as I\u2019m being told I look  younger than my age, a few silver hair strands now pop up among the black hairs that  grow on my head and chin! <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">They do not however bother me, because when she was in her  forties (and I in my twenties), my mother already had silver strands of hair  mixed with the black on her head too. But she retained her youthful appearance for many years afterwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">I think I always knew I was likely to inherit that trait  from her. So, it came as no surprise when they began showing up last year,  after I clocked 41. Even now, they\u2019re hard to spot, but they\u2019re there. I see  them \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style46\"><strong>But What Do Ageing & Grey Hairs Have To Do With  Speaking Success, Tayo?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">Blame it on Burt Dubin! <\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">He made the link in some promotional copy I read many months back as follows:<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"><em>\u201c<strong>If these realities excite and inspire you,  prepare for a few white hairs ahead of their time . . .<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 Burt Dubin<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\"> Burt was laying down requirements for achievement of  speaking success under his mentorship e.g. it is not for the faint hearted\u2026and it  certainly will not come to those seeking free rides in fancy cars (hat tip to  Will Smith of the<em> <strong>Fresh Prince of Bel Air<\/strong><\/em> comedy fame).<\/p>\n<p class=\"style18\">My message this week is therefore that to achieve success as  a paid speaker, you MUST be prepared to do the required work.
